  • ARCH gen 3 ballistic helmet is made by Protection Group Denmark and uses aramid fibers as the main ballistic material. The helmet is approved for NIJ 0106.01 level 3A and additionally to V50 ballistic test according to STANAG2920.
    The manufacturer claims that this helmet reduces 9mm back face deformation by 50% (HPW-TP-0401.01B IIIA)
    We sell these helmets but we never really understood what these fancy designations mean in practice... until we tested one. As you can see from the video, the performance of this ballistic helmet surpassed all our expectations.

    Let's be honest here, there is slight difference between "it stops .50AE" and "it would protect the wearer from .50AE".
    I was impressed that it ate a 7.62x25 round with apparently no problem, usually it's expected its higher velocity and smaller diameter would defeat 3A.

      really depends on the type of 7.62x25 used, there are light loads that make it slower and there hot loads that make it go fast pottentially increasing range and penetration. Can go from 1200ft/s (376m/s) to loads up to almost 1600ft/s (497m/s). I couldn't find which ammo type was used in PPSH during WW2 by the soviets but they had whole companies equipped only with PPSH SMGs for suppression, covering flanks, covering front, etc (battel order at 7:51 in ruclips.net/video/jSiTohahL7k/видео.html)

    • @czwarty7878

      @@the7observer yeah the penetration power of 7.62x25 is kinda a meme at this point and rather overrated. I think only the czech steel core +P would actually have chance to penetrate IIIA. Standard 7.62 TT is definitely not more powerful than .357 SIG.
      About PPSh Avtomatchiki units, I heard they did have separate ammo for TT pistols and PPSh-s, supposedly with steel core and more power for SMG, but what is actual energy and penetration of these is very hard to find.

    • @PolenarTactical
      @PolenarTactical  Год назад +22

      Not stupid at all. Shelf life depends on the material and storage conditions. What you usually see stated by the manufacturer 5-10 years is only their guarantee.
      Most ballistic materials like kevlar and UHMWPE are super stable and resistant to oxidation and a lot of chenicals. Bonding agents can be more sensitive to temperature, UV, chemicals and outside force.
      There were certain ballistic materials like spectra and goldflex that deteriorate with moisture and continuous use.
      But for most ballistic material the shelf life in a dry space with no direct UV light is almost unlimited. There were tests done on 30 year old kevlar vests that still worked

    • @PolenarTactical
      @PolenarTactical  Год назад +4

      @@RCZM64 Aramid fibers like Kevlar are super resistant and do not expire by itself. But there was a new material similar to Spectra, i think it was Z-shield or something like that, that was quite sensitive to moisture and temperature degradation. It was produced by a reputable company but those ballistic vests degraded so much after years of use in police, that some officer died because it failed to stop the rounds.
      So it depends on the material, aramid fibers and good UHMWPE should be stable and last for many decades

    3:57 A foam head is more elastic than a real head, which gave the helmet more space to flex. On a real person's head it likely would've penetrated due to the reduced flexibility. I think comparing with a head made of wood or some other dense material would be interesting to see as well and how it compares to the foam one. I believe it was your channel which also demonstrated a Chinese impact-resistant (non-ballistic) face visor capable of defeating birdshot and you also surmised something similar that it was due to the flexibility of the visor. Same idea

    helmet weight was 1.45kg compared to OPS CORE's RF1 are 1.58kg(stop 7.62x39mm) , there are actually lighter than OPS one, but i wanna see the rifle round test on ARCH G3 to contradistinction who is the BOSS in the helmet (better weight better ballistic performent) but 426 eur price are actually beating the OPS CORE

    • @PolenarTactical
      @PolenarTactical  Год назад +1

      The weight of ARCH helmet is 1.35kg
      Hmm, i don't think it would stop a 7.62x39mm round despite .50 AE has more energy. The velocity and pointy bullet is better at penetration

    You were using the wrong 7.62x25, you were using modern 7.62x25 that has lower pressures and is slower if you want a real test use surplus steal 7.62x25 its a higher pressure and faster and that round will go right through the helmet... just clean your firearms after because the surplus ammo is corrosive...

    • @PolenarTactical
      @PolenarTactical  Год назад +1

      I was suprised with the 50AE but with the ammo use surplus ammo steal... Romanian or Bulgarian, just so you know it has a hard berdan primer so depending on your tokarev certain tokarevs had weak firing pins and were known to break but the round were known for penatraiting armor naturally and most body armor companies refuse to test with that round because its known for the penatration but the fact that the helmet company used it for there test says something about the company... just be sure if use test use the military steal round.
