  • Hello flight simmers and welcome back to Alpha Hotel Flight Simulator Training.
This video is part 2 in a 2 part series taking an in-depth look at the Working Title Garmin GNS 530 & 430 GPS receivers. In the first video, we covered the basic controls of the units, as well as the displays and some back functions like direct-to navigation, and creating a flight plan.
In this video, we'll explore advanced features such as VNAV and how to customize your GNS 530 and 430.

Very helpful. I have been doing trial and error learning on the GNS for far too long. This is very thorough and detailed. Great!

@barrymackay2274 - trial and error learning can work, but tends to be less efficient. 😄 Glad you've found the content to be a more efficient way to learn the GNS 530 & 430. Thanks for the kind words, and thanks for watching!

These videos are great, I've just finished with second part after watching part 1. I've seen some IRL pictures of the 530 displaying also a live wind vector on the default NAV page right above the bottom right data field. I don't think it's possible, but I'll ask anyway... :D Is there any way to show this information in sim, just as in G1000 or G3000? Thank you!

@FidoVsetin, as far as I know, you can't display that on the 430 or 530 - at least not in the sim. (I seem to remember seeing some pictures like that as well. I know PMS50 made a mod for the GNS 530/430 early on that added a number of features - some of which were not on the RL unit - so it's possible the pictures came from that mod?)
Glad you've enjoyed the content. Thanks for watching!

Could be remembering incorrectly, and I don’t have the sim working. I think there is a option on map page 1, with the customise option of data fields to show something about the vnav. So you could have that information on display, so you know when to start your descent.

@allanprewett4429, That's correct - but all it shows you is the distance until you start your descent. Once you start down, it doesn't give you any guidance to stay on the VNAV path. (I think there's also a field that displays rate of descent needed to hit the descent point from your current altitude and position, but again, no actual vertical guidance.)

oK this might be a real stupid question but how do you change the option in MSFS to turn control dial controls. Mine wants me to HOLD down the right mouse button it then highlights yellow and while holding then using the middle mouse wheel to turn the dial. It is extremely touchy and in watching your videos I see you get a turn arrow icon which I don't get. It seems like all you do is put the pointer on the dial and turn the wheeL?

You need to switch to legacy control mode in the msfs settings

31:22 Is it possible to create a custom waypoint? I have an A2A Comanche250 for MSFS with GNS530 by Working Title, but I can't create a custom waypoint in GNS530. I don't know English so I didn't understand the story. Thanks.

@user-jd4yy1on6y, the custom waypoint page is present on the receiver, but it does not appear to be functioning correctly at this time.
