Most skiers do not pass L3 or L4 the first time. I was told that by several L4 instructors. They know best because they were there. I am currently L2 arming for L3 but I expect it to take a couple of seasons.

Best skier is number 3. Fairly quiet upper body. Very rhymical and rounded short turns, with each creating explosive energy. Still suffers from popping up after each turn and losing snow contact slightly as I believe most of these skiers are doing. Need to absorb each turn and extend following to maintain snow contact. This will keep upper body more still. You want the upper body to essentially not look move up or down at all.

Skier #1 for me. High tempo, nice dynamics and very precise - I said the same last year to...

Positive: Most pole plants were decent. Setting a constant speed down the hill was done well.
Negative: Most skiers need cants as they have A-frames at the end of the turn. Snow is pushed perpendicular to their skis indicating that energy is purposely lost to control speed. Skier energy is lost energy because it was not gained from changing gravitational energy into momentum. Try completing turns by blocking the upper body and having skis come across the fall-line, rather than pushing snow to slow down. You should feel like you are throwing your body down the hill rather than using your mass to push the skis sideways. Also everyone doesn't put enough pressure on an early weighting of the uphill ski, soon to be the downhill ski. Get the turn done early and not force a J-turn at the end. Watch Shiffrin ski and you will see her start her turn earlier than other racers.
These are typical ski school turns. Many former racers now instructors have a difficult time controlling speed in a controlled environment such as demos because they are taught to not use J-turns. So for former racers, their speed increases even though the demonstration calls for constant speed. Giant slalom is the most difficult racing event because it requires precise round turns that are more similar from gate to gate than other events. In GS efficiency is the key, not athleticism such as in slalom, or guts such as in downhill. For myself, I have made many excellent short tuns but have never made the perfect GS turn.
Overall, these skiers (for their own development) need to develop a more racer developed technique and stay away from static ski school turns.

Im not an expert skier so that Im not sure. However to my feeling the third runner is the best. Stable balance and nice flow and rythm.

And here I am with 188cm and 88 underfoot skies trying to achieve half of what these ladies and gentlemen can do :) Might have to get a new pair of skies just to improve my short turns
