    Hi Lars,
Liked the part about inserting a part from McMaster Carr and then using the Pattern option to move copies of the inserted part to different locations on the assembly.

The extrude offset saves me soooo much time. Wish I would have known that sooner lol. I always learn something from these.

This was very helpful, I could not wrap my head around why a component was so valuable. I got the general concept but did not have a full grasp on it till I watch this video. Thank you.

Very good video. It resolved several issues I was having. I really like when you go through the entire process and show why things are done and some alternate methods. A++++

Lars, if the sketch is created first, and then the component is created and activated before the sketch is actually extruded, the sketch then becomes part of that component! I did NOT know that, I originally thought you had to create the sketch AFTER creating a component and actually create the sketch INSIDE of that component to have it follow the component when saved out separately, but now I just tried it and I see that the sketch does also follow with the component when saving a copy, even if the sketch was created before creating the component, which is very cool! I think the main reason to follow rule #1 is for this very reason as you say, because if you want to reuse just the wheel, the sketch will follow along with it, where if you make it as a body and then after convert it to a component, you loose the sketch and any way to drive changes.
I think it would be super cool if fusion came up with a way to actually drag the sketches from the parent into the component after it is created from a body, that would solve all of this, but I imagine that is not possible because of how that would go against the timeline?, so since this is not possible (yet?), that alone is a very good reason to just follow rule #1. if you are not going to ever use just one part over again in another design then I guess it doesn't matter all that much (except for having the sketches better organized with each component instead of having to edit it up in the tree after, and not really knowing which component it is associated with which sketch),
...OR what I'm thinking may work is to just not ever convert the bodies into a separate components and just leave it all as bodies, all in one top down parent component, because then perhaps you can bring the whole thing into another design along with the bracket and pin, but then in the new design just delete the bracket and pin, leaving you with just an editable wheel, as if it was a separate component, but this is kinda mickey mouse compared to just following rule #1 I think, and would get complicated the more parts there are in a design. I have gotten myself into a lot of headaches by not knowing anything about rule #1 and I completely get now why it exists and will always try to remember to do that to make future work much easier, worthy of being rule #1 I'd say :)
your livestreams are really GREAT, keep up the great work man, big fan here, could not have done half of what I do in fusion without you :)

... also, I used to get pop ups on my computer all the time notifying me of a live stream from you, but then all of a sudden they just stopped and I wondered have you stopped doing them? but now I see that youtube has changed there notification system and I have to click on the bell to get notified of every new video from you so hopefully now again I'll get a chance to join you live again from time to time :) now I have to go back and catch up on some of the later livestreams I've missed :)

I follow rule number 1, but recently I designed a case and used 2 components for a lid and base, designed the item and then realised I needed to have a hinging mechanism and have the case be in 3 parts for clearance around a tool whilst loading and unload. Is there an easy way to make the parts components but maintain the parametric data for each?

Thanks, again a good reason to follow rule #1 to get time line history when saving as.

For a new video... Is there a decent workaround until NPT threads are added to Fusion?
