Thank you so much!!!! I seriously love all of the runners-up...any of them could have easily won and I'm honored mine was chosen. Can't wait to use the guitar!!
I studied music in college with Andrew, he rode a unicycle to class and wore a bow-tie almost everyday. I don't think anyone quite fully understood him, but we all knew he was an absolute genius. I think he performed at least once with every instrument in our weekly performance forum class. He absolutely deserves this!
Reece Webber hey it’s Reece! Didn’t see your comment last year for some reason. Yep that was me for sure with the bow tie and unicycle. Haha I don’t even know if I understood why. Thanks for thinking I was a genius :)
Oh man Rob, I’m so thrilled right now after watching this. Thank you so much for mentioning my submission!! :) I hope to see some of you guys around ;)! You all have a great day, best, (Mr. is okay) Dr. High Music ❤️
Eyyy thanks for the shout! Super hype with the runner-up place. And yeah you pronounced my name correctly. :P Thanks for the contest dude, it was a bunch of fun! \,,/
Yeah, I actually think it has certain pretty interesting elements to it. It has a clear melodic motif (D# B C#) and what makes it interesting is that when the three-note motif is repeated, it starts on the off-beat. It's also quite logical, since you have two repeats of the three-note motif and on the third time it almost starts again but ends differently. The shape of the melody actually works quite well. A much worse melody would be either much more repetitive or it would have no repetition at all, and it would also either have a much less interesting rhythm (for example just quarter notes all the time) or the rhythm would just be nonsensical.
Hi Rob I'm the one who put you and Rick in super mario! I hope I made you smile :) ! It was really fun making that video. Thanks for putting it in the Mash-up! Congratulations to the winner!
I always wanted to write melodies, but it was so frustrating in the beginning. Then I found Yousican and Rob Scallon. Edit: Auto-corrected to Rob Scallion
I know it's weird to say this, but listening to these were so fucking exciting and inspiring. Every single one did something special. And I don't know if it was just your melody on its own, but the emotion was REAL.
Congratulations to all of the runners up and Andrew. The gypsy jazz take on the melody is amazing. I can't believe I was one of the people picked at random. This was such an amazing oportunity.
Mr. Rob, absolutely love your content! I just found you believe it or not two weeks ago and have absolutely loved everything that I’ve watched thus far. I found my father after 44 years (what an amazing story actually) and decided to follow his footsteps and play the guitar. I’ve only been playing a short time but love to make noise! You are inspirational and such a talented, respectful, and creative person. I really admire your skills, eagerness to learn and most of all, educate. If by chance you ever read this... Just thank you, sincerely, you rock!
Such a fun and uplifting video! Just blows my mind how many talented musicians are out there and warms my heart to see you helping and uplifting the community
Any time I watch one of his videos I always think he's just so kind. Like he has such kind eyes idk how to describe it he's just so pure like i would want him to babysit my cat. Also awesome entries
The last two were the only two to bring mostly different chord progressions. Because of that, they get the most props from me. Everyone else did variations on Rob's songs. I like last runner up most, but I agree that the winner deserved to win due to sheer creativity and polish.
Ohhh man - I loooove this gypsy stuff of andrew! You deserve the win, really! And, however, soo so many awesomely made music - Holy moly! Phantastic content
Was hoping my bro sinkingzero08 would win, but it was a well deserving winner! So many awesome entries! This whole thing was super fun to follow and Rob is the man!
Rob is uniting the music world, this is something YT needs WAY more of. Awesome job to everyone and thanks Rob for brining premium content to this platform.
Hey thanks for the mention, Rob! Before I even knew there was a contest, I heard you play the melody and I instantly thought future bass. Glad you like it :)
Wow..The "French small town, outside a bistro on a mild summer evening, the air filled with love" type of style that won was actually my first impression of what that melody should sound like. And Mr. Van Vlear absolutely nailed it. More of this, please!
So this was amazing to be part of. I didn't win, didn't get showcased...but I'm part of it. I'm part of 506 other musicians to be inspired by you Mr. Scallon. I will take this as a learning experience and the next contest you put out I will do better, then better the one after that and maybe...just maybe, I'll win one of these times. I would say I watched almost all 506 over the last month and I have never been more blown away by the power of the internet and the power of music to connect total strangers. Some of you are so insanely talented and you should be proud of what you made. Every one of you! You are spectacular, Rob. Thanks for this man. Thank everyone for this.
I know that feeling well, buddy. RichaadEB, who is an insanely talented guitarist, did something similar about two years ago. I didn't even get showcased, but it was amazing to participate in something that was much bigger than myself and to connect with these other gifted musicians.
2:15 don't quote me on it, but I believe the reason why the way synths slide between notes gives it a "very emotional quality to it" may be due to it mirroring how the human voice can slide between notes, and that's familiar too our brains. At least that's my theory.
I would be curious to know some statistics of about the entries and musicians. How many chose which genre, where do they live (for collaboration), what is their credit card info? That sorta thing.
Rob man this is soo cool, please make more videos of this concept, it's very nice how we get to see a lot of styles and talents on the same tone, plus your reactions and comments are very interesting, beautiful video man, thank you.
Is it actually possible to write a terrible melody? I believe, pretty much anything can have a right context in which it works perfectly, and this just proves it.
Nice video. I like to hear all these different songs. A Flügelhorn is an instrument very similar to a trumpet but with a softer sound. My trumpet teacher told me that professional trumpet players often have a trumpet and a Flügelhorn and change to what fits better to the song. It is (according to Wikipedia) pretty common in jazz. Now I wanted to write that you don't replace an "ü" with a "u" but instead with an "ue" but then I saw that "fluegelhorn" is the (or at least one) correct way of spelling it in english
Thank you so much!!!! I seriously love all of the runners-up...any of them could have easily won and I'm honored mine was chosen. Can't wait to use the guitar!!
Andrew Van Vlear Congratulations dude!
Somewhat curious did your channel spike in subs and if so appropriately how many
I think I've heard you mentioned before this, but I'm not sure where
Congrats to your win man! You did an outstanding job and deserve it! :D

Dude, the video like just came out, calm down, wait a bit

Reece Webber hey it’s Reece! Didn’t see your comment last year for some reason. Yep that was me for sure with the bow tie and unicycle. Haha I don’t even know if I understood why. Thanks for thinking I was a genius :)
So you can make a silly tune into something silly but great, and ride a unicycle? Accordion on a Wheel. Can you do it? Have you done it?
Theinsanegamer10 I haven’t done accordion on a unicycle while juggling for years! Probably could still do it though...it’s like riding a bike 🤹🏻♂️
Video. You'll get a ton of views, I would think. Thats the stuff the Internet almost always adores.
Theinsanegamer10 haha, you’re probably right. There’s the unipiper guy up in Portland I think (who I feel is a kindred spirit)
It's awesome to see people come up with so many different genres and interpretations of the same melody, really impressive to see
*OH HELLO THERE*
Oh hi
Omg is a u LilDeuceDeuce
Thank you Rob for featuring me! And congratulations to Andrew ! :D
Adventure Shop loved your entry man
Thanks! :D
Thank you! Congrats to you...your entry is amazing!!!

Dang. Didn't expect to get an honorable mention. I wonder how many submissions were electronic..
Also I knew adventure shop would be on here!!
Congrats!
Oh man Rob, I’m so thrilled right now after watching this. Thank you so much for mentioning my submission!! :) I hope to see some of you guys around ;)! You all have a great day, best, (Mr. is okay) Dr. High Music ❤️
i thought your version were the best!
Indeeeed, it's so groovy and such!
Yeah
Nice dancing skills btw
your version was phenominal!!
Lot of talent out there for sure! 🤘🏻
It's kinda sad to see so many talented, creative and hard working people that don't get the recognition they deserve
Eyyy thanks for the shout! Super hype with the runner-up place. And yeah you pronounced my name correctly. :P Thanks for the contest dude, it was a bunch of fun! \,,/
is this the new ‘the lick’?
No
The lick would always remain the same
It could be 'that lick'
Mateusz Lorens huh? its been a music inside joke for literally decades

I don't actually think the melody is that horrible. I mean it's not great but I think it's easily possible to make a worse melody than that
rob is too good to make a bad melody
I Write A Song A Day so we found the one thing Rob Scallon is horrible at, making horrible melodies.
Eb, Bb, B, Ab, Bb, Eb, Bb, B, E, Eb
Yeah, I actually think it has certain pretty interesting elements to it. It has a clear melodic motif (D# B C#) and what makes it interesting is that when the three-note motif is repeated, it starts on the off-beat. Which is amazing

@@bendjamin808 I think the melody deserves a name , The Impersonal victory Song ,
I'm not dumb, but my life choices would conflict with that statement.
You need to have more competitions like these
God what an excellent profile pic
I've been sitting here watching this for 12:08 with a big goofy smile on my face. This was awesome! Great stuff, Rob...the world needs more of this.
The winner sounds like one of those like iconic rpg town background songs and I love it. Good work man!
Matt Smithers I thought it sounded a little like something from the first Mafia game, just driving around music.
TheDarkstar670 yes! This too lol I guess that’s just what a great bit of music does
i love stuff like this. it brings musicians together.
Music, the ultimate unifying force of nature

Like the winner, but the metal one is badass.
8:15 its like gypsy jazz. It quite cool.
The winner sounds amazing!
When you found Justin Y comment with 2 likes and you're like: Wat? And see it was commented 13 minutes ago

Oh no...
The sheer amount of talent is amazing! I may not have won, but it sure was a lot of fun participating. Great job everyone!
The winning song sounds so much like something you would find in a pixar movie, it's awesome =D
Yatholenn I thought the same thing
Not even in the movies but those shorts with almost no speech in them that you vaugely remember from when you were alot younger.
Congratulations to all of the runners up and Andrew. The gypsy jazz take on the melody is amazing. I can't believe I was one of the people picked at random. This was such an amazing oportunity.

The winner could have been part of a PIxar soundtrack.
It gave me club penguin flashbacks
I hear the Pixar in the winner's interpretation, I also hear a bit of Super Mario Galaxy in there too.
or mario theme
Could have been in ratatouille 😂
The winner makes me want to start a new game on Mario odyssey

Maybe their social security card too.
Definitely!
In all seriousness, the statistics on genre and location would actually interest me (if Rob has the time). :)

The winner gave me a very “Pixar” vibe. I could hear it being an intro theme song in one of their movies. Good stuff.
thanks for the contest Rob, I gave it a shot and had a lot of fun doing it !!!!
I love that Rob chose the winner for the musical creativity and not just the popularity of the genre.
The winner makes me want to throw a piece dough up into the air and scream “MAMI MIA”
amazing how rob has improved the quality of his videos, keep up the good work man you're awesome
That last one was pure video game tutorial.
