I have a 2024 Camry SE with the 2.5L and 8 speed transmission. Traveling from St. Augustine to just outside Orlando I averaged 45 mpg traveling around 70mph on the interstate. Around town I only get around 26mpg but on an interstate with a steady speed the car punches above the EPA ratings. I am very impressed.
We bought one of those 2024 VW Jettas that you reviewed. It was $20300 out the door . My wife and daughter love the peppy little 1.5 liter turbo and we have gotten 40-41 per gallon on the highway.
I have a 2020 Hybrid LE gets 48 easy. Currently at 205,000 miles. Soild cars only drawbacks is the seats 💺 suck on long drives and I do alot of driving. Going to upgrade to XLE next month or ES depending on availability.
I got 58 in a base model LE on a trip to St. George and back last week. 759 miles. So yes, the fuel economy is off the charts. Your test wasn't a good representation.
if the new Camry gets 40 mpg at 4000 ft and not broken in, I think it will easily get 46 mpg. I have a 2020 Camry Hybrid LE and it easily gets 48;mpg in the winter and 52 in warmer weather. I’ve owned 4 Toyota Hybrids and their mileage improves more than most vehicles when broken in.
I get what the EPA says, and even a little bit more around town. It’s probably because of the elevation that you’re at and that the car isn’t broken in.
Ben; you have to be in ECO drive mode to see the numbers it is rated for. Your instrument cluster isn’t showing that you are in the correct mode for the high fuel rating. I drive for Toyota and have driven a ‘25 LE Camry. It is rated at 51 mpg and get’s every bit of that and more easily.
There’s a knack to driving a hybrid. I have a ‘24 Camry LE hybrid (which is rated a little higher than the SE) with 4500 miles. I don’t “hyper-mile”…but driven conservatively, I haven’t had a tank less than 50mpg yet. Around town (combined city/freeway) I usually get around 55-60.
The last gen Camry easily beat its EPA estimates, the new Camry hybrid design is significantly more efficient, so I have no doubt it will get better than the EPA estimates. It also doesn’t look like the vehicle is broken in. Toyotas 4th and 5th gen hybrid system, learns your driving style and terrain and then adapts to it to give you the best mpg, so brand new you won’t get the high mpgs until you break it in. That’s how it went with my 2021 Toyota Venza
Change your new oil at 2000 miles. That's enough break in for the engine to start giving you the right mpg and an early oil change gets rid of any metal shavings from the break in. Only use full synthetic at the right weight.
I test drove that new Hybrid Camry (I was just curious) In my view, I find my TRD Camry to be far more superior. The car salesman even suggested that I trade my TRD to that Hybrid Camry. I laughed and I firmly declined. Are you kidding me😆
A bit too much accel between short stop sign/lights and a bit too late on breaking messes up mpg, and watching your speeds in parking lot and first light you accel more than me and break more than me. Hard acceleration merging will really kill the mpg on a short trip. I had 2017 Cruise and got 42 mpg highway doing 57 miles per hour, even reaching 48 mpg using cruise control on long flat stretches while getting 34 city with very smooth accel and braking. My sister bought my car and immediately only got 37 highway and 25 city. I can't ride with her, my niece, or my oldest brother as they all act like it is a race between stop lights and signs giving me motion sickness and a rollercoaster ride feeling. I have had several vehicles make it 90,000 miles before needing brakes while my sister is getting her 3rd set at that time.
People need to be educated on driving hybrids to get the best out of them as you drive them completely different to a petrol or diesel car, you need to drive smoothly and only accelerate hard once the engine kicks in to get up to the required road speed and then just use very light throttle to maintain speed, also you need to anticipate far ahead and lift off the accelerator long before the junction and get the best out of the regeneration, far to many car journalists or you tube reviewers floor the accelerator and brake last second and then slate the car for getting poor fuel economy, I'm on my second Corolla hybrid and average 70 mpg UK and have achieved 80 on several occasions by driving the way I described
He needs to drive in the northeast. Most cars have problems before 70k miles because of potholes but do better in better roads. Even semi trucks do horribly in the northeast and require more maintenance. Tires, wheels and wheel hubs, suspension, creaks and sounds from the interior.
At this elevation level it did great i'm sure between the 2 systems the mpg felt it but your feel kept up decently... My last 23 altima use to get 26 city 43 highway w/o any special tech at the lower elevation levels, just simple 4cyl no auto start /stop version ... but I gotta admit going from the 95ft elevation to the almost 1,900 ft couple times a week mpg drops below 38 very easy and you can feel rpm stays up as vehicle slows down a lot ...
I rented a 2025 camry in Virginia Beach near sea level and the ave was 53 mpg over its 6000 miles of driving by all those people who rented it before me. I also drive a 21 Sienna that has yielded an ave of 40 mpg over 47k miles. A hybrid with its 2 or 3 electric motors provides higher mpg in slow traffic with battery power without using the engine. 0:03
I ordered white black leather.. imo will last longer look newer alot longer than red... pearl and white look. The same except more cost for pearl ..and if u ever get accident pearl is harder to match which I seen cars driving around slightly off
Vacillating between a new SE with the good stuff added or wait and see if the Civic is any good. The Accord looks off IMO. Two days later. I just wanted to look at them. Why did it follow me home. I actually drove it. I got almost $2500 off MSRP
