This 'Monkees' episode also brought back the memory of when I was; listening and watching the past 'Simpsons' episode, this is where Dr. Julius Hibberd tells the bartender Morris Sizlack not to use violence.
This was when the grocery store clerk name Edmond was telling Morris Sizlack; "sir I don't like your attitude," in the very way how cocky Morris Sizlack sounds.
i have to admit, i never liked that stupid hat. (btw, its called a "stocking cap." these used to be common, in the winter!) and that silly ball on top made him look even more ridiculous. whoever came up with the idea of making mike wear that stupid thing was an idiot. they should've done an episode where they all wear the hat except mike. and then the following episode would be where they kill the hat and bury it for good. now that's comedy!
"Aren't you that wool hat guy?"😂😂😂💚 I went through a navy blue wool hat phase,at 12-13 years old back in 1975-76!! Somebody said "who are you, Mike Nesmith?"😂😂😂 Love you Mike🤗💚☮️
Ha, this was great. I never realized that in the Christmas episode, Davy is wearing Mike's hat to top off his elf costume, LOL! That wool hat got around!
Ahhhhh....such a sweet tribute to Mike n his "knitted cap" a la Peter! Lol!!! At the very end of da video, he reminded me of Frank Zappa the way he looked! Sweet, Dude!!! 🐒🌟😊😂👍💕 !!! You GO, Kev! 🌟
One of my earliest memories of the show was Mike and his hat! When I saw the screen test he made in '65, I thought it was a hoot that it was always his thing and TPTB chose to keep it as part of his character! Mike Nesmith has said that he actually had several knitted hats during the run of the show which were provided by wardrobe man, Gene Ashman. The one he wore for the screen test however, was given to him by his grandmother, who knitted it for him.
he says that in the audition interview, the thing about his grandma, doesn't he? i have to admit, i never liked that stupid hat. @@cjmacq-vg8um keep in mind that he producers originally planned on naming Mike, "Wool Hat" (aka, "W.H. Wool Hat") before Mike put his foot down on that idea. Mike used the hat to keep the hair out of his eyes when riding his motorcycle (in an era before helmets were mandatory). It's also important to note that TPTB made quite a bit of money from selling replicas of that hat (amongst other Monkee teen fashions that were sold at JC Penny's). Laugh now, but it wasn't useless.
You should have found a way to work in the bit from the '97 "reunion" special. Davy: "Are you going to wear the hat?" Mike: "The wool hat? Davy, I haven't seen that hat in 25 years."
(Baby Boomer Here) I attended a Monkees concert 2 years ago which included Mike. I sat next to a 23 year old who said she wished she was a teen in the 60's. Their appeal is timeless!
Rest in peace. Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith. In December I emailed Micky Dolenz and told him that I really enjoyed getting to see him and Mike Nesmith at the Texas Trust CU theater in October.
I was thinking the same thing while watching this.🤔 When I was a little girl I had a similar wool hat that was cream colored with a little green & blue diamonds on it. I didn’t like it very much. But when I saw that Mike wore a wool hat and he was so cool I actually loved that hat after that. 😃🧶
I seem to recall an interview in which Mike said the hat he wore most vanished when the show ended, but was presented with it by a fan after a concert not too long ago.
thank,s for sharing love the monkees then ,now and forever watch them ever sat 9 till11 RIP davy they will all be back to togther one day god is great all the time
He wore the original wool hat to the screen test (to keep his head covered while riding his motorcycle there), and never took it off. Rafelson and Schneider liked it so much that they made it his gimmick
Nez hated the nickname ”wool hat” so much one time in a show he wore his real wool hat and he took it off and threw it to the crowd and the ”lucky girl” could get it and it’s a shame cause the hat is like an icon for him everytime a fan see a wool hat they say Mike or Nez
Tamera, Mike wore the hat while riding his motorcycle to keep his hair out of his eyes. He kept it on for his auditions and screen test for the show and it got worked into the show as a trademark for his character. In fact his character was initially going to be called "Wool Hat," though Mike wasn't crazy about that idea. It was actually fortunate that he wore it when trying out for thd Monkees. The hat stood out to the producers and they told casting to keep bringing back "the guy with the wool hat."
What freedom and simplicity we ha back then, pfft, who am I kidding? People were still dying in Africa. And even Monkees get old and die. My life means nothing.

You're right! His actual hat was out being fixed, and all of these hats were just cheap loaners. :) (oddly enough, I'm referencing an episode that he doesn't even wear his hat in)
The reason why Morris Sizlack has a snotty attitude is that; it all depends on the bar customers you're dealing with, certain liquor bar customers can and will be hard to trust.
I think the cutest thing is when he’s giving his hat poof a little haircut 😂🥰🥰🥰
😅😅😅😅 I love that sight gag. I never tire of it. ❤
I meant; this is when one of the museum Security guards, told Peter Tork to erase the green wool hat off the portrait.

Ha, this was great. I never realized that in the Christmas episode, Davy is wearing Mike's hat to top off his elf costume, LOL! That wool hat got around!
RIP Michael Nesmith. The wool hat lives on!
Yes
I was always amused how well it stayed on his head cause it looks so precariously set there 😁

Perfect💞 This is adorable!🥰🥰
His hat is a body part of Mike…
Rest in peace🙏
Awesome! I have to give you credit for taking the time and effort to put this together
+Sesame Maniac Thanks!! I like paying attention to details, so I just did it while I was watching the show
I'm the one who shared it onto the Monkees page, but I see you found that as well
+Sesame Maniac That was you?? Thanks! It was a bit of a pleasant surprise to see that pop up on my newsfeed.
Yeah, two of my biggest loves are Sesame Street and the Monkees, LOL... but on Facebook I'm obviously using my real name
RIP Mike N. the father of the music video. You will be missed.
I always thought he had it "Liquid Paper"-glued to his head!! He was without it as often as Linus was without his blanket!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love Mike
Mike as Frank Zappa!!!! LMFAO Stuff like this is why at 57 in 2017 I'm still a big fan!
Tim Danby, it was Frank Zappa.
pnutty51 Blue Magnolia: He meant, Frank Zappa was playing Mike and Mike was playing Frank Zappa. They were sitting next to each other.
That was my absolute favorite scene from the episode The Monkees Blow Their Minds! Especially when Nez and Zappa was playing the car!
If I would have met someone wearing a wool hat back in the day they would have had my heart - I loved it!
Always loved the wool hat! RIP Michael 🙏
You the Woolhat was just as much a character on the show as the boys, just like the red cowboy boots were on HIMYM.

Wonderful tribute to the 5th Monkee.
RIP Michael. You'll always be Mr. W.H. Wool Hat to me.
I loved the wool hat! So sad that they cut it in the second season. The hat was as much a character as the actors it feels like.
RIP Mike Nesmith. The wool hat never dies
The wool hat suits Mike the best! It's like me wearing my favorite hat. It doesn't look right on my sister but it looks right on me.
R.I.P MIKE DAVY AND PETER
Rest in Peace, Mike!
R.I.P. Wool Hat 🎸🙏
I’m thinking of wearing a wool hat in memory of Mike. Rest in peace.
That's a great idea!
Excelentísimo excelentísimo excelentísimo excelentísimo excelentísimo excelentísimo ❤❤❤❤ bendiciones 🙏🙏🙏🙏
All started to hold his hair back while riding his motorcycle. "Not a helmet guy."
The best comedy show ever!🦍🦍🦍🦍
What am I doing hangin' round?
A question I've been asking myself all of my life
Mike's wool hat should be in the Smithsonian 😉
My cousin and I spent three years mocking ol wool hat. 1966-1969
Dec. 30, 2021 Happy Birthday Mike, we miss you!!! 😢❤️
How about some More MONKEES SONGS ? 😊
I hope that hat is in a museum he even wore it auditions for the band TV show
RIP Michael Nesmith 🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊
He said he wore it because it kept his hair in place when he ride his motorcycle 🏍
RIP Mike.
I love his wool hat
He was ahead of his time
Grew up with da Monkees,. 63 69 fun

Mike’s hat is great
I just now realised Mike was wearing the watch cap during his screen test. I always thought growing up that they gave it to him to wear as a "thing."

This sounds like a different version of "What Am I Doing Hanging Round" - love to know where this version is from
I noticed that, too.
Me too...no harmonies
It's just an early version of the song before they really had it in its complete form.
I loved that hat! It’s the style now! I wonder if he still has the one from his grandma?
I ordered one from e-bay, got it right here on my head as I'm typing lol
The story I've heard is rhat Mike tossed his original green hat into the crowd of fans at a Monkees concert in 1967.

I’m curious, why do people call it a ‘wool hat’? I only know it by the name beanie!

holy crap frank zappa was on the monkees!?
Yes. And he also appeared in the Monkees movie Head.
Frank was a friend of Mike's and that moment was hilarious existential fun.
Plus, he and Micky were neighbors in Laurel Canyon.
Sometimes in this hilarious show, Mike wore a green hat and other times he wore a blue one.
Funniest part is he hated that hat.
Not originally. He grew to hate it as a gimmick
