What all RUclips reviewers missed is what the Edge ST was optimized for: Hustle the thing up a challenging mountain road with some hairpins and good switchbacks: It's a revelation. The sport mode conjures up aggressive rev matched downshifts on corner entry (Assuming you're braking like you mean it), the chassis honkers down with the active AWD neutralizing corner exit balance, the brakes are totally up for some pretty unsociable stuff, and a few seconds too many into the twin turbo Ecoboost's throttle will net you speed worthy of a pretty stiff speeding ticket. On the other hand if you're just trying to horse it around at lower speeds like you would a hot hatch, like most 'Testers' do, it feels heavy and not that enthused about the task. But then again, what do you expect from a 4000+ lbs SUV?
Your comparisons is biased as all get out. The ford offers a more practical interior, a roomier interior, more cargo room, more power and its costs less. You want to option the Edge with tech features that matches the Acura but you can't do the same in reverse to make the Acura match in horsepower, roominess and a host of other things.
Well....because you can't change the physical dimensions of a vehicle, but you can check the boxes to add options. As far as the HP, check the performance stats. They're pretty much identical 0-60 and quarter mile. And the extra roominess comes from the Edge's higher roof line because it is not tapering toward the rear, which give it more of a boxier station wagon and less sporty look.
I am a car enthusiast and a Ford fan, but, between those two, I think the Acura takes the edge, design-wise (performance and practicality, there is no doubt that the Edge is the better one)!
How hard is it to push a button to change from Park to Reverse, to Neutral, to Drive?? Or rotary knob for that matter?? Hopefully people find that out when they go to the dealership for a test drive. What was the road noise/ wind noise like? What fuel economy did you get? What were the headlights like at night driving?
The Edge ST is bigger, faster, and 2 grand cheaper. But the Acura looks 10 times more premium. The Acura's headlights, red seats, and overall styling takes the win in my book 📖🙌👌😀
@@durhamresident4984 umm pretty sure that’s an Acura RDX. Why they are comparing that with Ford idk. I don’t think anyone would take a Ford over an Acura.
@@jamesparrish9613 the only people who want a Ford over an Acura are the ones who can’t afford an Acura. Even the currently outdated RDX is smoother, quieter, and will handle circles around a new edge. The RDX is about to get redesigned anyway. This is 3 years old and I would still take this RDX over a new Edge on the material quality of the interior alone. I’ll take real wood, metal, and leather over a cabin full of plastic with an Ipad stuck to the center of it.
@@AFCompany That's funny. I can easily afford both, but after driving both I found that the Edge was a much better suv than the Acura. The 4-cylinder turbo Acura is nothing compared to the twin turbo v-6 in the Edge ST. I guess it's a matter of preference. But remember what vehicle won.
I like the rotary knob shifter. It frees up the center console and isn’t in the way of your hands or arms. It also allows for more interesting design elements. I would actually prefer the knob over the buttons.
There is no comparison. The Edge ST eats the Acura for lunch. I test drove both. The Edge ST with the Performance Brake and Tire Package (with the Pirelli Pzeros) is awesome! Like a Sports car in SUV clothing!

Yep, Im debating between these two and my wife ruled out the edge because it 'looks like and egg' from the side. Im cool with that though, because the Acura is the better car and less money.
