Thanks I've been flying for 38 years. I fly for airlines, was very active CFI/II/ME early in my career, but all my past GA experience was with steam gauges or other GPS (portable GPS, or non Garmin GPS, e.g., Dynon, Grand Rapids Tech,... or airline avionics). I have avoided Garmin 430 because I owned a plane without one or flew airlines. I am checking out in a GA plane tomorrow with Garmin 430W.... I have not used a Garmin 430 ever! However I had some early Garmin Portiables with similar menu philosophy. I needed a really basic refresher. THANK YOU! This was a huge help. Very easy to follow, proper terminology, focused on basics plus overview touching on other functions to be covered later. Thumbs up & subscribed. Very helpful. Well done. Cheers.
@jonbeckett I appreciate the warning. I researched and watched other videos, one by Garmin (albeit over 12 yrs agp). It was terrible. Yours was the best. For how to use for instrument approaches and missed approaches there are some critical steps, but you did not cover that. However if you do I am sure it will be great. Like all things the PIC has sole responsibility for safety and legality. Also simulators are used extensively in aviation and great training aids. Thanks again.
This is what I needed cause everytimg MSN updates something I have to re learn everything again especially like this GNS430 so what better way is to watch an educational video like this Thank You.
Excellent Jon ! Just what I needed to know. Took DC6 out for a flight, GNS430 was purely guessing work. Normally I fly radios only with DC6, just wanted to test today. By the way, DC6 works fine now with the latest upgrade a couple of days ago.
Can I suggest taking us on a flight with every button and switch touched, slowly show us for us complete boobs! Im slow to pick up on the navigation but love the idea of learning. Thanks.

Cheers :) Remember I'm not a real pilot! Just sharing what I've learned along the way.

You're welcome :)
It’s worth noting that 3rd party planes still need the Marketplace version. AAU1 only updates the GNS430/530 in default planes.
Ahhh thanks man :-) good info
AAU1?
Aircraft and Avionics Update 1.
Brilliant, thank you Jonathan.
You're welcome :)
Good tutorial! Glad we can type in a waypoint. It’s tough using the knobs in turbulence
It really is - I love the keyboard integration.

Glad it helped

Der Arbeitstitel-Mod ist jetzt in den Simulator integriert.
One thing confusing is how there are so many names for the Page Grouping Headers. What does Garmin call them?
Groups. Years ago people called them Chapters.
I can only find the DA40 & DA62 and no diamond 42 !!
I think the selection of aircraft differs between the versions of MSFS (basic, premium, etc)

great job, Jonathan... k?
Cheers!
yeah? yeah? yeah? Please stop that
What are the differences between the GNS430 and the 530 ? Just a larger format/screen ?
