I appreciate you playing the original sample before running it in the GR-1. I know I came in here 5 years after the fact, but I just got a used GR-1! Thanks for the video.
PERFECT demo, mate. No talking, egos, acting like a dipshit on camera, no clickbait, lousy audio through a phone. Just the synthesis. And included the original samples too! Subscribed, keep it up.
dude, I just bought one because of your demo. This is a GREAT demo. Thank you for showing the original waveform and the resulting patch. fucking awesome.
Thank you for making this showcase video! It’s the best example of what the GR-1 can do. @ 4:50 I’m blown away. I want one of these, but I think I’ll wait for a GR-2 if it’s in the cards.
Theee best demo of this incredible hands on device. Yes, you can do something like this in M4L or Padshop etc, but this is dedicated hardware and it truly has a sound of it’s own.
Awww man, got my mouth watering. I'm in the 2nd batch so I think im in the home stretch to receive this thing. Your video has my heart pounding!!! Thanks for posting,.
This is amazing! Good job! Nice that you put original samples. Sometimes it's hard to believe that such a great sounds are created from a regular sample. Like the first one or Kawai k1m. This thing adds so much complexity to the sound... I'm more and more convinced about this product, even though peoples opinion is that it is overpriced and you can do the same with vsts..
This ( granular synth ) and a hydrasynth or argon 8 ( wavetable synths) would cover the abilities of a Waldorf quantum and enough change for some other VA or real analog DM 12 ?
Awesome. I've been using analog synths in my band but looking for a way to make nice bell and sample-based sounds. Adding in the granular fuckery would just be a bonus.
This machine is the most exciting thing to hit the market in decades.. far more immediate and tactile that the Waldorf Quantum to use.. I can't stop playing mine
I want one! Granular sampling is the next best thing after full resynthesis. This thing combined with modeled resonators would get very close to my ultimate synth. The new Waldorf Quantum might come even closer to that ideal but it is very expensive. This one however is decently priced, already sounds awesome as it is and has a VERY intuitive user interface. Yep, I surely want one!
how good is the GR-1 in the low end? some pure digital machines are pretty weak there when it come to samples (and one reason for still using vintage sampler btw...)? In short: how good is the Lowpass filter ?& Thanks for this - it illustrates very well that you'll get really interesting stuff out of relatively one dimensional input.
I have one and many future discoveries in the world of infinite wave frequency. this revolutionary war machine plunges us into a new world of synthesizer...
i can't lie, this seems really cool. don't know though if i wanna buy it, i can pretty much do granular synthesis with omnisphere and control it directly with prophet x due to the recent software/hardware integration update. i do wanna try this though.
If the sample is played lower does it make it slower, also if a sound is looped and it is played lower, does the looping get slower, and if so, is there a way to turn that off
Although the very first example seems to include some keyboard playing most are just producing sound while in autorepeat. Then all the grains repeats and stereo pannings are 1 voice. If you actually see 2 hands in the picture you can be pretty shure about it anyway because that probably means nobody is playing a the keyboard. If I am correct it is presently 16-voice on top of that. So it will indeed turn every monosample into something that can be played polyphonically. Because full phrases are recorded it however often seems to do a lot more already then just loop / repeat /granulate one sample.
it has cv inputs and usb connect, so yes, you can play via midi controller :) you can also assign up to four notes/tones to play, but it's obviously not so convenient. and it is polyphonic. crazy, expensive synth
I got padshop pro in Cubase, and I'm still wondering wtf this grainy synth stuff is useful for, if we are still refraining from becoming total androids
I think you do not get it. Of course people are doing a lot of freaky stuff just by chance but one can also use this to isolate a singlt tone/note from sample and then play real musical parts on it. It basically does what older samplers could not do and only first became widely availble via Roland's V-processor technology: Duration and tuning of samples can be detached from achother. And one also get 's rid of much of the old hassle of looking for looppoints. If you have ever worked with a 80's samplar you know what I mean. So for creative sampling it is spot on.
There is more than enough eurorack modules to last a hundred decades available already, its nice to see an idea grow into an actual real instrument instead of module everything. Buy an ER-301 or g0 if you need granular in your modular.

the processed kurzweil sound is magical, nice demo.
Thanks for sharing. You were right to include the original sample. It was very useful!
Nice! I had saved for nearly a year for the GR1 but the demos were just all so uninspiring.
Until I found you! And i'm back!!
LOUD EXCITED SWEARING!!!!!!! ok this is really awesome , as is what you're playing on it . thanks for introducing this crazy to us all!!
Thank you for making this showcase video! It’s the best example of what the GR-1 can do.

Really nice demo! :) Mine is just arriving next week! :)

Great ambient machine. Wouldn't mind feeding it some DX-7 stuff.
Ordered mine last week! Can't wait

Sounds like the future.
Ok ok,,,i'm gettn one..you done did it now Mr..Your persuasion has cost me Money..What do you have to say for yourself now...lol.....AWESOME Vid btw

love the Gr1
Amazing that it's hardware! Looks and sounds fantastic

4:48 on loop! Beautiful!
A bit like Feurio Enstürzende Neubauten.

Marc Brassé you nailed it. ....yes
Time to write that letter to Santa.
very dope. i think you just sold me on the Casio XW-P1 though.. that thing sounds crazy
It provides musical fun! It's great! No worries, Buddy!
Thanks for this great video !!
But i'm not sure to understand the routing (link usb with your midi keyboard? what the white IN ?)

Almost got one of these but went with Maschine instead . No regrets but this looks fun.
If only padshop sounded this good I would save 1K ......excellent.
This thing is unbelievable - I agree future of wacky synthesis at least :-)
I have one and many future discoveries in the world of infinite wave frequency. this revolutionary war machine plunges us into a new world of synthesizer...

Are these just playing on various loop types, or is there a sequencer/movement recorder?
4:50 sold me.
So you load a sample into it via usb connection, then do granular processing on that sample?
If the sample is played lower does it make it slower, also if a sound is looped and it is played lower, does the looping get slower, and if so, is there a way to turn that off
I can not find this product! Thank.
Fantastic machine!!!
So...basically a synth that does the equivalent of Ensoniq transwave synthesis? Nice to see someone making something marginally affordable.
Wow! I love this thing more and more.
How many octaves do you get playing chromatically?
Still waiting on mine. Hopefully it will ship soon!
Wow. So freaking cool!
3:40 has to be my favorite! So thick and lush
Oh, shit, I need this!
this is so sick
Were the polyphonic bits recorded chords or can you turn mono into poly within the gr-1?
Although the very first example seems to include some keyboard playing most are just producing sound while in autorepeat. Then all the grains repeats and stereo pannings are 1 voice. Does this thing sample on the fly or you can only dump sample files into it?
Both, with sampling on the fly only if you plug in an USB audio interface / dongle.
Can you sample something weird for demonstration. Like an orchestra hit, or a used-car commercial or something?
Is there a gluten-free version of this? I'm allergic to life.
Nice!
Can you tune it in order to play it with a keyboard along other instruments?
it has cv inputs and usb connect, so yes, you can play via midi controller :)
you can also assign up to four notes/tones to play, but it's obviously not so convenient.
and it is polyphonic. crazy, expensive synth
16 note poly with up to 128 'grains' per voice
Absolutely Amazing synth , really interested in it. How many voices ?
Any useful advice on it?
Thanks for sharing
11 voices currently.. 16 when we complete optimization.
Tasty Chips wow...price?
849 eur
wow €€€ but probably totally worth it as far as hardware goes... makes me want to see if i can emulate this in Granulator for now
J Whitty just for the display, knobs, switches, faders and enclosure that is a good price. A really really nice piece of hardware.
WHen is the release?
Great demo! What does this do that I couldn’t do in Ableton simpler? (Apart from it being hardware)
Every example: Me: Sounds like Bladerunner.
I got padshop pro in Cubase, and I'm still wondering wtf this grainy synth stuff is useful for, if we are still refraining from becoming total androids

a eurorack version would be nice...
There are already a ton of Granular samples for Eurorack....

Why? This is way more ergonomic. Unless you have not much desk space left. No wires wires fkin WIRES getting in the way here
Did they abandon this project?
no
3:55 weeee

whooooo 5:41 eeeeeee
7:15 is insane
Nothing shameless about this noodle O.O
Uh.... What!!!!
Cool as $400 dollars cool not $1000 plus
Still worth every penny..
Expensive...
