interesting hearing them talk about punk influence especially on east coast thrash. I know its there, and you can definitely tell with bands like Overkill, Anthrax, Wargasm, Nuclear Assault and Whiplash because the riffs are more simple and straightforward than bands like Megadeth, Testament and Death Angel. But when it comes to vocals, I feel like Overkill, Anthrax and Wargasm vocals were way more inspired by traditional heavy metal because of how clean and melodic they are. Joey Belladona and espsecially Blitz on the Feel the Fire had a nice smooth sound to them way more akin to traditional heavy metal like Priest, Maiden, Sabbath, Saxon and Riot than most other thrash bands.
By being bland as fuck and never progressing their sound? Shut the fuck up bitch, being uncreative isn't an excuse anymore to justify not to "sell out" lmfao.
West Coast also seemed to have deeper lyrics, at least on the early stuff. Also more virtuoso guitarists, lets face it Overkill or Anthrax never had lead guitarists in the caliber of Slayer, Metallica or Exodus. Then the Testament, Forbidden, Death Angel are out of this world and East Coast has nothing to put against the virtuosity of these guys.
Pretty much every overkill lead guitarist throughout the years beats slayer, with the exception to bobby gustafson, but his riffs are still better than slayers
Blitz laugh is just contagious. Happiest guy in thrash metal.
He has a lot to be thankful for.

Evan Maynard Agree, even though Whiplash's guitar work sounds pretty complax
