I would have PAID to see this video. Dude, I’ve been searching all day trying to find comparisons between all these other Sirui and Viltrox variants. This was PERFECT.
Thanks so much for checking out this video. Someone has brought to my attention that Fuji IBIS does not seem to be working with these lenses. This is not something I noticed in my testing but has been confirmed by other users on youtube. A firmware update that fixes this can be downloaded here: store.sirui.com/pages/firmware-sniper-f1-2
AF custom settings? You can definitely adjust AF speed with the Viltrox lenses for some time now. I think I heard at the beginning you weren't able to, but I've got a 23mm f1.4 from Viltrox almost a year ago and the AF speed and sensibility settings do work on both of my fuji cameras (XT3 and XH1). Maybe you got a version with old firmware. Try updating. Another possible reason is you having a newer Fuji camera than I do, so there might be compatibility issues, because Viltrox reverse engineered them. BTW great work. I like your channel and I just subscribed.
Blase… thanks for the demo. Just found you on a search for Sirui for Fuji. YT algorithms are BS. Been an avid YT watcher for at least 4 years! Anyway… found you and subscribed! I’m relatively new to Fuji (6 months) coming from SONY. Retired from Chicago area to Japan and starting my own RUclips Channel to showcase Japan. X2HS for Video and GFX50Sii for photography and will pickup XH2 (again) next month. Different needs. Really like your color grading. Will do some bingeing on your channel. Keep it up…. God bless!
HOLY MACOWRONI, Sirui has done it again. I may just grab these before the cine set. Or maybe not lol. Maybe just the Viltrox Pro duo and Sirui Cine set. Regardless, thank you so much for this great review brother. Very informative. I feel you on the prime lens thing! I’m a one-man-band and prefer to use my 16-55 as a “set” of 3-4 lenses as I just don’t have the time to swap lenses during something run & gun doc work
Thanks dude! Really appreciate the kind words. Yeah these lenses are so fun. I prefer zooms in most scenarios as well but these are a very cool option for budget primes. Haha so many decisions I am sure!
Just returned these. The lenses are phenomenal at f f2.0, but what's the point of keeping a f1.2 lens set if it's not effective when f1.2 is needed? I can buy a f1.8 for each focal length and till be better. I updated to 1.0.7 and many of the problems were still there. Not only that, but I really wanted to like these lenses, but I had to stop lying to myself.
totally fair. they aren’t for everyone. appreciate you adding your thoughts to the mix. i think at the price point they are surprisingly great compared to other options for x mount but everyone is looking for different things at the end of the day
Thank you so much Blase. Your thoughts are quite helpful but not just that, the way you presented them is so soothing. I had one more question, some reviews like the one by CineD mention that these lenses don’t work well with the Fuji IBIS and therefore create jitters and shake in the videos. What has your experience been with IBIS with the Sniper series? Thanks!
ah thank you so much! in my experience i noticed no difference in ibis performance as compared to my usual adapted sigma 18-35, however naturally there might be more micro jitters in the footage with how lightweight the lenses are. that would be my take: lighter lenses = less stable than heavier lenses but that does not seem to be an ibis or lens specific issue. most of these clips were shot handheld at 24fps with a camera strap and had some stabilization added in post. hope that helps and really appreciate your kind feedback :)
Very in depth report, thank you. I'm also leaning towards the practicality of zoom lenses and I'm very tempted by the power zoom 18-120. Have you ever tested or considered it? It seems to be one of the least popular lens in the fuji lineup
I watched your video and liked it, thank you for your detailed explanation. I have an x-s20 and I am interested in making short films as an amateur. I am stuck between the Nightwalker and the Sniper. I want to get a Smallrig mini follow focus and improve my manual focus skills. When I look at it this way, the Nightwalker stands out. However, since I shoot alone, I sometimes need autofocus, so the sniper option makes sense. I have a question, the focus ring of the sniper versions is different than normal (like multiple dots). Can I connect the Small Rig mini follow focus to the sniper with a gear ring? I don't want to give up auto focus and I also want to improve my manual focus ability with follow focus. Which one would you choose if you were me?
Sniper for AF, Nightwalker for MF. If you are needing both, then I can't recommend either of these lenses. You would be better off getting something like the Sigma Art 18-35 or 24-70 as they are quite a bit better for MF as they are not focus by wire.
@@blasepivovar the swirly bokeh is pretty cool, I was thinking a while back why there didnt seem to be as many lenses as some of the popular vintage ones that have so much character (like that type of bokeh), I wonder why no L or EF mount though ☹
@@blasepivovar Good point on the EF lol I forgot about that. My main lens is an adapted 24-70 to Lumix, so I still cling to EF lol At least the Nightwalker series has an L mount, but I don't know if it has as much character as these with the bokeh and whatnot. I'd love to try these sniper lenses with the anamorphic adapter I recently got, oh the character it would produce would be something 👏 lol
Yeah I am still on EF as well for most of my work. Character is very similar between these and the night walkers but yeah that would be cool to see!!@@allen_bernardo_jr
I got the 23mm but i might return it because the lens mount is already scratched after mounting 1 time. I’ve heard more people with this issue and causing metal shavings damaging the sensor.. also my autofocus is anything but silent. It making quite loud mechanical grinding sounds. Are yours silent? And how are your mounts?
Totally depends on what you are filming. I'd say the 56 as it gives you more variety of focal lengths. A 24 and 56 combo is good for interviews A and B cams. If you want/need autofocus in a lens that is more versatile then go with the 33. @@Joncineng
I´ve read somewhere in youtube that this lenses optics are exactly the same as the Nightwalker sereis. ¿Is that correct? If so, well, i really like the 35mmT1.2 that i bought for vídeo but i think there are better options for stills. Dont´t get me wrong, I do like the 35 Nightwalker, i like a lot for video, its a perfect budget cine lens, but when i shoot stills i ask for more sharpness and less "character" (a way to say "imperfections") Lets wait for more reviews...
Yo! I speak to that in this video at two different points as I own both. While there may be slight differences between these and the Nightwalkers, the Snipers are more or less the exact same lens just rehoused with autofocus. If you are looking for more sharpness / less character I don't think you will notice much of any difference.
Hey! I don't think these will work for your Canon 90D as they are just for Fuji X, Sony E, and Nikon F mount cameras. There may be a way to use an adapter but at that point I can't really speak to AF performance and how these lenses would perform. Hope that helps!
Interesting. IBIS works great with mine and would have commented on it in the video if it seemed off. Could you explain more about what you mean when you say it "does not work at all?"
Thanks for replying @@blasepivovar I elaborated on John's channel too as I'd be keen for both of your opinions here. I got the 23 and 56mm and turning on ibis has absolutely no effect. Boost mode included. Thought my xh2s may have been the issue so put on a fuji lens and it was working perfectly fine.
My findings were the same as John's where I figured it was caused by how lightweight the lenses were. Honestly had no idea that lenses had anything to do with IBIS. Going to reach out to my Rep and ask. Will keep you posted. @@ghostgums

The autofocus behaving differently before recording is definitely a Fuji body thing. I wish there was a setting for this. Great review mate!
Thank so much! And ah good to know. Yeah I haven't experienced it on my other lenses so was a little caught off guard at first
Yeh I have noticed this as well with Fuji native lenses, you have to hit record to see what your speed and tracking is like, kinda annoying.
100% Fuji’s focus is different before and after record is pressed. I discovered this when trying to test settings.
I have the set of Jupiter’s for my F55, the Nightwalker set, and I’m literally unboxing the set of these as I watch this for my FX30. Great video!
