That's because when a first season is made, it often doesn't have a network to air on yet. It is created, then shopped around to find someone that wants it. If a show is a hit, then the airing network will throw more money at it since they know it's a sure thing. This happens less these days with Netflix, Amazon, etc. around, but I bet it still happens with the original 4 OTA networks.
I don't know about you, but I feel that Robert Sean Leonard has not received the credit that he so rightfully deserves, since House. He's a phenomenal actor and I personally believe that he's been cheated on multiple times by an industry that no longer values hard work nor true comedic talent. As a long-time fan of his work, I'm proud of how far he's come from his Dead Poets Society/ Age of Innocence/ Much Ado About Nothing, days, yet am and still remain to be quite outraged by the matter. He'd make a wonderful leading man in a crime anthology series. He's incredibly intelligent and well-suited for any part, in my opinion. Not only that, but he is also very charismatic and possesses the rare ability to entertain the viewer in any given situation. I don't know, but there's just something so special and authentic about his work ethic and performance, as though he is bringing us out of the chaos, beneath the rubble, into the light, over and over again, and yet we're left wanting more. Now that I'm growing older, I appreciate his work more than ever before. He IS an artist.

It could be that it added a different atmosphere to their shows... Or I'm over thinking this and they were just tight with the budget lol
One of the few instances where an epiphany doesn't solve everything instantly, but it's enjoyable as well to see House doing work and research to reinforce his new theory.
That's the thing I like about earlier seasons. They were more of a detective stories, rather than soap operas. And House wasn't just a magician who knows everything he needs to know, but gets it at the last possible moment all the time, while figuring out ways to please Cuddy's mother. He's, no doubt, a genius, but here you can see that he also does research, he thinks, he actually works on case. The show takes its time, humor is subtle and medical case takes over romance or relationships. It's soo good.
House could empathize with Jodie's honesty, because what she said resonated with him deeply. She was quite shy, mild mannered because I suppose that she must have been a free spirited youth, but her pain and financial instability took a toll on her and she forcefully had to submit to it. Perhaps she was not allowed to follow her true vocation in life... Or at least a tragedy or a divorce could have led to that specific impediment. "I don't like being told what to do." Well, that could have many connotations. One of my absolute favorite Doctor-Patient interactions on the show. Excellent performance from Hugh Laurie. It left much to collective interpretation and that's a good thing, as both individuals do not like to be told what to do!
He loves rebels. The lady saying that she hates being told what to do is something House can relate to since he was in the exact same situation in that moment.
It is so crazy how much younger Wilson(and by extension everybody) looks at the beginning of the series compared to the end, and to boot he was 35 when the show started.
He was being sarcastic. Remember, the target audience for this show were for people who played video games in the 70s and early 80s where almost everything was nothing but level -X.

I loved how in the beginning they would show shots of House staying overtime at the hospital studying, working, trying to solve the case. It was a good way to express how he maintained himself ahead over so many years; a mixture of extreme talent and intense hard work.
Early House was the best House. They started to make him more and more crazy to stretch the show out as time went on. And those episodes can be really great-- but the first ones, when he was a lot less of a cartoon were the best.
