  • @BlokeontheRange
    @BlokeontheRange Год назад +15

    Mine's one of the American ones with a Faxon barrel, and it's overgassed too, it's a function of the gas port size they use. My upper to lower fit is great, not wobbly. I had a couple of the early issues too - there's a batch of ambi mag releases that have slightly weak springs and will drop mags while you're firing. KE will replace them (I put a normal one in cos I'm not handicapped like Ian so have no need to press the button with the wrong hand). You can push the safety too far, then you get a dead trigger on some rifles, and the solution is to flick it back on and off again. Some of the PDQ bolt hold open levers will bounce and lock the bolt open when you don't want it. I put in a heavier spring, which fixed it, but then the automatic hold-open isn't reliable with P-Mags. But it's my baby and I love it, despite these few flaws 🥰

    • @CtrlAltRetreat
      @CtrlAltRetreat Год назад +1

      The fit on mine wasn't great so I put in an accuwedge and some dynema in the pin holes to tighten them up and remove the slop. I love the trigger but it the hammer spring is giving me light strikes when I use my 22kit for practice. Has been enough for 223 but yeah. Haven't had the issue with the safety but have had the issue with the mag catch. I'll have to call them up and get that replacement spring. The over gassing is terrible on mine and I get a lot of it back out of the ejection port which can make my eyes sting. I'll try the extra weight buffer rings suggested by another comment. Love the weight and ease of use. The safety throw on the ambi side not getting in the way of the trigger finger is nice and the balance is super nice. Going to need to resolve the minor issues but it's my favorite ar right now by far.

    • @spairus4492
      @spairus4492 Год назад

      Is it typical with other AR-15s to have such kinks out of the box? Is the WWSD average on that? or bad? or even better than most? (I'm from europe so I don't own rifles, only pistols are practical)

    • @CtrlAltRetreat
      @CtrlAltRetreat Год назад +1

      @@spairus4492
      The slop on mine is just a tiny bit worse than usual for a forged receiver, the safety issue is uncommon and I can't confirm it, no one I know had had it. The light hammer is probably a judgement call, it's plenty enough for the round it is designed for, I'm getting light strikes because I'm using it to drive a sub caliber conversion kit as well, so technically not for what it was designed for. The over gassing is also a judgement call as it increases reliability with crap ammo, they probably were most concerned about not having lots of failure to cycle among first customers. The mag catch spring thing is odd but it probably is a standard spring that might be a little light for people jamming full mags on a closed bolt. The issues are a result in decisions to ensure the parts will function in a situation where they don't know for sure how well each will fit with each other they're minor compared to the problems that would have resulted if they erred in the opposite direction so most would probably give them a pass. The result is what they advertised though. It's reliable under fire and incredibly light while being a pretty impressive value for the money at least a few years back, mines a wwsd2020, I'm not sure if they're priced as well over there. The major competitors in the ultra light space are the midwest industries builds which are diy to try to really match weight, or fostech which makes magnesium alloy based parts which while nice can be pricey. For a ready made option in the ultra light space, this is a relatively inexpensive option that happens to lead the pack in that one metric but has tuning issues for you to adjust to your liking.

    At 4:20, the issue you have with the rifle being over gassed can be very easily fixed by using a heavier buffer. A standard rifle length buffer is about 5 oz, a standard carbine buffer is about 3 oz. Because the WWSD uses a captive buffer spring, you need to replace 2 of the steel rings with tungsten versions to increase total weight to about 4 oz to smooth out the over gassed impulse.

    • @Soravia
      @Soravia Год назад +23

      Heavier buffer defeats the purpose of light weight rifle. Adjustable gas is correct answer. Only problem is most ppl don't know how to adjust well and end up malfunction on differing ammo loads.

      @lowkey1969 Год назад +2

      The wobble between upper and lower isn't really an issue in regard to function. Bugs me as well, but it doesn't affect reliability or accuracy. Ziga's solution is spot on.

    Colt ARs are/were notorious for having the same loose tolerances between the upper and lower, such that the rubber "take up" is more or less mandatory. In my experience, modern AR variants from Daniel Defense, BCM, etc. do not have this issue. Hopefully CZ can bring back better manufacturing standards to Colt.
    I second the recommendation to install an adjustable gas block.

      I will first shorten the barrel to 14" as that will reduce the dwell time. If it's still overgassed, i will install an adjustable gas block

      @@PolenarTactical What about just changing the buffer out for a heavier H2 buffer? I would think that would be an easier fix than changing out the barrel.

      Don't need a bayonet, adjustable gas block, bolt hold open, adjustable sights, better than 2 or 3 moa accuracy, better than mil spec trigger, 1-6x bdc optic. But guess what, I want all that plus a forward assist. And dam it all, I will have one!

    Barnes Precision Machine adjustable gas tube (click adjustable!). you have to make a little Dremel hole enlargement on one of the mlock slots. and I also got a piece of mloc rail cover and drilled a hole in it to access the adjustment. also make sure your JP recoil spring is poking out, about the same thickness of a coin. Or your bolt will beat the crap out of it.

    Riflespeed Gas Controls AGB would be a great solution to the overgassing problem. Plus, you could quickdial it down for suppressed/unsppressed use on the fly. However, you would probably need to shorten the handguard to access the control knob. I'm curious about what Polenar's take would be on this combination!

    I do like the fact that the WWSD is still a beast in the middle of it's evolutionary cycle.
    Of course it's some of the little things like, calibre, barrel twist, barrel profile and gas system that are going to, I feel, really define this project.
