I'm not far from scheduling my Instrument checkride. I come from the steam gauge age and the one piece of equipment that I'm not as familiar with as I want to be is the Garmin 430. I've watched this 5 or 6 times (one was probably enough) and it's been very helpful. Imagine flying without a GPS or Foreflight :) This video is 3 years old and I was wondering how far the young lady went with her flight training.
Just doing instrument training and your video is very helpful, clear to the point and great camera perspective to get it, thanks a lot for your great work!
Great video, very clear, one question though, when you set the CDI button to GPS on the 430, the TO/FROM indicator on the HSI shows the location of the next waypoint or the frequency selected?
When you switch from a frequency-based navigation (VLOC) to a GPS based navigation, the “TO/FROM indication is based on GPS not the frequency. So…if you were using VLOC to get to a VOR then change to GPS mode, your CDI will navigate to the waypoint input for GPS. If you were using GPS to get to the same VOR, the CDI would indicate that. If you were using two different navigation modes at the same time (not a bad idea), just use NAV 1 and NAV 2 (one for VLOC and one for GPS). Bottom line, GPS mode will not navigate to a frequency selected, only to a waypoint.
Now tell me everything you know after my words "Ok"....I was just running IFR in a Cessna 337 and couldnt find my way out of the radio wet bag to save my life! Fortunately, it was in MFS2020 sim
Handy stuff, except Nav page 5 shows track (matches the TRK figure directly below), not heading ... so synching HSI Magnetic Heading to track isn't a good idea.
Thanks for this video, I now know I definitely don’t want to fly IFR with this unit. I can’t imagine doing all the multitude of senseless steps to get anything done all while trying to maintain heading, altitude, flying the airplane, talking to approach. No thanks
Any touchscreen Garmin such as GNS175 or 650 or 750, you just type in the touchscreen, none of that nonsense with the knob to type an airport or waypoint.
Second visit to hear this lesson....walk away, have a coffee, come back.....??????? Oh man, I hope the young lady is smarter then me. Sigh.... (Actually, here's the link, and the Garmin tutorial is actually above this lovely young ladies video and her! Its here:ruclips.net/video/zofn3skychQ/видео.html
This is such a good quick summary. As someone else said, most concise and clear short 430 video I've seen.
Everything you need to know for a checkride, nothing you don’t. Like the condensed version. Good stuff. Many thanks.
thank you John we appreciate it!
adding my complements this is the best GPS 430 out there, well done Sir!
Best GNS 430 I’ve found! Thank you for posting 🎉
I’ve watched many GNS 430 videos - this is the best yet of any one I’ve seen under 30 minutes - good job!
I’m totally agree with you. Everything was practical and super well explained by the instructor.
I like this instructor. I am going on a hunch he is prior military. Great video!

Noting the direct, direct, enter, enter to hold. What happens when you exit the hold? Does it sequence the approach? Thank you for the video.

Great simple instruction.
The best affordable flying is buy a Flight Simulater save a lot of air time . When ready take lessions you will solo in a very short time.10/9/2022yr

Instructions for a 25 yr old gps antique
Just saved about 1,500 dollars lol rather than learning this while trying to hold alt, hdg, airspeed in the air
