  • I still really enjoy my Frigidaire Air Fry Range but for some reason, it decided to misbehave when I tried to make chicken wings for the Super Bowl. 😕

    I used my airfyer option for the first time tonight. I staggered two baking sheets on separate racks. I also purchased the frigidaire airfryer rack. I set my setting to 350 for 20 minutes. I had 15 wings, Seasoned well and 5 in each row. I had my vent from my above microwave on and at about 15 minutes I got a little smoke. I immediately turned the airfryer off. Removed the wings and two baking sheets. I wiped the sheets with a damp cloth and put it all back for another 5 minutes. They came out perfect! No smoke, no mess. You just have to watch your temperature. Oh I added a little water in my baking sheets (dampness only).

      genius idea to add the water on the trays. I’m going to try that. I have not had oven long, but set off smoke akarm twice. First was nornal
      oven setting cooking a half a butternut squash with a little olive oil drizzle. Second time was tonight, air fry mode sweet potato fries with very light coconut oil spritz. opened the oven door and plumes of smoke poured out filling the air just like this video.

    i would just get a roll (the large, long roll) of reynolds heavy duty aluminum foil and tear off a piece that will cover as much of the rack as possible (underneath); you should be able to cover pretty much the whole rack and i wouldn't even use a pan under the foil. just turn the edges of the foil up about 1/4" - 1/2" all the way around.

      I have been making my own foil trays for 20 years. If you use a baking sheet, at some point, when it gets harder or colder, it Intends to warp abruptly and splashes grease everywhere.

    Hi again. Just saw your more recent video about the smoke issue. Basically from a lesson learned in this video was it bc you used too much oil?

  • @Ev1brmo
    @Ev1brmo 4 года назад +2

    A few things would help here I think. A vented hood would be outstanding. Steaming, boiling or cooking at a lower temp initially to render off fat, and avoid fat getting on anything inside the oven.

  • @davidboehm3632
    @davidboehm3632 3 года назад

    It looks like you have an over-the-range microwave above your range. They have fans that should draw the smoke out to the exhaust pipe venting to the outdoors or if you have no exhaust pipe it would be set to recirculating and just try to filter any smoke. Are you using this?

  • @NUCJESUS
    @NUCJESUS 3 года назад +1

    I tried steaks for the first time and it smoked very badly, had to open windows even with the exhaust hood fan running on HI vented to the exterior. I'll try self-cleaning then air-frying again see if that helps with all the smoke.

  • @JenLamoureux
    @JenLamoureux 3 года назад +1

    I have this problem when I use the air fry function for my oven too. Short of putting in a real exhaust hood for the oven, I don't know what will solve it. I've used all the other oven functionality with no issues, but turning on the air fry always causes this issue. It's disappointing because I absolutely love the oven except for this.

    I have one and it does the same thing with whatever I air fry. I found that if you can keep water in the pan that your drippings are going into it, eliminates 90% of the smoke.

    I have the Maytag Air fry oven and the same thing happened to me. I got through it by adding a tiny amount of water to the drip pan underneath. And when it evaporated I added a little more. I think if you let it be steamy in there it will defeat the purpose of air frying so I only put a little water. It still made my oven a mess though. I'm really not sure the airfryer feature was worth it honestly.

    Need a bigger tray. Try lining it with parchment (not wax paper). Opening the oven constantly will keep it from cooking efficiently.
    I think they ought to put catalytic converters in ranges. I had an induction range by Kenmore, manufactured by Electrolux and it has a catalytic converter feature. The downside is that it can be filling with smoke and I wouldn’t know it until I open the oven.
    Anyone else wish they wouldn’t put windows in ovens? They never look good after you use the oven.

    Grease dripping onto hot steel will smoke every time. The convection would make it worse, that’s how you know it’s doing what it’s supposed to do. Alton Brown recommend steaming wings before air frying to render off some of the fat ahead of time. Most importantly though, replace the microwave with a real vented hood. The results your hoping for will probably involve smoke. You’ve just got to move it

    I just used this oven to air fry chicken drumsticks. Exact same oven, same fry tray, same drip pan setup. This was my first time air frying anything so I didn't know what to expect. 8 drumsticks at 400 deg for 20 minutes.
    The smoke was crazy! I had every window open and every fan blowing. Luckily it's a beautiful day. I just let it go for the entire 20 minute cook time.
    After it cooled, I did the clean up. Substantial drips on the bottom and splatter on every side. I made the mistake of putting the fry tray right on top of the burners to cool. Had to clean those too.
    I'm going to get a bigger drip tray just for this, but I'm hoping after a self clean the problem will minimize as yours has. Perhaps there's a protective coating from the manufacturer that has to burn off or something.
    At any rate, this oven is amazing! My old oven took half an hour to preheat and this beast does it in a minute or two. I've never seen another oven like it. So many great features. I just hope it gives me 15 years of good service like my old one. Oh, and the drumsticks were the best I've ever made!

I had to finally get rid of it because I could no longer buy electric burners but it has been in my family for almost 60 years. I asked the guy if I would get that same lifetime out of my new Frigidaire almost like this one but all electric and he just laughed at me. My parents paid over $1000.00 for the one I am replacing from the 60's and it was well worth the money.........not so sure about this one.
