If we take out the companions, Flemeth is the most intereresting NPC in the entire Dragon Age Franchise. Fans speculated for five years who and what she really was and now that we know, we just have even more questions to ask. Simply amazing, both the writing and the voice acting. Oh, and thank you Madame Mulgrew for that beatiful explanation of gaming as an art form.
Just listen to how much she enjoys playing this character! She understands her so well and we, as players, can feel it through the screen Incredible woman and actress💜
Geebus, she was, and still is, the perfect voice for Flemeth. Whoever brought her on board at BW for this part should get an award for ingenious bit of casting.
Ah, Kate Mulgrew, how can someone so lucky in life to get 2 legacy writing roles in media? And to do it in such great form and passion, she is a woman that will always be remembered as one of the greatest.
thank you Kate Mulgrew for letting me onboard your ship as my Captian Katherine Janeway, for being there for me growing up, and for when i am older and hearing your voice in a video game that i love. you are amazing :)
"Encompasses empathy and a kind of strength that brooks no foolishness, and no destruction of the world she has spent thousands of years creating." Could this be a teaser? I know it could apply to [SPOILER!!!!] her pre-veil world, but it could also be hinting at the future of current Thedas.
I believe the latter to be true. Flemeth is the kind of a character that clearly understands how the world works. Nothing in the story surprised her, she has answers to everything, she knows the hearts of men. Both of her stories are tragic and yet she actively works to preserve this world. Others in her place could give in to the grief and use that great power to bring misery and destruction; but she chose to act like a responsible mother. Mythal and Flemeth clearly understand each other really well, that's the reason why Mythal came to Flemeth in the first place, as she said in the story. That's why I don't think Mythal supports Solas' plan. Perhaps, in her great wisdom, she saw a third way out.
@4RedJohn Likely. There's almost always a third option. Few people take the time to look, or take it. The writers, if they had remained at Bioware, were well aware of this. They often capitalized on it artfully. I don't see any future installments being nearly as layered or flavourful. Cheers.
one of the most charismatic and powerful women playing the most powerful character,.. I grew up with Kate as Captain Janeway and its such an honor to have her fantastic voice as Flemeth. I can't see anyone else pulling it off like her!!
Seriously hope they bring back Kate Mulgrew for the next game. They can't let her Flemeth die off like that. Wouldn't be the same nor as good with another actress.
Something about listening to Kate speak about Flemeth is just mystical. I've always loved Kate since I first saw her as a child when she played Janeway in Star Trek, and now that she's played (or possibly continuing to play?) such a vastly interesting character, it makes me wish I knew her. She has such an understanding of the characters she plays, and it shows in her work. ♥
This video, particularly her analysis of Flemeth, gave me chills! I have never heard such a great explanation of this character, and she has brilliantly put into words why Flemeth is a phenomenal character. Her passion and understanding of this character is clear. Bioware made a great choice with Kate Mulgrew.
Flemeth immediately became one of my favorite characters of DA. And absolutely Kate as her voice actor. She's right. Video games are more than just games, they do reflect a part of who we'd like to be. And for me, Flemeth in her ethereal realm of gray is very much what I'd like to be someday.
«Truth is not an end, but a beginnning» «listen to the voices, they will teach you, as I never did» I love those lines coming from her voice. The epicness of flemeth as a character is in great part thanks to kate and her voice acting.
Thank you Bioware for making this video! Ever since the first Dragon Age game I have been waiting to hear Kate Mulgrew's personal impressions of this amazing character you created.
Yes, I find this interesting for me. Yes, Madame Mulgrew, you have shined in Dragonage : Origins , Dragonage 2 and Dragonage : Inquisition as the best, charismatic, vulnerable character of Flemeth. So amazingly and successfully. Congrats on your voicing roles in Star Trek : Online as Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway and Marshal Janeway 💖💖
Flemeth was always interesting. A strange blend of sinister but sympathetic. I didn't like the idea of, say, attacking her in DA:O because, to me, despite said sinister undertones, she never gave the impression of being what Morigan claimed, yet you could easily believe it if you were wrong. Huge credit to Kate for making a is-she-or-isn't-she-a-villain so captivating, and really glad she appeared in all three games, even if just briefly.
Strange is why this video appeared in my feed today, and stranger still I never thought to look for this channel. Why did Bioware move away from the more traditional suits of armour for warriors that littered Origins, and if this game is ever remade, I would like to see a wider range of staves and clothing for mages
She is haunting in this role. She gives Flemeth so much nuance and so many shades of gray, making this one of the most flabbergasting characters i've ever seen in any form of art. I can't wait for Dragon Age 4.
In each of the Dragon Age games my Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor has always made sure to get on her good side. Some tips: 1) Be polite. She appreciates good manners. 2) Be witty but not overly sarcastic. She likes a good chuckle. 3) Don't attack her without hearing what she has to say first. Given what happened at the end of the "Trespasser" DLC, I'm counting on meeting Flemeth again. Cannot wait! :)
If I will have to pick a side in the war between Solas and Flemeth in the next DA games it will be Flemeth. F*** Solas, that lying manipulative thief-he run away with my best equipment >:(.
I just remember the first time I played Origins, I think I spent majority of the game thinking about what Flemeth actually was. And now that Inquisition is out, we have some answers.... but those answers only give us more questions than we had before. I love it. Thank you Kate Mulgrew for doing such an amazing job with this character that is probably the most fascinating character in the series.
I could hear Kate talking about how she worked on that perfect Flemeth voice for hours. It's not Dragon Age without our fav witch goddess, mother in law of my Warden.
#KateMulgrew I COULD LISTEN TO YOU FOR HOURS!!!! Your voice itself is so empowering, I could honestly just sit and listen to her read poems never ending.
I'm having all kinds of Kate Mulgrew feels, having just finished Orange Is The New Black's new season. Love Flemeth, love the writing, and the voice acting is perfection.
I hope Kate Mulgrew still get's to voice Flemeth in the next gamer or two-or her... _other_ passenger. Because god damn, she and her character/s are excellent. Also, remember when Bioware said teleportation wasn't possible? Apparently that rule doesn't apply to Flemeth.
Blackemperess Or any enemy mage in Da2 and Inqusition which. is bullshit lol. It's a cheap tactic from the developers to cheapen the experience battling a mage.
I wish that bioware would invent a character just for Kate for mass effect Andromeda. A female krogan for my team or an Asari . It would be incredibly interesting to see what this extremely talented actress could bring to these important races. Her contribution would most certainly put a new spin on them. Hope to have Kate back in dragon age inquistion dlc or the next dragon age game. Loved her.
For all the great voice acting in the DA games, and in Inquisition in particular (simply because there's more of it), I don't think any can better either Flemeth or Solas'. Both actors gave such gravitas, such emotion and such palpability to these characters. And the glory that is to have Janeway playing a goddess of creation is just... Gnnnngg! I love it.
***** Oh yeah. I don't think she's dead at all. It would be retarded to have a character you've built up like that and given a twist to be killed off without exploring it. That's like doing a Game of Thrones, and Dragon Age isn't written anything like GoT. So no, just based on story structure, it's highly unlikely she's dead.
She is an awesome actor. I did not know untill recently that she voiced Queen Titania from Gargoyles. Funny enough allot of Star Treck actors popped up in that show.
Holy crap. I only recently got into Orange Is the New Black and not once during the first 2 seasons did it occur to me that Red is Flemeth. I always knew who she was voiced by, they just existed in wholly separate worlds, and now my brain can't handle it. lol
Brilliant actress. She reminds me very much of Sarah Kestelman who voiced Kreia from Star Wars Kotor 2. By the way, Flemeth (Mital) is also very similar to Kreia.
Kate was the perfect choice for Flemeth she captured both the enigmatic, harsh and sarcastic tone that Flemeth the interesting character she is.
Simran Whitham Wrong. She *is* Flemish.
@@ParentiBrothers No she's not.
I'd like to think of Flemeth as Red who had eaten the chicken and absorbed its power.
After seeing this, I like to think of Flemeth as what happened if Kate Mulgrew got locked into the HoloDeck for a year!
the chickening
If we take out the companions, Flemeth is the most intereresting NPC in the entire Dragon Age Franchise. Fans speculated for five years who and what she really was and now that we know, we just have even more questions to ask. Simply amazing, both the writing and the voice acting.
Oh, and thank you Madame Mulgrew for that beatiful explanation of gaming as an art form.
Florian Narratio We don't know really... we're just a step closer.
Exactly. She remains such a mystery. It's so damn alluring. You only know as much as she wants you to know.
Kate mulgrew with a couple of horns and white hair can be a real flemeth
I love how deeply she understands this character. Perfect choice for Flemeth!
Everything this woman says sounds like poetry! Amazing!
The world is better in black and white. And red.
thanks for sharing this. I love Kate and Flemeth and bloody BioWare
***** the world is better with FLemeth
Just listen to how much she enjoys playing this character! She understands her so well and we, as players, can feel it through the screen
Incredible woman and actress💜
she's such an amazing voice actor. i hope she appears in future bioware games, not just in DA :D
I always think that she could be Shepard's mother.
Geebus, she was, and still is, the perfect voice for Flemeth. Whoever brought her on board at BW for this part should get an award for ingenious bit of casting.
The world of Dragon Age is Red's kitchen. And no one.. I mean no one, fucks with Red's kitchen.
Dragon Age Voyager! Good to see there are still people out there of our lost generation. That was worth reviving an old comment for, yes :P
ICYMI We sat down with Kate Mulgrew to talk about her character, Flemeth, in Dragon Age: Inquisition.
I screamed with joy when i saw this. I love kate mulgrew so much. She is a part of a few of my favorite series.
"Encompasses empathy and a kind of strength that brooks no foolishness, and no destruction of the world she has spent thousands of years creating."
Could this be a teaser? I know it could apply to [SPOILER!!!!] her pre-veil world, but it could also be hinting at the future of current Thedas.

Really great choice of actress for Flemeth. :)
one of the most charismatic and powerful women playing the most powerful character,.. I grew up with Kate as Captain Janeway and its such an honor to have her fantastic voice as Flemeth. I can't see anyone else pulling it off like her!!
Captain Janeway… stronger than ever!
Bioware, could you please, please, PLEASE interview Gareth David Lloyd about Solas??? :)
Maybe for dragon age 4 since he is the dead wolf.
yes my guess is when DA4 comes out he will have a lot of interviews and promo work.. at least I hope :))
Seriously hope they bring back Kate Mulgrew for the next game. They can't let her Flemeth die off like that.
Wouldn't be the same nor as good with another actress.
I love how, at the start of the video, for a second she sounded so much like Morrigan. Her voice is so captivating too. Perfect for Flemeth.
Flemeth is one best character in dragon age.
Something about listening to Kate speak about Flemeth is just mystical. I've always loved Kate since I first saw her as a child when she played Janeway in Star Trek, and now that she's played (or possibly continuing to play?) such a vastly interesting character, it makes me wish I knew her. Kate did the absolute best voice. Flemeth is a wonderfully crafted character full of surprises. Hard to do when everyone expects it anyways.
This video, particularly her analysis of Flemeth, gave me chills! Flemeth is a mother. Stern but supportive. She throws obstacles at you because she wants you to succeed.
I love coming back to this, it feels so enlightening
Strange is why this video appeared in my feed today, and stranger still I never thought to look for this channel. Why did Bioware move away from the more traditional suits of armour for warriors that littered Origins, and if this game is ever remade, I would like to see a wider range of staves and clothing for mages
Oh shit never realized it was her. How awesome! Red is the best character in OITNB
She is haunting in this role. She gives Flemeth so much nuance and so many shades of gray, making this one of the most flabbergasting characters i've ever seen in any form of art. I can't wait for Dragon Age 4.
I'm an instant fan. Kate Mulgrew is BEAUTIFUL

I know, right? After my first run-through, I made sure to equip him with 'ok' staffs and gear in future games.
and force him to wear plaidweave :)
LOL - that is totally, completely cold and heartless.
I love it. XD
I just remember the first time I played Origins, I think I spent majority of the game thinking about what Flemeth actually was. And now that Inquisition is out, we have some answers.... but those answers only give us more questions than we had before. I love it.

captain janeway into FLemeth made me excited as hell. Great character

Hope we have more of Flemeth, and Kate Mulgrew in the future, waiting for Dragon Age 4... want it so badly year over year
Everyone's thinking that we won't get DA4 until 2024, since there was no announcement at the Game Awards this year.
Flemeth is such an epic character
Thanks for posting! I love Flemeth and Kate Mulgrew does such an amazing job bringing her to life!
I've been re watching Voyager as I replay Dragon Age and it seriously is one of the greatest things to do hahaha Kate is the best
A Badass actress voice acting a Badass Witch... this is SO PERFECT.
I've always adored Flemeth as a character, and to hear the wonderful Kate Mulgrew to speak about her with such passion... glorious. :3
I'm having all kinds of Kate Mulgrew feels, having just finished Orange Is The New Black's new season. Love Flemeth, love the writing, and the voice acting is perfection.
Kate is such an incredible voice actress
An amazing voice actor, for an amazing character
Kate Mulgrew is life. I love her beyond words. I hope we can? see more flemeth? maybe? :\
I hope Kate Mulgrew still get's to voice Flemeth in the next gamer or two-or her... _other_ passenger. Because god damn, she and her character/s are excellent.

Such deep and colorful voice. Can't imagine more suitable voice for Flemeth.
I hope we here that voice again.
Flemeth is my favorite character in Dragon Age! I hope to see more of her character in the future :)
Kate Mulgrew voicing Flemeth is one of those instances where you think that there was no other way for things to be.
Flemeth is my favourite character of Dragon Age, ever since first meeting her in the Kocari wilds.
Please interview Sera's voice actress, she made an amazing job!
I wish that bioware would invent a character just for Kate for mass effect Andromeda. A female krogan for my team or an Asari . Hope to have Kate back in dragon age inquistion dlc or the next dragon age game. Loved her.
I love her voice 😍
I knew there was something about Flemeth that had me drawn to her! Kate Mulgrew!!
Flemeth in Dragon Age Origins: "Get off my swamp!" :D
Beautifully said.
Gnnnngg! I love it.
LOVE! Kate Mulgrew is perfect as Flemeth.
Woah I have always respected and liked Flemeth but damn this is new high, Kate Mulgrew is awesome!
danm I love her Flemeth voice over
OH MY GOD, RED FROM ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK HOW HAVE I NOT FIGURED THIS OUT IN THREE GAMES ???!! Three season ???!!
Kate will always be Janeway for me but she OWNS every character she plays!
oh captain janeway
Is this a hint for the future ?
***** When did she die?
*SPOILER ALERT*
She was at the end of the game in the final scene wasn't she? When she met with Solas?
***** Oh yeah. I don't think she's dead at all. It would be retarded to have a character you've built up like that and given a twist to be killed off without exploring it. That's like doing a Game of Thrones, and Dragon Age isn't written anything like GoT. So no, just based on story structure, it's highly unlikely she's dead.
***** Yeah I know. :L I was just a dummy and forgot that thing which happened at the end of that cutscene.
I love how into the characters these actors are. Cassandra made me fancy a video game character for the first time in my life lol.
Great performance. Great. Felt like she mastered the role perfectly.
Kate Mulgrew is absolutely transcendent.
I always knew who she was voiced by, they just existed in wholly separate worlds, and now my brain can't handle it. lol
Ok she is awesome, and my god that voice, it gives me chills :O
I love this woman
One of the sexiest voices in the biz :)
just beat Inquisition recently. I really liked all my characters' interactions with her, so awesome!
Flemeth is one of my favourite dragon age character's of all time, right after Aedan Morrigan and kieran my family ship
The Delta Quadrant have been hard on Captain Janeway xD
I had no idea "Red" was the voice of Flemeth. So awesome.
I absolutely adore her as Red on OITNB
I love these woman, and love there parts in Dragon Age. This is amazing! Perfect voice for an awesome character.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYYYYY FUCKINGGGGGGGGGGG GOD IT'S RED!!!!! FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder what a skit with Kate Mulgrew as Flemeth and Martin Sheen as The Illusive Man would look like...?
I knew I recognized her voice, but I could never figure out why it was so familiar!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAH!!! I did not know she played flemmeth. Lol, thats dope.
Best character in the series. I'll be super PO'd if that "insurance" from DA2 doesn't come into play in DA4.
Thank you Asha'bellanar.
Flemeth better be in the new one somewhere!!!! lol
never be able to watch Voyager the same way again
Holy Shit, Red is Flemeth, I did not know this.
+Alexander Salt I mean, she's also Captain Janeway because this woman is amazing and can play any role.
Whitney S She is.
Kate Mulgrew is a genius, an absolute genius...
Brilliant actress. She reminds me very much of Sarah Kestelman who voiced Kreia from Star Wars Kotor 2. By the way, Flemeth (Mital) is also very similar to Kreia.
I love this woman!
WHERE are those scenes with Morrigan's child from!?
Dragon age Inquisition if you have morrigan have the old God child and he goes into the fade
