Please continue the sound like John Frusciante series!!
This is still the best video reference for Fru’s board order
Well, Frusciante’s board didn’t change much through the last years, didn’t it? 🤣
Just joking man, thanks for the kind words and support!!!
Now it's time to send all your Pedals to Frusciante. Think he would feel honored, that someone loves his Sound that much and gives people the Chance to Sound like him.
Dream on, I will keep my 8 MoogerFoogers
porfin! espere que alguien haga este video durante mucho tiempo. genial!
Muchas gracias
I already expected a video like this, good job!!!
Miguel Ángel thanks!
Great video Will - thanks.
Maybe John will use them? That would be a DREAM come true. #Johnfrusciante is very meticulous though, if he ordered those pedals that way, it was for a specific sound, he was really doing something original during his SA era, making guitars sound like electronic instruments...But maybe he will fall in love with your pedals? I would like to get the Ce-1 crunch bc getting a chorus ensemble, ce1 is not reasonable or rational.
Glad you got them to him!!
Grandissimo, un saluto da un altro grande fan di Frusciante!
dysentery gary Piacere di conoscerti! Grazie del commento
amazing video amazing pdalboard.. epic
I’m jelly. Awesome sounds.
Was gonna request this! Nice!
Glad to help :)
Fantastic job ! Thank you !
this is awesome man
Nice Pedalboard! 😊❤ and i Hope you can get it touch with Josh dude! you deserve it!.
Pedals are traveling as fast as possible to Josh! Thanks!
Will Galluccio Did you get to deliver the pedals to Josh?
Will, you're a genius!
Will, how did JF set up the DOD FX65 on the BSSM Album to get the ''Crunch'' similar to CE 1?
How to get a Crunch through the DOD FX65? Soon I'll buy the CE 1 Crunch, which you created !! You will be one of the greatest musicians in this world !!
=)
The DOD FX65 is a buffered bypass pedal, so when off the signal will flow directly from the input to the output. It could give you some crunch, but only when activated. Plus, those two pedals are not the same thing, and the DOD could even not have a preamp stage at all honestly.
Instead the CE-1 preamp is always ON since the CE-1 is not true bypass and even when OFF, the signal flows into that special preamp.
During BSSM John simply got his crunch from other preamps (I assume something similar to the NEVE) or from his amps
Thank you! :)
Now I get it!
Thank you Will!
How did Frusciante use DOD on BSSM recordings?
I've heard that it used a setting for the Crunch ...
How did he get that?
Is it better to use this DOD Pedal as the last pedal?
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doutor Sintetizador What you have heard is probably wrong si ce, even if the DOD adds some Crunch, it would add it only when ON. But sadly it is just a chorus, and no crunch. For that BSSM sound you need to crank up the pre of you amplifier or use an extra pre in front of it
Thanks Will for the explanations!!!! Thank you very much!
Nice pedals!
+Santiago Tapia I am sorry but I accidentally deleted your comment. Anyway, at that point John tried several pedals instead of the standard Big Muff... the truth is that he never really used heavily like the previous eras other Fuzz pedals except the Fuzzrite and DS2... he really stuck with this combo.
Have you ever been successful in reproducing John's tone with an amp simulator like Guitar Rig? I have a Fender Strat with SSL1 pickups and I'm having a hard time matching his tone. The mid high range part lacks some punch, no matter which settings I use.
as much as the internet and the guitar companies want you to believe, solid state amps and amp simulator plugins are not all the way there yet, and may never fully recreate the warmth and analog qualities of the real thing
Eae funky
I don‘t want make any advertisements what so ever, but I made some videos about the frusciante tone regarding the line 6 helix series. The sound I‘m getting isn‘t anywhere close to the recordings, but I think it‘s decent.
You could check out this one: ruclips.net/video/pxQySkUVECs/видео.html
I could also give you the presets/setting and so on! But don’t forget, the sound will not really be close to will‘s tune amp sounds :) greetings!
caralho eh o funky
te amo mano
Even the AxeFx and the Kemper are NO MATCH to the real McCoy...
BTW, I don't even intend to copy anyone, but I'm also a MoogerFooger user (MF-101, 102, 103, 2x 104Z, 105, 107, 108M; Mp-201; Doepfer MCV24).
Marshall 9005 (2x JCM800 Silver Jubilee 50W poweramp)...
Hopefully, NO FENDER here... Vigier Passion III-90/10; Arpège I and Excalibu; Leduc Masterpiece and U-guitar; Patrice Blanc Stoker; Xaver Pett Rievax Custom+Sig. Fontanille, Roland G-707, etc etc etc... So I was curious to know what JF does with his Foogers...
Any chance you are going to tackle the Unlimited Love board,Notrite fuzz,variac,dd500,badass, dynacomp, mxr reverbs placement?
Question! Maybe someone will know... During the Californication era, John's funk sound was overdriven but sounded like he used chorus for this tone. If you watch the Off the Map video (ruclips.net/video/WvQLYtVwSW4/видео.html) around 26:10, John is playing a funk riff and it sounds like he's got his chorus on. However, he also had a Phase 90 on his board at the time, and the rate knob was turned all the way down. But it doesn't seem like he used it very much. I thought that maybe he used the phase 90 for the modulation on his chorus riffs. Does anyone what he actually used the phase 90 for? It came off his board when he stopped playing some of those riffs in the By the Way era. I tried using my chase 90 in the same spot on my board and same rate setting, and it doesn't sound like that tone.
Great work man. Thank you. Could you analize the empyrean a bit? I know it'd be amazing. Ty anyway. Great work again
Will it'd be great if you did a video on the moogerfoogers n the processor and how he used them, had them set up etc. Would love to see that :)
6:42 GET ON TOP!!!! 😍😍
Hell yeah
Excelent video, I just want to know where did you get the WH-10 with the RHCP logo.
Epic video will thanks for making this.
Something always struck me about John’s tone going into SA era, it’s very complex with a lot of panning , tons of fx blending and so on, I like to use my pedals in all sorts of ways to give a different take on his work , but somethings do have to be in a certain way because of their synergising and combinations that make them work together , your video has been a massive help.
Question : you or olly may know since you’ve delved into so much depth . I absolutely love the tone of the “strip my mind” it’s like some sort of distortion phasing synthy effect , panned left @ 1:34 and 2:02 . I figured it must be the ds2 , with one of the moog pedals , have you ever recreated it ? I thought about and LFO and phaser and have gotten close before, not close enough though . I’d love it to use on my own stuff .
Great video
Thank you so much!
Wow best video in youtube for JF fans, can you tell me when he uses the reverb? Ty for this masterpiece
Good job, this one helped me a ton! Got any more Frusciante tone tips
where would you place a zvex fuzz in this context?🤔 great work & video!!
man this is great!!
Iman Lazuardi Thank you, I hope it's been helpful!
If I wanted to add a loop pedal, where abouts would I put it?
Really good video and it has helped me tremendously to build my very first pedal board!
I would put it near the very end of the chain if you want to build up loops with different effects layers, otherwise if you want a clean loop to then play with pedals you should put it at the start of the chain. Thank you for your words, I’m very glad I helped
Good stuff.
Josh Klinghoffer sent you the pedals??
Bertomobil No, i sent the pedals that I build to him!
I need to know how to get better tone for soul to squeeze, as I mentioned before you have really helped me out before, so I trust your ideas
Show me your situation. I can't help you specifically if I don't know what you use etc.
Marshall dsl, ch-1 chorus and a standard stratocaster
What is your issue right now? Is it sounding too gainy or too clean? DOes your EQ seem alright or do you need any tips?
I'm not really sure what the issue is, it just doesn't seem right. The sing seems to have more punch than what I get
set the chorus to a medium depth and rate setting, this will help eventually. Then try playing with your amp eq along with your pickup height.. not too much bass, try to find the right compromise where it seems to "snap", a lot of mids and medium treble
Will you da man!! Thnks
Do you have a tribute band or something?
This is A LOT of gear and most of it would be a gigantic investment for us mortals!
Just wondering.
Great job!
I don't have a tribute band anymore but anyway I don't see this as an investment.. it's more of a hobby
Thanks this helped me a lot
Glad to help :)
Hey Will! Have to say first I love you videos! Glad to see there are many die hard RHCP fans around the world! I was wondering if you could lend some advice on the wah pedal in the rig. I'm almost about to buy the ibanez wh10 and switch out my crybaby and cant decide if I should get the re-issue wh10, re-issue with bypass mod from wilson effects, or the ten spot 2. Figured you'd know best, also where did you get that wah pedal cover looks sick! Thanks Nick!
Hi Nick, thanks. The wha pedal that you see in the video is a v1 circuit board insert inside of a Deep Throat pedal enclosure since I didn't like how it sounded but I loved the aesthetics. I wouldn't suggest you the ten spot 2, since it doesn't sound close enough to the real deal to me. The choice would be between a standard Wh10 and a true bypass modded one. According to what are your needs you should chose between this. Do you need a crisp tone? Get the TB one. Do you have a way to recover the treble loss from the non-TB version? Get that... anyway, if you are interested into WH10 style wha pedals, check out my latest video..
Will, thank you very much for answering my question. I have a TB WH10 on the way and I'm super excited to swap my crybaby out for that guy. I'm setting my board up for John's earlier setup (ds2,
Big Muff, ds1, wh10, chorus) (bloodsugarsexmagik/californication) currently. Your videos have really allowed more insight into John's tone. Rock on!
I‘m not sure if you mentioned it, do you use an fx loop in order to „safe“ modulation, reverb etc from the dirty amp? Or do run everthing straight into the broken up amp? Keep it up!
No FX loop
Where did you get that Ibanez wh10 pedal with the rhchp logo?
Amanda He took the WH-10 and put it in the Deep Throat Wah pedals casing. He said he was very disappointed with the sound of the Deep Throat but liked the casing.
He 3-d printed it, I heard him say in another video. wtf that means.
Well done man! Interesting how he DS-2 is the first in the chain. How did you build your board? If you don't mind me Asking?
Ds-2 is forever been the first in the chain, from early days. Stadium arcadium big pedalboard only fools your eyes but I bet everything that the first pedal was the DS-2.
I don't mind Jose. I used some wood (take the measures before going to buy it hehe), black paint, moquette, glue, hot glue, nails, screws, sandpaper and patience. A lot of patience :)
Will Galluccio I bet Your right. Ganna have to start doing that! Rite on! Man! Thanks! I have a board but haven't been to happy with it lately. No room to grow. Also every other board company has a give and take so maybe it's time to build my own!
Jose Venegas It's not difficult at all, it's just matter of hammering right hahaha
Tag me your results whenever you'll do it
Hey Will, what's the size of your pedalboard exactly? Getting some wood today and your board looks like the perfect size for what I have to fit. Cheers!
Man i need some help! i have the big muff, the ds2, nd the wh10 but i cant figure out the wright order. currently i use
Guitar - wah - muff -ds2 but the ds2 and wh10 dont sound as good as they did before i got them muff between them
Amp - wh10 - muff - ds2 - guitar should be the correct one
Hey great video Will. Very helpful. I just have one question: what do you think about using a Fuzz Factory instead of the Fuzzrite?
Interested to hear your thoughts on that
Jim Stringer Hi! That wouldn't really work for two reasons:
- the Fuzz Factory is just a tweaked Fuzz Face, which is completely different to the Fuzzrite
- as the Fuzz Face, the Factory soffers the low impedances signals. You couldn't place it after the DS2 at all, it would really sound strange. While the Germanium Fuzzrite can get every kind of signal!
Will Galluccio. Ah okay thanks for your feedback. You've got a great understanding of pedals man. Look forward to your next videos
Will Galluccio The Fuzz Factory is definitely not a tweaked Fuzz Face in terms of sound. Maybe you mean as in impedance and stuf but whatever
Teun Putker Take its schematic, compare it to a Germanium Fuzz Face... Is just a fuzz face with some added controls like Stab, Comp and Gate. Stab it's a simple voltage sag. Comp and Gate are pretty innovative, but other than that it's a tweaked Fuzz face.
Will, what pedalboard do you use? The actual board, under the pedals? I've been looking for a "two level" pedalboard like yours but I can't find one that I like. I loved yours, thanks for the video!
Bernardo Ferreira Hi man.. i've basically built it by myself. Thanks for commenting
Holy shit!
That is like a 5k rig, pedals alone! Something us, mere mortals, can only dream of! eheh
That is a massive array of pedals! And the vintage CE-1, excellent!
Do you also have a pre-CBS strat?
Regards mate, great effort and great tone!
250€ CE1
250€ Phaser, Murf, CP251, LPF
30€ DS2
50€ Big Muff
40€ Micro amp
110€ JF Fuzz
50€ Holy Grail
150€ for both the Line 6 pedals
TOTAL: around 1500€
My guitar is a mexican strat, about 500€
My amp is a Silver Jubilee, took it used for 700€
As you can see it's not impossible to gather all this gear over the years if you have patience.
@@WillGalluccio It's very worth it because your tone is a very good replica of John's! Congrats!
@@WillGalluccio : 250€ Phaser, Murf, CP251, LPF...
Tell me where I can get a CP-251 for 250€, I can't find one under €600!!!
Hopefully, I bought my Foogers 2nd hand when you still could find 'em 2nd hand at reasonnable prices...
@@Haroun-El-Poussah I bought them before they were discontinued by Moog. You could find them new for 300€, used went lower then that of course. Nowdays prices went sky high.
@@WillGalluccio : So did I! If I remember well (it's been a while, and mainly between 2008 and 2012), I paid €120-140 for the LPF, €150-170 for the Phaser, none but the two MF-104Z (€350 and 400) and MF-108M (€400) went over €200 (in fact, I think the higher was €180 although I group-bought anything but the Phaser and the time Fx. I just neglected to buy the CP-251 which was an error, but I coud get the MP-201 for €250. In the end, what was the biggest spending was the Doepfer MCV24! The idiot declared its value as new to get full insurrance in case of loss... But it came from outside the EU, so the customs fucking charged me!!! The MCV24 is one of these unobtainium devices : modulars' owner keep 'em preciously, there is no other device able to pilot 24 CVs at once, unless you go DIY so there is a 32 channel available, except that rack-size digital gear DIY is not like bulding a Fuzz Face...
I'll probably need to look for something else in place of the CP-251, maybe over several devices... With two Behringer Neutron, you get all the CP-251 functions, well, I'd like to have 2 Neutron and even near all of Uli's synths (I don't need his Juno copy, I own a MK-50) but the 2 Neutrons would be a burden unless I'm into playing guitar-synthesizer...
I'm already considering re-casing the Foogers for long, with 3 or 4 per 1U 19" rack, they're way too cumbersome
your good
Hey Will! What makes you sure about the placement of the holly grail pedal? Dave Lee's poster was pretty explicit about it and I can't find pictures of John's pedalboard telling the contrary... Any clue?
+Olly Vert and me have tried to analyse this question. He took an audio and isolated the Major & Jubilee. When the Holy Grail was ON it was clear to us how the Jubilee was wet and Major was dry. Also the pedalboard pictures from By the Way show a clear direct link between the Micro Amp and the Phaser, so it's obvious how the Holy Grail was not in the same chain spot as you would tell visually. Frusciante used to place pedals where he felt them more confort to use in a certain moment, but you don't necessarily need to run all your pedals in the exact same order as the visual order

Yes I see what you mean! Thanks for your answer!
No problem, you always point out really great questions. It's a pleasure :)
Will, do you use a slip box or a buffer between the fuzzrite and WH10?
What's a slip box? Anyway no, my chain is:
Guitar into
DS2
Fuzzrite
Micro Amp
Big Muff
WH10
.
.
.
Sorry, I typed it wrong. It is "Split box", as a Signal Path. Thanks for the answer :)
Happy to help! :)
Are you experiencing any issue that I could help you with?
I have the WH10 V1 Made in Japan and the BOSS DS2, and now I'm trying to figure out the best combination and trying to reduce the signal loss. I'm using a COT 50 before the DS2 and it sounds good.
John used the DS2 after the wah on Mothers Milk and BSSM Era? Listening to songs like "Stone Cold Bush" the DS2 seems to be after the WH10 on 90's
The best way to reduce signal loss caused by the WH10 is the CE-1 preamp. I invite you to watch my CE-1 videos to understand, it's explained pretty well and one of the two videos has also spanish subtitles if you need.
No, John always used the DS-2 before the WH10. What you ear on Mother's is probably a bare WH10 pushing an overdriven amp (that's why seems that the distortion comes after the wha).
Hey Will! Really appreciate you taking the time to help us with these videos. Could you tell me the dimensions of your pedalboard and what it was made out of? Apologies if this was already asked and answered. Thank you!
I don't remember materials honestly, it's just light wood... for measures I may have answered it like 2-3 times already, please try searching through comments and videos because I can't take measures anytime soon... thanks!!
Will Galluccio Okay thank you for the fast reply! I will look. I am creating a board very similar to yours and have collected most of these pedals already. Any idea where to buy a WH10 from? Is Wilson Effects modded one good enough?
If I had to, personally I wouldn't go for a Wilson.
Okay. I can't seem to find or afford a vintage WH10, so at the moment i'm just struggling to find something that really nails the sound. Any recommendations?
WH10 V2 is close enough.. at least closer then the Wilson imho...
Are you selling the JF Fuzz pedal? That is an amazing looking/sounding pedal with the glowing Octo eyes. Let me know!
Strangewaystribute Yes I do! Thanks.
Hey Will - hope you're well bud.
I've got another question haha
Do you know if JF uses the mosrite fuzzrite v1 (germanium) or one of the other models? I heard that the v1 is not good with temperature.
Also, have you tried getting that watery sound on the FM4? I've dialed something similar in but not quite there yet haha.
One more - sorry - what do you think about Josh Klinghoffer's pedal board - I know he changes a lot of stuff around but I really like how experimental he is with pedals - with my pedalboard I'm sort of basing if of JF and JK plus a bit of my own input
Ah! One more - how do you think the CE-1 vibrato compares to the VB-2? I really like vibrato and I'm wondering whether I should go for the CE-1 or CE-2 + VB2.
Will, I hope you don't mind me asking so many questions. I really enjoy what you do and you are the JF tone authority haha. Peace out bro!
Hi Jim, first of all welcome to my channel and thank you so much for all your words. I'm not even close to being an "authority" man, I just share the best tips and my hard work to help as many as possible of you guys out there. Said so:
- JF used the Germanium version for sure. There is a big phase question going on with the CE-1 preamp, DS2 and different Fuzzrite models which is worth analyzing. First of all, there are two versions of Fuzzrite.. Germanium and Silicon. What I found is that Germanium+Low mode+DS2 boosts, while Germanium+High mode+DS2 cuts volume.. for silicon it's the exact opposite. Since we know he was on Low mode during Stadium Arcadium and since his Fuzzrite was boosting, it was definitely a Germanium unit.. plus you can really hear how it sounds more like a Germanium rather then a Silicon during some small plays that he did just with that pedal ON, I mean not combined with DS2.
Yes, the Germanium Fuzzrite has temperature "issues"; it basically doesn't sound always the same... its sound changes according to temperature. It could be more gated, more gain, more acid, less, according to the temp. But I actually find this funny and interesting, as every day you have a slightly different sound which fires up your will of enjoying playing with the pedal.
- Yes I've tried and there is also a video about FM4 on my channel. You can definitely come close, but a different solution would be much better than it. I would suggest going FM4 only if you don't have any particular need of sounding spot on.. otherwise I am developing an LFO Low Pass filter pedal which sounds just like John's Moog Low Pass + CP251.
- I think that Josh is definitely more towards the end of experimenting with weird pedals and sounds. He likes modular synths a lot, and tries to bring that also to his guitar playing with some weird filters etc. and I apreciate that. He also uses some good old germanium fuzz pedals, as well as modern stuff and I love his pedalboard as well. Actually right now he is also using on his pedalboard one of my CE-1 Ensemble Crunch pedals, so I'm obviously biased haha :)
- The CE-1 vibrato isn't actually a real vibrato since there is dry signal mixed in as well. So it's more like a really pronounced chorus, unless you use just the stereo output and get only the Wet out. I personally love the CE-1, so I would forever go for it. It's so lush and perfect sounding. But this may not be your taste, it could also depend upon how much versatility you would need. Anyway, if you will think about going CE-1, I'm building a compact 9V CE-1 reissue as well that you may be interested to hear! :)
Thank you again, I love answering to really good questions like yours, so no need to sorry at all.
Best regards!
Will Galluccio Will Galluccio that's interesting - I've heard that about the CE-1 vibrato - so your reissue has the same vibrato?
Good to know about the mosrite -
Yes I saw your video about your lowpass filter pedal - sounds great dude! I've got a moog low pass but I wouldn't mind getting your one too for a bit more versatility. I'm also struggling with the WH10 issue - as many do haha - I watched ypur video on your WH11 last night - I'm interested - you still sell them?
I'm gonna send you some photos of my setup.
Thanks Will!
Yeah, my reissue is basically 100% the same effect.
With just the Low Pass you can't get the LFO sound, you would need the CP251 sadly. Yes I still sell them but what's your issue?
Hit me up whenever you want man, I'm always glad to help if possible!
Will Galluccio yea those Moogs are so rad but man they're chunky haha.
Well my problems with the WH10 is that it's hard to find v1s, the plastic housing is really flimsy and the V2s don't get the same sound as the V1.
I noticed that you use a V1 inside a better housing (deepthroat housing) - I was wondering why you don't use your WH11- I did watch ypur video but I'm wondering if you could explain the sonic difference between WH10V1 and WH11 a bit more.
Cheers Will
what the heck wh10 copy is that??
Hey will great vid! Do u ship CE-1 crunch to other country? Where can I order :)
Why is your DL4 before your FM4 on your board? Is it just in order to have your delays next each others? Because it would have necessitate a much shorter cable if you had place the FM4 in between, right? Is it a smarter choice for foot work?
I need it in the center since the Line 6 stomps are the hardest ones to stomp on while playing, and I use the DL4 much more often then the FM4. Actually, right now, I have the FM4 off my board and I am using a little boutique Mistress and a little boutique Obi Wha/Envelope that I built for myself.
Thanks for the answer Will! Makes sense now :)
Where would you put something like a Marshall jackhammer in this? Also would a compressor be the first in the chain?
I’d use the jackhammer before it hits the modulation stuff … it’s usually used as an always on pedal to replicate John’s amp tone . What pedals do you have at present?
Ciao Will, cosa ne pensi del pedale MXR Dynacomp? So che durante la registrazione di BSSM lo ha usato per Under The Bridge (forse solo per la intro?). Pensi che avere un compressore posso aiutare per pezzi in stile Give It Away, Charlie ecc ecc... io l'ho piazzato dopo il tuner. Chitarra-Tuner-Mxr Dynacomp-DS2-Microamp-Big Muff Nano-WH10v3-CE1Preamp-Silver Jubilee Combo. Nella Fx Loop ho il CE-2w in CE-1 Mode e un Holy Grail Neo Reverb
Tira fuori la coppia CE2w e Holy Grail dall’FX loop e sei apposto! Mettili come ultimo pedale in catena dopo il preamp
@@WillGalluccio Grazie ci proverò 🤟🏻
Will, I have your CE1 Ensemble Crunch. Do you think a Micro amp is going to add something? Do I need both? And where should I put them (guitar - ds2 - wah - micro amp - big muff - ensemble crunch - chorus... is it right?)?
I mean, you don't NEED both, but i suggest you so.. it gives you a better control over your whole rig and more versatility overall.
Anyway the right order would be: guitar, DS2, micro amp, big muff, wha, CE-1 preamp, chorus, reverb, amps)
Will please... Configuration electro harmonix bif muff?? Thanks
Volume on max, tone on half, sustain a touch less then max
Will Galluccio thanks! Crack!!
You'r main Tone its clean Tone or overdrive channel whit a Litle gain?
Amp settings ?
Thank you
Hector Zamudio Clean getting that crunch from the ce1 preamp
Nice video man, i love it, but one question. How & where can i get the J.F Fuzz Pedal? :000
facebook.com/triungulolabeffects/
Thanks man!
Excelente
But how is the order, does the ds2 go in your Amp and then left to right and the wah right and the in your guitar or?
Amp-ds2 - muff- micro amp - wah - guitar
Or
Amp - wah - micro amp - muff - ds2 - guitar
???
Physically the electric signal flows from the guitar to the amp. Looking it the other way round makes no sense to me.
@@WillGalluccio so do the order just the way I like it, I just have to have the right padals
@@lorenzowijker4200 No, the point is that looking at a chain like Amp->pedals->guitar is wrong because signal flows into this direction Guitar->pedals->amp
@@WillGalluccio duhh sorry I'm stupid😂
@@WillGalluccio but is it important for the john sound that guitar goes in the ds2 first or fist in the wah or micro amp?
Will, u think that a Marshall MG 30 ou MG 100 can do John's clean tone? And I wanted to know if those amps suport pedals like the ds-2 or some other heavy distortion pedal
with a ce-1 they could do a decent job
Are both of your line 6 plugged in together ?
How did you get that Ibanez whawha pedal ????
Can you walk me through the settings you are using for the FM4 Obi-Wah (Throw Away Your Television sound), Tell Me Baby delay, and PDS slap back delay sound?
Have you tried taking a look at all my videos? I already did answer all of this.
Will Galluccio I apologize. I discovered your other videos after I commented. I do have one more question; I’m unsure if you covered this already... How do you get your wah tone? I’m using the WH-10 modded by Kevin Wilson (Wilson Effects), and I have it on the same setting as you, as well as my DS2 and Big Muff. Whenever I use the wah, it overpowers the distortion and I lose a lot of the gain-y sound and it’s just all filtered. So, how do you maintain the distortion through the wah?
Where do you have it in your chain? I'm not doing anything special honestly.
Will Galluccio Stratocaster - Fuzz Factory - Compressor, OCD, POG, DS2, Tremoglo (Boost), Big Muff, WH-10. I have heard that if you crank up the gain of the amp a bit until it just starts to break up, you can get that tone with the wah, but I haven’t been too successful.
Try placing a buffer or a buffered pedal at the end of the chain and let me know. Maybe WH10's buffer isn't good enough to bring the signal to the amp. I would suggest CE-1 preamp, but i know it's something pricey.
hey Will! i have a problem with my wh10v2 , when im doing the wah, the sound is crackly, i tried to clean the pot, it helps little bit but i can still hear cracks.
have you had this problem before? what do you recommend i can do to fix it...
Hi. It is a common problem. I always suggest to not spray anything inside because it could get even worse and attract more dust into the potentiometer since it's sticky stuff. The best solution is to open up the potentiometer and clean it up by hand with etilic alcohol, but it's not easy and you could damage it even more. The last thing would be changing it.. if you will solve the problem, try to store it in a safe place without humidity, cold, and dust!
will you do a video of cleaning it?... i think i will mess it up open it.....
I will not do a video about it. Not everyone has the right skills and knowledge of dealing with this stuff... and the ones who have a little knowledge of elctronics and guitar pedals are probably able to do this by themselves already. If you are not sure about it, ask to someone who deals with these things. For example, I, with Triungulo Lab, offer pedals and repairs.
i did, and more cracks, haha, its so sticky inside, i can see whats going on inside the pot now... i think maybe i know what i can do thanks
Wilson Effects
This pedalboards cool n all. But is it really practical to take down to the local bar to play a gig
Odin Runes It's heavy to bring around, but it keeps me trained hahaha! Anyway, for the enormous amount of stuff that's squeezed on it, yes it's practical even if a bit heavy!
Will,
I am having trouble with the DS-2 and the WH-10 volume boost. Any recommendations? I also have the Big Muff. What settings work best when combining it with the DS-2 ? Thanks.
I manage to compress my sound (and solve the boost issue) thanks to the CE-1 preamp. Without it I would have a huge boost if I wasn't using my head really cranked up. I don't know what to suggest you... what's your gear in general? Amp? Guitar? Signal path? Thanks.
My signal path is:
Mexican fender strat > Boss DS-2 > Big Muff > MXR micro amp > Ibanez WH-10 > Marshall DSL 40 combo amp
I think that the issue is that I cannot get the Marshall DSL 40 to compress enough.
Grant McMichen That's right! You need more compression.. although compressor pedals don't work really well.. you really need a gain compression
Complimenti WIll, bel video!!
Will Galluccio grazie mille!!
Hi Will Galluccio. Im having issues with the sound of my Ibanez Wah.
The order is Amp - DS2 Turbo - IbanezW10_V1 - Guitar.
When i engage both pedals, the Wah doesn't sound very pronounced. Theres no "wah" or much difference when the Wah is engaged.
There is a slight difference when i engage the amps Crunch - more pronounced. But for some reason, when I engage just the DS2 and Wah...the wah sounds flat. I tried putting an EQ pedal in-between...and Boss Compressor, but still not much of a Wah sound with the DS2 and IBanezWah engaged at the same time.
Please help :O
T T Contact me directly on Facebook or through email and show me the issue. It sounds like your wha pedal may need some maintenance (?)
It's because the WH10 needs to go after the DS2 output. It seems like you are plugging your guitar straight into the WH10, so you need to reverse how the two pedals are wired.
Yeah man, I misread his comment and thought that the order was fine, but then I show him how to do in private on Facebook
@@OllyVert i have the same issue, and i dont understand what u mean
@@Matthew-gm7vc it means your signal should go Guitar > DS-2 > WH10 > Amp. Whenever combining a distortion and a wah, you gotta play around and see which order works best. But for Frusciante tones he always went from Guitar > DS-2 > WH10
Hey, I know this question is not related to the video, but do you know where I can get a retro sonic chorus? these last days I've been looking for someone for sale and I can not find any
Why spend so much on a retro sonic when you could save up just a little bit more money to get the ce-1? Anyway... ebay, reverb...
i have a concern, can i replace a MXR microamp with a cruncher?
Hi!
I am very helped by your videos
So i have a question
i dont have two amps to stereo
and i dont have a ce1(but i have a chorus pedal)
how i use a holy grail
before chorus ?or after?
sorry for my bad english
after
Hey do you know a phaser pedal that gets me the same sound? That they still make
Chase Bliss Wombtone
could you do a video explaining maybe how to get some decent bssm live tones with this board?
I'm not much into that era in terms of tone. Anyway, he was probably using CE1 in high mode which made his tone different and probably he preferred more gain and treble
Will Galluccio that’s actually really helpful! thankyou! in more specific, i was going to ask if you knew how to get the compressed chorus-y tone in give it away? thanks again!
sorry i can be more specific, how would he have played songs like give it away in the stadium arcadiuk era? :)) thanks
@@alexwilliams7243 Micro amp + CE1 (and CE1 preamp helping). That's all
Will Galluccio thankyou!!
Help me.. My Order pedal is Guitar - overdrive - ds2 - microamp - bigmuff - ibanez wah 10 but this pedal = Change The volumen
I solve this issue using the Silver Juilee which attenuates a lot of volume boosts. Then a big role in attenuating volume boost is done as well by the CE-1 preamp
Will Galluccio where do you put those pedals?
Does anyone know what model Big Muff that is that comes in that size?
It's just one that I built for myself on John's Big Muff exact specs. It's not officially built by anyone. I am working on a Big Muff project although, stay tuned!
@@WillGalluccio ah ok. Thought so. Lookin forward to it!
Hello my friend , one little question for you !
Do you know what acoustic string John use in this 0-15 ?
And Do you think he use in this solo acoustic live a PEA amplification
Thanks so much

Did Josh ever use the pedals?
Yes, Triungulo Lab pedals have been seen and photographed on his board during his last Peppers tour.
@@WillGalluccio how cool is that!! Wow!

Yes
Hi Will, The Ibanez WH 10 is V1 mij or V2?
Thanks
It's a rehoused MIJ v1
Ayudame porfavor tengo mis pedales desde la guitarra sigue un Overdribe luego ds2, Micro amp , big muff y despues el wah ibanez pero cuado lo uso solo o combinado me levanta mucho el volumen . ayudame porfavor que hago :(
I don't understand, sorry
Will Galluccio The wah pedal lifts the volume when I activate it. It is in the same order that you place it
Yes but the WH10 isn't my last pedal. I have the CE-1 then which has an always ON preamp which compresses the sound, plus I am using a valve amplifier which compresses the sound as well
Will Galluccio Thank you, all is perfect - Guitar - Overdrive - Ds2 - micro amp - big muff - wah - compressor - Line 6 dl4 - amplifier :). well done!! muchas Gracias
Great work and thanks for the help! I have been working on this same project for a few years. One question, what exactly is the frantone big muff? Is that a 1990s era muff? The new muffs are such crappy fuzzy mess. Thanks again
First of all, thanks for your comment.
No, the Frantone Big Muff is what was used by John, and it's pretty much an early 2000 NYC Big Muff. The first reissues (when EHX bring back the Big Muff production to the US) were built based on a Frantone project. In fact EHX let Frantone engineer the first reissue schematic. Sadly this happened for only few years (until 2002 I think), and they later on switched to other schematics for the pedal. BTW, John clearly used one of those Frantone (you can tell from the aesthetics). In my opinion, they are the best sounding Muffs together with the Ram's head.
I couldn't find an original 2000 version, so I custom built mine upon that exact same specs, and sounds exactly like it (I compared it to a legit one which my friend owns).
Nice work on recreating the muff...and thanks again on the clarification of pedal order, the difference is INSANE! I run my rig through a 1970 Marshall Superbass and always felt it was alittle dark, thin, and just good, not great, with my pedal chain plugged in. Now it is so full, thick and rich and everything works in harmony. My 2 mistakes were the damn micro amp in 1st position, and ce-1 was after phaser, before the line 6 stuff. I subscribed, thanks buddy!
It seems like you have some fun stuff going on! I am so happy that this helped you. Thanks for your feedback. Keep in touch! :)
Does anyone know what songs JF used the Ring modulator and the Bass MuRF on?
The Bass MuRF is just like a Murf but has another frequency cut. Nowdays the MuRF can do both, bass and guitar with a switch. I don't think that he used the Ring Mod really. Maybe in some strange jam here and there, but not in any song.
What's that song called in the beginning
It's just something I came up with
are both of the Moog Low Pass Filter's the same???
brett bettag what do you mean?

@@WillGalluccio very cool. Have u had any signal loss after wiring it all up and what can be done to recover the full signal? I'm building mine and I wanna do it right
@@jacekmma no signal loss thanks to some buffers and CE1 preamp
Will Galluccio i was thinking about a buffer. Cool man, thanks
What about the MXR Dyna Comp that he used it?
He never used it on his pedalboard. There are rumors that he used in into BSSM record, but honestly it's just a compressor so anyone is really free to use one or not
Will Galluccio One more thing that I'd like to ask you. Frusciante used any overdrive pedal like (boss sd 1 or anything else) because there are rumours about that.
I don't think he really did honestly, but do not take my words too seriously..!
Will Galluccio thank u very much for your response. Also I would like to ask you two more things. First where did u find the Line 6 FM4 and secondly where did you find the Boss Ce 1?
Hi will, nice job...but do you use some buffer? or loop switch? the chain of pedals is really long lot of effect are not true bypass i think...so maybe the guitar signal loose a lot of tone??
Thanks
Good topic. Do you know that Boss pedals have in-built buffers? This is my pedalboard:
- Boss DS-2 (buffered)
- JF Fuzz (True Bypass)
- Mxr Micro Amp (True Bypass)
- Frantone Big Muff (True Bypass)
- WH10 (buffered, even if its buffer is shit)
- Moog Phaser (buffered)
- Moog Low Pass (buffered with ext. drive control)
- Moog MuRF (buffered)
- Digitech PDS 1002 (buffered)
- Line 6 FM4 (True Bypass)
- Line 6 DL4 (True Bypass)
- Boss CE-1
- Holy Grail (True Bypass)
As you can see my chain is a mix of buffered pedals and true bypass ones. This is usually the best solution for long pedalboards since a lot of True Bypass pedals work basically as a long guitar cable, and they start to cut your signal.. but if you place a buffer or buffered pedal before any long true bypass chain, the low impedance can make your signal travel safe through a lot of True Bypass pedals.
whats the first song you played in the video?
which one?
from 0:00-0:13ish ive heard it in a few videos but dont know what it is haha
Actually it's something that I came up with at the moment.. I don't know honestly if it's an exiting song or not..
Huh I thought I also heard it in one of Olly Vert's videos, it sounds really cool! thanks for the fast reply
well if you did please post a comment there and link me to it, maybe my brain just memorized it but i forgot haha
Donde puedo conseguir ese pedal Ce-1?
Hector Zamudio I don't know, eBay?
Hi Will - I have a CE-1 question. I'm from New Zealand and I've encountered a problem with using the CE-1 here. The voltage output is 230/240 for most mains in NZ. I'm guessing this could damage a CE-1 unless I used a converter.
I'm aware that in the US there is no need for a voltage converter because the voltage output is similar as Japan's (100 volts).
I've searched the internet for an answer. I was wondering if there are different CE-1 models which use different voltage requirements, or if there is a cool compact voltage converter that can be tucked under a pedalboard haha.
I just wonder what JF did when he came to NZ.
Sorry for the long question. Would appreciate any thoughts you have on this issue. Thanks bro!
Jim Stringer Seems like in New Zealand you have the European standard voltage. You can simply search for a 220V CE-1 unit. Buying a downscaler using the 110V one would be a valid but complicated option. Another one would be to sub the internal transformer that the pedal has.. taking the 110V one subbing it to a 220V model.
Artists like RHCP use some pretty big power generators which take any current and clean it // regulate it to any specs you need. So they simply had their beloved 110V around the world using big converters.
Thanks!
Will Galluccio thanks so much for your reply. I knew you would have the knowledge to help me out. I'll begin my search for a 220v model
i had one from the UK, got the electrician to cut the plug off and put a NZ plug on, test it to meet NZ Standards -win!
did you make the physical pedalboard?
