  • Today I finally caved and took a first look at the early access version of the Flysimware Learjet 35A in Microsoft Flight Simulator. The aircraft doesn't have any formal documentation yet, but it does have checklists in the EFB, and you can work around many of the cockpit systems. I'm already looking forward to see it progress over the months ahead - it's already very good. I make a few mistakes along the way, but then that's half the fun with a new aircraft - figuring out what you did, and learning the lessons for next time.
    Here's a link to the checklist i have written (so far) - which is obviously only a first draft - it may change significantly as the aircraft develops, and as we know more.

      jonathan from what i've read I believe the disengagement of VS when twiddling with the pitch control is correct behaviour. One you have the VS you desire you then re-engage AP VS. I _think_ this is correct behaviour but still learning! (BAE146 is the same?)

    I was quite literally looking for any Learjet just about three weeks ago. But I couldn't find anything for MSFS. this is a breath of fresh air. In my past career, as only a passenger, I logged in numerous hundreds of hours on our company learjet 35 and 60 (when we upgraded). This look inside does match up really well with what I remember. I can't wait to get this when it comes out. And yes, often times we took off like a rocket out of certain airports who had noise abatement rules that required steep angled take off climbs!! This is such a treat and so exciting to see! and timely! Thanks so much for sharing this even though it's a first draft. I'm sure there will be so so many people like me wanting to put some money down on this and any other learjet models. WAHOO!!!! Our main pilot (captain) often let me hang out in the jump-seat position (no seat, just wedged in standing) on landings. that was a real treat, seeing the ground come up so fast. Our crew were so so kind, Great times. Also, I remember one trip we had to duck into the Learjet (Bombardier) factory for something. that was a great trip.

    I’ve been saying for a while that we’re short of good business jets in the sim. And now we have two promising additions in a matter of days. Think I’ll get this, sounds aside which I’m sure they will fix, looks good.
    And kudos on the go around. Whether intentional or not, given recent events, good call.

    I've been aching for as you say a "refreshingly old school" high performance bizjet, and this Lear delivers in spades! Got it as soon as the prerelease became available. Have had more fun with it than just about anything else. You are absolutely right - this one does require a bit more attention as it can get ahead of you. Try an ILS approach to what turns out into below minimums requiring go-around and divert to another airport, with icing, and you can get very busy indeed! OK, could use some better sounds and at least basic engine abuse failure modeling, but maybe those things will come along later. VERY HIGHLY recommended!

    A few instances of "again, early access" comments here that aren't issues with the product, but rather a lack of understanding as to how the systems in the airplane work.
    1) VS hold on the autopilot turned off because you used the trim barrel to adjust the pitch. Its just VS hold, it isn't VS select. As soon as you use the trim barrel, the AP disengages any selected vertical mode and goes into pitch hold, which is an unannunciated mode. It's also the mode we climb the real airplane with 90% of the time.
    2) The TR's didn't open when you landed because you didn't arm them. The fact that they seem to kinda work without being armed is a simulator limitation in terms of how the arming feature is coded.
    3) The lock feature on the nosewheel steering didn't work because you were going too fast.

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  6 месяцев назад

      1. Good to know.
      2. Realised that when I parked and talked about it :)
      3. It's more than that - the nosewheel steering didn't engage while standing still on the first click either. I kept quiet about it at the time. I've seen it in multiple flights with the plane now.

    I’ve worked these in real life depending on the crew the ground power is used these are mostly used in a medical transport roll. I’d say it comes down to the operator starting on batteries will shorten the battery life however cut the costs from using ground power. Some also pilots say you have to use it however I’ve watched Lear 35s leave on battery start don’t know if there’s some upgrade required to use battery or what.

    Reversers need to be ARMED again shortly before touchdown. Thats why you didnt have them available. They work fine. Great video :-)

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes - exactly what I said - BUT they activated without being armed the second time I hit the reverse levers. There's a few odd things. You can pull the throttles out of idle without releasing them just by moving the throttle levers, for example. I'm sure they'll fix it all :)

    Jon, thanks for this video. I've just picked the Lear so this will come in mighty useful.
    I notice when I'm on GPS mode with the Garmin, I find it impossible to switch over to Loc mode to use the ILS unless I first knock off the "suspension" symbol that comes on next to CDI on the Garmin. However, I see you did the switch without a hitch. I wonder how you did that or what I've been doing wrong?!

    I really love this aircraft and have been using it since version 1.0.3. Unfortunately version 1.0.6 is somewhat unusable for my due to the high pitch tone of the inverters, it has become to loud and after a minute of 15 it becomes unbearable / very annoying so I stopped using the aircraft. Hope the fix that soon.

    Hi Jonathan,
    After having seen your movie about the learjet 35A I decided to buy the software.
    However, it seems not possible to run the installer to install the plane for MSFS 2020.
    Is this correct ?

      What's wrong with the GPS? Many late model Learjet 35A aircraft had GPS factory fitted. Granted, it wasn't the GNS 530 - more likely the 300, or a competitor, but they had them :) You don't HAVE to use it :)

      Plenty of higher
      quality aircraft e.g.: Felis add-ons. Give you an old-school experience without replacing traditional systems with a big ugly GPS or FMC. Ideally they should give you a choice to remove it.
