Read Mozart really liked this instrument. I can hear why.
The vibrations are reminiscent of his vulgar humor
These period instruments have such a warm timbre. I always find it interesting to hear music the way the composer heard it.
This is extraordinarily beautiful. Everyone who loves the clarinet sound should fall asleep to this many many nights...
This should be a national anthem.
Oh, Canada!
Absolutely.
I agree
Magnifique trio !
Thanks :-)
This puts me into such a wonderful trance. As a clarinet player I would like to get the chance to play a basset horn at least once on my life. Get back to the historic roots of my instrument that I love so dearly.
Wonderful !
Beautiful
Thanks!

Splendid!Bravi!

I think Calixa Lavallée got her inspiration for the Ô Canada with this piece. It's only my hypothesis though...
The Basset Horn was invented when someone made a clarinet too long but then accidentally dropped and bent it.
:-) :-D
You forgot that the big floppy ears fell off at the same time and the clarinet was invented by two guys who didn't know each other and the bassoon was invented by a school board. Not to mention the...
Really congratulations :D! So beautiful!
Thanks!
These are what Basset Horns were in Mozart's time?
Hello Alto Saxophonist Erik Karl
yes these are period basset-horns from Mozart time. These are copies of original basset-horns made by instrument maker Theodor Lotz who lived in Wien same time as Mozart and they knew each other.
Amazing, great performance. I wish I had every instrument. One of tjese would be a great item to have.
Thanks
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🌹🌷
Hi! What fingerings system do these use? Any chance we could get a video going over what they look like throughout the instrument. how they work, etc?
+Steven Shockley It is period instrument - replicas of instruments made by Theodor Lotz and you can see it better in this video: ruclips.net/video/1FkivtEanqA/видео.html

Hi! Congratulations! I would like to purchase some plans of Basset horn. Would you recommend the Gottfried Schuster or the Heinrich Grenser? Many thanks!
Hello, thanks! From these two possibilities we would recommend Heinrich Greneser.
Thanks!
i dont know if the translation messed up, but i believe it is “cor anglais”
celestiale
Thank you
Would I get destroyed for saying these instruments have an almost oboe like quality on a clarinet’s sound??
Sounds like O Canada😂😂😂😂
Quenya Sindarin Now you know where Oh Canada comes from! Actually, no one has a monopoly on an arppegiated major triad...

Ooooo Canadaaaa
These are replicas of discovered set of three original basset horns in the castle Krásna Hôrka in eastern Slovakia made by a phenomenal instrument maker Theodor Lotz (1747/8 - 1792) from Pressburg and Vienna. Copies are made by Rudolf Tutz (Insbruck).
Grazie per le preziose informazioni !
Bravissimi! It sounds like heaven! BTW, why one of the performers positions his basset horn on the side, whilst the rest in the middle of the body? Is it just a matter of taste and comfort, or is there any other reason? Thank you!
Sounds very much like a clarinet.
yes, basset horn is sort of clarinet
Yes Clarinete ?
Basset horn - yes member of clarinet family :-)
why it built like that
Hello, it is just practical reasons - according to range of basset horn the lengths of instrument is too long to build the instrument straight - right hand would not reach “holes” so it has to be bent and inside the “box” at the end of the instrument there is a double-twisted inner space to even shorten the length more to not to have instrument long to ground - so sound can spread better
