That was 50 years ago. Freaken amazing.
It was a "Frankenstein" experiment in music that created a monster hit that got released Feb.21 1973..
Edgar is a phenomenal talent and his brother Johnnie(RIP) was one of the greatest blues guitarists to ever strap one on!
Edgar is awesome! Check out "Tobacco Road" inwhich him and his brother Johnny play 💚🤙
Okay
Always fun watching someone see and hear this for the first time! This was one talented band. And for another side of Edgar (the one who played all the instruments), you need to hear him sing the blues when he was in his brother Johnny's band. Johnny is in the Blues Hall of Fame. The two of them doing Tobacco Road live at ruclips.net/video/af0rV6dli_o/видео.html is nothing short of amazing. (By the way, Edgar just won a Grammy in the Contemporary Blues Album category for a tribute album to his brother, who passed in 2014.)
One of the baddest jams in the land.
The Bass player is Dan Hartman he sang lead on the Edgar Winter song “Free Ride” .. He also had a Hit “I can dream about you” from the 1984 release of Streets of Fire Movie Soundtrack.. He also had another minor hit called “Instant Replay “ in the mid 80’s ..
This was on the flip side of a 45 that accidently got played by a DJ that had to make a quick bathroom call. It was just a jam session that had no vocals so they didn't think it would fly. It soared!
Thank you both! Your reactions are priceless. This song is a whole experience!
Our pleasure!
Yeah, Man!
Edgar played sax on Tina Turner's "Simply The Best" and other songs, and is currently touring with Ringo Starr. In his 70s and still going strong.
Wow, Didn’t know that.
Guys check out Edgar Winter's White Trash live Roadwork album version of Tobacco Road. It's AMAZING!
Edgar is the younger brother of the master bluesman Johnny Winter. Check him out. Jim
❤️ I really enjoy watching reactors see this for the first time✌️
Aww, thanks
When this song was new it remained my favorite for a long time. This is an excellent performance but the only thing I like better about the audio version is the difference of the sound effects control after he attacks the moog. It has more of a helicopter cadence to it is my best description. Good reaction.
Thanks, We got to check it out.
That song rocked!!! I remember when it came out. It was one of my favorites. I'm glad you played it because I haven't heard it in a long time
❤️❤️❤️
This is 50 years ago, 50!
Check out His brother Johnny Winter Original music video
Okay
Here's another new artist to check out, if interested "Mungo Jerry - In The Summertime (ORIGINAL 1970)"
Check out Tobacco Road, you'll hear him sing and his brother Johnny play guitar.
Got it Bella
Some background on this song for you: It evolved over several years, and never really had a name. Edgar just called it "The Double Drum" song, and then "The Synthesizer Song." They never played it the same way twice, but it was always long. Rick Derringer (the record producer and the guitarist in the video, though not on the album) suggested they make it the last track on the album "They Only Come Out at Night." But they had to cut it...a lot...to make it fit the 4 minutes or so of room they had on the album, which in those days meant physically cutting tape and splicing it back together. So, the drummer walked into the control room one day and saw strands of tape lying everywhere...on chairs, across the control panel, in people's hands, etc...and said "It looks like you're making Frankenstein in here." Edgar thought it was the perfect name for the song, and he was right.
Great back story. Love it!!
Listen to TOBACCO ROAD will also blow u away and FREE RIDE
This song is so unique.
Very much so.
The difference today is no one would bother to make a Frankenstein. They would just click a mouse and use software engineering to make the sounds.
True
Love this channel, try some music by Shocking Blue you will enjoy 😎 thanks 👍
Nooo it was more than a sound check. Back in the day instrumentals were popular without any vocals. If you know the story of Frankenstein’s monster it’s a creature created by various human body parts fused together. This song was fused together by various instruments of which some created to sound like instruments
I agree
In 1976 I tried to see EDGAR WINTER but LYNYRD SKYNYRD played first🤯😍🎸🔥and PLAYED SOOOO AWESOME that EDGAR WINTER didn't play and the CROWD went HOME which ended the concert!! I hoping to see EDGAR!!
Wow, that's crazy!
he got frustrated with his keyboard and started hitting it
How U like me now😎✌️
Oh sorry the song is the tobacco road Johnny Winter
Oh
Their other big hit was cancelled Free Ride.
Called not cancelled.autocorrect is stupid.
It is stupid lol. Ok cool free ride
@@brandonnshante no it's one he sings lead vocals.
But you guys think it is song
We thought it was going to be a song but I know Brandon said that it was instrumental to me.
So... Y'all are reacting to this video and have no comments on the fact that Edgar played the keyboards, sax AND drums? Paying attention at ALL? Not much of a "reaction" video, kids. C'mon!
