Perfect timing! Just jumped into the Beaver and while I have used the 430/530 in the distant past I was in need of a refresher - having flown mostly with the GTN 750 or G1000 units. Great video and thanks.
Oops, I forgot that the new DHC-2 Beaver also has the 430/530. It is one of the new free planes included in Sim Update 11. Thanks for pointing it out, Art G. Edit: Also found out that the DC-3 has 3 liveries labelled "retrofit" that have the 530, 430, and a KAP 140 installed!
I found out about this from RealSim Gear as the CDI button is inop with the basic Asobo. Installed the Working Title and everything works and is much clearer in VR.
Regarding keyboard entry the dev notes state this: "Configuring the GNS for support of hardware keyboard input: The update GNS430/530 supports using a user’s keyboard/mouse to input waypoint idents in the waypoint or direct to screens. This is activated by a user clicking with their mouse on a keyboard icon on the entry line, but requires that the screen allow for and capture mouse clicks." So it has to be enabled by the plane developer. In the Bonanza for example this works.
I guess the developer of the AN-2 hasn't enabled it yet. Also, I suppose this is why I couldn't pop it out either into a separate window using this plane.
'Upgraded' the 530 in my analog Caravan when this was released and loving it (and I was using the PMS530 since it's initial release)!! I've been wondering how the heck to turn on the traffic and now I know. Thanks Kip!

Great videos on the WT 530 and 430. I do find it odd that, as you pointed out, the 530 and 430 do not bring in all points along an airway but it can handle brining in all the points for Approaches so it does seem like it should be capable of doing it for airways 😕
Buddy, are being sponsored by Working Title? Great video! Also did I see a keyboard icon when you changed the WPT info to KSFO? That's an awesome quality of life change there!
I'll have to hold on this as it interferes with the GTN 750. I'll stay with the PMS mod for now. They'll work it out in time. As always, excellent video.
@sp1878 Good question. I really don't know. I"ve always had the mod. I really never use it much as I use the dropdown menu GTN 750. Once complete, I'm sure, the Working Title 530 will be superior.
Dear friend ! I've tested and it was like you said, retrofit livery will load GNS 430/530 and classic will give you the old fashioned navigation instruments. So easy when you know the answer :)
The only thing I've miss on the 530 is be able to select a waypoint on the flightplan and click enter to view its information. For example, select the airport destination on the flightplan, click enter and jump into waypoint page. Right now you have to type the icao to access to the info.
I've seen some people ask about it on the WT discord server, and I'll ask about it too. They'll do whatever mimics the actual 530/430, and I hope that's a real feature too!
I have an issue when entering the destination with the keyboard entry mode with velocity one… after entering a destination I hit enter and it decreases the flaps, turns the yoke left, as well as left rudder. I’ve checked all control settings and all is good…and am stumped.
Great video. I fly the Cessna 172 WBsim which is a third party mod that elevates the 172 experience to close to study level. However, the new 430/530 mod doesn’t appear to be avail in WBsim. I am forced to choose between study level 172 or study level 430/530 😢
I have to mention that the display of the Cessna 140 from Aeroplaneheaven, when using this, remains black. As I love this plane I removed that Garmin for the time being.
So is the VNAV just for calculation and awareness? Or is there a way to have an actual VNAV profile and link it to the autopilot so it follows the profile automatically? Thanks!
While full tutorials are appreciated and useful, one focusing on just the differences between default and the Working Title version would be highly useful.
I probably won't make a video comparing it against what's going to inevitably no longer be in the simulator (the default 530), but there are major differences. The default doesn't have terrain maps, traffic maps, the VNAV, screen AUX/configuration screens, or support for RNAV GPS approaches just to name a few. The default 530/430 received maybe 1 update I can think of in 2 years (the enabling of OBS mode), whereas the WT version will be updated regularly until it matches the real unit as close as possible. Ultimately we can expect the WT version to become the new default in the sim, just like the WT G1000 NXi did.
Hi Ronnie, yesterday a new update was released but it seems to me that the "1-2" button of the EFIS control panel still does not switch vor 1 with vor 2 and vice versa ... I would like your opinion ... thanks
Another great video - many thanks, Kip! Quick question: The "NEAREST" feature is great and I especially like that you can just highlight a frequency, for example, press "ENT" and the 430/530 begins using that frequency. Similarly with "Direct To" on an airport or VOR. Is there no way to use the NEAREST list to pick waypoints for your flight plan? Seems you could just highlight, press MENU, then "add to flight plan". Am I missing something? Manually entering every airport and waypoint seems to be an unnecessary annoyance. Thanks in advance for any insights.
No, you can't use the ENT key to add waypoints to a flight plan. In practice, I think it wouldn't be that time-saving anyway. You'd need to bounce back and forth between the NRST page group and hope that the waypoints you needed were in range and shown in the list. It's pretty quick to enter waypoints once you get the hang of using the knobs. If you have a keyboard, I'd highly recommend getting used to the keyboard entry feature in the WT avionics -- it's a huge time saver. If you have a mouse, I'd turn knobs exclusively with your mouse wheel, and if you hold SHIFT while turning the knob, it turns them 2 characters at a time instead of 1, which can also make you more efficient. Hope that helps!
@@KipOnTheGround Thanks, Kip. Sorry I forgot to mention - like many of your other subscribers, I'm working on my real world private pilot license, so I usually use MSFS with as few simulator shortcuts as possible. I've been studying your material on the GNS 430/530 because our flying club is upgrading our Cessna 150 with the 430, and I feel fully prepared after studying videos like these and taking MSFS practice flights. Thanks again for the tips. I'm getting fast with the knobs, and you're right - switching pages would probably be slower.
Can you select an airport from NRST, then hit direct to without having to spin it in as a waypoint? I swear I used to be able to do that on the 430 in the Pipistrel...
Well have I got news for you -- it is! Check out the progress they've shared on their Discord server here (#progress channel): discord.com/invite/Fa6w2xK Edit: Ohh you said "first" :-) Maybe you were already aware they've been working on the G3000/G5000. Haha.
@@KipOnTheGround Yup haha, I was aware thanks to you mentioning it in a previous vid I think :3 I should clarify that I was meaning bringing a free early access version to the in sim marketplace with Xbox compatibility as that is where I prefer to play it :P
Hi Ronnie, I would ask you if is it possible directly to transfer an airport from the NST APT page to the FPL using DirectTo button....I Tried without success...thanks in advance
Hey Kip. Just wanted to let you know we just installed the GNS 430 in our REAL C150 and thanks to your videos, I showed up day 1 already comfortable with the unit and ready to fly. We'll be doing some practice IFR approaches with it this week. Many thanks as always. Quick unrelated question: In MSFS, I usually fly the same 2-3 planes over and over (C152, 172, 182), in line with my real world instruction. If I wanted to get familiar with some of the more complicated aircraft in MSFS, what's the best source for an intro walkthrough of those planes? Just curious - right now they look very intimidating and I don't know where to start.
I am coming at this as a [now former] user of the PMS 530 variant, which has much less functionality. So thanks very much for this instructive video. My one issue is that in the PMS version, to fly via GPS to my destination airport of choice, I would simply input my destination airport code into the first waypoint page and then hit the direct to button. If I do this in the WT 530 all I get is a blank window asking me for the direct to co-ordinates. I can't believe that the same info has to be input twice so what am I doing wrong here. Or, have I just fallen foul of a bug? I hope perhaps you will do a further video on the new WT 530 that covers this and other functionality. Regards. I should add that I fly exclusively the Carenado C337 Skymaster II. Which in all aspects appears to be completely compatible - even the keyboard input select works!
Something important to know about using autopilot with it is NAV mode will not activate until you're close to your intended course. Use HDG mode to put yourself on a course to intercept your first leg, and press NAV as well so it's armed (on standby). Once you get close enough to the course, it will automatically activate NAV mode. I'll point this out in a future 530/430 video.
Unfotunately it does have problems with the 414. For example it will happily fly an ils approach but will not work with a vor - the NAV mode will not engage. I have had to delete and use the default 530 for now which works fine.I think WT are aware of this and hopefully will sort it on a future update.
Well explained my friend ! Question for you..if I decide installing the new GNS430/530 from FS2020, shall I disable PMS50-gns530 ? Just thinking if there will be a conflict ? I'm using MSFS Addons Linker, so it's convenient to disable. Thx for sharing your knowledge, helps me a lot !
Yeah, the classic/steam C172 is still part of Deluxe, but I'd recommend checking out the Beaver and the Turbo Porter -- they're both available for everyone (I forgot the Beaver in my video). The Beaver has an AP too, so that'd be my preference I think :-)
Excellent video, thank you very much. However I still have a problem, every time I recieve a msg saying something like “course is not correct’” do you know how to solve it?
When i flew in my old cessna in the real life, there is a knob in the obs (No Garmin’s or gremlins😂, no glass cockpit at these time) in which you can adjust the course. What happens now? I see the small plane in the garmin 530 following the planned route aiming with the wings no with the nose
Great tutorial! One of the best I have seen on the GNS530! Just one thing I have in MSFS2020, I get NO GPS POSITION on the Working title 530/430 in yellow capitals on the screen of the unit. What am I doing wrong?
I've seen that once but it went away on its own for me. You could check the satellite status screen (NAV page group, Page number 5) to see if that reveals anything related to satellite strength. If it happens to you often in a specific plane and/or scenario (e.g. loading in on the runway directly, but not loading at a parking spot cold and dark) then it's worth letting the Working Title team know about it either on the forum or their Discord. Here are those links: MSFS Forum: forums.flightsimulator.com/t/garmin-gns430w-and-gns530w-issues-and-support/555536 WT Discord: discord.com/invite/Fa6w2xK
Yes. The Working Title mod is much more developed and we can expect it to become the default in MSFS like the G1000 NXi did. I don't see myself using the PMS mod anymore, but it was nice to use up until this point!
I own the the RSG 430 and 530 and they both work well with MSFS. The only thing that hasn't worked with the RSG is the "press and hold CLR" shortcut, but the rest is great.
Unfortunately not. But if you want to add custom lat/long waypoints, you can do it in the world map by entering the coordinates into the search box, or by just clicking anywhere on the map to make a custom waypoint. Those waypoints will be included in the pre-programmed flight plan on the Garmin once you load in.
@@KipOnTheGround thank you my friend! Good tip. Because, here in Brazil, we fly trough so many visual corridors and we need to create waypoints (visual checkpoints) that does not exist in IFR charts.
Was wondering if anyone knows how to put G430 into a C172 or C152? I am using my flight sim for IFR training and it would really help if I could have it in the exact plane that I train in
You may be encountering the new NAV mode arming criteria/rules. I just included an explanation of it in my latest video here: ruclips.net/video/G7ylFfeKSw0/видео.html You need to fly closer to your intended course before NAV mode will activate.
Hi !! very interesting video ...I am an XBOX user and installed the new version yersteday ....but the 430 remain on the "ok?" prompt flashing although I push "ent" button.....any suggestions ? Thanks in advance
Which plane are you flying? If it's a third-party plane from the Marketplace, then it may not yet be fully compatible with the WT 530/430. Some developers need to make updates for their planes so they're compatible -- but I don't have an exact list of which planes aren't working yet.
Do you know how to uninstall GNS 430/530 ? I tried through the Content Manager + reboot, still appears in DC3. I reinstalled DC3 from Content Manager + reboot, still appearing in DC3.
Hey Ronnie, I found some info about it in this thread on the MSFS forums: forums.flightsimulator.com/t/official-discussion-the-1935-douglas-dc-3/554979 People say that the whether or not it has the Garmin is based on the livery (if the livery says "classic", it won't have the GPS, if it says "retrofit" then it will). Whether you have the Working Title 430/530 doesn't make a difference, as that just changes which software the 430/530 runs. Hope that helps!
@@KipOnTheGround That’s good to know. Just the add-on destroyed the DC3 retro look. I started a complete FS2020 restore from backups, hopefully gone by the time I get home :)
Been wondering when you were going to get to this! 2 quick questions, does the OBS button work and is it going to include visual approaches? Thank you.
@@mattnischan582 I figured as much, that's why I rarely fly planes with that unit and will certainly never buy one. Sometimes you gotta think about "gameplay" as opposed to just realism. How does the OBS system work? Unless I missed it in the video! Thank you.
@@mattnischan582 You could just have an option whether to have visual approaches included or not. Then those of us who need them can turn them on, and those of us who want a unit that resembles the real thing as close as possible can leave them off.
@@KipOnTheGround If there was an award on YT for slick vids I would vote for you my friend! I Your vids are to the point and neatly done with slick graphics. Its always a pleasure to watch you. a Pro you are. 👍
You need the Deluxe (or Deluxe+Premium) upgrade in the Marketplace. The steam gauge 172 with the 430 and 530 is one of the 5 planes in the Deluxe edition.
I couldn’t get the NAV mode to work on the Mooney ovation with this update. I’ll have to try other planes to see if this is an issue. Anybody have any NAV mode issues?
Assuming you're navigating with GPS, is the NAV source on the GNS set to "GPS" (and not "VLOC") in the bottom left corner? If it's on VLOC, press the CDI button to switch to to GPS. If that doesn't work, I can test with my Mooney to see if I can reproduce the problem.
I just tested it, and although the AP in the Mooney confuses me a bit since it doesn't have any annunciations on the AP unit itself, I was able to get it working. You may be running into NAV logic that wasn't in the old GNS. You need to fly close to the intended course before GPS mode will activate. I usually use HDG mode to fly myself towards the current leg, and then arm NAV mode as well (so on the Mooney annuciations it will say "GPS WPT ARM"), and then once you get close enough, it should auto-capture NAV mode and show "GPS WPT ACTV".
The runway numbers that are pre determined for KLGB and KONT for example (I’m sure there are more) are incorrect for the Mooney as well as the Cessna 172 with this update. I think it’s the update in general. Where can I report it? Thanks
It's early access (beta) so it will have bugs that will be fixed regularly. If the bugs are too annoying for you right now, you can uninstall it in Profile / Content Manager within the sim. It will get better and better over time, though!
OMFG, why even bother learning something that's only half-modeled in the sim? There are so many things modeled incorrectly and/or not at all that devoting time learn to use it is futile. Nothing Asobo gives you for free is anything but pure crap.

I've got the 530 and 430 from them and It's definitely a nice update.
Excellent video and explanation! Thank you !
Excellent simple explanation of how to use the 530
Regarding keyboard entry the dev notes state this:
"Configuring the GNS for support of hardware keyboard input:
The update GNS430/530 supports using a user’s keyboard/mouse to input waypoint idents in the
waypoint or direct to screens. This is activated by a user clicking with their mouse on a keyboard icon on
the entry line, but requires that the screen allow for and capture mouse clicks."
So it has to be enabled by the plane developer. In the Bonanza for example this works.
I guess the developer of the AN-2 hasn't enabled it yet. Also, I suppose this is why I couldn't pop it out either into a separate window using this plane.
Just want to thank you for this amazing explanation! Really struggling with setting it up in MSF and you did an awesome job explaining it.

Yeah, the classic/steam C172 is still part of Deluxe, but I'd recommend checking out the Beaver and the Turbo Porter -- they're both available for everyone (I forgot the Beaver in my video). The Beaver has an AP too, so that'd be my preference I think :-)
gns 430 not working in carenado pc12
Excellent video, thank you very much. However I still have a problem, every time I recieve a msg saying something like “course is not correct’” do you know how to solve it?
When i flew in my old cessna in the real life, there is a knob in the obs (No Garmin’s or gremlins😂, no glass cockpit at these time) in which you can adjust the course. What happens now? I see the small plane in the garmin 530 following the planned route aiming with the wings no with the nose
No DIRECT TO button functionality?? Pressing the button does nothing for me.
Here are those links:
MSFS Forum: forums.flightsimulator.com/t/garmin-gns430w-and-gns530w-issues-and-support/555536
WT Discord: discord.com/invite/Fa6w2xK
Ok will check if that makes a difference.
The Virus Pipistrel doesn't seem to use the 430/530.
Awesome video....thx 👍😎
great show you always stair us in the right direction I have the PMS50 GNS 530 MOD should I replace it the the 530 working title ? which is better
Yes. The Working Title mod is much more developed and we can expect it to become the default in MSFS like the G1000 NXi did. I don't see myself using the PMS mod anymore, but it was nice to use up until this point!
@@KipOnTheGround thank you the working mod has a lot more.... I cant find the setting for wind direction indicator any thoughts
Wind isn’t implemented yet in the WT version, I’m sure we can expect it in an update. What does work though are approaches of almost any type :-)
@@KipOnTheGround thank you keep us all flying nice
Do you know anything about the RealSimGear hardware for this?
I own the the RSG 430 and 530 and they both work well with MSFS. The only thing that hasn't worked with the RSG is the "press and hold CLR" shortcut, but the rest is great.
It`s possible to create a user waypoint?
Unfortunately not. But if you want to add custom lat/long waypoints, you can do it in the world map by entering the coordinates into the search box, or by just clicking anywhere on the map to make a custom waypoint. Those waypoints will be included in the pre-programmed flight plan on the Garmin once you load in.
@@KipOnTheGround thank you my friend! Good tip. Because, here in Brazil, we fly trough so many visual corridors and we need to create waypoints (visual checkpoints) that does not exist in IFR charts.
Good video thank you
Was wondering if anyone knows how to put G430 into a C172 or C152? I am using my flight sim for IFR training and it would really help if I could have it in the exact plane that I train in
The 172 with the 530/430 is part of the MSFS deluxe upgrade. You can find it in the marketplace.
ahhhhh Preciate it man@@KipOnTheGround
Anyone tried it with the Black Square King Air? I get several bugs with NAV mode, FP and following flight plans.
You may be encountering the new NAV mode arming criteria/rules. I just included an explanation of it in my latest video here: ruclips.net/video/G7ylFfeKSw0/видео.html
You need to fly closer to your intended course before NAV mode will activate.
Thank you!
Hi !! very interesting video ...I am an XBOX user and installed the new version yersteday ....but the 430 remain on the "ok?" prompt flashing although I push "ent" button.....any suggestions ? Thanks in advance
Which plane are you flying? If it's a third-party plane from the Marketplace, then it may not yet be fully compatible with the WT 530/430. Some developers need to make updates for their planes so they're compatible -- but I don't have an exact list of which planes aren't working yet.
Amazing!
Awesome!!!
Do you know how to uninstall GNS 430/530 ? I tried through the Content Manager + reboot, still appears in DC3. I reinstalled DC3 from Content Manager + reboot, still appearing in DC3.
Hey Ronnie, I found some info about it in this thread on the MSFS forums: forums.flightsimulator.com/t/official-discussion-the-1935-douglas-dc-3/554979
People say that the whether or not it has the Garmin is based on the livery (if the livery says "classic", it won't have the GPS, if it says "retrofit" then it will).
Thank you.
As quickly as I could! It was just released yesterday :-)
Visual approaches are not a feature of the real GNS units so we will not be including that feature either. OBS is supported.
And the PMDG DC-6
how can i put the garmin 430 on a cessna 172?
@@KipOnTheGround it was in GPS not VLOC I’m sure of that
I just tested it, and although the AP in the Mooney confuses me a bit since it doesn't have any annunciations on the AP unit itself, I was able to get it working.
@@KipOnTheGround thanks! I’ll try that out today!
The runway numbers that are pre determined for KLGB and KONT for example (I’m sure there are more) are incorrect for the Mooney as well as the Cessna 172 with this update. I think it’s the update in general. Where can I report it? Thanks
very good
clear tutorial
WHY has it come with bugs?
It's early access (beta) so it will have bugs that will be fixed regularly. If the bugs are too annoying for you right now, you can uninstall it in Profile / Content Manager within the sim. It will get better and better over time, though!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
aw yeah first one here :)
OMFG, why even bother learning something that's only half-modeled in the sim? There are so many things modeled incorrectly and/or not at all that devoting time learn to use it is futile. Nothing Asobo gives you for free is anything but pure crap.
Absolutely brilliant! Thank you for a great tutorial!!
Great explanation. Thanks.
Excellent tutorial, thanks!
