Already has become my go to place. A very informative channel that explains things fairly simply. I have watched channels to learn something and they just baffle and confuse me, here on this channel I have learnt a lot.
Your channel is a wealth of information. My sincere thanks. I was getting ready to read hundreds of pages of manuals after getting the WB-Sim Cessna 172 improvement addon, but seeing it visually with someone explaining and demonstrating is so much better. I'll just docs to complement your videos. Thanks again!
I've been using MSFS for 2 years and had trouble using GNS systems all the time, but your video solved my problem. Thank you very much! It's amazing how easy it all turned out! good luck, good man!
Thank you prof! I learned with your very good tutorial how to create flightplan from scratch. Before I just know how to set direct to airport and approach !
I said it in the MD-88 vide as well... but man Jonathan your videos are tops! Learn so much from you. Been meaning to learn how to use the GNS530 and this video was a great help, cheers. Glad I subbed
I love your videos! They explain it so nicely. Very interesting to watch as well, even if I never intend to even fly this airplane it's just interesting to see how it works.
Thank you so much! I’ve been a bit intimidated by this equipment so haven’t been using it much. Your explanations are always excellent and very helpful. Gotta go try this!
The best explanation I've seen thus far! Thank you for explaining this system in such easy detail. I now understand several aspects of the system that I was having difficulty with. Very well done and I really appreciate your time and efforts!! Please keep these tutorials coming, they help tremendously!
The VNAV in this device doesn't actually make the AP fly through your altitudes, like it does with the coupled VNAV on the G1000. There is no altitude constraint support in the flight plan functions of this device. The VNAV button just takes you to a live updating descent calculator and you must fly the descent manually (or by manually adjusting VS if you have it). So you chose the target waypoint, the altitude you want to be at that waypoint (or a set distance before it), the rate of descent you want to have, and then it gives you a TOD countdown timer. Then as you descend it gives you real time guidance for how you have to adjust your feet-per-minute in order to reach your target altitude exactly at the point you chose. It's all just calculated guidance that doesn't integrate into the AP directly.
Good point - to be honest I was skipping lots of functionality by the point I recorded - I had all sorts of problems getting this recorded (mostly interruptions). What you saw was about the sixth take, at nearly midnight...
Perfect timing with this video, I’ve just made a ‘knobster’ type device with a dual encoder with push buttons, single rotary encoder (map zoom) and a 3 way rocker switch to select FMS - ADF - COM/VLOC function, works great in VR
Great, job I am learning to use this in the Skymaster 2, the keyboard icon and the chapter and page make a lot more sense now. Pity you cannot save the flight plan on the unit and just recall it.
Hi Jonathan thank you for the tutorial I need a tutorial on the " next step ILS " approach, a continuation of this video Do you have one ??? Again thank you and have a great day
Great video, one question for you. If you're flying a flight plan with quite a few waypoints. How can you display how much time until you reach your final destination. Not just the ETA to the next waypoint, but I want to know when my plane will get to the final airport to land, will it be an additional 30 minutes, if I have a good tailwind will I get there sooner does it display this time
Perfect Jonathan very informative thank you, and about to use the Twotter I see it has the same GPS config. Fingers xd for an ILS in the Twotter toot :-) TY
I struggled thru this as far as scrolling and highlighting cursers. So maybe it is best to be said when you say click on the inner knob.......... mouse left click or right click. And the mouse rolling wheel.
Ok, found your video on the light aircraft GPS. Issue - air craft engine running, GPS goes through its start up routine, inputting the flight plan. Then all of a sudden after 2-3mins the whole GPS shuts down/black screen. Aircraft engine still running, avionics selected on etc. Is there an off button the the GPS as well as the avionics master switch? I don't see one. Is it a bug?
Hi there can someone make a video of the 310 why dose the gas not sync with the Xbox controller or even the altitude shortcut bottn I have for the altitude change when in autopilot
it looks a bit old school graphics & mine crafty on the screen but much simpler than the G-1000! I wonder why they don't call that the G-K or G-G for grand or kilo
@@jonbeckett oh I thought I recognised the look from windows 98 or ce thanks im not knocking it it still ahead of its time I think ive got a Microsoft 98 sim in the back room somewhere with an air wars game and a compac Preserio desktop

@@jonbeckett Sorry, comment meant to be with Beaver. Where a controller keybinding caused grief, couldn’t turn off the starter. Anyway, appreciate all your hard work Jon creating these awesome RUclips videos !
Exactly the tutorial I was looking for as I use this in the A2A camanche but didn't really know how it functions. Thanks for posting
Same here
Without your channel I would be lost.
but most youtubers click on stuff too fast for us visual learners...I need repetition too
Thank you for this. It’s actually a brilliant tutorial for pilots in the real world to use the garmin 530.
Thank you! I just purchased the Embraer EMB 110 on summer sale and have never used the Garmin yet. This helped a lot
You are getting to be my go-to place on RUclips for learning anything about FS2020. You are very good at this. Thank you!
Wow, thanks!
@@jonbeckett but, a follow-up question: My World Map IFR flight plans are NOT being loaded into the 530 in the new DC-3. Any idea why?

This was very helpful and after your video I decided to download the whole GNS530 manual, freely available online, for a deeper knowledge
Same functionality in X-Plane and I use this IRL flying helicopters but your teaching is excellent and I learned things I never knew!
Well done!
Oh my word :) To be honest though - you probably know the *right* way to do things :)
Use the GNS530 everyday. Didn't know about the keyboard shortcut. Life is so much easier now!

Thank you prof! I learned with your very good tutorial how to create flightplan from scratch. Before I just know how to set direct to airport and approach !
One point: if you have an ILS approach in your flight plan the 530 will automatically switch from GPS to VLOC when you intercept the localizer
Never knew that!
and your NAV mode will then disengage, so be sure to stay alert and to re-engage it 🙂
Good summary Jon ! It's been a while since I used GSN430/530, improved heaps. That keyboard support is great !

hi. What flight planner you use for your MSFS in your video?
LittleNavMap
Hello, it is not possible for me to make entries via the keyboard. I fly the WB Sim Cessna 172 in MSFS
There is a GNS530 in the marketplace. If the WBSim Cessna is not updated, or not using the WT GNS 530, it's on WBSim to update it.

That's what missing last night in a group flight. Must install in FS2020 because it's much better than standard GNS520

wait, so is this stock in MSFS? the GNS530 in my sim is way less realistic than this one
This is stock MSFS. The GNS 530 has been updated several times.
How do you load the arrival?
I don't understand the question - do you mean the approach ? It's in the procedures section.
Do I need to load any additional software, like from PM50 or WT ?
No - this is the stock GNS530 in the sim.

Can we use airways in GNS 530?
No - the 530 does not support airways (just checked - I thought it did!)

how to insert airway
This is awesome, now if I just watch it over a few times...maybe it' ll sink in
"...which will make the copilot vanish."
Wait. You have a visible copilot? How?
The co-pilot isn't there in all aircraft - in the DHC-2 Beaver, they are visible :)
This is ridiculously over-complicated, if it's the same in Real-World. Why would anyone use so outdated interface?
Because it *is* outdated :)
Is this GPs a pop out?
Move it to another monitor?
Thanks!
I think you can.
