  • Bodycam footage shows the moments surrounding a kidnapping that turned deadly when a suspect shot his ex-girlfriend in Georgia on July 16. The Fayetteville Police Department said 20-year-old Cameron Hopkins showed up armed at a Wingstop restaurant and forced 19-year-old Khaliyah Jones to leave with him. Hopkins then led police on a high-speed chase before shooting Jones when officers caught up to him. The Law&Crime Network’s Sierra Gillespie breaks it down.

He kidnaped her a year earlier with a gun and threatened to kill her. Yet a judge lowered his bond to a affordable level for his family. And even after a year he had not gone to trial. This death is all on the court and their lax attitude towards dangerous people.

I was kidnapped by my ex-husband in 2019 also in Atlanta. He left me in an empty parking lot at 3 AM with no shoes, phone, or even my glasses. My ex-husband was arrested the next morning with an immediate order of protection for me. He pleaded guilty for a lesser sentence. I never had to see him again… or so I thought. Two years later he chased me down the highway until I parked at a gas station and ran inside for help. You never know for sure, but if they’re brazen enough to show you who they are once, they will probably have the nerve to escalate in the future.
