    Read Mozart really liked this instrument. I can hear why.

    These period instruments have such a warm timbre. I always find it interesting to hear music the way the composer heard it.

    This is extraordinarily beautiful. Everyone who loves the clarinet sound should fall asleep to this many many nights...

    This puts me into such a wonderful trance. As a clarinet player I would like to get the chance to play a basset horn at least once on my life. Get back to the historic roots of my instrument that I love so dearly.

    The Basset Horn was invented when someone made a clarinet too long but then accidentally dropped and bent it.

    • @baobab1414
      @baobab1414  9 лет назад +15

      Hello Alto Saxophonist Erik Karl
      yes these are period basset-horns from Mozart time. These are copies of original basset-horns made by instrument maker Theodor Lotz who lived in Wien same time as Mozart and they knew each other.

    Chi ha costruito questi corni di bassetto repliche di quelli Viennesi?

    • @baobab1414
      @baobab1414  5 лет назад +1

      These are replicas of discovered set of three original basset horns in the castle Krásna Hôrka in eastern Slovakia made by a phenomenal instrument maker Theodor Lotz (1747/8 - 1792) from Pressburg and Vienna. Copies are made by Rudolf Tutz (Insbruck).

    Bravissimi! It sounds like heaven! BTW, why one of the performers positions his basset horn on the side, whilst the rest in the middle of the body? Is it just a matter of taste and comfort, or is there any other reason? Thank you!

    why it built like that

    • @baobab1414
      @baobab1414  10 месяцев назад

      Hello, it is just practical reasons - according to range of basset horn the lengths of instrument is too long to build the instrument straight - right hand would not reach “holes” so it has to be bent and inside the “box” at the end of the instrument there is a double-twisted inner space to even shorten the length more to not to have instrument long to ground - so sound can spread better
