My uncle survived the Pentagon attack, he saved his friend who’d broken his leg and got out with a few minutes to spare as he was near the part of the building that collapsed. Lives with hardcore survivors guilt as do so many of his friends from that day. Grateful this was made into an episode because I didn’t actually know a lot about it, and one of the things that will always make me angry is knowing just how easily the hijackers got onto those planes.

@@HellcatMad It would have been yeah, would've fallen into unconsciousness once past a certain altitude. There was another incident like that in Greece, a Helios flight circled Athens for hours on autopilot before fuel starvation and gravity brought it down.
If a plane got hijacked now, people wouldn’t attack the hijacker, they’d just pull out their phones to record the damn thing
Question- At 4:15 you said that the airplanes previous captains used the oxygen masks in that plane multiple times without a problem, but if there was nothing wrong with the plane than why would they need to use the oxygen masks so many times?!?

One of the key reasons of the crash is that ‘Put on oxygen mask’ was not the first, or second thing to do incase of depressurization at the time.
Also sometimes, pilots would use the oxygen masks just to get some energy.

@@ryangosling2049. That's due to the Smithsonian Channel changing the seasons when they got the rights to the show in 2011 starting with season 5. This season and many other seasons are the seasons people in the US have seen which is why people who watch the US version have to clear up what season we are talking about due to the seasons getting changed.

about Pentagon crash - those real scene videos showed no plane parts near the building once it crashed from what i could see

I can’t help but laugh at the TANS 737 in the Trans-Colorado 2286 episode, no offense to the 9 victims of this crash.
The AirWest DC-9 tho, the airline had rebranded a long time back and was acquired by Republic Airlines which then merged into Northwest and finally, Delta.
The TANS Peru 737 is also in British Midland flight 92

playing the devils advocate here : it was not first in the check list in case of a cabin altitude alert . however the FAA (Federal aviation administration) & the airways hauled ass to make changes to the checklist so that ''put on oxygen mask on first'' was the first thing on the checklist

Fun Fact: They never really determined whether it was a plane, missile or a drone that hit pentagon because investigators were not allowed to investigate therefore no parts of the plane were taken for further examination to prove the make/model of the planes. Each Plane that has parts that are changed have unique serial numbers which are logged during maintenance, these serial numbers are then used to match the serial number with a crashed plane part with the similar serial number. On 9/11, out of 4 planes that were hijacked, 3 of them were not identified. NTSB use serial numbers to identify planes, it's in their regulations. Question is, why did the FBI not allowed NTSB to identify the planes and investigate the "parts" that were collected.
I feel like it was a plane, it had to be.
There were witnesses who saw the planes hit the Pentagon and WTC towers, so they knew it wasn't a missle or drone. Based on ATC tracking, they were able to determine which plane hit where.

The NTSB did not have official jurisdiction, the FBI did. When there is an airplane crash in the us or of a us plane, the FBI and NTSB work together at the beginning of the investigation to determine whether it is an accident or a crime. If the plane was crash due to a bomb, hijacking, sabotage, etc. it is the FBI’s case. If it is deemed as accident the FBI backs out and lets the NTSB to take over.
As to people saying it wasn’t a plane, I would like to refer you to PSA flight 1771. It was a British Aerospace 146-200 that was purposely flown into the ground and left a crater less than 2 ft (0.6 m) deep and 4 ft (1.2 m) across and was estimated to be going at 770 mph (1,240 km/h). What was found was small pieces, it is said that only 11 of the 43 people on board were identified.

Seems crudely voyeuristic to do a mashup of just the actual crash in every episode of a season. The point of an air crash investigation is to provide analysis/understanding of cause(s), leading, hopefully, to future prevention. Reducing a 45 min episode to just a few mins or so is in danger of focusing too much on the vicarious ‘excitement’ of a plane crash, instead of the underlying reasons for its occurrence.
