I do a lot of roof inspections so having them on helps if I hit an aerial pole or air condition unit there's more chance I can recover and fly out. Also in spring, my drone gets a lot of swoops from birds. Having the prop guards makes the drone look bigger and gives it a defined outline as I don't think the birds can see the spinning props and I don't want to take out the bird or vice versa. On a negative note, the prop guards have more of a chance of catching on to branches if you were to hit a tree.
The unboxing part was very satisfying. So many unboxing themed videos you have to watch the content creator struggle with the packaging. Your drop was perfect! Love how the box magically disappeared.
Hi, thanks for this vid. Would these guards work with the Mavic 3 Classic? Online states pro and cine only but in theory is the classic similar enough to accommodate these?
Thanks for the video. I'm new to drones and my wife bought me the M3 and prop guards. Now I know how to put them on, and will have a little more confidence on my first take-off and landing. It looks like they will be very useful when working in tight quarters (with permission: between stationary railroad vehicles or around building construction sites - my 2 initial uses).
Thank you very much for demonstrating the prop guards for Mavic 3! Now x3 broken blades and all due to landing just a few inches from the ground (due to my error and sudden gust of wind). As usual really good help ✅
I've got prop guards that look the same but are heavier than the original DJI guards, 27g each or 110g for all four. There was some wind when I test them and Mavic 3 Classic flies extremelly unstable. I remember from other drones that they automatically detect when there is accessory attached like prop guards but in my case there was no notification of prop guards detection. Do you have such notification with the genuine prop guards?
I did indoor test in underground parking lot, there I've got "Prop guards detected" notification and all was very smooth. Somehow it couldn't detect them because of the wind on the outdoor test.
Perhaps its a bit much to ask but a demonstration of how they protect and prevent a crash would be very useful. I'm trying to determine the extent of the protection from these guards.
One of the main benefits is to protect the propellers themselves. Obviously it protects people, animals and birds *from* the propeller but it is less obvious that it also protects the propellers and thus the drone itself. Flying in tight spaces without a prop guard you run the risk of hitting something with a propeller. It stops, or breaks; either way the drone cannot fly so even a minor sideways bump is probably a crash. However, with prop guards, the drone merely bounces off walls or whatever and maintains its flight. Very important for indoor flying especially. It is also useful if you fly too close to a ceiling; the drone will tend to suddenly clamp itself to the ceiling because of the suction. The prop guards typically protect slightly above the plane of the props and will prevent disaster if the drone attaches itself to a ceiling. If that happens you want to get under it and ready to catch it since you have to cut power quite a bit to let go the ceiling then it will come down quickly.
@@AirPhotography Yep, i must say i think the 2k for the Mavic 3 and the 1k for the Rc pro is worth the money for me. But the prop guards should be $29 max. Merry Christmas and happy new year Sean!
I still cannot get the two guards at the back installed. Anyone thinking of getting these then don't bother, they are useless as you cannot install them.
@@AirPhotography thanks for getting back to me - love your channel I'm sure there was a setting on the mini2, hence me looking for one on the Mavic 3. (client wants me to fly indoors!)
Anytime you add any weight or preferables to a drone it can affect the battery time and performance. However it is very minimal with the prop guards. Windy days you may see the drone moving around a bit more but it should not affect footage
Ok so serious question. One of the main rulings we hear about under 107 here in the states, is "exposed blades" which deals with flying near people. Do guards like this make them not exposed anymore based on their description and rule interpretation? I could see using these if we were filming for our local high school football etc.
Yeah it’s hard to say I know in some countries in order to fly over people if you have a waiver you have to have a cage around the propellers. I don’t know if these would qualify as a cage
I think people were right calling the Mavic Mini ones cage. In contrast these are just guards. Caging the props have a big contra, disrupting propeller flow so perhaps a DJI Mavic 3 owner should accept the safety trade off by knowing how to safely fly and don't fling into persons? I suspect 900 grams M3 falling at terminal velocity from the sky can pretty much kill you, meanwhile I doubt a sub 250 grams Mini drone could.
Blades are less exposed, certainly to the most dangerous kind, "laceration" is very unlikely since that is edge-on contact with the propellers. I use them when I am making video of, for instance, Scouting activities. I also don't fly directly over people.
I have seen Facebook group posts of people getting them due to flying around trees. Based on a previous drone crash, they are little help with trees, but do help with walls, poles, and other solid objects. In my opinion, they provide a false sense of security, and would probably be more cautious without them.
Shawn, I always enjoy and learn from your videos. Thank you. I have a question, do you do all your photo editing via LR on a iPad and video with LumaFusion on Ipad? They seem so much easier for a beginner like me to learn, rather than Adobe desktop series. Thanks for your insight.
Yes I do all my video editing in LumaFusion, it’s very easy to pick up for a new beginner but also advanced enough as you progress. And for most of my simple photo editing including creating thumbnails for my channel I just use Snapseed, It is a free app and pretty decent for what it can do. I do use Lightroom on my iPad if I’m editing Timelapse photo sequences

Hey Air Photography
Can we do Flips with the DJI Mavic 3 when it is in FPV mode??
No you cannot. The whole drone does not have FPV capabilities just Gimbal Gives you a feel for FPV style shots
ok @@AirPhotography

Thanks for making this video about the prop guards. They can be useful in some situations. Wow, 49 dollars for a bit of plastic 😀
Indeed it seems that DJ is becoming the new Apple. We used to have the Apple tax now we have the DJI tax
Wait until you see what a Mini 1 and 2 batteries retail for here in EU. 2*18650 cells with a tiny board and a thin plastic sheet wrap.

@@m80116 Mini 2 batterys are cheap imho. I bought them for €49 in the Netherlands.
Good to see the prop guards on the drone
I have these and 3 of the guards are impossible to install - they are too small so the clips don't close. Is this just a bad unit/batch?
I've just got mine and found this too. Spent twenty minutes trying to clip them on. At this rate they won't get used.
I still cannot get the two guards at the back installed. Anyone thinking of getting these then don't bother, they are useless as you cannot install them.
Thanks for this. Is there a setting in the controller menu to say that propeller guards are attached, like with some other DJI drone models ?
No, there is no physical setting you need to change
@@AirPhotography thanks for getting back to me - love your channel
I'm sure there was a setting on the mini2, hence me looking for one on the Mavic 3. (client wants me to fly indoors!)
Yes, you are right. On some of the older mini drones, there was a payload mode that needed to be enabled.
Those props do make the Mavic 3 look really big. But for indoor flying, or flying in close quarters they could come in very handy.
I brought dji mini se but the cable is kinda short and want to know whether we can get a cable bigger in length
Yes you can use third-party cables that are longer
Can you suggest me please
Does it affect flight and performance?

I liked the fast unboxing. :)
also work on the Classic, correct ?
Yes, indeed it works on the classic. And I assume it will work on the new one that’s coming next week the pro model.
I ordered a Mavic 3 for my 1st drone, still ecstatically waiting. As soon as I saw these, I added them to my cart.
Merry Christmas Mr Air Photography 🎄!
Thank you and merry Christmas to you as well
I purchased these guards with my MAVIC 3 Pro and a corresponding set for my Air 2s and I keep them on permanently, they’re like seatbelts.

@@m80116 Depends on how high it is and whether the props are spinning, which determines the velocity. A bullet weighs much less.

$49 for a piece of plastic is an absolute rippoff. For that price they should have been made of carbon fiber.
