I’ve used both for years and over time almost completely ignore the tubes over them being so limiting in comparison. There’s endless freestyle motions possible with the flat bands along with anchored exercises and the ability to constantly change where you grip them for resistance is priceless. I never even hike or go running anymore without one. My longest lasting bands are always the thick solid flat ones and never the high end two-ply or tubes. I just use the tubes (with inner cords for safety) for certain heavy anchored stationary exercises with the handles these days.
Great stuff... Thank you for sharing.
Wow. Almost what I was thinking too 😂
Loop or flat are just way better. I use a power tower with an ankle strap and a big carbineer as an anchor point.
Can't go back to weights and just use the tube style for side delt exercises.
both rubber are very good for making deadly slingshot
Personally I prefer the tube bands. What he is showing there is a single tube band and its associated problems. I use a door jam anchor that you can't use with flat bands unless they come with one. Outside I can use a carabiner. You can get better angles with the tubes and a much lower pull resistance for rehab or smaller muscles. He does have a point about flat bands fitting straight into your hands without handles.
Then again, I have negated much of that problem by using the soft ankle straps tubes come with. That allows my hands to choose a comfortable angle and grip. You also have much more control over the resistance you require. Flats bands from what I have seen don't have the variety of resistance options.
My tubes also come with a light bar for attaching the bands for squatting, rows, chest and arm curls.
That said, I still use flat bands for some grunt exercises. They are better suited for extreme resistance, and they don't do your head in having to change and clip different resistance bands on to a handles like you do with tubes. There's no right or wrong answer here - it's what you need and what suits your aims.
I respect that position. Different people's priorities and goals are different so different tools fit into those goals. To each his own. You can learn more about my choices here if you're interested: resistancebandtraining.com/quantum-band-difference/
@@TheBandGym Thankyou for a reply.
Very balanced review. Thanks man!
Excellent video! I've been watching a lot of comparison videos discussing the pros and cons of these two separate types of band, and just couldn't decide whether to upgrade from my current cheaper tube bands (the lighter band having snapped at exactly the place you suggested would be under most strain). This video provides information none of the other videos I've watched did. Having watched, I've now decided to go for the flat, solid bands. Thank you very much. Subscribed.
Awesome! If you want more information about the benefits of using a flat band that uses a layered construction method check out this page. resistancebandtraining.com/quantum-band-difference/
That's terrific information. Thanks so much. Look forward to watching your other videos. Greg. 👍👍
I'm going flat band. That was A1 info.
but still you can fit 2 tubular bands to the handle and it will be the same. At the sam time when you use 2 or 3 light tubular you can use more weight. I have both tubular and flat bands. Both are useful. Dont go only for flat bands
Marcin Kaszubowski true. I just never owned flat. And all my tubulars eventually wear quick depending what I out them around. Poles at parks or my power rack. Indeed though now you mentioned using 2 tubes. I never thought of that.
To keep safe your tubulars band use a band barrier like this one www.amazon.co.uk/RESISTANCE-Bodylastics-Barrier-reinforced-stitching/dp/B00UL3G6QI/ref=sr_1_2?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1522607539&sr=1-2&keywords=band+barrier. And tru sometimes is better to take 2 light bands instead 1 strong. It makes less stress for handles. And dont forget about door anchor so you could use your doors at home to workouts www.amazon.co.uk/KYLIN-SPORT-Resistance-Attachment-Protective/dp/B015R1YJPI/ref=sr_1_5?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1522607737&sr=1-5&keywords=door+anchor+for+resistance+bands
Marcin Kaszubowski that's smart. Right on!. I will be oredering those soon. Or just cover the bands with any form of cloth. Never though of that.
Tubes can be used on the door and can do almost every exercise you can do with weights.
Flat Bands are more durable versatile and can do 99% of free weight exercise. That said tubes are fine if that is what you have but Flat looped are better
Appreciate the effort and dedication to detail, insight was plentiful!
I like them both. Tubes now come filled in so if they break there’s no snap back. I’ll use flat bands , elastic tubes and even some Thera bands if I’m rehabbing an injury. In a full workout free and machine weights are part of it some calisthenics and vigorous walking and running or stairs training. There’s a place for all of them. I’ve not seen a video where all of these are combined in a full workout. I’m giving you guys a chance. Do it or I will.
That certainly is an idea. I do have lots of videos that combine flat bands and free weights.
my answer is to use both !! i think tubular is better for some things, flat for other things. i am a small person, and therefore use lighter bands. one thing i like better about tubular is that you can go a further distance with them. so for example, if i do a low to high fly, or a high to low fly, i do that with just one tubular band. it starts (with some tension already) near my right knee and ends up above my left shoulder.
it is fairly easy to wrap the tubing around your hand. i went ahead and bought the bodylastics tube bands, cuz i think they are the best on the market. and also combine them with flat bands, cuz there are definitely some exercises that i like flat bands for. flat bands are better to step on, and wrap around.
Thanks for weighing in. Have you checked out the 101 band exercises I've put together for flat bands at resistancebandtraining.com/101exercises/?
@@TheBandGym not yet - LOL
@TravPitt i am using mine almost exclusively down at the beach. they discolored within a day or two. but they seem to work as well. i dont know how long they will last, but i think for awhile. and i will just replace them - price i pay for working out on the beach, in the fresh air. you can really use bands at a gym - it requires too much room. and not really too well in your house - unless you have a room big enough to spare, and use exclusively for workout - that isnt much of the population.
should have read - you can't really use bands at a gym
I use both tubular (bodylastics) & James Grage Orange bands. Both are great.
Awesome. Band quality can make a huge difference in the type of workout you get. resistancebandtraining.com/quantum-band-difference/
Thanks ! Your video helped me to make my desision. Cheers for that !
Glad I could help!
Ok so flat bands if you sell only flat bands….tube bands if you only sell tube bands. If you sell both, well you get the drift.
Hey you might be onto something. This page explains more about why our bands are top of the line: resistancebandtraining.com/quantum
I have had 3 flat bands snapped on me while working out not fun bodylastics stopped that problem
I’ve had both and notice a huge difference the flat bands are so much better and have more resistance than the tubular ones with handles
Agreed!
tube bands have more varieties of exercises and angles without having to install that anchor he has next to his door
just don't buy the cheap ones he is using..
not a fair comparison
I'm not sure I agree with that. Yes there are differences in quality of tubed bands but flat looped bands naturally provide more resistance and can exercise any part of the body. resistancebandtraining.com/quality
@@TheBandGym Well I don't agree with you because I started with the flat bands and they were killing my hands and so now I use the LIfeline tubes with the rotational handles for a lot of the exercises I was doing with the bands. The flat bands are easy to adjust on the fly by changing the resistance but the tubes you can do the same by changing the distance or adding another tube. I like both.
@@danbuckles2745 I think it's fundamentally known that with the flat bands, you have to wear gloves. I've seen some 8-10 buck nylon/fake sued work gloves at Lowes/HD that would work well. Both types have plusses and minuses. I think I like the aspect of flat that you can quickly change your gripping point whereas with tubes you're more likely to have to adjust the amount of slack you are standing on (eg. putting more slack between your feet so that the handles are in the right spot).
Thank you this is really helpful
Thank you!
Half of what was said against tube bands is not true.
I was going off my personal experience with the tube bands I had available. I'd love to know what types of bands you're using and which half isn't true from your perspective.
thank you very much. Its very helpful
Are there any bands made outside of China?
Ours are made in China I'm not familiar with any particular brands that aren't.
It really is an excellent review video 💥💥💥💥💥
Thanks
Great video thank you, how do I know I buy: a layer or molded?
By looking for the word "Layered" on the packaging or in the description on websites like the manufacturers, ebay and Amazon etc.
I have both.but i prefer the flat band for my wrkouts
Couldn't agree more.
thank you so match
So what brand of flat bands do you recommend
Quantum bands
Flat bands are superior than tubes!!! Quantum are great bands!
Agreed! Check out resistancebandtraining.com/quantum for more info.
Looking around can u do rpe's with bands
What are RPEs??
Teen Age Mutant Turtles always prefer tubular
I'm 6'2 , can't seem to find anything I can use. Any recommendations?
Our bands work great for that height. My son Carter is 6'2 and bands work great for him.

@@TheBandGym .. thanks for your quick response
@@spauldingclassics I’m 6’4” and I use Quantum bands 5-6 times per week with no problem.
@@TheBandGym I ordered these bands.. just what I was looking for. Thanks
I switched to the tubes because the hands hurt less with the handles.
Flat bands have handles
I bought reebok level 3 resistance tube one year ago...but then i felt less resistance or feel absolutely light as i was exercising with it for months...then i again bought extra heavy resistance tube it was cheap and just broken after two months of use....even i got hurt by it's door anchor and in overhead squat when it snapped and broken in half just right from it's handle...my elbow was hurt a little but later i decided not to buy more as after going through lots of searches on resistance bands flat bands.....so now i am thinking to buy two and more resistance bands together as many people says u should have medium and heavy resistance bands so u can switch bands when u do train different body parts....but in resistance tube we obviously train the whole body part with just one same resistance tube before switch to higher level
Try bodylastics, very durable tubular bands.
Yea I haven't had great experiences with tubes either. I always recommend flat looped bands. resistancebandtraining.com/quantum
you need a lav mic
Hi I am new to bands find them confusing. Can the tube band be doubled meaning attaching two yellow instead of mix colours. Will two light resistance bands of same colours create more resistance in training? Thanks
Glad you're trying it out. There is certainly a lot to learn. I've been at this for 20+ years and I'm still learning new things. I'd recommend checking out my 101 band exercises for anyone starting out. resistancebandtraining.com/special/101.php
which one have more resistance loop bands or tube bands??
It can depend on the exact bands but typically looped bands are able have more resistance.
LOL, the guy selling flat bands makes a video saying tube bands aren't great...
He hates tubes. This should be titled I”I Hate Tubes”
Just going through the pros and cons of each. I do see many more pros for flat bands.
Ok, I got it: tubular bands for girls and flat bands for men.
Close, I'd really suggest flat bands for women and girls as well.
Ok so flat bands if you sell only flat bands….tube bands if you only sell tube bands. If you sell both, well you get the drift.
Meh
Where can I buy that exact pipe?
:-)
Thank you, it was helpful
Awesome
