Something to test is that within the PS2 settings you can also select 4:3 and wide-screen. So you should try the 4:3 to n PS2 and both options on dongle. Likewise with wide-screen.

Some Japanese ps2 shooters are 240p on ps2 and most of the ps1 library is in 240p. Hdmi usually doesn't work with 240p signals so your test is incomplete. You also didn't illustrate 480p vs 480i comparisons. So we do not know if it does Everything.

Its good to have options. This gives you ability to get RGB PS1 game output HDMI through its native AV port without modification so its another option worth considering.

The Retroscaler HDMI dongle always shows the OSD information (e.g. "RGBS 4:3")in the top right corner, it´s really annoying. Tried to find the pin to enable//disable the OSD on the chip, but all information is removed from SMD microchip topside.

I've gotten the PS2 to HDMI ( as written on the dongle) and it's good for PS2 games, but when I try to play a PS1 game on the pS2...no good...Does this new HDMI you're reviewing has the ability to play PS1 games on the PS2?

I bought this one and yes, It can display PS1 games on the PS2, although the quality of my Bitfunx PS2 to HDMI is much better for PS2 titles (It also doesn't display PS1 games just as yours)

I have this device and the green 'YPBPR 4:3' text in the top right is always there no matter what I do. Is there a way to fix that?

Sorry if i ask. What is the best solution to ouput ps1 on a ps2 phat. Since i see these chinese smaller dongles not always support ps1 from ps2 phat.. is r2x still the best option and worth the wait? :) or go oldschool and do component to hdmi upscale?

Your best option is something that will upscale 240p to either 720p or 1080p. Best option really is an AV to HDMI box or ideally a component to HDMI box
Recommendations that won't break the bank are the hd retrovision ps2 component cable and one of those AliExpress GBS Controls.

just got a ps2 and hooking it up to a 24in sony trinitron crt. going to use component cables to keep it as normal of a view as possible on that type of hardware; but im always curious as to which hdmi dongle i should get for it if/when i want to plug it into my 65in 4k. none of these are great, and the one's that are, are stewpid expensive lol. love your vids though so i'll keep watching in hopes of finding THE one that does it 100%!

Hi, I hope you could help me. I'm using the HDMI converter but I only receive 3 colors and the image is almost black and white. Not sure if the issue is on the converter or the PS2 unit itself

Those Chinese dongles are all the same (crap). A true 21-pin RGB-cable will amaze you. A true RGB-cable wont darken the image.

If you grab a cable that use RGB and Component signal.
You can use it on every single model PS2.
