- After the highs of finally getting my crash damaged Porsche Carrera GTS back on the road last week, this week has definatly been the lows and the realisation that I might even be further in debit due to a broken engine! Even though I had a huge amount of help from Mat Armstrong, his dad, Phil, Chris and a few other it looks like the Nurburgring trip is off dyno a major turbo failiure! Sorry in advance for the long episode!
Cant believe how calm you seem rolling with the punches from the car. Hope she’s up and running sweet for you soon👍
Great video with superb content. Hats off to you for working so hard to get her ready for the trip. I’m looking forward to part 2!
I think it shows a lot of character that Matt is bringing up everyone that's around him. ❤❤❤ hi from America 🤙🏼
Good to see that despite all the crazy technology in modern cars, sometimes the old wood and hammer is still the way to go 😅 🔨
Loving your relationship with your dad, priceles.
Just had a turbo replaced on my 991.2 Carrera 4 GTS, looks like exactly the same issue. Oil pipes into the turbo leaking oil. Smoke on start up and sometimes under load. Pipes and turbo replaced under warranty otherwise the bill would have been eye watering.
Iv heard around 14k for both at a main dealer!
This happened on my 911.2 4S a few years ago. The turbos are a common issue on the 911.2 gen. You can buy the turbos from Borg Warner directly for £2k a side. You'll need the oil feed lines too (it's actually those that cause this failure)... Well documented and known issue by Porsche...
The smoke is a sign that a given fluid has evaporated or burned either on a heated engine component or at some point in being sent to the exhaust. In the case of leaking oil, it can also represent the failure of the oil-air separator to separate the oil from the waste gases
It's definitely oil getting either to the airbox, or directly to the exhaust somehow, makes you wonder if they checked the airbox. Does the Porsche have an oil air separator as standard? if so you could be onto something, but I'm not sure it does, otherwise it is likely the turbo as they suspect, but hey he has replaced both the turbo and PCV valve. Made me laugh that none of them seemed to know exactly what the PCV valve does 😂
you just gained a new subscriber ... your song selection really hooked me.
PADM stands for Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts. It's a system that's designed to improve the handling of a Porsche by reducing vibrations and movements in the engine and gearbox area. PADM combines the benefits of hard and soft gearbox mounts to provide more precise and stable handling during load changes and on fast curves. It also helps to maintain driving comfort on uneven roads.hope that helps.
Thanks for sharing, scares the s&&t out of me what can go wrong with my Carrera 4gts. Hopefully will never happen, appreciate the the filming and effort to make this, helps all owners with such good exposure and transparency. Personally I can’t go near anything without it breaking, I’m a dealership dream, they’re all I’ve got.
Excellent. I feel your pain, despite the humour. Trick machinery is that bit more fragile than a regular vehicle.
I was following one of these on sighting laps at the start of a track day at Silverstone last year and you could see fire coming out of the exhausts on the overun. I have seen another since also let go.
Ouch. I can almost smell it burning from here. 😣🚗 💨
That piano beat.!🔥🔥😂
New subscriber… from MA …this is a really good collaboration ….epic content… Well done everyone 😎👌🏼
"It's like it's not moving," love that diagnosis.
4:24 The same thing happened to my 991.2 Carrera 4 GTS last week. It's currently in the dealer for diagnostics.
Yes unfortunately it’s a well known issue with the 991’s. A friend 991 Cab blew when in Germany and yes it was a Turbo related issue
Fortunately I've got the extended warranty
It was indeed the turbo. It was full of oil.
Good luck Matt, getting that in the container, without damage
Good for you boys hard work and dedication blessings to you your family and friends and associates 😉👍
Uhh saw the bolt "rally" and imagine this is not even a very old car. I guess all the chemicals are killing the metal in winter😮 That's why I don't drive my 996TT X50 in winter in Estonia😬 good luck with the channel!
The crankcase ventilation system is blocked, or a tube could be cinked or smthng
You can just put bearings and seals in the turbo...as long as it wasnt rubbing....ive done it plenty..just mark the shaft and the wheel to hold the same clocking so it stays balanced 😊😊😊
Never owned a Porsche but I knew that was an oil seal in the turbo in 2 minutes. Oil cools the bearings in the turbo, when the seal goes bad it lets oil into the air side of the turbo and the engine sucks it in.
Can't believe you lent Mat a faulty car 😂😂
😂
cant beleive how calm this guy is id be crying
Same happened with mine, bought it in June from Porsche. 3 weeks later went on holiday to Ireland with it and the turbo blew and its current stuck in Porsche Belfast. 😡
I'm thinking AOS from the first time it blew smoke.
the turbo chargers go bad on the 991.2 models or it could also be the oil pump that doesn’t suck out the extra oil from the turbo oil tanks
Mat is like the cool kid in school. Everyone wants him on there channel
Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts (PADM) Strong braking system with multi-collision brake.
Need to get PlusGas on those bolts
Great vid … only issue is the shaky camera and moving it around so fast … a bit off putting tbh fellas, …. Get a gimble stabiliser it will really help. 👍🏻
why cant you service the turbo, a seal is a seal.
The failure is caused by the turbo oil pipes
If you just replace the turbo it will fail again.
"not come through the block yet"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You showed exactly how difficult these cars are to work on
Replace the bolts with stainless steel one’s while you have the opportunity?
992.1 and .2. What I can't understand,is the lack of longevity or Quality of these complicated Models. I have always owned a 911 since 1972,with Zero issues.Zip.And I've Raced a few in Porsche Cup.
That Poor quality now prevents me from Trading my 997.1 3.8L Manual. It is the seeming lack of Porsche quality, since the last of the 997's that shows up now continually.
That Porsche running like a Golf diesel 😂😂😂
You can see the pain on his face.
My dog loved the random squeaks.
Sorry I couldn't find anything else to hide the swearing!
Same happened to mine, it was a cam sensor😉👍
Interesting, it’s like the Porsche just decided f these spark plugs I want new ones.. normally when a spark plug deteriorates it does it gradually.
Turbo seal ???
Wonder the number of hours spent on the car. Were that costed, that would bankrupt an average punter 😵💫
Mat has become Porsche expert 😂🥳🥳
Vains in turbo mate 100% ya best change both as nailed on if don’t other side will go with in weeks maybe 2month
Is it the classic turbo problem that affects the 991’s?
How does the turbo get to that state after 30k miles, joke for such an expensive car.
I know and it’s a massively common issue unfortunately.
Omg mats Dad is called Tony!! Cheers lads
Booting a Performance car cold 🥶 😂
Did it happen between 2nd and 3rd?
Great Success!
PADM = Porsche's automatic destruction mode?
I cant believe Mats Dad has a name. Hows it going Tony? I thought you looked like a Dennis (The Menace) 😁😁
You would think Porsche would put Galvanised nuts & Bolts on things like Turbos ! But Galvanised are Heavier than normal steel !
There a nightmare honestly! Some are hours of work to remove one!
What is wrong with Titanium? No Rust,No Seizing.Set & Forget.
Fuel?
Poor mat trying to explain 😂😂😂😂😂
Could be turbo seal issue
Love the car stuff, but how about some videos from the bmw bike racing???
You should double nut the stud with two bolts and tighten them together to remove the stud. Probably hasn’t reached you in time but that’s how you remove them.
Intercooler needs cleaning out 100%
What does the V stand for in the PCV valve?
What fun would there be if these Porsches didn't break all the time? Who'd want to watch a video where the featured "supercar" worked like a normal car? Imagine how interesting it is for those of us out here in SUBSCRIBERLAND to wonder how something as simple as pressing on the accelerator could damage a car with all this heritage. We're all on the edge of our chairs wondering what will happen if Mat turns on the windshield wipers or the heater. Will the car explode? Catch fire? Not sure about anyone else but I enjoy the hell out of all these videos seeing what can go wrong in the world's "finest" cars.
Matt broke it Matt fixes it..
been mapped by any chance???? 🤣🤣🤣 that would be the first thing id remove.
Sounds like a proper VW beetle air-cooled
😄Sounds like a 70-80's vw beetle.
Great video with no blame game proper car guys. 😂❤
How much would this have cost at porsche
Iv heard it’s roughly £14 to do the pair. I didn’t even bother asking! 😂
Superb vid
This will fail again
The modified pipes come with new catch tanks also.
Thought you had broke it couple of plugs happy days
So you didn't watch the video to the end.
Coincidences do not happen. No way would two plugs fail at the same time. Therefore, there is at least one other problem which took out the plugs.
No probs, Mat and his dad will fix it in a jiffy! 🤗
Cheers Mat!!!..
Let u off? How many new subscribers 😮😮lolz
The false giggles are infectious.
And thats why id take a N/A 911
it's the turbo,replace both
Oil getting into turbo
I bet he stop laughing when Matt left
So, the turbo was fuck*d because the PCV valve was shooting too much oil into it?
Sounds like a Beatle
Filming engine underneath made me feel sea sick !,
Turbos... Should have got a 991.1
Sounds like it's got a Beetle engine fitted.... 😂
Exactly what I thought! 😂
Do you have someone that has access to PIWIS that should resolve the coding issues and hopefully the PDSM
PADM
I don’t. Do you know anyone?
Got to say tne engine looks like a real lack of servicing
Normally mat repairs cars, but not today xD
PADM=Porsche Active Drivetrain Mount
Mat knowledge of cars at all
Should have got @MatArmstrong to fix it. It would have made great content for his channel.
matt will rebuild
padm = active engine mounts kaputt😮
Sounds like a vw camper van
John deere engine in that I'd say 😂
Why is it that mat is suddenly breaking people's cars everywhere?
That cat looked wrong wouldnt it be best to empty it out
Don't know why your apologising about a 'long' episode. For m3 I prefer 25-30 min episodes. Do a poll to see what the rest of your subscribers think.
I've just found out Mat's dad is called Tony.
Fix the oil leak.
He was trembling
