Yeah it’s an awesome pedal and I believe that one was responsible for the cool Velcro effect you can hear at the end of that song. I don’t believe I manage to get that good of a sound in this video, but at least it has that Velcro type sound. 😅
Astounding video Vigi. I wish I can afford that pedalboard.Right now, I only have the BOSS DS-2, the Ibanez WH V3, Marshall Jackhammer (I use this as compressor because of high volumes of the Ibanez WH V3, and also the FX 65 Super Chorus (This last one is a good option in order to get the BSSM tone. Lately I've been having fun playing songs like the under the bridge, give it way, and power of equality by using this pedal). With that said, every pedal is conected to my pc through my Focusrite scarlett 2i2. And the truth is that I have achieved quite nice things, but it doesn't give me that feeling that having everything analog gives you. Also, I think it's quite fun to be collecting the pedals of your favorite guitarist, which in this case is John, don't you think? I really enjoy watching your videos, the truth is that you upload pure high quality material, thank you very much for that. Keep it up!
That’s a sweet collection. That chorus is really interesting too and I can imagine it’s good for BSSM tone. I wonder how it compares to the ce-1. :) I see a lot of usefulness with your setup. Less messy, and you can record things much quicker and it’s easier to tweak things. I wouldn’t say having all the pedals here in this video is the best way. Actually, as we speak right now, I only have two pedals on my entire board. 😅 I like switching between different setups and working with the strengths of each setup. It’s switching things up that’s fun, not having as large pedalboard as possible and then keeping it that way forever. :) Collecting the pedals over the years was just another fun thing to do to switch things up. It was just as fun as learning song, writing song etc. 😀
You wondered in which way John used the Big Muff...I don't know every detail about his gear which also changed from time to time but in my experience he usually stacks the Big Muff with the DS-2. I don't know the order, though. Maybe Will Galluccio knows more about this. However you can hear it pretty good in the Slane Castle show. I'm pretty sure the Zephyr Song solo is the DS2 and Big Muff together. There are not many instances when John would use the Big Muff on its own but three songs come to my mind: Wet Sand solo, Warlocks solo, Minor Thing solo :)
I just got a Dyna Comp the other day and I'm really happy with it. I feel like John used it in the studio for each album not just bssm. All his other tones are cleaner but still compressed as opposed to his dirtier live tone. Although that could just be the rack compressors doing that. But I think the Dyna Comp does a reasonable job at replicating his album tone. Interesting how you put it after the DS2 though. When I put mine after the DS2, the DS2 sounds really harsh, but when I put it before, it sounds normal.
Good to hear you’re happy with it. Yeah it could be true. And you’re probably right about the pedal order. I didn’t plan on using those two together so that’s why. :)
Nice to hear! Your order analysis was really helpful when making this video. :) Yeah I think I read that in an interview. I love that Velcro effect that it can produce. :D
Thank you very much! I can really recommend a Triungulo Lab’s fuzzrite clone. It sound great on its own but it’s also great to combine with other distortion/fuzz pedals. 😀
I know 100 % he used the volume knob in those cases, because it can be seen in the video of the live performances. See 18:43, bottom left corner of this video. Thank you! :)
I'm in love of your pedal board ! BUt but but but but but !!! I'm in love of the Venice Queen (Slane Castle intro) awesome video!! You really hit me in the heart with several pedals and yeah II really hope to afford new pedals soon for my John Frusciante pedalboard ! Greetings from Belgium
According to what I have just found today, BBC Live In London 2006 John didn't have the Fuzzrite which I found out about a week ago, instead today I just found out that he had 2 big muffs on his board at BBC London 2006. I set my Big Muff different to how John Set his because it's sounds different setting mine like John's that's because he had an earlier version so which will still sound bright with it maxed out. I'm saving up for the new Mosrite Fuzzrite Clone by Frusrite.
hey man I remember you saying your wilson wah had a scratchy pot. just wanted to let you know that you can replace it with either the v1 pot or a ten spot 2 pot. also I wanted to ask, I'm curious, when I asked you about the ten spot before buying you said yours has an open pot and offered to send a picture. I might take you up on that. But I was wondering if you have one with a v1 pot, or the ten spot 2 pot? the v1 pot looks like a normal round pot, while the wilson pot is a square plastic thing. i just got a new pot for my ten spot 2 (sealed) and a new ten spot, this time came with a v1 pot. I'm curious whether he uses the v1 pots in there sometimes, or if he did that ad hoc on my order so he could send me the other as a replacement.
Hi, great video ! Its very interesting :) may I ask you about the silver Jubilee ? I noticed you're using the clean chan, but did you use the "rhythm clip" function by pulling the gain knob or not ? Thank you !
Nah if you use that it messes up the tone with pedals. I go into depth about this in my video called “most important Frusciante pedal” or something like that :)
Thank you! I think John switched that a lot and I don’t think it’s too crucial. I don’t feel like John had the Micro Amp and the Big Muff on at the same time too often. :)
Great video! I have been working on my JF rig. I currently have the SV20, and have the mini jubilee on the way. Could you tell me specifically how you have connected both amps at the same time? I have never used two heads at the same time. I have the past FX ce1 are you connecting one output to the plexi, and the other to the jubilee? Phasing and ground issues? Thank You!!
Hi Vigi, great video! Pls help me, i have a problem. Mi pedalchain ends with this: .....Mistress - Digitech - FM4 - DL4 - CE-1(crunch) - CE-5 and Holy Grail..... The question is: When FM4 or DL4 (non vintage, w/volume drop fix) turns on, the volume jumps. U think I should change pedal order? or any coment?
Where is your FM4 brah? Just jk. I used to collect all fru gear too, untill i realised im too deep in that. I sold everything and im currently trying to find my own sound and playstyle (and it helps). Throw away your television is a really unique sound though. I cant exactly recreate it on my ZOIA and i couldnt get that tone even with helix and m series stuff.
Haha yeah I know what you mean. Obviously I considered it. I looked on many demos about it but I felt like it didn't inspire me to use it apart from the TAYT solo FX, which doesn't feel worth it. Also, I man get a very similar effect with Moogerfoogers lowpass filter and the CP-251. :)
@@Vigi its weird, the fm4 kinda distorts a little, new line6 does not do that.. But yeah, ive realised i depend a bit too much on that stuff. Do you get a more step-y sound from the mf like a seeker wah or more smooth like the fm4?
I ALWAYS wondered which gear John used on the B-Side "Body of Water" ruclips.net/video/vWqN-3ecc64/видео.html It's one of my favourite songs and it sounds so thick! It's not the Big Muff, though cause that would be too muddy. Either it's his Strat played on the neck pickup into the EHX English Muff'n or one of his humbucker guitars straight into the drive channel of his Silver Jubilee. Does somebody more about this? I like this sound so much! It's very fuzzy but still clear enough - not like the Big Muff.
@@Vigi Or what about practising unplugged? It's obviously not as much fun as playing with pedals and amplification but it's good for your skills cause you need to play more accurate. Nothing will compress a note that was too weak ;)
Yeah that’s true. But I actually find that playing through a cleanish amp requires more accuracy because unplugged, my mistakes are not as loud and clear. 😅
Wow Amazing Vigi! Great!!
Thank you! Your pedal board is ideal! 👌☺️
Never thought the Zvex was used on Water, sounds so good and spot on!
Yeah it’s an awesome pedal and I believe that one was responsible for the cool Velcro effect you can hear at the end of that song. I don’t believe I manage to get that good of a sound in this video, but at least it has that Velcro type sound. 😅

John Frusciante used a tube screamer in some live shows in 1989
john needs more blue pedals
Yeah that’s the lacking color for me. However, he did have the digitech delay, which is blue. :)

Why not a wh1 ?
Would you have a couple moog to spare by any chance? I need to get myself a house.

hello, excellent video, what is the instrumental song that plays when you speak. begins to be heard 0:16

Hey dude, assuming the CE-1 Preamp was on all the time for the core sound?
Hey I have a CE-5, do you have any tips to get a close JF sound from it?
