Season 1 Episode 4 "Maternity"
After overhearing a conversation about a sick baby, House investigates the maternity ward and predicts an epidemic. After realizing the severity of the disease, Cuddy quarantines the maternity ward. In an effort to discover the source of the epidemic, House begins treating the children. However, when the kidneys of two of the children shut down, House is forced to test which drug caused the failure, resulting in one of the babies dying. Following an autopsy, the team discovers the presence of echovirus 11, CMV, and parvovirus B19 antibodies. They test the mothers and decide the cause of the epidemic is the Echovirus. Using an experimental anti-virus, they successfully cure the remaining babies.

One summer as a student I worked as a janitor (cleaning the facilities). My first week I had to shadow a guy to take over his duties when he left on vacation. I noticed him using the same cloth for cleaning all toilets and surfaces during his route (we cleaned toilets, sinks, doorknobs etc). I told him as soon as I picked up on it. He said he didn’t care because it was quicker. I told the boss later that day. Can you guess which one of us was out of a job? It’s dangerous letting people like him and the boss work in these places. People die from their negligence. Edit: This was at a hospital and his route was on several different floors at a big hospital.
I work as a housekeeper at a retirement facility and I can say this is so true. That's one of the first things I tell new people when training. The toilet is the absolute last thing that you touch and you never use the same rag for multiple rooms.

Two people need to get fired. 1. That old lady for coughing into her hands. As a hospital staff she should know better. 2. Whoever thought it was a good idea to keep and pass stuffed toys around in a hospital. It’s a freaking sink for all kinds of diseases.
I just wanted to tell you that they pass those stuffed animals alot during the holidays especially to new moms.
I was hospitalized around Valentins week and while I was there, these ladies walked around door to door passing out stuffed animals, color books, mini note books, ect. And I honestly thought that that was strange. (Btw I was around 15 when I was at children's hospital) Since we dont know those nurses, how are kids supposed to be okay with touching things that hundreds of kids probably touched or if those nurses didnt clean their hands. So, I just grabbed a stuffed animals, left it in a bag and never saw it ever since.
@@ss...7208 Wow! I actually (Yeah, people think I'm obsessive) I have nieces, when I buy them anything "STuffed" even at a store I ALWAYS wash it first before giving it to them. I've had people tell me it's overkill. Kids are grabbing things, put in their mouths, etc. No I'm not over-reacting
@@John231984 no it's better to be safe than just an overkill. I rather have the stuffed toy or things cleaned before giving them away

I don't think they actually gave them to us though lmao. My brother was on life support, so potentially risking his under developed system was too much of a risk.
I do think the thing that would most likely spread the most germs now a days is the handmade crochet baby diaper covers and hats. We have a ton of volunteers who make those for infants (rather then just the newborn cap all babies get), but I would imagine they'd be sterilized often.
A 3rd person needs to get fired: The male student doctor with the floppy tie. Cuddy warned him to either use a tie clip or take it off but he wouldn't listen. The next time Cuddy met him, she cuts his tie off but she should have fired him instead. Loose clothing items like ties and hats can carry all sorts of microbes since they aren't washed daily.

What I'm wondering is that if there were 4 other babies with supposedly the same issue, why could they only test that one baby? If they'd draw blood from all 5 babies they could test for a total of 30 viruses instead of just 6 🤔
It's more likely they could only take 1-2 vials large enough for a test from each baby. Consider when I get blood drawn, it's often 1-2 vials (20-40ml), to me an adult, that's nothing (we have 5000ml rougly). To a newborn that's all the blood in an entire limb if not more, newborns have roughly 200ml of blood in total. Add in these babies are sick and may be lacking fluids that numbers already going to be down possibly quite significantly.
They would also need to be redundant in testing, having enough left from each baby when they finally had an answer to make sure that they all have the exact same condition. Remember they'd all been isolated from each other, and while its unlikely they would have different viruses, it's a possibility especially since many of the viruses they listed are fairly common. You'd be hard pressed to find a hospital were atleast 1 or 2 of them (if not more) aren't actively making the rounds in the staff/patients without anyone even knowing, most people can be asymptomatic.
