I saw that PSA will starting giving "authentic" or "altered" designations to cards they think someone has used cleaning products on. Im not sure how they think they can tell. Im sure there will be a ton of cards that get this designation, that have actually never been cleaned.
This is why I've stopped using PSA and Beckett. Between PSA handing out random 5s or mislabeling and BGS just leaving subgrades off I've gone to SGC for everything.
great to see your approach and frustrations. the irony is that submitters generally grade their cards higher than the professionals, yet in reality we highly value the psa opinion. high grade cards are worth more because they best represent perfection as produced and are rare it that special extra nice condition.

All the cards were graded authentic with an auto grade. Notified PSA and had to send them back again to wait another couple weeks.
This is why I no longer grade w/ PSA (or buy PSA cards) anymore. The whole "they don't like giving 10's" is ridiculous. A good card is a good card. I'm really into TAG so you can see why a card graded what it did. Beckett with sub grades also is good. It's 2024, no reason for subjective/unknown grading anymore.

Jeff. 6:54 I had this same thing happen to me with a Tony Romo SP rookie. The explanation I got from PSA was. If the card is oversized or perhaps cut incorrectly they will issue an authentic only grade to it. It’s so stupid.
Funny how BGS 9.5 crosses to a PSA 10 and SGC 10 crosses to PSA 9. For all the PSA and SGC followers… BGS is legit and much better than SGC and PSA in my opinion. You can find many more examples of this if you look at more videos :)
I don't think the SGC 10 to PSA 9 speaks to the quality of the card honestly. PSA is so random that you could probably cross an SGC 7 to a PSA 10 and a SGC 10 to a PSA 8 in the same order. SGC is the most consistent grader I have used and I trust their grades way more than I trust PSA (feels like PSA just throws darts).
I had a PSA order a little over a month ago with a handful of One Piece cards. PSA labeled them as the Japanese version when they were English. Japanese versions sell for 50%+ less than English so I was not happy haha
People fail to realize that even though PSA 10s are worth more on the secondary market, you have to get like a dozen 9s, 8s, 7s and 6s in the process just to get that (1) 10. So, in essence, it should be worth less because of all the money you lost on the other cards. Just my opinion. I've been going with TAG for most cards under $100 raw.
Ups and downs of a grade reveal are something I am very familiar with. Happy for you on the 10’s that you were able to get. I will say I think PSA is much harder on older cards for some reason and I don’t think that makes much sense. They should grade all cards by the same standard and not try to control the pop report
Yeah they hit me with a Wayne Gretzky authentic after it came from a bgs number grade. They said it’s because they couldn’t verify it wasn’t trimmed… that’s the price you pay to go with the best resale graders in the country
To protect population of PSA 10s, any well known or big cards won’t receive a ‘10.’ More likely to receive a 10 for an unknown player with low pop count then a superstar or Goat. That’s how PSA rolls. Cards are not objectively graded but subjectively

The lack of transparency from the largest grading company in the world is utterly shocking. Why do we continue to hold PSA at such a high level. Can we all collectively agree that PSA F'ing sucks?
I say this constantly. Shocked they have such sway. But reality is that everyone who feels that way also has some 10's they don't want to tank in value. Even though everyone complains...everyone is also invested by now.
Part of it is that PSA had marginally better values and a softer service pre-covid and when all the flippers and money seekers saw a milkable cash cow they went to PSA for easier 10s. And now anyone who joins the hobby looking at grading sees "PSA has most value" and goes there. The other part of it is the set registry. PSA still has the best registy. SGC needs to get one, CGC's needs to be better, I don't really know anything about BGS, and probably need a good "outsider" one for proper competition to drive this part out of the discussion.
@@Freethecommons I don't trust them as company or the quality/accuracy of their services. In my experience SGC 9s and 9.5s more often than not come back 10s from PSA as well under the same method. When it comes to buying PSA slabs I only look at it as a fancy top loader/one-touch/etc. with the bonus of (mostly) knowing that its an authentic card. But then again I'm comfortable buying for the card and not the grade. I also refuse to pay a "premium" price for PSA and will happily pass over one that's priced more than a few dollars over a card in a similar grade from SGC/CGC/Beckett that's a more appropriate price point. Though at this point Beckett's starting to falter quite a bit.
I have had an authentic grade on a pretty expensive card. Sometimes PSA will give authentic if they can’t confidently give a grade on a card that could be due to it being improperly cut from the manufacturer or a number of other reasons but yes that’s happened to me before. That’s annoying I get it.
PSA is so inconsistent with not only their card grading, but their auto grading. Like you Geoff I submitted a Jalen Hurts RPA /25 with a really strong and bold auto which they somehow gave it a 9.
I recently sent out the same CJ Stroud purple shock optic card. It had a print line down around his shins, but I figured a graded card is better than a raw card with that flaw. Still waiting to see what it gets.
Yes the authentic has happened to me several times with the 2023 Leaf Pro Set Pure cards.. basically there's something off as far as the cards size potentially..
With printing plates, it’s rare to get anything except authentic. Think about it. The printing plate is created, then they use is like crazy, slam down on it, scratch it up, and basically destroy it compared to a printing plate that isn’t used. I don’t agree with that personally, I think they should allow for wear and tear and surface scratches as that’s what it is supposed to be like, but psa doesn’t see it that way. Most printing plates will just get an authentic grade because they have no basis to know what a 10 would even be.
Burrow is a QB who has been to the SB and puts up stats. That makes sense. The Zion is going to tank below Kelce in a few years. Guy can’t stay on the court. Crazy talent will go unrealized. Lots of money has already been lost on Zion. High dollar cards of active young players is gambling. Sometimes you’ll get a Kobe or Curry career sometimes you’ll get Zion or worse Wiseman or Jabari Parker. Hell even retired players can screw you. See OJ Simpson
I know you can request just an authentication at a certain preset grade you pick for example, if it gets a six grade or below, they just authenticate and you can request that.
see some people critiquing PSA but, I blame 90% on the card manufacturers because a good example with even newer Heritage Topps 2024- fresh out of the pack Topps messed up 60% of my new cards from 1 monster & 1 hobby box. The shine was suppose to be on the front of the card, instead it was on the back, the front was very dull and, the reverse could not be read this is called: reversing, sad but, true. I also have at least 20% of them cards were off center or cards were cut wrong. You can't put that on PSA: My remedy was I stopped buying from Topps because they will never admit thier mistakes. I've collected since the 1960' and, thier were only 2 years Topps had good clean cards: 1987 & 1988. I got a PSA grade of 10 from 80% of my pulls in those Topps years, mostly from rack pa

The Burrow auto quality actually doesn’t look super clear / dark / solid. Surprised it got a 10. Kinda lucky, I think.
I love SGC. Waiting for my cards to get graded as we speak
Aren't there supposed to be grader notes now?
They grade plates as authentic now. Just got an order back with one as well just as authentic in a 50 card order.
How much did you get the bobby witt jr for, or what did you trade for it?
I have had an authentic grade on a pretty expensive card. Sometimes PSA will give authentic if they can’t confidently give a grade on a card that could be due to it being improperly cut from the manufacturer or a number of other reasons but yes that’s happened to me before. That’s annoying I get it.
Good to know PSA equally bends us ALL over...
I gotta say as a Ripken fan, getting an 8 on the '84 Topps is perfectly ironic.
Him - "thankfully its not that expensive to grade cards today"
Me - 60k is cheap 😂
"PSA has good customer service" SAID NO ONE ON PLANET EARTH
Jeff- Michael Harris PSA 7 yellow. I saw a pretty big scratch on the upper left side of the card about 25% down from the corner on left side.
Graders notes on older cards are going to be very, very interesting if they get those to the bulk value
Welcome to the party pal. Considering your status in the industy screw ups can happen to anyone.
PSA is so inconsistent with not only their card grading, but their auto grading. Like you Geoff I submitted a Jalen Hurts RPA /25 with a really strong and bold auto which they somehow gave it a 9.
I think psa prob messed up on that austin reaves, but the reaction was funny lol
Often times on sapphire cards there are very hard to see print lines, so that may be the reason the Harris got a 7.
Solid return!
Hey, I had a little question about PSA grading. Does the warping or curve of a card affect the grading if there aren’t any creases or damages?
No, I don’t believe that affects the grade
i remember mid 90's Topp's Finest... had to put them in a phonebook to get those suckers flat fresh of the press 🤣
I’ve had that happen when psa damaged my card and they didn’t want to send back as a 3 so they sent as authentic… did they help me out at all… no.
Did you alter the card while cleaning it? 😮 I never seen that.
Haha I promise I did not!!
its a one of one so doesn't matter what grade, but matters when price is high dollar.
I love ‘84 Topps. PSA hates ‘84 Topps. I have a PSA 8 Ripken that would be at least a 9.5 SGC
11:45 wasn’t centered tell on front diagonal lines going to the corners easy
It's weird how a rookie burrow and rookie Zion are worth more than a rookie kelce auto 🤔 kelce has won titles ,Zion and burrow haven't won anything
I like that use the terminology of cost ratio versus grade
Yup psa does that. I have a few that have misspelling. Idc enough to send it back. Lol
I know you can request just an authentication at a certain preset grade you pick for example, if it gets a six grade or below, they just authenticate and you can request that.
When and where is the national
I have over 100 Griffey Jr's i cant even afford to grade
Authentic could be as a result from PSA damaging the card, but they would ask you first what to do.
"I'M HOPING FOR TENS." Oh, really? I figured you were shooting for 4s and 5s.
Classic - love it!
see some people critiquing PSA but, I blame 90% on the card manufacturers because a good example with even newer Heritage Topps 2024- fresh out of the pack Topps messed up 60% of my new cards from 1 monster & 1 hobby box.
