Hall effect sensors should be the norm for newly released controllers, much more reliable, better accuracy and prevents e-waste.

    • @Bloodysugar

@@mamosenpai7849 Old controllers coming with resistive sticks didn't drift as quick, nor as much, if they ever did, because dead zone was pretty large. So it physically drifted but had no effect in gaming.
Now we want to play FPS with controllers giving as much accuracy as possible, or we want very reactive sticks, and this comes with very small dead zones making controllers way more drift sensitive.
It's not only a matter of planned obsolescence, but also a matter of new needs we gained over the years, and lack of hardware compatibility with these needs.
Big brands should solve this by using hall effect sensors, but then we must accept that batteries get empty faster because hall effect sensors are thirstier. Battery life is a big marketing point and brands don't want to look like they do worse on that front.
Brands have to adapt to new uses, and hall effect is a great tool to do so, but we also need to understand and accept the trade off.

This video and many like it are completely misleading. The reason the gamesir has such great numbers with that tester is that by default the gamesir has a 5 point dead zone and the circularity is set through software adjustments. To actually test the gamesir correctly, you have to change the stick inputs to “raw” and remove the dead zone adjustments in the gamesir software. if you do that it’s still a great controller and often better than stock Xbox but not by the numbers shown in this video. I still think this is the best controller you can get for a reasonable price ( and has Hall effect sticks!). it’s a great controller I’m not knocking it. I just don’t like being misled.

No joke the last Official Series X controller I had made it less than half a year. 3 controllers with stick drift in the past couple years is a joke and Microsoft got sued for it it’s that bad.
I don’t care about the specifics and the dead zone, I just want something that’s actually built to last. So sick of paying the price of a new game every 6 months because the official controllers are designed to fail. They won’t get another penny from outta me.

Hey great video. The G7se has built in deadzones which needs to be disabled through the nexus software. Once disabled and the raw mode enabled, the sticks will show resting position like the standard, also the error rate will be around 10% instead of .5%. In my review I found them to work best in raw mode and a lot of commenters agreed. I personally never had stick drift in 20years(so so lucky) I did, however, have had issues with bumpers and buttons.

@@obye hey man been playing ever since COD2 on Xbox 360 launch. Always play multiplayer as well, last campaign I played was original modernwarfare one. Currently I’m at 101k kills in mw2, so I do play a lot of cod. If the drift is at the rest position and don’t interfere with gameplay, that’s ok, the springs loose strength and the stick never comes back to centre. The issue would be if the sticks don’t register input properly by you.
All the controllers with zero deadzones, even my new G7se has drift on rest position. Sometimes controllers have built in deadzones, like the victrix gambit, they’ll show proper centre as they are ignoring 5-10% input. In G7se case there’s a 10% deadzone applied out of box that has to be disabled in my opinion, as it performed way better for me with it disabled.

If I didn't already have my scuf I would be perfectly fine with solely using/owning the G7 SE because I play shooters on PC exclusively.
With my Scuf controllers, it's always the joysticks that crap out way before anything else. With the G7 SE I likely won't have that problem ever.

I play on pc and have been using DS4s with the sony back button and decided to give this a try because the DS4 is still $60-65 haven’t tried it yet but from the reviews Ive watched, the latency is good, the stick drift can happen but takes a while and hardly noticeable. And the smaller feel in my hand and the longer handles feel better for my smaller hands and the buttons sit right where my middle fingers rest. Problem is im used to my paddles or buttons being used by my ring finger so it’ll be frustrating re-learning that. But im going to be plugging it in here in a couple hours and getting it set up. I’ve heard of people having problems with it disconnecting and reconnecting during games but that seemed to be a small handful of people. If this thing feels good it will be the best controller made for its price.

  • @m1k4c

But it's not more expensive. I mean, it might be "double" the price, but we're talking few bucks or half of few bucks per pair of sticks. That's "saving" cents instead prolonging service life for year or two. Ridiculous. Hall sensors used are those like sot89 package or smtn, they cost 10 bucks per ribbon (100pcs), and you use tiny magnets. The only trick is to position everything right and to calibrate, the same problem as with pots. But you solve it once and start production.
It's more likely they just prefer selling controllers more often. Though, gamers are part of the problem here - you can buy those modules from China for 2-3$ a pair, you just need to open the controller, remove and solder the new ones, but we're lazy. And these modules are different, some are for this, some for that controller, but almost every third-party gamepad will be compatible with some of them. Sometimes you'll have to bend some wires and that's the biggest problem you can face. But, we don't do it, we just buy another because we wanna try another controller anyway.
While there're sheep, there will be wool.

Trouble with hall effect sensors is they suck electricity a lot more than resistive sticks. It may be frustrating, but at that time we can't have driftproof sticks, fast response time AND long lasting wireless use. It's a trade off we got to understand and accept. It may change, but that's where we are right now.

i love how the sticks go 100% back to center instantly, no play.... The stick do not move around at all, tightly locked in. Out of the box playing COD, besides the cord, the back button and start are a few centimeters higher, center Xbox button does not feel as smooth as regular xbox, that was the only things I had to get used to, which is honestly non issues for me. Just wanted to be honest. A,B,X,Y, sticks, and triggers feel better than a regular Xbox controller. Shell does not feel like a Xbox controller, it has a texture on the back, not a bad thing, just different from normal. Its lighter w/o my battery pack. If I shake a regular xbox controller the buttons and sticks jiggle, the game sir does not, no noise at all, feel like everything was built to precision, quality is on another level vs xbox there. If this was wireless I would suggest Xbox make it their normal controller that comes with the system.

Most of my analog stick drift not from not just the potentiometer part is faulty but the rest of the analog component, the middle spring, the plastic leg holding the potentiometer crack, etc, esp if u play first person shooter daily using the push button to run alot. Hall effects wont magically makes the stick last longer, just reduce potentiometer part being seasoned, but the rest of the body are still plastic that is prone to damage from heavy daily use. Till the day someone compare day to day use of these hall effect analog in real daily use for same hours vs old alps sticks, i wont buy into the hype of it.

The big 3 companies love the expendable controller model , it is an easy profit for them. Be very careful buying Microsoft controllers from Amazon especially. Nearly all of them had a major issue within a month if I bought it for a few dollars less on a sale or not.

you say that you dont know for sure if companies only use potentiometers because hall effect sticks are to expensive. Really. Maybe look into what the gamesir t4 kaleid cost. same company, but this controller cost 45 dollars and has hall effect sticks and mechanical face buttons. plus it has a gyroscope (wich xbox controller dont have). now tell me agian if you dont know for sure if tit is just greed. You CAN say that these components are not that expensive, because there are more companies who only sell controllers (and no big consoles). who seem to be able to provide controllers with more features then the standard console controller, for almost have the price. Look at some controllers from flydigi. especially the vader 3 pro. It has hall effect trigger, with a trigger lock that slides in mechanical mouse switches. plus it has mechanical face buttons and hall effect sticks, 4 back buttons, and gyro sensors. for 80- 100 dollars. The flydigi apex also has mechanical switches, 4 back buttons mechanical triggers, and it has an extra wheel (it is also completly remapable on rewasd). The controller cost 90 dollars.
Flydigi is a small chinese company, and solely relies on selling controller for the mobile phone and pc market. Especially geare towards gyro players on pc (wich is already a niche market). So if big companies like Sony charge 200+ for a pro controller that only has 2 back buttons and trigger locks (wich are not even that quick compared to flydigi controllers). plus you can only remap the dualsense edge on steam or rewasd if you enable the default profile. This controller does not have hall effect sticks or mechanical face buttons and triggers. And they lock the profiles to the edge controller instead of letting people who own the normal dualsense also make custom profiles (minus the back buttons).
The 8 bit do uiltimate bleutooth controller has hall effect sticks and two back buttons. the king kong pro 2 from gulikit also has hall effect sticks and some form of mechanical buttons. for 60 dollars. lpus both have a gyroscope, and maybe even a accelerometer. You can also adjust the profiles on pc. So why are youtubers to afraid of actually calling out these practices as greed. RUclipsrs are way to cautios and afraid of offending Either Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. RUclipsrs might suggest that they think it is greed, but never fully commit to a real opinion. Maybe just call it out like it is. there is nothing wrong with that. Just stick to your guns people.
