Professional sport can be a cruel world. Deep down we love what we do and wouldn't trade it for anything, but there are plenty of times where the process can be massively frustrating, heartbreaking, and confusing all at the same time. I (eric) am working through a very tough season where I haven't been able to perform to my ability level, and Paula has been struggling with a stress fracture in her foot for a couple months now. We're starting to feel the tides turn in our favor, but if there's anything our 20 years in the sport have taught us, it's that the road forward is anything but smooth. Progress is not linear, it's not as easy as trying harder, but there is an inherent joy in working through the most challenging obstacles and coming out the other side better than you were before.
Hey everyone! We're Eric Lagerstrom and Paula Findlay. We're both professional triathletes; we train for and race triathlon for a living. Thanks so much for subscribing and helping us keep triathlon fun.

I think most of us out here love watching you guys not because you are fantastic triathletes but because you are fantastic people and amazing story tellers. The fact that you are amazing triathletes is just a bonus. Never forget how much inspiration you guys give to us who live in the 8-5 world just by being you.

I really liked this VLOG, one of the most honest out there.... life has ups and downs but everybody is confused by IG always showing the "cool moments" or the BIG training sessions!, that's just not like that, not for age groupers and certainly not for professionals. This is one of the best things about this channel.... All the support for you two guys, we are always cheering for you no matter what.

Oh man, I kept thinking “I’m sorry” that you are having to go through this while watching. We are all here to support you and really hope you don’t feel ANY pressure to create content on a regular basis. Your TTL family wants you both to be happy and healthy and success will follow. Your cheering squad will be here regardless of how frequently the video arrives.

Paula, you posted about having low ferritin and that is such a hard thing to go through (as you know) that has major influences on injury rate, overall training durability, and our emotions too. You are doing the right things by addressing that problem. Hang in there and know we are all rooting for you!!

Thank you Paula for allowing scenes like that to be filmed, really shows the honest feelings and emotions your going through recovering from your injury. Its important to see the 'normal' side of top athletes be shown in the media (ie Simon Biles, Collen Quigley, Niomi Osaka) and be praised for it, and that counts for Eric too, you've certainly both been very open in recent vlogs as to the struggles with health, injury and the mental aspect of being top athletes.
I hope you feel better soon and recover to race to your potential at the 70.3 worlds.

Missed the live release this morning but still loved watched this with the chat replay so I could read y'all responding. I soooo appreciate this. The behind the scenes stuff is my favorite and not just as if the workouts were great. This puts into perspective how hard y'all work, which makes me a bigger fan. It's really helping me to see my way out of pandemic malaise and burn out to change some things (decided not to race this year at all; focus on strength; accepting my 50+ body where it is instead of chasing 5 yrs ago). So appreciate this!!

This was amazing. Rough, but amazing. I’ve been going through a running injury for so long and it’s been really hard. It helps to see honesty like this and to know that I’m not alone, and to know that it’s normal to feel really frustrated and discouraged. Praying that Paula recovers! Glad you’re feeling so pumped up, Eric. I’m going to be back whenever there’s a video, wether the style is different, it’s shorter, or anything else. Thank you so much for all you’ve done. ♥️ You guys have been a huge encouragement.

You guys are awesome. Keeping it real in our IG/FB era is not that common. We all feel those reals moments when we don't want to train, or hit those moments in our dark places in races/workouts. Your honesty is truly refreshing as we all battle with those moments. If it was easy - everyone would do it - but as triathletes we all expect perfection of ourselves all the time. Thanks for sharing these hard moments - it's refreshing - and we will all continue to love and support you. Hopefully we can all continue to love and support ourselves!

Honesty and transparency is always more valuable in my book. The trend in all mediaow a days is all for the Instagram type influencer pics and what not. I prefer rawness and emotion not plastic fakeness. I love watching you guys because of that dose of reality you give. It's not always sunshine and lollipops and Flynn. It's hard work, pain, suffering, emotions, and Flynn. Content that some fat guy like myself can relate to even though I'll NEVER be near your caliber is still relatable when it's honest. We all struggle with something, we all push hard, and sometimes we all fail.
    Great work. Keep it up.
Ps the slow mo of Flynn was funny as I didn't think it was slowed down yet until I saw the ball slowly fall in frame. I then went WOW we all need that dog's energy!

I believe I speak for many when I say that what we all like from your videos is the pure and raw honesty that is reflected on them about your daily life. We surely like the weekly videos we get, but I also firmly believe that many of us would rather have a video every 2 weeks if by doing that your training and life quality improve, than having a weekly video that stresses you out to get some content footage and doesnt let you train properly.
I just wanted to state the fact that your work is amazing, and the community you guys have built too, so whatever you guys decide to do you will have my full support, as im sure of many many others.

You know this life we choose whether you are a pro athlete or an age grouper is damn well hard you need to be as hard as nails to even begin to contemplate doing what we do on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis! At times it sucks, really sucks! The wanting to give up overtakes the wanting to continue. You just have to know the good times WILL return once more, and the setback will come to an end but during those dark times, you just need to remind yourself of how far you have come and what you have achieved, and what could come your way in the future. I have been doing all this mad stuff as an age grouper now for 30 years, I am now 59 years old! But the desire still burns deep inside, to better myself and keep pushing all the way until they finally throw the dirt on my box!! Stay safe, see you both next week. Much love from the UK.

First time watching. I was a decathlete in college, so this is very relatable. There's always something to train on and there's always events that we're naturally better in. My trick to get out of a "negative headpiece" was to train what I was worst at or what I hated doing. Lucky for me those were the same events. Because the smallest improvement would fire me up more. Anyways, good luck on your journey and keep your head down to the grindstone.

Paula my heart goes out to you. I am not a pro but if I get a bad patch of not training I do it properly... lol.
But believe in yourself. Look at this that make you happy and focus on that... it will make the training more bearable and easier... small achievements every day
