  • A "naked" chatterbait doesn't have a skirt but just uses the effectiveness of the unique blade design along with some sort of trailer to allure fish like crazy. Sometimes the fish just want a different look.
In this W-Central MO, mid-December 2023 video, a regular sized "original" Z-Man Chatterbait with a 4-inch MinnowZ trailer worked really well in and around dead and dying lily pad stems in 10 ft or less.
In a smaller configuration, a Z-Man Chatterbait Micro with a 3.75" StreakZ trailer worked really well in depths of 5-8 feet.
The StreakZ, without the "boot" tail of a swimbait, allowed the lure to sink quickly and the smaller profile triggered lots of strikes.
Rudie Tootie (Papillon) provides commentary and encouragement for anyone who wants to give Naked Chatterbaits a try!
    Enjoy the show.

Awesome Stuff Don. Your “NAKED” Chatterbait Modification is a great twist on an old Trick. So effective that Z-Man has capitalized on what they call a DeZelMinnowZ Chatterbait Called the Deziel Chatterbait made for salt water with Higher grade line Ties allowing to fish it in the grass using Braided line and also great in hopping it off the Bottom with fluorocarbon line

Chatterbait has a place in the tackle box. Pike and bass love them here in SE WI, but it's a "love/hate" type deal. If the bite is on, it's on. If not, put it away for the day!

Hello Don, I'm getting caught up with your site, having been viewing too many other less important subjects. I mean what's more interesting than fishing videos, huh? I just simply stand locked jaw wide open at all the fishing paraphernalia available today. Back in the early 50's, yes, last century, I recall visiting the local hardware store with my ten cent a week allowance and having maybe three shelves of fishing items to choose from. Two weeks allowance and I could by a daredevil. Today those three shelves have grown to 13 aisles and i've yet to catch a fish that said I was using cheap equipment. lol!! All kidding aside, I like those chatter baits too and fish them in all types of water, weedy, not weedy, rocky, sandy bottom and I like them better without skirts too. You know sometimes less is better and those simple designs work. I'm convinced it's the flash more than anything that entices fish to give chase. Enjoying your videos and hope you have a joyous holiday season too.
