Was not impressed with his brothers concert in Charlotte NC. Johnny was on drugs and drunk. He fell down on the stage many times and had to be carried off. I never got a refund either,

There is a long history of stars performing terribly on stage, passing out, acting erratically, starting the show late, or not showing up at all because of substance abuse. Grace Slick quit Jefferson Airplane after a bad performance including a drunken on-stage rant. Country singer George Jones was so unreliable that he earned the unflattering nickname “No Show” Jones. Alice Cooper performed intoxicated in shows in the 1970s, and one of those performances, a drunken rendition of “I’m Eighteen,” is available to view on RUclips-and it’s embarrassingly bad. Recently, we had Elle King’s drunken tribute to Dolly Parton that was roundly roasted. Frankly, whenever fans spend money to see a performer that has no business being on stage that night, those fans are cheated. There’s no excuse.

I saw him live in a small club. the place sat less than 500 people. I was five feet from stage, beer in each hand, sitting on 2 bar stools.
That guy with the white hair is Edgar Winter. His brother Johnny Winter is a legendary guitarist. Johnny has white hair too. They are both albinos, which is why they have white hair. Very talented family.

The Winter brothers aren't just extremely talented musicians -- their Texans as well. Johnny is more a blues animal, while Edgar gravitated towards jazz/rock fusion -- like this.
Legend has it, of course, that Edgar also operated the camera for this video, was controlling the lighting through his keytar, and worked the concession stand during the show.
I don't know about that stuff, but I was there and do remember him taking our tickets and showing us to our seats. When he heard me complaining about a stiff neck on our way to our seats he gave me an awesome neck rub. Such talented fingers! Oh, and it wasn't a keytar. It was a keyboard.
@@BRUTUSIAC Thank you. Wikipedia: In the early 1970s, Edgar Winter often performed with keyboards slung around his neck, but they were not technically keytars because they had no "neck"; he actually used an ARP 2600 keyboard and a lightweight Univox electronic piano with shoulder straps added.
Edgar is one of the very best alto sax players in existence and an all around musical prodigy

Love Edgar Winter and his brother Johnny Winter. Johnny was a incredible Blues guitarist. You should look up his live performances. Both brilliant and both from your neck of the woods, Beaumont, Texas. Thanks ladies, you make my day.
Edgar and Johnny Winters were albino from Texas. Due to the heat and sensitivity to light ( legally blind) they stayed inside alot and learned to play multiple instruments. This is called Frankenstein because:: "Written by Edgar Winter, "Frankenstein" is one of the most famous instrumental rock songs. It got its title because of the arduous editing that went into the song; it became a monster when it was pieced together in the studio. Said Winter: "When we were editing it in the studio, back in those days when you edited something, you physically had to cut the tape and splice it back together, so it was all over the control room, draped over the backs of chairs and the couch. We were making fun of it, trying to figure out how to put it back together, saying 'Here's the main body; the leg bone's connected to the thigh bone...' Then Chuck Ruff, my drummer, says, 'Wow, man, it's like Frankenstein.' As soon as I heard that, I went, 'Wow, that's it!' The monster was born."

It's Edgar Winter, not Winters! This song is epic, and entirely instrumental. A true classic! The tall dude with the white hair is Edgar Winter who was born an albino, along with his brother Johnny Winter (also a musician). Edgar was the one who invented the mobile keyboard. An incredible talent who can play virtually every instrument in the band. Another excellent song by them is Free Ride! That one actually has vocals. Lol.

I believe that Edgar designed the keyboard and called it his keytar.
When he was asked "What instruments do you play?" He replied "YES"
I watched this live when it was first broadcast on the Old Grey Whistle Test back in the ‘70s - was blown away then and I still am.

Watched that show every week for years - Whispering Bob Harris. By the time the host of the show changed, I'd emigrated.

So much talent up there on that stage! Rick Derringer is the guitarist who went on to write rock and roll hoochie Koo. If I remember correctly I think he's only about 18 years old in this video.

Nope. Maybe in the McCoy's 'Hang On Sloopy'; he'd already done a turn as 2nd guitarist with Johnny Winter by this point, writing songs like 'Rock'n'Roll Hoochie-Koo', which was a minor hit for Johnny before Rick scored with his own version, also 'Still Alive and Well'.

Just to let all of you know... The bass player Dan Hartman was a prolific hit songwriter (“Free Ride,” “I Can Dream About You,” and James Brown’s “Living In America,” and “Instant Replay... All of the Edgar Winters group were incredibly gifted.

Recorded by the BBC in London in 1973. Excellent sound engineering. The programme was the Old Grey Whistle Test. The format was simple. Get the best musicians in the world, put them in a TV studio, no frills, no set. Get the best BBC recording engineers with the best equipment and just tell them to go.
Yeah, the keyboard around the neck that Edger is wearing, he was the first one to do that. There's been a lot of it done over the years, but he was the first one to start doing it. He said in an interview that he didn't just want to stand behind the keyboards and just play, so he figured out a way that he could go out front and play with the rest of the band. Edger is a multi-talented musician. He also plays guitar too; he just didn't play any in this song. He also is a vocalist. His brother Johnny is a very good player as well. Such great reactions from you three ladies. It's good to see that Lulu is back too. It was so funny when Edger put his keyboard on the floor and started making all those sounds, all 3 of you got big eyes all around the same time lol that look was priceless!

In the ultra extended version, they cut away and when they return Edgar is decorating a five tier wedding cake he baked. After another cutaway he finishes staining a Chippendale chair with arm rests and upholstered seat he carved from a single block of mahogany. After the last cutaway he is setting the timing on a '57 Chevy Bel Air which he rebuilt from a box of spare parts. Then he closes out the song by revving up the engine!
The album came out in 1972. It also contains the song FREE RIDE. The entire album is great. The white haired gentleman is Edgar Winter. His brother Johnny was a fantastic guitar player. Man I'm getting old. I was 14 then.

The music was real. So much passion, talent, creativity and variety. Britain and the U.S. squeezed every drop out of their music. I don't think any two countries ever collaborated better on any artistic endeavor. The American blues had a baby and they named it rock and roll. And Britain jumped all over it. Together they created the soundtrack of our lives.

Brothers Edgar and Johnny Winters both had bands, both great - on this one the little guy playing in with them on guitar is Rick Derringer - the box was an ARP synthesizer, competitor to the more well known Moog synthesizer
The first few seconds of the intro to that video, where you saw the outline of a man walking, was the intro to a late night rock show in England called "The Old Grey Whistle Test". It was on tv late on Monday nights and featured all of the popular artists/bands of the day. Sometimes they would even show concert footage. The host of the show was Bob Harris, better known as Whispering Bob Harris because he spoke with a very low voice.
I saw Edgar Winter a few years ago, touring with Ringo Starr's All Star Band. That was a great concert.

My older brother persuaded our Mum to let him watch, and I rode on his coat-tails. This was one-take 'live'! My brother ran a disco around the local area. He played this very loud at the end of each disco. 😂

Oh Ladies, that was great. This came out when I was in middle school. Been listening for almost 50 yrs. One of the Baddest Jams in the Land. Green Grass and High Tides by the Outlaws is another one.
They need to listen to the original Studio kind of this song.
This is literally the album that introduced me to rock and roll when I was about 12 years old.
Had some new neighbors move in next door. I heard my first Quality HiFi stereo and this is a song they played.
Fell in love with stereos and music and work in the industry to this day.
When I was in high school, our marching band played this song for our halftime show at a home game that was on Halloween.
The double drum song became a stitched together song and was then named.... Frankenstein. I got to see them in the 70's. Rick Derringer open . Them Edgar's older brother Johnny Winter . then Edgar Winter Then the lights came on and people started to leave. Including the other people in our group that came in a different car. But they didn't realized that when the lights went back out ... That there was more and all 3 bands came together for a few more songs. "They Only Come Out At Night." is the name of the album and it refers to their sensitivity to light.
Edgar Winter and his brother Johnny Winter (not seen here) are both albinos from Texas. Because the Texas sun is hard on albino skin, they never played outside like other children when growing up. Instead, they spent most of their time indoors practicing to become very talented musicians. Check out their song “Tobacco Road" to see both Winter brothers play together. Highly recommended.
It was Edgar who first invented the keyboard body strap to carry his keyboard like a guitar so he could have it with him while moving around to other instruments as well. He called it his "Keytar".
Another musician of note here is the lead guitar player Rick Derringer. Well worth checking out his solo song version of "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" (which Derringer wrote). Highly recommended.

Dan Hartman is the bass player; he had a solo hit in the 80's with the song " I can dream about you. " That reached #6 on billboard's hot 100 and was in the movie Streets of Fire that starred Michael Pare, Diane Lane, and Willem Dafoe.

Ladies you hit a true winner! When we went to see Edgar live he and the band did this song for 22 minutes. It was total kickass!
Edgar ( the multi-instrumentalist ) and the late Johnny ( the guitar slinger.....R.I.P. ) Winter were albino bros. from southeast Texas. Edgar invented several electronic instruments and Johnny was, for my $$$$, the best blues guitarist of my lifetime.
My brother in law grew up in Beaumont Tx and went to high school with Edgar’s brother Johnny, who was a guitarist and had hits in his own hits.

Edgar Winter Group without the "s". You didn't hear it here but Edgar also sings very well. There is a much shorter studio version of Frankenstein that was played on the radio a million times or so back in the day. Extremely popular song and way ahead of its time. I believe (at the time) it was the only instrumental song to hit #1.
The story is the band was experimenting with a lot of different snippets of 'tunes' to find out what they could do with the keyboard and how it would mesh with all the other instruments in the band. They had no 'song' in mind, but when their producer heard it in one of their practice sessions he told them he wanted 'it' on an album. One of the band members said something about it being that 'Frankenstein thing' (something made from a lot different parts stitched together to make one thing) and this instrumental classic was 'born'.
Edgar has a brother Johnny who plays guitar. They were born with albinism and are from Texas. Both are insanely good musicians. I was lucky enough to see Edgar perform "Frankenstein" live a long time ago. Great reaction.

The bass player, Dan Hartman, and the drummer Chuck Ruff are. deceased now and dan Hartman had several hits songs and was a good producer. I got the meet Rick Derringer back in the 80s when I was getting endorsements for a guitar company. What a great guy he is and he’s also a legend I’m glad that three of you got to see this videothey were miles ahead of what was going on at the time. Take care.

Edgar Winters did more to make electronic music come to the mainstream than anyone. There is some cooky Electonic music out there but when he put this together, it was magic.

I was very young when this came out, maybe 10 or so, and my dad had this record. I didn't know what this was, but I liked it. Man, the music we got exposed to bad then, awesome.

I had a friend boast to me about being present at one of Edgar's sound checks. He says they let him sing Frankenstein. I asked him to recite the lyrics, and he said it's been so long he can't remember them. I let that stew a bit before telling him it's an instrumental song.

This song originated from a jam session the group had. They decided to try and make something from the recording (on tape in those days). They literally cut the tape in to bits, stringing the tape across backs chairs in the studio. After rearranging the bits and taping them all together, one of the band members (I forget who) said, “It looks like Frankenstein.” Thus the title.
They had another big hit then that Donna might remember, it was called Free Ride. Also the guitarist in white, Rick Derringer had a huge hit called Rock And Roll Hootchy Koo. Edgar (white hair) and his brother Johnny were albinos and playing outside in Texas hurt their eyes and skin so they stayed inside and mastered music instead. Johnny became a top blues guitarist and Edgar mastered everything else! Great choice!

As others have stated Edger (and his brother, Johnny) suffered with albinism, hence their white skin and hair. Albinism cause sensitivity to sunlight and often vision issues.

My kids and I got to see Edgar Winter open up for Alice Cooper in 2017 and he and his band killed it! Edgar still has an amazingly good and strong voice and still plays practically every instrument well. Check out Tobacco Road. For a taste of his brother, Johnny Winter, check out Still Alive & Well.
That was Edgar. He and his brother Johnny are albino and had to stay indoors and that fed their expertise. Johnny sings and plays organ on "Tobacco Road" and Edgar plays guitar in that video. You'll be amazed, even after seeing this.

It was great to see 3 generations love that song! Edgar has always said Frankenstein is a visual song. The album version went to #1 and is a great listen, but you can see why witnessing it live is worth it! OK, you've seen other commenters request Tobacco Road live (with brother Johnny; Edgar's vocals will blow you away) and Free Ride. Both are great. But I'd like to see the 3 of you go a bit "off the grid" with some songs from his earlier group, White Trash. Jive Jive Jive (live; ruclips.net/video/85hTmbSjyLM/видео.html) is one song NOBODY has reacted to. It has Jerry LaCroix on lead vocals and is flat out fun; you will not be able to stop dancing in your chairs. A few people have reacted to Give It Everything You've Got (ruclips.net/video/UsBEEgX81DI/видео.html), which has Jerry and Edgar sharing the vocals. Both of those songs have superb sax and horns as well as vocals. Then there is Dying to Live (ruclips.net/video/opGVGKw_lDU/видео.html) with just Edgar, his piano, and some strings. It's the most beautiful song you've never heard, as the few people who have reacted to it have all said. Again, really enjoyed watching the 3 of you all enjoy Edgar and his mates. I remember watching this performance as a kid when I was around 9 years old on TV when it was originally televised. About the same age I started playing piano 🎹 . Many musicians use that type of keyboard out there. He was definitely one of the first few in mainstream to use it. The keyboard player for Liliac uses it a lot also . As a keyboard player myself I have 3 keyboards and an old Yamaha piano my mom gave me many years ago but don’t have one of these , however I may have to get one. 😊

The Guitar player is Rick Derringer, who had a hit of his own a few years later called "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo". Saw Edgar a couple of times and, of course, he played this little ditty both times. His biggest hit. It's called "Frankenstein" because they cobbled it together from several different musical ideas.
