Mask Fitting and Review of the Philips Respironics DreamWear CPAP BiPAP Mask.
Been using CPAP for 18 years and changed to this mask some four months ago. It is definitely the most comfortable mask I have used. I am not suggesting that going to bed with ANY CPAP mask is comfortable but, this is definitely the best I have tried.
You are a rock star! I asked for one of these at the sleep lab. They only had a few and were just starting to use them. One tech didn't even know about them. Because of your RUclips video, I was an informed consumer. During my sleep study, the dreamwear worked!!! So I've been spared a full face maske or other hard mask that I'd have a hard time complying with. Thank you!!!
+Nancy Dolittle You are quite welcome. You're the one that did your homework though!!! Kudos to you!
I am glad to hear others have had better luck with this mask than I have. It is so much noisier than my other mask and it looses seal every time I turn in bed. I have tightened, loosened you name it but it will not stay sealed. I really wanted it to work because I like the nose slit over pillows and the hose swivel on top of my head rather than on my face. Oh well, I will go back to my ResMed PL10 head gear & pillows and hope Philips improves on this design. Btw, a great tip from my wife that really works is if you lightly smear some lip balm (I use her Avon) on the nose pillows it will stop the irritation on the nostrils. It's best to use non petroleum lip balm if you can find it so it will not degrade the pillows as quick.
Update: The sleep center determined I had the wrong size head gear and fitted me with a smaller one, I gave it another chance but half way thru the night I switched back to pillows and was able to finally sleep- go figure. I will continue to try the DreamWear since I have it but the jury is still out.
I used a full face mask for a month because im new to this stuff and thought i would just open my mouth and the nasal ones wouldnt work..... boy was I wrong. the full face mask gave me dry mouth and it was painful.
the dreamwear is AMAZING, i have played around with the different sized pillows for a day or two each to see what works best and i finally found the combo that works for me.
I purchased my dreamwear/philips Respironics CPAP two weeks ago. I give it a 100%, A+ review. Never felt better. Never slept better.
just got this yesterday and when I woke up this morning, I found the "red" face for mask fit. I watched this video, fit my nasal mask back on and then set the mask fit test and it was a green face. Thanks for making these kinds of videos. It really helped as sometimes it is a lot to take in when purchasing a machine and trying to remember everything.
Thank you so much for all of your videos and info. I picked up my dream wear this week and love it. Wearing a cpap is new for me. I watched all of your videos and the dream wear was the one for me. I have had several nose surgeries and will have another one in 2 weeks. This mask does not have any pressure points and is simple to use.
For those side sleepers this mask makes it possible to sleep on your side in comfort and with your own pillow. This machine is so quiet and easy to clean.
+Denise Fults You are quite welcome Denise!
This video really helped me, thank you. I bought it from my bipap provider, to replace a mask which covered my nose and mouth. I would turn in the night and sometimes it would squeal as air found it's way out. Talking with my provider months down the road, they suggested I try this mask. I bought it, but didn't try it out right away. A month later, I brought it out and put it on. It was terrible, I was constantly trying to get it to fit right and it was noisy as the air flow seemed too close to my ears. I chalked all this up to getting used to it, but eventually went back to my old mask. Then, on a whim, I looked it up on youtube and found this video! Looking carefully, I saw that it looked differently when you put it on! The way I was putting it on, the tube plugged into the back of my head while yours was on top! This had been a problem as well in that although I primarily sleep on my side, sometimes I roll on my back which made this location problematic. It was then, watching your video, that I realized that I was putting it on backward. I've not slept with it correctly yet, that'll be tonight, but it all makes sense now and I tested it. It feels much better. Thank you.
Glad you found the video then!
I love your great sense of humor mixed in with solid knowledge and advice.
I'm a newbie to CPAP therapy and it can be daunting but your great videos
on almost every subject make this all so much easier.
Thank you so much! You help so much more than you'll ever know!
+susan maher Thank you Susan. I appreciate that.
I was lucky enough to start with this machine and mask, just a week ago. (I was told I needed a CPAP 9 years ago but freaked out with the huge nose-and-mouth mask they tried to clamp on my claustrophic face!) Best news: I don't smother now when I turn onto my face! And that explains the exhale vent at the top of the head, for when the cushion vent is blocked.
I agree that the design is brilliant. This is my sleep center's most popular mask with my patients, the ONLY COMPLAINT is how it leaks if you toss & turn a lot but recently the Philips Respironics DreamWISP is a premium solution to that ONLY COMPLAINT. GREAT VIDEO Lanky!
Jason, for someone finally relegated to cpap in my senior years, I really enjoy your videos from faraway Hong Kong. Thanks for your honest reviews, humor (or humour for Brits still in HK after the handover) and sharing your experiences. Many thanks.
You are quite welcome.
The original mask only had the top ventilation. The bottom air holes were added because moisture was building up under the nose. This allows the excess moisture to dissipate into the room instead of dripping into your nose.
Thank you for that info I was dying to know what the vent hole was for
I just started using the CPAP and this is the mask I got and I am grateful I chose this mask. So far I haven’t had any irritation.
Hi Jason, thank you very much for your review. Thanks to this I decided to buy the Dreamwear and it's totally amazing. I'm a side-sleeper and regular nasal masks tends to move away from my face and if I sleep on my back usually I choke out after some time since I have some allergies that makes some slight amount of nasal liquid goes back to my throat (which does not happen on my side). Anyway, this mask is amazing, just the first night I've try it I felt the difference, it's easy to wear, comfortable, flexible and no leaking at all while sleeping on my side, and it's so comfortable due to the tube connection being on top of the head that I practically forgot it was connected to something. Best sound sleep I have had in a while, I was able to get full night without taking out accidently the mask (which happened with regular mask when sleeping on my side), I love it!, thank you very much for your thorough reviews, keep on with this good work.
By the way, the package I ordered in Amazon came with everything, I have 4 different cushion sizes, a soft pad for each cheak and it's really, really comfortable.
THANK YOU!
You're welcome Christian. Glad that it's working well for you.
I got mine through my insurance and the supply company my doc contracts with. It came with just one size of the "frame" and two or three sizes of the nose piece. The tech just had me do a try-on for the correct size frame.
I have the medium and I probably could go with the small. I just had to tighten the velcro straps more to get it to fit right. I am really happy with it! Side sleeper here too, and what a change from the Activa style I used for the last 13 yrs.
Make sure that if you go small it doesn't come up to your eye sockets. I found Medium better.
@@Freecpapadvice Jason, isn't it horrible if we sleep on our back, this nasal stuff sneaks down into our trachea, the airway passage seizes up because it doesn't want the stuff going down into the bronchials... ugh. My heart races as I nearly had no air.
So I try to neti pot cleanse before bed, but invariably after 5 hrs., some nasal drip accumulates.
Question; as I am trying to get my 86 yr. old father with beginning signs of cognitive decline to get a sleep study; will this mask with the humidifying affect help the Post-Nasal drip scenario from developing? I've noticed when I kind of cover my nose and create some warmth the post nasal drip ceases. Thanks for all you do.
Hi there! I was watching the beginning of your video as I started CPAP yesterday and also am using this mask. I turned to my daughter and told her I feel like a Snorkel (the cartoon) and then you said the exact same thing seconds later.... I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who sees it this way, lol. Am already super self-conscious about it. Thanks for the information and for your humorous way of presenting it.
@Susanne Rechlin Appreciate video content! Apologies for chiming in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you researched - Franaar Painless Smile Formula (should be on google have a look)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for crushing your snoring or sleep apnea problem without the hard work. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my m8 after many years got astronomical success with it.
You are the reason I even tried this mask--this and your other video discussion if a "mouth breather" has to use a full face mask. I went from an Amara View full face mask (and I TOTALLY agree with you--it does seem to be made out of "brick material", LOL) to THIS mask and I am in heaven! No more waking up endless times fighting a mask! Put it on, start it up and "fugitaboutit!" I thank you profusely for all the information you have given and research to help people like me! A newbie to CPAP!
You are very welcome! :^) Glad that you found it helpful Lori.
this video definitely helped, I just got my first CPAP a few weeks ago and this is the same set up I have, but I also have the humidifier. I remember watching my grandmother 15 years ago having to sleep with ear plugs because of how loud the machine was, honestly can't imagine using another mask. the way you described how it should fit was very helpful because I think I've been wearing it to tight and it's definitely been on the top part of my lip and causing just a little irration sometimes. you just earned yourself a new subscriber.
Thanks for subbing Nick!
I’ve really love your humor & at the same time informative like no one else! I’ve really come to be just as educated about different mask that I may want to explore. My cpap supplier is surprised how I know about masks
Thanks Adrienne, glad that they are increasing your knowledge about masks.
Agree with you. Very informative and yet light hearted enough to be entertaining. How cool is that? Learning while being entertained. I have learned tons from these videos. Ironically, my Respiration Therapist is a lot like Jason. Not afraid of using a little humor. This is total win for me.
I've been using this mask for a week and absolutely love it. Tried the resmed n20 and really liked it. However, this mask is difficult to beat: super comfortable, unobtrusive, stays in place, effective. The location of the attachment for the tube is brilliant.
Just got mine today and it feels great. Thanks for all your reviews, because of them I'm super comfortable.
I have this one and love it!!! I have a large head and wear a medium with small nose piece. I am used to sleeping on my side, and this thing is a dream!!!
I purchased this mask, after watching your video. Enjoying it. Great mask!! Thanks for your reco.
I have been using the Dreamware mask for a few weeks and it is AWSOME by far, the best, most comfortable mask I have tried.
+BarefootBoy Pla do you find it noisy? So many are saying they do.
+tobywinter1 it can be noisy, but if you move the nose piece into a better position, it cuts down on the noise. I find that I do have to adjust it a few times each night, but it is more comfortable than the other masks that i have used.
When it gets noisy, you need to adjust the headstrap
Just got mine that came with a cardboard gauge to measure your nose for which nose piece to use. It came with a Medium frame and a new and improve elastic band with new plastic extensions which works better than just the elastic band. Most comfortable mask I have ever used in the last 8 years as a cpap user. If your medical supply does not stock all the options for this mask, look for a different provider.
Vbr,
T.
I Love this mask! I was one of the lucky ones who was called on to be in the trial for this mask long before it was put out on the market. I literally cried the day they called and said I had to send it back because it wasn't on the market yet and they could not say if they were going to manufacture it. A couple years later, they sent me one in the mail as a thank you for all my input!!!! @TheLankyLefty27, thank you for all your hard work making these videos. You are a huge asset! I was born with OSA, I've had 3 surgeries, had some improvements in breathing but will probably be a cpap user for life.
Nice review, I started cpap 6 years ago and never used, when realizing I needed to get back on it I found this mask and it made all the difference in the world. I tried the nasal pillows for a week and while it was better than previous masks but this set up was the best. This mask makes cpap bearable and as Jason has mentioned in other videos it is better not using the ramp up button. Nice instruction around fittings, but I think the connection is more like a telatubby.
This mask is awesome, very comfortable, no issues running between 7to20, highly recommend. resist the urge to over tighten, that is the only time i had any comfort issue.
The Dream wear is a very comfortable device. It does not leave a red pressure mark on your nose nor does it leave marks on your cheeks . With the tube coming in on the top of your head you can sleep in comfort !!! I have set up people with these and have had very positive feedback .
I've been using a Resmed P10 pillow mask for a year, but had to temporarily go back to the Dreamware mask because of irritation in my nose caused by the side effects of bronchitis/pneumonia. Can't wait to heal up and go back to the P10, which is the gold standard of nasal/pillow masks in my opinion and experience after trying about 8 different style masks when I started Cpap 15 months ago.
I used the DreamWear for a year, except for headgear slipping at least once nightly, was the best mask out of 6 that I had tried. With my most resent nasal pice replacements that all changed. I picked up 2 of them, both nasal piece very quickly caused the nasal bridge to be very sore. Got to the point where my nose was sore all day. I am looking forward to trying the DreamWear full face mask, when it becomes available NOT because of needing a full face mask, but due to the head gear being very much like the headgear of Amara View was the best for keeping the mask in place for me.
Thanks for this review. I bought this and find it the most comfortable mask I have worn, especially given I am trying to train myself to sleep on my side. I am still getting irritation under my nose but will make a few more adjustments and see if that corrects that issue. BUT the one thing I would like Phillips to add to this is the availability of an EXTRA SMALL pillow for those of us with small nostrils. Then it would be perfect!
I have been using this mask for almost a year best mask of all.
Just got this whole setup today. New to CPAP, but after 14 months of sleeping 2 - 2 1/2 hrs a night (caused by a tinnitus-like side effect from a generic for of Zithromiacin antibiotic that damaged my auditory cortex and left me with a 24x7 loud ringing at 7850hrz). Anyways, I was found to have low oxygen at 80-88 and my doctor is convinced this will help my sleep. We'll see tonight. Thanks for the video and information. I'll update with my results.
+kerry benedict Best of luck to you.
Struggling with it. Anyone get chest rattle from the humidifier? Can it be turned off vs just the 1 (low)
setting?
Got my Dreamware mask three weeks ago and love it. I had been using the nasal swift pillow for her. No more sore nose. I put a headband on and let the mask sit on it so more damage to my hair like with my last mask.
No more damage to my hair.
You sir are the man. Because of you I'm able to make it through my much needed CPAP therapy without too much difficulty. I would like to let you know I received my DreamWear mask today and am using it for the first time as I type this. Absolutely love it! Hope I don't end up mouth breathing too bad. I would like to let you know however, that my mask only came with one size...not all. Maybe they no longer give all size options in one bag. Thank you again and keep up the awesome work. You really are helping a ton of people.
Thank you for the positive feedback Ryan. I'm happy to hear that you're doing well.
Ryan Barstad
yes
Ryan Barstad the set up I just bought 4 day ago came with 4 size nose pieces but only a medium head band I did see other sets with only one single size setup it might just be the one you picked out mine was 110.00 others were cheaper
Turd Nugget RespShop.com sells all the sizes.
Good video, great explanations and demonstration. I think the CPAP system has improved my quality of life. I have a few suggestions. For one you can mention unlike other masks, the Dreamware mask user can wear eyeglasses and headphones while the machine is running. And if a sleeper wears a hooded sweatshirt, in a colder room, the hood can be pulled over the head for warmer comfort. Also you had not mentioned if air is leaking and whistling the strap can be adjusted a little tighter to bring the nose piece closer to the skin which seals better. Pushing the mouthpiece into the face is a test to see whether or not it seal or leaks than readjust the Velcro on the strap and test it again. "good breath to ya."
Hey Bub
Thanks for all the awesome videos. This is my mask of choice. Have been using the Dream Wear and absolutely love it. Very comfortable. Very light.
Took me a few nights to get used to the strap , but afterwards No problem.
I've been using this mask for about two weeks and I love it, especially compared to the standard nasal style vs the nasal pillow style of mask! I will stated that some patient's cannot fit this mask and I it is entirely based upon face shape. Most every patient I've spoken with is comfortable, but leaks become a factor if your face shape does not align.
So I feel air at the top and around nose so I know it's leaking and I'm a side sleeper. I'm also wearing the small. Any tips for not having it leak?
@@karenzimmer7607
The dream wear is a bit particular to sizing correctly. What size are you wearing and have you attempted a different size of cushion?
Yes, I see now that it's a large. I will try the small. Wore the N30i last night and faired pretty well. I'll keep trying. I am to see an ENT soon and hope he can open nasal passages some. It's been a long time coming
I returned to this mask, as you said this is a good design.
I bought this mask after I watched your review on it had it for four days now and think it is awesome 👍👍and👍
I Have used it for 12 days. I was just diagnosed wit OSA, so I have no way to compare masks. This one was the one recommended by my healthcare provider and covered by the insurance. Since I have never wore one before it took a few nights to get use to sleep with something wrapped around head, feeling like a teletubbies. I have gotten some irritation and chafing under my nose and the septum. J hope it gets better I am using some water base ointments/creams. Thank you for your review and forum. Sleepy head software is awesome.
This mask is so awesome!
No nasal prongs. It's like Angelina Jolie has her luscious lips snugged up against your nose. If you make sure the hose connection is 1) on the "top" of your head, and 2)the band is placed horizontal or lower, it won't leak and it will feel great! Having the hose on top of your head, rather than on your nose, elephant trunk style, is a major comfort and vision improvement. Trust me on this one.
I am a newbie to CPAPs and masks. I like this mask's versatility and ease to wear. I am still struggling with some anxiety with having pressure on my nose. Just got the ResMed AirSense 10 yesterday with regulating back pressure. Needless to say, I am still getting used to wearing a CPAP. Thanks for the video!
You are the BEST!!! I was having trouble positioning it under my nose. After your video I GET IT! It should not be on the lip! Thank you so much! :-)
Cool. Glad you figured it out! :^)
Just got mine today!!! Maybe I can FINALLY get a good night's sleep!
how'd it go?
+anunlow LOVE it! I've been on BI-PAP for about 13 yrs and this is THE BEST mask I've ever had!
Jason, it was time for my next round of supplies which meant I was eligible for a new mask. I requested the DreamWear mask. I have heard so much about it that I was excited to try it. Currently I use the AirFit. I have a small nose but require the large pillows because not enough air was delivered with the small or medium even at higher pressure. In other words, it felt like I was trying to suck air through a coffee stirrer! Anyway, I was extremely disappointed when my mask arrived and it contained only a large "frame" and a large nose cushion, no other sizes were included in the package. I called my provider and they told me I should have gone for a fitting so I made an appointment. When I got to the office they said they don't stock them and that I "looked like" a small frame and a small nose cushion. I am waiting for the next shipment of a small/small. They told me, if that does not fit correctly just make another appointment! Really??? My question is, why wouldn't they send all the parts as you mentioned in your video? That would have made this whole process so much easier! Is this just a provider issue and other providers do not play these games?
I have this mask, it's great! But... you have to keep a clean-shaven upper lip & fairly short head hair. Or wear a skull cap. Thanx again pal 4 keepin it lite & awesome.
I just got this mask with my new Resmed AirSen 10 As only my second machine in 15 yrs. With my old machine I tried several masks and did like to use a nose pillow with nasal prongs. When I took my new sleep study for this machine I was given this mask to try and liked it so much I bought it from the sleep clinic the next morning. The only thing that I am getting with this new system that I had not had before as I didn't know if it was available or not is the heated hosing to keep it from having water condensate and pool in the hose so when you woke up and sat up it would try to to drowned me. This is on back order so we will see how well it works when I get it but I am very hopeful as I have almost drowned in my sleep to many times now. About the only thing I might still want in a system is to have this soft tubing run a bit further up the line to the base so as to loose all the hose weight. I have the longer hose and have it hung from above my head on my head board so as to allow for best head movement while sleeping, it's the best Ive been able to rig with the materials offered at this time. Here's hoping for the next step in improvement in the system designs will address this issue. I did like what I saw when you were laying in differing head positions, the two vents idea became apparent in as much as you could press your face into the pillow and still have air flow with the top of the head exhaust port. Well thought out.
Ordered mask bright and I do use the dream ware every night. love it.
Thanks Don!
I love this mask if you have to wear one... I have started to dream again.
Thank you so much for making this video! Just subscribed to your channel. My husband was recently diagnosed with CSA and given this mask. Thank you again!
I have been using this mask for a week, and I absolutely love it! Funny because I refused to wear a mask but my doctor strongly recommended the mask instead of the oral appliance that pushes your jaw forward. I’m getting quality sleep! I don’t follow the instructions to a T as in fill with distilled each time u use it etc but I follow it to the best I can. It’s a dream! I do wonder what’s the best way to clean the mask tho? Just simply drown in water or ... ? 🤔
I have been using the dreamworks mask for about 2 months. My only problem with it is I occasionally would push the cushion off from under my nose after about 2 hours
Thanks for the video. Just got my first machine and this is the mask I chose because I'm a "mover" at night. Still total newbie so I'll be heading to your site. Also wanted to say that it is awesome you have a black cat. Me, too. Love them!
+samuraikitty18 Look forward to seeing you there. I have three black cats. I just love the way they look I suppose. They seem to pick me more often than not since they were all strays.
Black cats are my favorite, I think because my first cat at 5 years old was black. I love them all of course. I also have three black cats, all rescues.
Glad I found this review, I've been using a CPAP since late '80s or early '90s and have had several different masks. I am currently using the N20 and love it, but I'm having a problem with a skin reaction so I'm using a mask liner. The liner helps with the skin reaction, but is a nuisance keeping it in place at night and having to clean it often. I talked with my provider and asked for the N30I, but was told that they are too new and they don't have them yet. She suggested the Dreamwear and I will give it a try. I will use it till they get the N30I since I like the hose disconnect. Really a good review and if the Dreamwear seals as well as the N20, I'm sure I will like it and hopefully there will be less skin contact.
I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but with the heated tubing and the humidifier, I felt like I was breathing into a paper bag all night - total suffocation feeling. Seriously, it was like breathing in a steam room or something. Or Fort Lauderdale in August. It was awful. Even with my humidity turned down and heat turned all the way down, I still felt like I was suffocating. Also, those air tubes go right up the sides of your head by your ears - that means that you HEAR IT REALLY LOUDLY. It was like scuba diving or listening to Darth Vader breathe all night. And ye gads if you open your mouth by accident in the middle of the night, like, you know, to drool or something, and you don't wake up right away? Air blowing out your mouth until you DO wake up - leaving you totally PARCHED in the morning as though a troop of camels just walked through the desert of your throat. MY nostrils also got severely swollen after using it; they went down during the day but next morning, boom! Puff-Nostril! Like, if I wanted bigger nostrils, I would get plastic surgery or something. I switched after a week to the Amara View, which I find to be MUCH MUCH better. I loved the fact the the hose came from the top, but there were just too many downsides to make it worthwhile. Now I can actually SLEEP at night rather than have Darth Vader sounds, Puff-Nostril-Syndrome, and Desert Storm throat waking me up every two hours. YMMV of course.
I know the feeling. I liken it to breathing in someone else's breath they've just breathed out. Just turn the heating off completely.
I actually ended up going with the Amara View because even with the heat off completely, I still felt suffocated. I love the View, I can actually have the heater on and it feels fine, and I don't hear the air rushing through the tube against my ears all night. I won't go into it all here, but there are lots of why I don't think I'll switch away from the Amara View.
I like the sound of this mask I don't have sleep apnea I have C.O.P.D I live in the UK and as far as I know we don't have a humidifier as an option. I suffer with a painful burning sensation inside y nostrils.

As a respiratory therapist who has to wear a cpap, I like some designs of this mask. I have one, I also have nasal pillows. I’m fairly new to wearing cpap, and I’m struggling with it. This mask is def the most comfortable however I always sleep like crap with it and feel it is inadequately controlling my obstructions. I normally sleep on my side and I think this mask performs poorly for that purpose. I toss and turn all night with this thing on. It comes off my head, I have to wear my hair in a pony tail to keep the strap from flying off my head in the middle of the night. But it is super comfortable on the nose. The reason for having two exhalation ports is because if one becomes occluded, there is another port in a different location to prevent CO2 build up. Safety precaution. Overall I’m not impressed with this mask.
This mask what mask type is x1,x2,x3,x4,x5??????
I'm a stomach sleeper that was given a full face mask and that's horrible. Looking for something like this, thanks for the video.
Hello everybody! Thanks for the review!
I use this mask a week,it's very comfortable, but I feel a little bit cold on my head, so my question is:
Can there be any head complications(inflammation) in bald people due to the cold air overhead - air leak at the top of mask.
Thanks
This guy is awesome! Thanks for the free advice.
This is my favorite mask.
Is it still after 4 years?
I suggest [that the reason] they have 2 exhalation vents [is so that] in case you stick your face in a pillow and partially occlude the vents down the chin level [the other vent would keep working. The tubes are flat, so it still keep the residual volume at a minimum without collapsing].
They do have two.
I saw your confusion when I read my comment over. I edited for clarity (see items in square brackets).
The slit on the bottom is for the condensation to escape if the heat is set too warm.
I’m still lamenting the loss of the Comfort Curve. I loved that one.
The dreamwear is absolutely based off of the comfort curve frame.
You could probably find it on ebay or somewhere like that :) I'm sure theres people that stocked up and sell them still.
Actually I do the same exact thing believe it or not when I have a headache it helps a lot. I will lay in bed with my CPAP mask on and watch TV yes most of the time I do fall asleep butt by having it on and if I do fall asleep that means that I will sleep without any interruptions. what you doing in that photo is completely normal, or at least it is to me.
Extremely helpful, thank you.
I have to go see my dr was looking up masks this one looks good for me.. it's like quite to. How long to get used to it? Ty for sharing
I was issued this product and it leaked all over. It left me with solid red bloodshot eyes back pain because i could only sleep on my back without it leaking. I called Phillips and they told me I had the wrong size pillow and it was suposto come with all three sizes to try. I only received a medium so I was unable to evaluate the small pillow.
I thought my CPAP machine for the first month was trying to kill me. I was then issued a P10 and it gives me a full night sleep and I can sleep on my side elevating the morning back pain. What do you think of companies stripping out equipment that a patient was suposto receive to evaluate the product to the fullest.
Yesterday I have sleep with the "Fealite Nasal Pillow". I't's very comfortable, light, stable, no leaks and very cheap! Before I used the "Philips Respironics Comfort gel blue" and it was terrible, a lot of leaks problem when you move your head and a lot of irritation under my nose. The DreamWear seems very good but it's very expensive......
Hello. I Am at 12 for pressure, I use it few minutes at the sleep doctor place and I was hearing my respiration louder than a regular mask
What is your experience?
I like this mask but my wife won't let me use it because it makes more noise than my Resmed P10.
Dude,in the event that the machine shuts off, the upper vent, which is normally closed due to the positive pressure of the cpap/bipap machine being on, opens. This allows breathing freely through both the lower and upper openings. This feature is in all of the masks I have used, even the ones that don't make you look like a dope-on-a-rope.
Old video, not expecting (but hoping for) a reply, but here goes anyway. I’m a veteran and was just issued a cpap from my local VA hospital. It’s a resmed. I’m happy with the machine but not thrilled with the resmed mask selection. I really want this Phillips dreamwear mask. I saw your video explaining that any mask will work on any machine, but in this video you state that you must swap parts from an old mask. What if I don’t have that old mask? What if my old mask is a resmed and not compatible with the Phillips mask? Can I buy the mask and those said parts or would I need to buy the other mask and rob parts? I’m a bit confused.
What’s that extra piece of plastic attached to the exhalation port? The bit you squeeze to remove the tubing quickly? I don’t seem to have that, and the tube keeps falling off my head! Am I missing a piece?
I currently use the Mirage FX nasal mask the Mirage FX is great but the straps at the back of my neck is giving me a head ache, and so I am looking for a different mask. I do have the Dreamwear but the few times I have tried it, when I sleep on my side it loses the pressure. when I sleep on my side I tend to turn my head towards the pillow and look up. I am only a few days in but so far not having any luck with the Dreamwear. . I also am going to try the Respronics Nuance Pro to see if I can get it to hold pressure while I sleep and I like the fact that it doesn't put pressure on my neck. I wanted to thank you very much for all your reviews they are so helpful to us that suffer with Sleep Apnea.
You are welcome. I'm happy to hear that you're finding them helpful!
For information, there are many who use cpap when they are awake ... My son uses it several times a day as a breathing aid because of malasi :)
That second vent at the top is a b*tch. I ended up putting tape over it to close it and it really helped. With the second vent stopped up, the air pressure is higher like it's supposed to be. One vent is enough anyway. None of my other masks had more than one vent.
Hello! I'm using pillow type but I'm getting disconfort and my nose is hurting. Do you think this Philips product will solve my problems? Oh ... I have a reather large head ... thanks!
This was a great video! Thanks for your review I want to try this as my first mask
Think you should consider Comedy Central as your next gig . Funny guy!
Its noisy. I have been using it for 2 months. With the tubes going up the side of your head, when you sleep on your side, the tubing on the pillow side doesnt completely collapse...and its right beside your ear. So at times, it sounds like water running through the pipes in your wall and wakes you up. Im trying to get used to it, but by 5 am, I take it off and sleep without the CPAP machine. Ear plugs do work. But then, ear plugs get sore after a few hours.
Does this mask work on every CPAP machine or only on a Philips CPAP?
Hi do you think this mask is optimal to prevent smashed face syndrome ? Doe it puls the maxilla backwards as all other masks ? Do you think a TotalFace mask can prevent the syndrome ? I am noticing facial structures changes already. Thank You
do not enter the olives in the holes of the nose so you do not feel pain, right? the air does not come true? is the most comfortable it? I bought what olives have got into your nose and it hurts.
Thank you
I absolutely LOVE my Dreamwear. The only issue I have is the back slips off the back of my head. Not sure what I may be doing wrong. perhaps I need a small instead of medium. I do use mine with humidity. When I run out of distilled water and use it for a few days without humidity the inside of my nose gets a little dry, but not horrible. LOVE IT. Very easy to keep clean as well. Thanks so much. Really enjoy your videos.
Thanks Debra! Glad the Dreamwear is jiving with you too. We've got ourselves a LOVE CONNECTION!!!! Debra and Dreamwear sittin' in a tree..... ;^)
TheLankyLefty27 I seriously laughed out loud! BAHAHA
Hey, thanks for the review! Because of you I was able to get this mask at the company that provides my CPAP. It also helped with placement of the nose piece. I have a question though. Could the nose piece be making noise because of having a head frame that is too big?
For context, I use a small nose piece with a medium head frame. The pictures in the bag tell me that I should have the right frame size. But when I go lie down the nose part moves and the nose piece makes a very hard noise everytime I inhale. When I put some very light pressure under the nose piece the noise stops. It also stops when I sit up, turn off the machine take of the mask and place it back on my face. But as soon as I turn on my side it's there again.
The noise also stops when I place the top of the frame more on the back of my head. But looking at the pictures that means I would be wearing it the wrong way or one that is too big. Also, the frame can't stay there when I lie down. It slides forward then. Should I ask for a smaller headframe? Or is there something I could try without changins frames?
Great videos. I just got tested for sleep apnea. So new to all this. Very helpful. 😮 You can sleep on your stomach with these masks/machines?
Yes, just makes it difficult to bury your face in the pillow.
Definently will try this one next.
I got one of these
Is this going to leave marks all over my sensitive skin and dry my nose out more
I have like rosacea and sjorgens
I also sleep on my face
Can’t sleep on back ...
How do I get me one of these. I just got a CPAP device from my doctors. It is the Philips model. The Nose mask isn't terrible but this looks like a dream!!!
+ttomato182 You can order online or get one from your DME supplier.
I was so excited to try a Dreamwear as my first CPAP mask tryout. It turned out to have too much of a leak, per the sleep rep. The sleep rep said that the leaks were due to my long, thin nose -- or maybe he said it's my long thin nostrils. To add to my disappointment, he said that I wouldn't find any more luck with leakage with any cushion or pillow type masks since CPAP masks are made for the most common nose/nostril shapes. I ended up with a Wisp nasal mask, which is great as far as no leaking, but it hurts the bridge of my nose, which is very sensitive. Anyway, my questions are: (1) Could you perhaps put in a word to Respironics to try to make Dreamwear cushions for long, thin noses/nostrils? I will also contact them. (2) Are you familiar with people whose noses/nostril shapes don't work with the Dreamwear? (3) Should I maybe just try the Dreamwear again, a particular way? We did a fit test sitting up; they don't do fit tests lying down at the sleep place, at least until I perhaps press for it.
Check out the Amara View. I know, I wasn't interested in a "full face" mask either, but after finding the Wisp VERY uncomfortable on my nose, I just went ahead and tried it and it is great. It combines the under-nose style of the Dreamwear with the compact style of the Wisp, with the usefulness of not having to worry about inadvertently opening your to drool and negating your whole therapy session. I really can't say enough good things about it. And it's WAY EASIER TO CLEAN than the Dreamwear, imho. (Could never get the water drops out of that thing.) The View has a detachable cushion that just pops off for rinsing. And on and on...yes, I'm a convert on a soapbox -so sorry! :-)
I had some problems with the recommended cushion. Just tried a different one...works great.
Can you be more specific? You tried a different *size* of cushion with the Dreamwear, or a different *model* cushion with the Dreamwear? Would love to hear any details.
Size...
The exhaust noise that this mask makes at high pressure is pretty bad. This is mildly more comfortable than the N30I but it's also leakier and much noisier. I ended up keeping the N30i and returning this one.
You are hilarious!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the thorough info on this mask. I have horrible sleep apnea and need to try CPAP again. My prior masks were hard plastic and would leak and wake me up constantly. I am wondering, does this mask "leak"? I have a narrow face / jaw and have not been able to find a mask that would stay in place and do it's job for the entire night. Thanks for any feedback you can give me about my concern about leaking. Thanks
They all have the potential to leak. I would say that this is better at staying leak free. You only really know if you give it a shot.
Hey dude, I tried this mask for the first time. I have been using the breeze with pillows for about 15 years. I liked this new one but it seems much louder (air/breathing in and out) than my old one. Have you heard comments about this?
+Randy Barnett I haven't.
I’m getting discouraged it drives me crazy the noise was not that loud in the beginning.I have a air curve vault machine and heated tubing The little white connecting piece has to be pushed all the way in to my heated tubing .I don’t know if that is the problem
Also my cushion is a small mine didn’t come with 3 size cushions I have a very nose so I asked for a small cushion maybe that’s the problem I don’t know
Meant I have Avery narrow nose somewhat deviated septum
I think there are many comfortable masks on the market. My biggest stafu is...how loud is the exhalation port? I currently use the Resmed Airfit P10 nasal pillow. The exhalation port is absolutely 100% silent. No whisper, woosh, or whistles at all. Completely silence.
+Andy Schwartz It's louder than the P10 in my opinion.
Thanks for the reply!
Mine makes a squealing noise from the little vent on the nasal attachment. I’m not sure what to do about it
Will this Mask work with my Resmed Airsense 10 machine? Do you think I would be able to wear my chin strap with it or would it get in the way of top portion of the DreamWear headpiece?
Thanks!
How is the exhalation effort on this mask? I'm new to the CPAP world and the few masks I tried seemed like they required a lot of effort to exhale. I ended up getting the resmed mirage fx and I have been happy with it for the last 2 months. However I've developed a cold and the little bit of pressure that it puts on the bridge of my nose makes breathing difficult. I haven't lasted more than 3 hours before taking it off. So i'm looking for something that doesn't touch there at all.
Thanks for a great video series, I'm working through them now.
