Just to add info: the 700W PSU can support up to 150W per 6 Pin cable. Is an specification from HP enterprise to support back in the Days a high end Quadro + a Tesla GPU accelerator. Each 6 pin cable can support up to 225W GPU (150W cable + 75W PCIe) I tested myself with up to one RTX 3070 + a Quado K6000 installed simultaneusly and running 100% usage. You just need to get a good quality 6 Pin to 8 PIn adapter and very important, do no get the cheapest one, it may not support the current coming from the 6 pin cable. I hope it helps :)

@@RickTech0 It gets 60fps at 1080p for most games, usually on medium. It can definitely get 144fps on lighter esports games like Fortnite and Rocket League. Just make sure you don't skimp out on the CPU or you'll get bad stutters and frame drops.
I purchased a z640 and z840 for a home lab but also purchased a crap ton of E5 2600 V4 of various models to bench mark. The findings are interesting. I will say that if you are using more than 8 cores, try turning off hyper threading.
The 6 pin PCIe power cables are over spec compared to standard pcie 6 pin connectors and each one in the z440 with 700W PSU is rated at 18A (you can see it on a sticker on the other side if you remove the PSU). This means each one is rated to 216W and hp actually sold adapter cables to use 8 pin PCIe cards. I'm running an RX 580 off of a single one in my z440 with no issues at all
Don't forget - Haswell chips have a bug where you can patch the BIOS to gain all-core turbo boost, which makes a huge difference for gaming. You can look into X99 turbo boost.

Literally got an Sapphire nitro+ rx 470 for less than that. Still paid 132 with shipping and tax but somewhere in my mind I knew things would only get worse. Happy with my GPU and now looking at ebay again those same RX 470 cards I saw for 120-140 are going for 170-220...
I bought z440 9 months ago with the 1650v4 which is a i7 8700. I paid $330 and basically stole it it even had 6 months left of warranty. I'm running an rtx 3080 in it now. The case is awesome it has the optional ram coolers and optional gpu cooler.
Build is even cheaper now. Didnt use the higher end z440 as i was trying to keep the build under $200 to be used as the heart for a high end arcade cabinet. HP z400 with the 3.5 ghz xeon w3565, 475 watt PSU, and 18 gb of ram for 80 bucks used. Had a unused firecudda 1tb drive laying around and picked up at gtx 1070 for 90 bucks. Machine is going to be sweet to play all the newer and old fighter games.
This Pc should be revisited the prices for this system has gone down a lot since this video was made. As someone who uses this system as their rig because of the Toasty Bros I'd say another video for this Pc is needed.

If you guys want a good cpu cooler for 15$ the snowman cooler off AliExpress is a really good option I've been using it in my system for close to 8 months and had no problem and it's around the same thermals as the hyper 212
You can use a 6 pin to 8 pin power safely. The other 2 pins are only grounds. I've never had a problem with doing this. Also you could probably build this "new" for cheaper (with a nice gaming case). X99 board (bios modifiable, X99 is very popular) this CPU (or better) + 16GB RAM + good CPU cooler goes for about $150 on AliExpress. You'll get easy all core turbo boost unlock on these for even better gaming performance (3.3 on all cores due to an exploit in the BIOS). It's really a great platform to slap an RX470/480/570/580 in and get gaming for sub $500.
You absolutely can build it better and cheaper. This is an ok option for beginners. As it stands I have the 1650 V1 in a Z420 V1 and using Tstop and raising all cores to 63 nets me 3.5 on all cores. I still laugh at that. My son uses it for minecraft and fortnite paired with a 1070 for over a 100 fps on each

These are proper workstations with a good PSU (usually minimum 450-500W - 80+ Bronze), so that you can safely choose the kind of GPU you can ACTUALLY get your hands on. These Xeons draw more power, but are pretty damn strong too (and you can UEFI patch the bios to unlock all-core turbo boost).
Our advertisement says it's a 440 but it's actually a 420.It has a 4c/8t cpu clocked to 3.5ghz,16gb ddr 3 ram and a quadro k2200.Problem is it's the almost the same price as my r5 2600 new.If you already have an old pc with most of the parts.You can actually buy an upgrade kit,mobo,ram and cpu for half the price. Btw i saw that gpu mounting error before it happened.There's 2 mistakes even veteran makes.That's forget to remove correct slot plate and forget to install the I/O shield 😁

Hey Z440 users, I am planning to buy this Z440 machine with 1650 v4. I am skeptical about the two things: 1) Is it safe to use dual-6-pin to single-8-pin connector to power the gpu. (I am planning to pair rather rx 580 or 1660 super) 2) Second, do I need to bypass any boot loading method for a nvme m.2 ssd or will it run naturally as plug and play. Please someone guide me with this.
@@BREEZYM6015 FX8320 is a really bad cpu almost bankrupted AMD, they can compete with a I7-2600K in multi threading performance but because they are "8 cores" single thread performance is basically half :) They are no match for this generation of xeons.

I know this is an old video but this HpDragonballZ440 does nor perform as well as my HpDragonballz420. I'm using the E5-1650 v1 and they are using a V2. On top of mine being a V1 Z420. I wonder if it's because I'm using a G1 gaming 1070 ?
Don't believe the hype! I have case swapped two of these workstations this year. The power is proprietary, but they make adapters for this all day. I recommend using one of these for gaming...they are very powerful machines.
G'day Toasty's, Really love the content, as you do many of these 'Buy a PreBuilt & Upgrade' videos it would be good if you could do a Tutorial for these types of builds that includes: -If you want to keep the existing W10 install, How to Uninstall a GPU Properly before installing a New GPU, -how to Migrate W10 to a SSD from a Hard Drive, as there may be stuff you want to keep already on the PC if you can't afford the SSD straight away, -How to access Program Product Keys for programs like MS Office so if you do a Fresh Install you can Reactivate those programs, because there are many people who use their PC for School or Uni & not all programs are like Steam or Epic where you just log in on a webpage
