Hi Lars, and thank you. I've only been finding out how to use F360 for about 8 weeks in preparation for delivery of a 3D printer. Your tutorials have been my goto resource. However the latest Autodesk moves mean I'll be off. I should have known better as I got caught out previously when Autodesk bought out a small drawing package i was using and over time moved to the subscription scenario...that was about 30 years ago.
Anyhow, I still thank you personally for the tutorials, and method of delivery. I'll miss being taught CAD by Al Capone, aka Lars.

I have watched many of Lars's videos in detail and gained quite a bit of knowledge (at least for me). Over the last year they have gotten me over many road blocks.
Even when I don't have time to concentrate on a video I have found a way to still learn from Lars:
When I'm working I que up some of Lars's videos and just run them in background. I had never even considered sculpting before and now, here I am! Another win for me thanks to the Great Lars Christensen!

I spent a lot of time on this channel, learning fusion 360, but with the new restrictions and no grand-fathering for existing designs, autodesk and fusion is a dead end for me. Started to learn FreeCad and loving it.

I feel exactly the same way. I deleted all of my subscriptions to Lars, Brad, Fusion etc as well as deleted Fusion 360 on my computer. More than happy to have made the switch to Solidworks as a student. Wish I did it 4 years ago.

Switched to FreeCad and love it. As opposed to Fusion 360, the time I invest learning it, will be useful for a long time for me. And, it's a local app, no cloud junk, versions change on you, and doesn't require an occasional login. Actually, FreeCad is a very impressive piece of software.

I understand there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world but it It is a real shame how Autodesk is taking away little by little from Fusion360 and moving it to a "pay"(subscription) service. If you ask me the long term plan is to replace Inventor with Fusion360 but that is just my wild guess. We only had to look at the Adobe model to have known this was going to come somewhere down the line. As they say c'est la vie and thanks for the videos over the years.

@Wallace I can't afford the £263 for 1Year special currently going so now I have to settle for paying £54pm!!! I honestly think that is crazy. We help them develop the software over a multi year time frame (input, suggestions, feedback, etc) and now this. I can see an exodus of people looking elsewhere. It is now a matter of principle. I am certainly one of those heading to something else.

So ultimately my understanding from this is you can pretty much take 2d references and then make crude, rough sketching and with a little playing around you actually play with the body like it’s clay pretty much. That’s neat! I can’t wait to try this function and kinda leaned on the side of caution with having to form what I need but that kinda helps even further nail the part, if you will, down to what you physically need in different applications.

Every time I drop-down a menu, I'm faced with a number of options, & each option seems to lead to yet more options; I get lost. I reckon it will do what I want, but which of the dozens of switches to set to 'on', & which to 'off'? Is there a comprehensive & updated guide? took me ages to find the "edit by curve" technique, now to learn how to use it! & what settings to choose?

As nomenclature is important....vital even in this 3D industry, what you call something is important. A vertex and point could be considered the same thing for example but one wouldn't box a cylinder.
F360 is not sculpting. It's more of a tangential way of Sub-D modeling. You would, for example not call Rhino parametric even it can be changed with numbers just like F360.
Sculpting is zBursh, 3D Coat, or Blender for example because of the fact that the way the geometry is manipulated is generally with brushes.
Part of the reason why I feel it's important to really make this distinction is because users may think there doing something which they aren't. Or think they can approach a model in a way which they can't. If you think about what sculpting is, in the traditional sense, much like how lofting came from the boat industry and actually works in much the same way....sculpting shapes in marble or clay were carved with tools directly and this is not how F360 does it. Nor am I saying that it should I just feel it's important to call the balls and strikes appropriately.

Good stuff. Thanks for the Tube-always entertaining and insightful.
I'd like to ask for a Tube showing an imported 3D model that was scanned, imported into F360, and then making a model that fits around it.
Using the form/plane tool that lets you take the shape of a model's surface when applying the pull tool in the form/modify section helps make better fitting parts.....so I would think......
I've spent the last couple of weeks importing obj files and converting them into a mesh body that the points of a plane clings to the mesh when using the pull tool.....BUT....some parts of my model had sharper corners/curves that made this approach really tough.
When I prototype things that need to fit a complex/real-world shape it really helps to have a 3D model you can create a shape around instead of using this form tool (for my purpose-not a comment on your video-which I loved).
If this approach could copy the surface of an imported mesh and then stitched together to then be turned into a lightweight body that can be used in F360 more easily than a hard-to-work with mesh I think that would help a lot of others.... and of course me.
one of my projects has multiple copies of a mesh that I've converted to a T-Spline is still bogging my new computer down to a crawl! And this thing is a beast. If I could copy the mesh into an F360 body my computer would sing!

      Yikes. Wall of text.

I am genuinely sad to be unsubscribing from Lar's channel, Brad's channel and Fusion/Autodesks channel. However, my goat is fried far to crisp to forgive what was done to those of us that were alpha and beta testers from the very beginning; offering bug reports and feature requests all while being promised that "Fusion will always remain free for personal/hobby use". In fact, I clearly remember Lars stating those very words. Little did we know that the free/hobby license would be castrated to a mere shell of the program we had become accustomed to. Autodesk posts BILLIONS of dollars in profits. How much money would they have lost if they had grandfathered those of us that were here from the beginning as a thanks for helping them to grow and propagate fusion to our subscribers and our community? What a wonderful trick they played by sucking all of us in by promoting this wonderful free software to nearly every youtube influencer on the planet. Talk about pulling the rug out from under an entire community. I've deleted all of my subscriptions and my copy of fusion. I only wish I had downloaded the student version of Solidworks (the industry standard for a reason) years ago. What a wonderful, complete, extremely capable software suite. I only regret losing so much time learning a piece of software I just deleted and never plan on going back to. What you did was dirty Autodesk. I'm choked and much of the community is choked, despite the patronizing move of returning STP to the file menu. I'm currently working on a prototype which I will commercialize via my new product development company. Not in a million years will I pay for a commercial license to Autodesk for any software. I'm more than happy to learn Solidworks as a student and once I am using their software to generate money, will happily purchase a commercial seat. You made your bed Autodesk. Burn me once, shame on me. Burn me twice.....not gonna happen ever again. Buh-bye Autodesk. Going to miss Lars, Brad and the rest of the good people that are dealing with the fall out of a greedy move of a rotten company.

@@samsteel4456 Would that be similar to the critical thought you have demonstrated by avoiding the points I just raised completely by attempting to play the man not the ball with a clichéd ad hominem ? Critical thinking is a discipline you seem to be ignorant of apart from the name. Likewise there is none on display in your wall of whine above, no counterpoints, no analysis, no critique of your own position, just a self indulgent one sided snivel, now you find yourself at a knife fight with a toothpick

You are right it`s not. However, it might be the end of Autodesk Fusion 360 getting private users in a large scale. One of the things who kept me on the platform where the free file sharing and evolution who came from others improving my home designs, who has never ever been sold. They just removed 3 out of 4 legs of why home users should use Fusion360 - even when blodfans stay true. In the end, it will also affect Lars and the others who make great videos, since users will run away - and with them, future paying customers in a future work situation.

Have a listen to yourself, if you stopped saying kinda every three words, it would be less annoying to listen to you! All the best, Matthew.
