I built a seal sprayer unit for a friend a few years back and it only cost around a grand, so if you have any DIY skills, you can build your own from RUclips videos. It's just a tank, a trash pump, 2" return, 3/4" spray hose and not much more.
Hi Michael,
😊👍 Excellent! Nice work! I appreciate you checking out the video and commenting! Take care!🍺🇺🇸🚜
U r right!! You can d.i.y put together a sealcoating rig yourself and buy everything from a nearby Tractor 🚜 Supply- Northern Tool - Agri Supply or Harbor Freight
That was fascinating to watch! Everything has gone up so much. At least we have more windmills.
Hi buddy! Very true! Windmills! Yes! Electric cars and solar panels too!😂👍🚜🍺🇺🇸
Looks great. Amazing how the cost of everything has skyrocketed in a short period of time.
Hi BCL. I appreciate it. Very true! All we can do is keep our head down and keep up the good fight!💪👊 Thanks for stopping by buddy! Take care!🚜🇺🇸🍺
Looks great!
😊👍 Hi Kat! Thanks for checking it out!🍺🇺🇸🚜
Wow... from my experience the sealing material looks very watered down. I hope it lasts at least two years. I have a 6200 sq ft driveway and just decided to do it myself by buying the professional grade product in bulk. I got a $2850 and a $1800 quote from two different providers. The first one used a very good product called Armor Top #375 and the other quote used a lower grade product, which was from a local asphalt plant and the guy said he added 15% water to that lower grade product along with some sand. I have learned that all providers add some water and sometimes so sand so it is hard to compare apples to apples. I also noticed from the video that they over sprayed quite a bit onto the soil beyond the asphalt edge leaving a situation that I would not be happy with. They did seem to know how to do the work however. Please post a followup video in a year and then two years from this first video. Thanks for sharing.
👍😊Hi Idsirvin!
Wow! Very interesting information. I don’t think I have had any other video that has had a stronger reaction than this one. For some reason people have very passionate reactions to what and how it was done and how much I paid. I never meant for it to be such a controversial video. Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your experience!🇺🇸🚜 🍺
@@tractorrookie . If. 7th
Yea it does look thin
Thanks for weighing in!
absolutely - way too watered down.
Where I live I've never seen it done but I have heard Where people have concrete poured then later had it sealed like asphalt. Not sure if it was for salt protection or what. Great job.
👍🚜 Hi Kevin, I hear you! I don’t know much about it, but hopefully our investment will last longer. Thanks for stopping by!!!🚜🍺🇺🇸
Doubled in a year!?! That's crazy. I'll never be able to afford it. :) Although -we like our gravel driveway as an early detection system also. Our Great Dane can hear cars coming in on the gravel and she alerts us to visitors even before they exit their vehicle. :)
😊👍 Hey Buddy!
Yes, crazy! A lot of things have gone up. We have cameras for the alerts, but the dogs don’t see them😂 I appreciate you checking out the video. Take care!🍺🇺🇸🚜
Amazing what voting can do, things have doubled in price. As they say Voting has consequences. Best video my friend.
😊🇺🇸 Hi Bill! Roger that! Yep! I’m just trying to keep the economy alive😂 Thanks for stopping by!🚜🍺💙👊
seal coating honestly is a great way to spruce up your driveway. They do highways in Canada with it and it eats winter conditions very well.
👊👍 Hey Old Guy!!! I think we have something in common!!😂🤠 I like the way it looks right now!!😊 I appreciate you checking out the video! 🚜🍺
I agree that it does look great. As to value, only time will tell. They certainly appeared to know their job. As to concrete, it depends. I live on what is called “water clay” soil and we have a 42” frost line. After 88 yards were put down 36 years ago, it looks as if a Russian artillery brigade spent the weekend using my drive and pads as their impact area! Spendy repair. Who knew I would live so long?
👍😊 Hi Stanley, I appreciate you checking out the video. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to asphalt. I have poured concrete, but not in large quantities. At the point we were at with this investment. I decided to trust the professionals. Taking out concrete is no fun for sure. Keep on living the dream! Take care!!🍺🚜🇺🇸
Most asphalt redi-mix plants rent the tank sprayers and then you buy a bulk amount of sealer from them. Assuming that you seal every 5-7 years perhaps it might work out. Here they rent them for 1 1/2 days per trailer so assuming that the asphalt guys did yours for 4 hours X 2 guys = 8 hours then you should be able to complete the same area in less than 16 hours. What part of Oregon are you in?
Hi Frank,
We’re in the northwest. North of Portland. Thanks for checking out the video!😎🇺🇸🚜 in
That's $500 of material here in Michigan, he must be planning to retire at years end.
👍😊 Right?! Don’t I look like I got money to burn? 😌😆 Good thing I was able to sell my diesel truck. Thanks for checking out the video! Take care!🚜🇺🇸🍺
@@tractorrookie Wow, I was reading through some of the comments, and there are quite a few armchair quarterbacks. Don’t listen to some of them. I agree that the stuff from Home Depot isn’t as good of a quality as the professional stuff. The only thing I did not like was that it looks like he sprayed sealcoat all over your rocks and grass. The work was a little sloppy, in my opinion. They should have brushed edges going ALL THE WAY down, not just at the top. This should have been at least a 4hr job(in my opinion), if they brushed edges all the way down, but it seems like they rushed it.
I have been in the business for over 14 years. I’m not going to comment on the workmanship or pricing of this company. As long as your happy with the work done that’s all that matters cheers 🍻 😊
😅Hi guymiller!
Taking the high road! That’s nice to see! Most folks seem like they want to bash everyone else or make you feel like a sucker cuz you paid too much. I appreciate you! Thanks!🍺🚜🇺🇸
35+ years in the business for me and they did a great job.
For an 11,000 square foot driveway, you would have wanted to use either Black Jack or latex -ite airport grade sealer, those are some of the better varieties you can buy in terms of finish and longevity, it would be 28 5 gallon bucks to cover that span, usually the coverage is pretty consistent with the label like 350-400 square feet per 5 gallon bucket, it would be $670 after tax in materials from home depot, or if you wanted to be generous and account for 30% more material it would be $870, at home depot or lowes they give you a discount if you buy so many but they will basically run $22-$24 a pale, but you could easily fit 15-20 in a truck bed so no need for a pallet. Before they applied the sealcoat though they should have power washed the driveway with a soap or degreaser for better adhesion of the sealcoat, Sealcoating a driveway without thoroughly cleaning it first is like just painting over a dirty wall on your house, it makes no sense, the sealant they used DEFINITELY seemed water based not oil based, for longevity it would have been far better if they used an oil based sealant, oil based sealants work better, the last longer, they penetrate the surface, forming a flexible bond that decreases the likelihood of contraction and expansion of the asphalt throughout the winter months, thus minimizing the probability of cracking. Also seemed like a VERY thin coat they applied over the driveway. In summary: $5400 down the drain, but at a certain point who's counting Lol? For these guys, 2 hours of work at $2700 an hour, I couldn't think of a faster way to make money other than the possible exception of robbing a bank
Hi John, you sound very knowledgeable about seal coating driveways. Thanks for taking the time to comment. 🍺🚜🇺🇸
Over the counter products? No thanks, have you seen the reviews on those crappy Home Depot sealers? They suck.
Absolutely the worst thing to do is put the water based sealer on this practically new pavement. Watch for those hairline surface cracks in a year or less. Should have used a penetrating rejuvenating oil based sealer. Would have looked better, lasted longer and been beneficial for the asphalt to reverse the life cycle. Now you have to wait until all this wears off before you can use a oil based sealer next time
You Sir have said what I’m thinking! With $5400 you could probably buy a tool that you can use for years to spray and clean the driveway!
You have no idea what you’re talking about. Absolutely non.
It’s something about how he just nonchalantly sprayed the grass/rocks. Brother
😊Hi it’s a Grimm,
Honestly, we are out in the country and we paved over gravel and asphalt grinds. Although it didn’t look good at the time, you can’t even tell now. Thanks for checking out the video.🇺🇸🚜🍺
The price you paid for seal coat is cheaper than here on the west coast. It’s double the price for the sqft seal coated. And to do it yourself ain’t worth the headache.
Thanks Allen! I think you are the first encouraging comment I have received on this video 😅 We’re actually on the west coast also. Thanks for checking out the video!🚜🇺🇸💪👊
Yeah I’m not inclined to squeegee 11k square feet of anything. Looks like money well spent. 👍
😊💪 Hi John! Thanks buddy! Yes! I figured I would be on my own if I went that route!😂 Thanks for checking out the video!! Stay cool!😎💙🇺🇸🍺
That would be A LOT of lifting. Did you do the math for how much product you would need to do all that compared to how much it cost for them to do it?
Its all good but some protection on grass and fencing would have been neater
😊👍 Hi Nitrofish! I actually told them not to worry about the grass. Less grass? No problem 😂😎 The fence faired fine. Hey! I appreciate you checking out the video! Thanks- take care!🇺🇸🚜🍺
Yeah there was a few things that he could have done a lot better on outher than that he did a good job. Though things that he could have done better on are the reason why I started my own company and got away from working for other people because I'm tired of seeing people do c*** work and shortcuts Like seen in this video.
Was this in Oregon or Washington? I don’t do any paving no more but I sealed a few of this guys driveways in Washington. He seems to do quite a bit of paving no complaints here if he keeps paving them I’ll seal ‘em lol.
😊 Hi Worth! We’re in Oregon! Yes! They do a lot of paving in this neck of the woods. Claims to be number 1 locally. Thanks for checking out the video!!🇺🇸🍺🚜
A poacher
@@pmg2120who you calling a poacher? and if ur talking about me you better have proof.
No, not referring to you. This video has created more controversy than any other video I’ve done. Life’s too short to get too jacked up about all the drama. Cheers!
@@tractorrookie I was commenting to @pmg2120 not you buddy.
Just out of curiosity how is the sealer holding up..
😊Hi Chris,
Good so far, no complaints. I was pretty surprised how much dialogue this video got. The company I used works in both Washington and Oregon. They also do work for the railroad.🤷🏼♂️ I am confident that if I do have any issues, they will respond appropriately! Thanks for checking out the video!🇺🇸🚜🍺
He got it all over your gravel rock. Wouldn't have been happy about that at all.
😊👍Hi Tundra! Right?! We actually discussed the application before hand. I was actually fine with the grass and gravel getting sprayed. I had hauled so much gravel and asphalt rock over the last couple years, it does not bug me at all. I appreciate you checking out the video!!🚜🇺🇸🍺
Should have made them brush the whole thing for 5 gs man
Thanks for checking out the video 😎🚜🍺🇺🇸
Must be Roseburg Oregon
Nope! Northwest, north of Portland. Thanks for watching.🚜🇺🇸👊
Thanks Mike.
That stuff looked a little thin to Me.. Was it HOT applied ?
At My old place I had an old Airless Paint Sprayer that I dilled out the tip a bit bigger. I used it to spray roof sealer on our old Camper at out Seasonal site. then was going to use it to seal the Driveway then the Fire happened. I only needed 25 Gallons.
My new Driveway is 175" to the front on My Shed .
Interesting way they cut the edges. The Guys I see doing that here use a 24" x 8' Board with a handle and while a Guy sprays, the other just walks along with the Board.
Mike M.
Hi Mike! 😊 Not a hot application. I can’t speak to proper thickness. Bottom line is that we were committed to protecting the investment and I trust this company to do it right. End of the day, I know where to find them if it goes south. Sounds like your plan worked well. Home Depot 5 gallon buckets claim to cover 350 square feet. If it is anything like paint, you always need more. Thanks for stopping by! Take care!!🍺🇺🇸🚜
should have 2 coats applied. is usually standard,
👍 I think the second coat would have ran off. Water just runs right off. Looking good so far.👊💪
@@tractorrookie i managed a major sealer mfg. we always recommend 2 coats
Was it hot? Should be 2 coats! Hahaha
I’ll never understand why people who have no idea what they’re talking about embarrass themselves by commenting.
How long until you could drive on your driveway after that sealant?
😊👍 Hi Kurt! We were walking on it after a couple hours. The contractor told us to wait till the evening to drive on it. We decided to just wait till the next day. We had no pressing reason to drive on it. Thanks for checking out the video!🍺🚜🇺🇸
First of all $5400 is a rip off way to munch money secondly the sealer is watered down it dont last long
Hi @larrycannon9593
Thanks much for checking out the video and commenting
I don't think its crazy to DIY but you have soo many square feet that having the professionals spay it was the only realistic plan unless you have a month to spare.
😅 Hey Thomas,
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I appreciate you taking the time!🚜🇺🇸
I find it hilarious the comments from ppl that think they know about sealcoating
Hey Coach,
Yes! There are many opinions on the subject! Some very strong ones too. 😅 Thanks for checking out the video!🚜🇺🇸
You should have done concrete long time investment less maintenance
😊👍 Hi Julio, Concrete would be awesome. The cost of that in my neighborhood would not have been possible for me. Thanks for checking out the video!🍺🚜🇺🇸
Check these two different sealers out ruclips.net/video/eMT2eC_kVTU/видео.html
Hi DMP, thanks! I appreciate you checking out the video!🍺🇺🇸🚜
No way you can cover 11 thousand sqft with 140 gallon Especially the first time being done Realistically it would take about 280 to 300 gallon
Hi Kiddynamite,
Thanks for checking out the video and commenting. Merry Christmas 🚜🇺🇸👍
Hi I fell upon your video I have to be completely honest not trying to step on anybody's toes but the material they use was completely water down if you start seeing white spots way too much water in the mix to be honest you should have got it done with a oil base sealer because that new asphalt the latex sealer is going sheep in the oil-based waterproofing so the water to sit-on-top not to deteriorate the asphalt and yes to be honest they charged a lot of money to Sealcoat that SealMaster that materials anywhere from $2 to $4 a gallon depending on if they use wood stand base or just plain sealer to be honest it was completely watered down I'm not trying to make you feel bad at least tell them summertime to come back and put you a second coat that was a $3,500 job all day
😊👍 Hi Josh,
No worries! I’m not that sensitive! I appreciate the insight. My contractor is a local boy and his family has been around here for a long time. I’ll keep an eye on it and I’ll knock on his door if there are any issues. Thanks for checking out the video. Take care!
🚜🇺🇸🍺
Yeah your price is in the ballpark that's what I would have priced at. JB seal coating wautoma wi 2800$ 3000$
We use coal ltar sealer in Wisconsin here the best stuff around
Not getting any from seal master for $2 where I'm at
I do this for a living he is messy
😊👊 Hi Sean! I appreciate you checking out the video and commenting! It’s a tough job, thanks for paving the way!🚜🇺🇸🍺
No hard feelings but that's pretty watery sealer
😊Thanks for checking out the video!🚜🍺🇺🇸
God not the spray now they look like fly by ny nites
Dustin
Not entirely sure what you are saying, but these guys have been around a long time and have a good reputation. Thanks for watching!🚜🇺🇸
Man just looking at the sealer it's super watered down :(
😊👍 Thanks for checking out the video. I have found there are a lot of folks that are critical of this local veteran paver. If it doesn’t hold up, I know where he lives😂🤣
@@tractorrookie I own my own sealcoat business called sams sealcoat and striping llc in the future if you have any issues please feel free to give me a call.
@@jonsam360 Roger that! Thanks
for that kinda money he shouldn't have seal coated you stones..... absolutely not acceptable even if you said "don't worry about it"....ya worry about it
Roger that! Thanks for checking out the video!🚜🇺🇸🍺
I've been doing driveways for 20 years, I'm 4th generation in this business. First of all, they should not be using any type of water product on a brand new driveway. The water sealer will crack over time because it's so dense the driveway can't breath. He should have used an oil based product called gilsonite. It is very healthy for the driveway for the life of the driveway.
also, you paid $5,400 for 11,000 square feet? That's a tad high
$3,000 would have been fair
Finally, he over-sprayed your yard too much, and didn't trim out down by the road
👍💪Roger that! Thanks for checking out the video and commenting!🚜🍺🇺🇸
Sloppy job
😎👊💪🚜🇺🇸🍺
