Hi,MIranda! This is a really helpful follow-up to the previous video! I hear so much about the Kadi (Vee being a big fan, of course, as well as others), Bee, Baohong, Strathmore... Part of me is really curious to try them, but the logical, budgetary-minded (boring???) me reminds me, very loudly and firmly, that I currently have a reasonable stock of several watercolour papers left over from our paper trial which I plan to make into sketchbooks, as well as a square Hahnemühle (5.5 x 5.5" / 14 x 14cms) and two Seawhite (A5 & A6). And first I have to finish that A5 portrait Hahnemühle. and I'm just haf way through,
Then I am overstocked with dry-media sketchbooks because apart from what was already in the box, I accidentally ordered another A4 Seawhite when I'd ordered one only a month before (!!!) and also, W&N finally sorted out my sketchbook issues and I not only have the damaged sketchbooks (2 each A4 & A6) but two reasonably undamaged, same sizes.
The damaged sketchbooks? Poor quality control, and they were falling apart from inadequate gluing, plus totally inadequate packing, not once, but three times!!! Hence the Seawhite, as I won't be buying W&N again and had already decided to go back to an old favourite.
I've always been a W&N stalwart, and apart from their dry media sketchbooks (the black 170gsm case-bound books, which also take ink and light watercolour beautifully!), I still am, but the move to have these sketchbooks made in China??? Hmmm....
So, if you hear me mention trying new paper... please do remind me ... 😄😄😄Meanwhile, have a safe and super weekend! I'm looking forward to see how you make out with a non-themed Inktober this year. 🤗

The Strathmore watercolor journal was my first watercolor paper, so naturally I love it and it holds a special place in my heart 🥰 but I also love mossery's watercolor sketchbook, I know not many enjoy it for actual watercolor but I love how it behaves and that it dries quickly 😊 it was really interesting to see your favorites and I'm hoping one day I'll get to try the baohong sketchbook it just looks so nice!

I need to finish up my sketchbook from Khadi. It is 5”x5” and doesn’t really have a cover but I just love it. It makes me want to order more from them. I should go through mine like as well. I’m sure I have a few that I could gladly pass on to one or two of my grandkids. * I don’t know why I don’t do YT videos. I used to live stream on an app called Periscope and had tons of followers before the app closed. I think I moved over 800 videos to YT but they were app specific so I kept them private. I miss the community. Oh well, who knows. I really love your channel. You are great at fostering a sense of community and I love how down-to-earth you are. Watching overdramatized people is so exhausting.

This is really good. I love the other video just as much. I really dislike the viva sketchbook as well. At first, I was excited it looked nice. It felt nice but the reaction of my water colours on it was less than ideal. I can only seem to use one side, the backside Watercolor‘s work differently and do and don’t absorb. And you can’t use so many things on it like Masking fluid and tape it’s also not great with any other mediums. I was very disappointed because in Australia this is just over $40.

Oh ouch, that is expensive. I'll definitely be playing with mine some more. I really liked it and it makes me curious if mine is different than some previous versions or if the Khadi paper just got me used to working on that type of paper. I'm not sure!

So I realized you didn't mention your Hahnemuhle sketchbooks on either video. Are they on your total pooh list? Kitty at the end is gorgeous! Going to e-mail you a pic of my old man. He looks pretty scruffy compared to your kitties.

Hi Miranda, it is possible that the old bee paper sketchbook will be different from the new one coming out. Since changing owners i have not heard good things about bee paper like i did under the previous owners. As for which sketchbooks i would want, i cannot say. I don't have enough experience with different sketchbooks. I am hoping that will change.

Nice follow up, thanks. Between your and Lindsay’s (I’m sorry if it’s Lindsey, I never remember) sketchbook “reveals” lol I took a look at my stash and have 15 or so kinda used and a whole bunch of new ones, so I’m giving myself an “accountability” project. My no-buy was shot to heck (it’s not Greg’s fault, truly, 😂 lol) but I have to draw the line at buying new sketchbooks, blocks and pads as well as full sheets. That “want monster” has got to go on a diet and with so many RUclipsrs talking about sizing issues it’s really an incentive to use what I’ve got. So I’m making myself accountable to myself - use only already-started books until they’re all filled, then I’ll pick a new one from my stash.
Sketchbooks I do like: any of the Khadi’s, weight or texture, they all behave differently; Stillman & Burns with the blue cover; and Alibabette Editions, which is not “watercolor paper” but takes it like a pro. (I posted some pics of the Alibabette sketchbook on Instagram, fyi) Full sheets are an entirely different subject.
    Thanks again. This was fun.

Love hearing your take on all this! I read your comment when it first came in but I was in my phone and wanted to wait for a "real" keyboard to reply, lol. The sizing really is a concern, it seems, so it'll be good to use up what's already opened. For me, too!

Cool video. I really liked the look of your baohong sketchbook and I really want one but they're ridiculously expensive to get a hold of in the UK. I have a seawhite watercolour Plein air sketchbook that's 225gsm and I love that for watercolours. I agree the moleskin paper is not good for watercolour despite being specifically marketed for it - I have an A6 sized one that I love for the size but I just use fineliners and pencil in it now. It can't stand up to watercolour at all

Yes, the Baohong one is a joy to work in. Bummer that's its hard to get in the UK. 😕
