I’m with you bro! I love to know how my card reached its grade. I did my 86 fleer set all Beckett because that was the thing when I was a kid. I sent 240 cards to PSA a couple years ago and I still can’t figure out why I got the grades I got. I have the 87 and 88 fleer set all PSA because of the price of grading at the time. If PSA did sub-grades they might become the gold standard for everyone. Also what makes me mad is the price of a card in a PSA slab vs BGS. Many times a PSA side a BGS looks the same or better and the grade isn’t close. I hope BGS can get submitting can be a much easier process.
@A20HobbyCards their notes feature is bullshit. They say their cards are looked at by 2 graders which means I should see 2 sets of notes. Cards graded in NJ have way worse Gem rates than Cali graded cards. It is just more gambling sending cards to PSA. 0 consistency.

Personally I would stay away from graders notes, you pay through the nose for that service and gives them passage to note any tiny little defect and downgrade the card. I have a 1993-94 Upper Deck SE Johnny Kilroy/Michael Jordan I sent graders notes level it had a speck of white on 1 corner and I mean a tiny speck, corner got noted and downgraded to a PSA 9. I haven't seen a PSA 9 Nicer than mine and mine is better than Any Gem Mint I've seen recently. Ask yourself how many PSA 10 GEM MINTS have you seen with white corners if not other issues... because I've seen a shyte tonne!. The Johnny Kilroy card will be cracked and sent elsewhere.
Iive seen MANY PSA 10s that were maybe a 9 at best and I've seen PSA 6 that was at least a 9, i really didnt see anything wrong with it but im no expert but I would have bet anything if it was cracked and sent back in, it would have at least gotten a 9. Just terrible that this hobby has given PSA the hierarchy bc they clearly do not deserve it.@Str8Shooter-hr7yc
I recently sent in cards and got some damaged cards back PSA 5’s and 6’s. I swear the damaging saw was not there before I sent it in. Serious damage. Then the rest of my cards were all 10’s it’s almost like some got damaged so they tried to make it all up with 10’s after. It felt really off.
Can we get a video from PSA where they explain the reasons why cards get the grades that they do? Like a total breakdown of what they look for, what they see on a card, who is actually grading the card, actual examples, etc. We get a breakdown and a grade of an umpire missing balls and strikes in an MLB game but you don’t get an explanation or understand why your card gets a bad grade or even a good one. It could help so much in whether we send cards in for grading or we don’t.
@Sweet_Spot_Breaks TAG Grading always gives you a full report on your graded cards so you know exactly where the issues were and why it recieved the grade it did. And that's included in the normal price.
As a community, denounce PSA as “the gold standard”. Pay cheaper grading rates and get your cards back in 2 weeks or less with SGC while also adding in the 9.5 taking out false 10s, but also differentiating between 9s.
I've been there brother, and more than once - feel your pain! In terms of a process, I go over the card(s) 3 different times, now. I use a lamp and a jeweler's loupe each time and in the last review, I use a LED black light. I do a pre-grade video and a grade reveal video and edit them into one video. That has helped to keep me more accountable. I keep track of my pre-grade predictions and track the data on how accurate I am for each submission. If it doesn't make sense financially to grade it, I take the card out from the sub. I worry less about getting PSA 10's and more about how accurate I am in predicting the same grade assigned by the grader. I keep track of: correctly predicted, over pre-graded, and under pre-graded, for each sub. Each time, I try to increase my accuracy prediction rate and lower my over pre-graded rate. If I under pre-grade, that is a bonus, but I also try to reduce the percentage as well. Slowly and steadily I have been improving my "stats." I also put 5-7 cards I think will 10 at the front of the order and if I submit two of the same card, I put the lower pre-graded card ahead of the other card. It is a time intensive process but worth it, imo.
Can you please have Nat on to ask why PSA grades are so inconsistent? Even if the rationale is they are trying to keep pop counts low, that means that older PSA 10s aren’t in Gem Mint condition according to today’s standards. This means PSA is jeopardizing their name and reputation by giving two cards in different condition the same grade and completely undermining their “grading standards”. Grading cards tougher today than they used to is also a huge problem. That means the market needs to start paying significantly less for PSA 10s graded in the past and that too raises a lot of problems.
Along those lines, he should ask what the experience level was of the first grader and whether anyone took an independent look at the cards following that or if they just reviewed the cards knowing the grades. If you've done this type of work, you know there's a major difference between having two people evaluate something independently vs having one approve another person's decision. There's a strong tendency to just agree, especially when backed up.
Not sure what’s going on but I have to second that opinion. We used to get 50% 10’s other 45% 9’s and 5% other. Lately we get 33% 10’s, 33% 9’s and 33% 8’s or even lower. Some cards were cracked out of SGC 9.5 and 10 along with BGS 9.5 and those came back as all 8’s and 9’s. Only ones that came back 10’s were all low value cards. I’m gonna go through them under microscope to see if they damaged it before contacting them.
Total speculation but this looks like they are using more computer imaging / data and have not figured out how to translate it into their grading system. The magnified image picks up 27 minor defects on the surface. Maybe 3 of these you could see with your eye if you were told where to look. Before the imaging you would get a 10 or a 9 if the grader spotted one of those three. The computer says “27” defects found. The computer says that equates to a 7. If they give graders notes it would say “surface” and nothing more.

Time to use TAG or Beckett they explain the grading. PSA is nonsense its time they explain why a card is given a certain grade and provide the subgrades
For others (flippers and sellers/traders), PSA has helped the hobby. There are more people willing to buy more raw cards with the hope of getting one of those difficult 10s. Because is “more difficult” to get a PSA 10, then one should expect higher multiples for 10s compared to 9s and 8s. So, more people keep buying cards, grading cards, spending money. A great experiment would be to crack and resub all of the undergraded cards. I've often thought about doing this when I thought that I got an unfair grader, as you did here. It's a potentially expensive experiment but would be informative and interesting to see how much grades can change from grader to grader.
Yeah, but if you look at the cases on those kaboom’s, the ones with the plastic, wrapping or Psa‘s pretty much uncrackable cases, they have an inner layer case inside of that case and you can’t crack that without destroying the card
On the flip side, it would interesting to crack 10s and resubmit to see how many come back as 10s. Results would really show whether these grades are even legit. It would be pricey, but a great experiment to test whether PSA graders are operating on a quota for 10s, 9s, etc.
Analyzing a card for grading is silly. The reality is you have minimum wage workers looking at a card for 5 seconds to determine the grade while Nat Turner manages pop reports/gem rates
Correct the biggest thing is NAT turner. Everyone knows at this point he has one of the best collections in the world. You think he’s gonna let the population of 10’s increase significantly? Destroying the value of his investments? It’s not rocket science the answer is absolutely not
So a few red flags here. 1. If you submit to PSA the old grade (which it looks like he did) from the other company, they will 100% imo give you a weak grade. They want to give the illusion that they are more detailed and better. 2. If you submit with the lowest grading service, they will be more harsh 3. If you submit hot cards or hot players, they have a pop count they manipulate, and a 10 is just out of the question. Many employees and the ceo collect cards and more 10s devalued the cards. So they don't give them on hot players or cards. Unless you pay the premium highest service then maybe.
Watch, once they're convinced they have squeezed all the juice from the lemon, and they profit the most from your 10, then and only then will we mortals receive the blessings of a 10. Like our news agencies, the don't want to do their job and report, they want to create and control the market. 😢😅
Not surprising because BVG allowed things like roller marks and frayed edges because that’s the way it came from the factory and with the technology at the time. It’s why people started sending vintage to SGC because they are more respected in that field.
This is my experience with PSA the last few times. Just outrageously low grades with no real basis for it when compared to my other PSA slabs in higher grades
So who is better Beckett?? LOL SGC is alright but the holders are way too thick and large. Also PSA owns SGC or Collectors Group actually owns both PSA and SGC.
@@PaulsChannel779 Use TAG. Everyone complains about inconsistent grading, not knowing why a card grades the way it does, and slabs being to bulky or ugly. Then a company comes along that addresses all of those concerns and people shit all over them. Everyone that continues to push PSA deserves everything they pay for.
It's always the surface. I've cracked many PSA 6-8 cards to get a closer look and there is always a scratch or dimples or bubbles. I use a magnifying glass with an attached light and it's saved me thousands.
Yeah these are all nice theories, BUT did both SGC and BCG miss things PSA didnt?? No. Way. In. Hell. PSA is all just random, subjective nonsense. If we ALL stop using them, their behavior will change. PSA does this to control POP counts and increase values on cards their owners, best customers and graders own.
@@scrwwea_nhl_hut5288 I see many SGC 10 slabs with cards that have major issues visible on the back of the card. That's why people send their vintage cards there; they get artificially high grades. If the BGS was older, there's a good chance they were not being as picky or using the same technology when grading as they do now.
I sent 2 of those Jordan cards in recently. It came back a 6 and 7. Both of my mine looked perfect too. PSA is very inconsistent. I might try sending them into SGC to get higher grades.
@@jessebunn7874 PSA has sent cards back with 6 and 7 grades. People have resubmitted the same card and it comes back a 10. It has happened to me and others. It has a lot to do with who is grading that day. But a 4 grade difference is a pretty big deal. Companies like SGC and CGC are more consistent.
I never graded, but I like that TAG grading takes out the subjectivity and gives a detailed report. Probably will try them if I ever grade. This PSA subjectivity is crazy. Then PSA can extort additional fees if it grades well is wild
They would never give you enough detail to be satisfied. It’s always an opinion of value of defects. Giving you details is ammunition for you to disagree stronger. They are better off not saying anything. Leaves you pissed but not angry.
If you don't crack them out they aren't properly examining the cards, because how can they through plastic. Most of the time they will take your money and say it wouldn't make your minimum acceptable grade.
I have seen cards with a bent corners, scratched surfaces and color loss get PSA 10's. People don't care as long as the label says 10 they will pay up.
I’ve only ever got 1 card graded my self and it got a ten, some people don’t know how to take care of the cards correctly like leaving them in display of the sun
I recently had half a 36 card set of Topps 1969 Wacky Ads, all cards sent were four sharp corners having only slight centering issues. I received one 9 and half a dozen 8's, a couple 7's and 6's. Four came back 4's and one a 3. I'm highly confused that a card with no creases and four sharp corners could ever be a 3, I'll be cracking those open.

Yeah, but if you look at the cases on those kaboom’s, the ones with the plastic, wrapping or Psa‘s pretty much uncrackable cases, they have an inner layer case inside of that case and you can’t crack that without destroying the card
It's been done before , over 60% changed grades from a 9 to a 10.
On the flip side, it would interesting to crack 10s and resubmit to see how many come back as 10s. Results would really show whether these grades are even legit. It would be pricey, but a great experiment to test whether PSA graders are operating on a quota for 10s, 9s, etc.
I just sent in 3 cards to get graded for the first time, I was confident they’d get a 10 and now I’m fairly sure they’ll all get
One day people will learn not to send to PSA
Thank you Geoff, Tim Tebow, and AI for your New Years Resolutions
Analyzing a card for grading is silly. The reality is you have minimum wage workers looking at a card for 5 seconds to determine the grade while Nat Turner manages pop reports/gem rates
This is true
How do you know they are minimum wage
@aj2261 The jobs are advertised online
Correct the biggest thing is NAT turner. Everyone knows at this point he has one of the best collections in the world. You think he’s gonna let the population of 10’s increase significantly? Destroying the value of his investments? It’s not rocket science the answer is absolutely not
@BigDirtDawg Haha, he's dodgy as hell
pSA should be seized by the feds.
Why? The feds are the real criminals.
I love these vids keep them coming!
This is a great video to show why you should NEVER send your cards to PSA. No explanation and looks like bad grading. Beckett if you must get graded.
So a few red flags here.
1. If you submit to PSA the old grade (which it looks like he did) from the other company, they will 100% imo give you a weak grade. They want to give the illusion that they are more detailed and better.
2. If you submit with the lowest grading service, they will be more harsh
3. If you submit hot cards or hot players, they have a pop count they manipulate, and a 10 is just out of the question. Many employees and the ceo collect cards and more 10s devalued the cards. So they don't give them on hot players or cards. Unless you pay the premium highest service then maybe.
PSA has especially been diabolical lately. 😢
Watch, once they're convinced they have squeezed all the juice from the lemon, and they profit the most from your 10, then and only then will we mortals receive the blessings of a 10. Like our news agencies, the don't want to do their job and report, they want to create and control the market. 😢😅
You know Nat is sitting back watching this video with a drink and laughing.
I sent a card in recently, Gretzky rookie from topps 79. Was a BVG 8, and came back a PSA 6. Was pretty disappointed.
No surprise with that one...BVG is very shady...the stepchild of BGS
@ Yeah I’ve learned my lesson, a $2K lesson, but a one and done nonetheless.
If it's a BVG 8 it's usually 1-3 grades lower for PSA. Hence the price differences.
“Teapot: get Nat on line 1”
Really appreciate the honest content. Just another dude getting cards graded, like the rest of us mortals. Thank you for keeping it 💯
We need to come together and get rid of this PSA stigma. There’s no reason PSA should fetch higher prices while having such crap service and product
🤣 "for the love of God, What is going on? ....The corners are brilliant, the edges are brilliant." 🤣
PSA sucks so much. I’m so glad I’ve been sending most of my cards to CGC the day adt several months. You get the actual grade your card deserves
I’m a huge fan of BGS, that’s where I submit my cards. But if anything happens to Beckett I’m switching to CGC before ever going to PSA.
SGC gets my business. PSA is a joke
Yet to use Cgc. Will give them a try. PSA and SGC are awful companies
@@AaronZ82Apparently a few Beckett graders went to Cgc. Beckett give you the grades you expect
@thefishhobbyist5478 Fair enough. I've just had a bad experience with them
Always great to hear you lost !! Keep up the good work
It's always the surface. I've cracked many PSA 6-8 cards to get a closer look and there is always a scratch or dimples or bubbles. I use a magnifying glass with an attached light and it's saved me thousands.
I agree
I would guess the most common surface issue that people submitting overlook are indents
Geoff’s face expressions to some of these reveals…priceless!😂😂
This shows just how subjective card grading is.
Did PSA switch to their scanning grading system? Would explain it if so.
And yet people hold them as the gold standard of grading
No, everyone knows they're corrupt but the best ROI is reality.
Exactly there's zero!!!! rhyme or reason why alot of these cards people send in get the grades they get. It literally a gamble.
@@virtualcardshoppetraveland3655 only the hobby can change that narrative
They are
I thought the title was going to be hyperbolic....but wow. Now I am leery of my PSA order I just sent off.
Send them to TAG and see the scans!
I only grade modern cards with TAG, no doubt once you get the report back. PSA is too inconsistent and over 2 months return time, no thanks.
Ya an get 50% of a psa slab.
"A 6!?"
His faces are so frickin funny🤣
That Jordan should not have been a 6
I sent 2 of those Jordan cards in recently. It came back a 6 and 7. Both of my mine looked perfect too. PSA is very inconsistent. I might try sending them into SGC to get higher grades.
How do u know?
@@jessebunn7874 PSA has sent cards back with 6 and 7 grades. People have resubmitted the same card and it comes back a 10. It has happened to me and others. It has a lot to do with who is grading that day. But a 4 grade difference is a pretty big deal. Companies like SGC and CGC are more consistent.
That Jordan card had a top to bottom centering issue big time... well not psa 6 big, but welcome to the club man
The dreaded 6 they throw in every bulk order
Lol
so true there's always one
I never graded, but I like that TAG grading takes out the subjectivity and gives a detailed report. Probably will try them if I ever grade. This PSA subjectivity is crazy. Then PSA can extort additional fees if it grades well is wild
I’ve got an idea! GRADERS NOTES!!!
They would never give you enough detail to be satisfied. It’s always an opinion of value of defects. Giving you details is ammunition for you to disagree stronger. They are better off not saying anything. Leaves you pissed but not angry.
almost every PSA reveal I have seen makes me never want to submit a card or pay money for them to scam me
feel bad for you Geoff, thanks for your transparency though!
bro,are you interested in collaborating with me to resell star cards from China to the United States
I sold you those 3 prizm deca cards. Glad to see they gemed out for you.
They do this crap on purpose, hoping people will crack and resubmit spending more money.
I gotta say your reactions are priceless. The deadpan look into the camera reminds me of NEO when he opens wax.....fade to black......
It's almost not werth it anymore psa better watch out they may grade there way out of business
I dont know how this process works but if you slip a couple of benjis between your cards it has to help.
I'm not ever sending my cards to psa . I will not take a chance with valuable cards...... no way
Don't risk it. They'll just crease your cards and upcharge
bro,are you interested in collaborating with me to resell star cards from China to the United States
I thought you could do a crossover and state the minimum grade you can accept?
If you don't crack them out they aren't properly examining the cards, because how can they through plastic. Most of the time they will take your money and say it wouldn't make your minimum acceptable grade.
STOP SENDING CARDS TO PSA. THEY ARE SCAMMERS THAT DESERVE TO GO OUT OF BUSINESS.
Question, do you use a magnifying glass to inspect the cards. Just was wondering
I have seen cards with a bent corners, scratched surfaces and color loss get PSA 10's. People don't care as long as the label says 10 they will pay up.
knowing the vibe around... a lot of people really enjoyed watching this! 😂
Sorry to see that. What do you think went wrong? Handling on their end?
Geoffs my daddy and i have dna evidence on my paul skenes 1/1 skidmark logoman
Loved Geoff’s shocked reaction on the 91 MJ PSA 6! 😂
No sticky notes were harmed in the making of this video. Honestly, that was some tuff grading.
Maybe send ALL of them to SGC and get fair grades
Psa owns em
they grade easier...
the jordan baseball front left right centering is off slightly but not enough for a 6
PSA is AWFUL
I’ve only ever got 1 card graded my self and it got a ten, some people don’t know how to take care of the cards correctly like leaving them in display of the sun
The MJ fleer baseball had a centering problem from top to bottom. The top border was thicker than the bottom. Not much though. Not enough for a 6!! 😂😂
Came to say that. I said a 7 before he showed it.
I just submitted 5 cards with a bulk submitter. I'm already sick to my stomach because of trust issues. Now I see this .Your killing me smalls!
Geoff you'd think just because of who you are, PSA will mark everything you send them a 10! Any chance you don't actually know everything.
I am having flashbacks to when I used to send cards in for grading. Now I leave that to the true gamblers.
PSA is ridiculous that's why I don't grade with them I'm very happy with sgc
I recently had half a 36 card set of Topps 1969 Wacky Ads, all cards sent were four sharp corners having only slight centering issues. I received one 9 and half a dozen 8's, a couple 7's and 6's. Four came back 4's and one a 3. I'm highly confused that a card with no creases and four sharp corners could ever be a 3, I'll be cracking those open.
PSA is a joke.
Are these issues happening if these bags are used daily? I just got the pochette metis in monogram canvas from the Kusama collection. I love the multicolored polka dots and hope they donât melt on me, lol. But I donât think itâll be in my regular rotation. I also have a NoeNoe in DA but only use that a few times a year in the spring and summer so I havenât put that much wear and tear into it. I hope I donât see the fraying for a while. Also, Iâm saving up for a kislux . Has your colleague seen the same issues with that size? I donât mind some relaxation in shape but I donât want it to be a puddle either. Thanks for the video!
I think Beckett have more experienced graders in their 30's, not all teenagers
I have my first ever submission at PSA right now..... and now I'm terrified.
Did the package make it there safe?? Damaged in travel to PSA??
This is the type of grade reveal that will lead someone to Kurt’s card care hahahaha damn
Why do you keep pulling the plastic protectors off of the slabs? Those are put there to prevent scratches.
