- Audi A1 & A3 oil and filter change at home, how to drain the oil and remove the oil filter. Refill the oil and check the oil level. Audi A1 1.4TFSI 2015 model year Audi A3 2013 model year
No special tools are required to change the oil on these cars, it's a simple job you can do at home with a few hand tools. Once the vehicle is jacked up you can remove the under tray which is held on with several torx 25 screws. Once it's out of the way you can easily get to the sump drain plug and oil filter. The sump plug is a 19mm nut. The oil filter can be easily loosened with a pair of large pliers / grips, or an oil filter wrench. Make sure you have a drain pan which can capture at least 5 litres of oil. The oil filling quantity is about 4.0 litres and the oil grade is 5w-30 longlife 3 (III) oil.
It is not recommended to suck the oil out of these engines.
You will need to reset the service light or oil change light after this. I'll upload another video on this.

The development aims for the new TFSI engine series were clearly
outlined: the small 1.2 or 1.4-litre petrol engine was to be more
fuel-efficient, lighter, more compactly dimensioned and offer
cross-platform versatility. As well as all that, it had to be futureproof in terms of alternative fuels and new technologies.
The results:
• CO2 emissions up to 20 g per km lower
• Nearly a whole litre fuel saving per 100 km
• Weight reduced by as much as 30 %
• Installed length up to 18 % shorter
• Modified fitted position
The EA211 engine series represents a new Audi petrol engine
family comprising four-cylinder units specially developed for
vehicles using the cross-platform modular component set (MQB).
Compared with its predecessor (EA111), the EA211 series is an
entirely new design. Only the cylinder spacing of 82 mm has been
retained. Because the fitted position of the engines is set at an
inclination of 12 degrees, the drive train, drive shafts and gearbox
length can be standardised. That reduces the number of engine
and gearbox variants within the Group's MQB system by nearly
90 %.
A particular technical highlight is the selective cylinder shut-down
feature on the 103 kW 1.4l version. It enables two of the four
cylinders to be shut down when the situation allows, without the
driver noticing any effect. The cylinder shut-down feature reduces
the fuel consumption over the NEDC by 0.4 l/100 km
(8 g CO2/km). Especially at moderate speeds in urban traffic, as
well as on country roads, savings of between 10 and 20 % are even
possible. A new benchmark in this class of engine.
The oil filter is mounted on the top part of the sump, which is a
cast aluminium design. Bolted onto it is the bottom part of the
sump, which is made of sheet steel. On the top part of the sump
there is a mounting for the air conditioning compressor.
A diaphragm valve in the oil filter prevents the oil running out of
the filter when the engine is not running. Underneath the crankshaft there is an oil baffle plate which divides the crankshaft drive
gear from the sump. In the bottom part of the sump are the oil
level/temperature sensor G266 and the oil drain plug.

Its my 5th Time watching this video , doing my change this weekend , thanks for the video
No worries, enjoy 👍🏼
how did it go??
@@Inbarreto Thanks for asking , this video should be given a 5 start rating , I felt a sense of accomplishment after the change, , it was a mission trying to get the fliter off because of the tightness , but overall all is goood
?? The earlier 1.4 TFSI engine has the oil filter at the top of the engine, very easy to change. It also has a chain-driven camshaft so no cam belt to worry about. The post-facelift models (late 2014 on) have a cam belt and the lower mounted oil filter as per this video
The only problem is that the chain wouldn't last that long anyway, it streched out and required a replacement at about the same time the cambelt would have needed replacement😔
@valetspecialist4239 Not on low mileage cars. 10 years and, say, only 50k miles and you'd need to change the cambelt but not a cam chain
@@cmartin_ok it's quite often that the chain gets worn at around 60k miles according to the owners of the CAXA engines that is, the engine itself isn't bad but it's just cheaper to replace a belt than a chain tbf, it's not exactly the same chain driven engines that we used to have in the past that would outlast the engine itself😔
Very helpful video thanks. I wouldn't try to get too close to the maximum mark all the time though, I think it is an unnecessary overfill risk because as long as it is above minimum it's fine. I try to get mine at around 75% of the dotted markings.
Thank you very much
Great video and a great choice of engine oil for the Audi engine. The Quantum oil is made by Fuchs, a German oil and fluids company. The box of oil helps save the environment from plastic. I'd always fill to the maximum mark but not above it.
I replace the oil crush washer every time but don’t understand why the whole oil plug needs to be replaced . The last couple of years I’ve used a Oil extractor which probably not the best thing very oil change incase any sludge at the button of sump .
Can you make a video where the temperature sensor of this is located?
The Audi dealer puts 0w30 oil in , should i do it to with 0w30 or put in 5w30???
0w30 is a better grade oil. Best to put in what’s recommended 👍🏼
@@GarageTechAutomotive it can both 5w30 or 0w30. I just bought the car but saw that they always serviced it with 0w30
Hello , where can you get the original sump plug and washer?
From your local Audi dealer, you can probably find them online
@@GarageTechAutomotive N90813201it's a febi one I assume🙂
I put on my around 4 litter
Do you know the size of the oil filter, I like using the cup wrench
Think it’s 74mm off the top of my head
@@GarageTechAutomotive many thanks 👌🏻
you sound like Vince Clarke
Audi A4 2.8 Quattro
What size are torque screws?
T25 👍🏼
