  • This is Our First Time Watching Reaction to the movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). Monarch agents battle a slew of god-sized monsters, including the powerful Godzilla, who clashes with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate foe, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these long-extinct super-species-once believed to be nothing more than myths-reappear, they all compete for supremacy, putting the future of humanity in jeopardy.

In case you two weren’t keeping score let me bring you up to speed, in Godzilla 2014 that was the first time when the military screwed up by letting a megaton bomb fall into the possession of the MUTOs (and yes that’s what they were called) and now in this movie the military made an even bigger mistake by creating an oxygen destroyer and detonating it on both monster zero and Godzilla. In my opinion the military should stay out of monarch’s way and let them figure out how to deal with situations like that have to do with titans.

This was my first imax experience which was a joy for a lifelong Godzilla fan. There's so many hidden Easter eggs and references to the Godzilla franchise which makes sense as director Michael Dougherty is also a big Godzilla fan. Some small but noteworthy ones are the outposts of Mothra, Rodan, and Godzilla corresponding with their year debut with the exception being Ghidorah as Outpost 32 was a reference to Outpost 31 from The Thing. Plus the twin thing is a homage to the twin priestesses who summon Mothra. Ghidorah being alien is also a key part of his origin and is often seen as the Joker to Godzilla's Batman. The oxygen destroyer is a direct homage to the original 1954 Godzilla which was built by the Dr. Serizewa in that to kill Godzilla but to prevent the weapon from ending up in the wrong hands, he took his own life as it killed Godzilla. Also one more fun fact, this movie portrays Mothra and Godzilla as a symbiotic relationship so much so that the spots on her wings resemble Godzilla's eyes to deter predators

    "overpopulation my ass"
Overpopulation doesn't mean "we can't fit on this world anymore". It has to do with resource management. And due to people living longer and longer lives (in the past 120 years the life expectancy on average has literally more than doubled, from 31 to 72) on average, we keep using more and more resources because there are just way more of us alive.
So yes, we are definitely coming to a point where overpopulation may be a potential risk. Don't dismiss it. It's like denying that the world is getting hotter each year.

The twins are actually the reason why i have fall in love with the Mothra movies as a kid more as with the godzilla movies and she became my favorite of the Kaijū‘s followed by litte dorky Minya/Minilla
Sadly there is no chance that the Americanized Versions will ever include this part of lore.
Because otherwise first the US-Franchise makers would has to explain to the US-audience first that the original lore of the Japanese Kaijū-Genre, have actually evolved from simple stories about giant creatures rampaging on a regular base thorough Tokyo motivated only by rage in to entire movie franchises where they changed from being the cause of destruction into conscious self aware more humanized characters and with the purpose of being holly spirits/ Gods guarding Natur and live on earth.
Instead of (like in this movie mentioned) them just being some kind of different oversized prehistoric species which (like dinosaurs) have roamed the earth way before mankind even have existed and early Human tribes simply thought of them as gods and have started to worshipped them like they would be Gods.

She lays another egg somewhere safe in the case that she does, and when the egg hatches, all the memories, abilities, etc, get passed on to the larvae from the previous Mothra. So somewhere out there now, Mothra is alive again with all her previous memories

Kong and Godzilla were not originally in the same universe. Kong actually was never a match for Godzilla since he was only 32 feet tall and could be killed by bullets. But in 1963 Toho did a collaboration and did King Kong vs Godzilla. They had to increase the size of King Kong and add additional powers in order to make it a match. That was the only crossover though until this current monster verse. So they do share the same universe in the Hollywood Monster Verse. As for the Japanese movies with Toho, it is very very convoluted as to which movies tie into others. It depends on son the time period since they have rebooted Godzilla multiple times.

    Fun Fact:
There was an old Godzilla movie where Godzilla was the bad guy, and King Ghidorah (The Three Headed Monster) and Mothra had a thing between each other and fought together against him to protect the world.
The movie is called Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah (2001), and has the longest name in the franchise but it is rather called GMK for short.

1:19 To answer that question, Godzilla started out in the 1954 B&W Japanese movie “Gojira”. The movie itself was a metaphor for the destructive power of nuclear weapons and the effect it has on society, Godzilla pretty much being the used in the same light as the bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After that Godzilla evolved into fighting monsters and pretty much kickstarting the Kaiju film genre in Japan as well as the special effects method “suitmation”. He eventually does get his own manga too 😁.

The films were known for being campy with minature cities and people in creature costumes. There was a King Kong vs. Godzilla thing going going on back then too. Then the heisei era films from Godzilla 1984 to Godzilla vs. Destroyah which is a whole connective continuity, and that will be enough to understand monsters origin before Legendary took over in 2014 with Godzilla, Kong Skull Island, this movie you just watched, and lastly Godzilla vs. King Kong (remake)

    1) MUTO were the enemies for the 1st movie. That isn't their name though, as that just stands for Massive Unknown Terrestrial Organism (it's equivalent to the word UFO, which is Unidentified Flying Object)
    2) Mothra is actually an interesting kaiju in that she is technically immortal because she always has a spare egg, and will reincarnate her mind into it when her body dies (her memories carry over when she dies). Killing her only puts her out of commission for a little while. Also, if you had to pick one kaiju to study with your kid around, it's Mothra, as every incarnation across this universe has her as a purely benign, pro-human, kaiju. One thing that they leave out here is that Mothra has two humanoid beings that act as communicators with humans, and so she is one of a tiny number of kaiju who actually talk with humans. Also, technically, Mothra isn't a moth--she has moth wings, a hornet's stinger, and a praying mantis's arms.
    3) Rodan is male, and has historically swapped between being allied with Godzilla, Mothra, and their antagonists, depending on the medium. Basically, King Ghidora is always evil, Mothra is always good, and both Rodan and Godzilla swap between the protecting the earth side and the destroy humans side depending on who is writing it.
    4) You missed it, but the blast waves that Fire Godzilla generates make the sound of Mothra's cry when he does them. Basically, it's only possible by her burning out her current body and donating the energy to Godzilla to supercharge him for a very short time. He can also enter that form by consuming massive amounts of nuclear material.

So I’m a huge fan of this franchise since age 9 so hope you enjoy this series. Godzilla originally was made to be a allegory for nuclear destruction due to the atomic bomb testings of the 1950’s. The original film in 1954 showcases Godzilla as a tragic being that took his anger on Japan for his mutation of the atomic testings. After that, Toho who produced all of the Japanese films would make the character more of a hero/anti-hero/villain depending on the story or continuity it’s set in because the franchise has been rebooted a few times. This version of Godzilla that you’re seeing is more based on the 1960’s to late 70’s era of the character where he’s a protector of Earth. He’ll attack if you anger him though Lol. The characters Mothra, Rodan (the bird), and King Ghidorah (the dragon) are all from the old films. Ghidorah being Godzilla’s nemesis. I’m interested to see your reaction to Godzilla vs Kong in that the two are alphas in their own right and that is gonna lead to conflict. ;) @DosCavazos

Alien vs Predator were actually a comic book series before the movies came out. They did amazing with them in my mind as well. Also, in the second predator movie you can see a xenomorph/alien skull on it's trophy wall. So the idea for alien vs predator had been around for a while.
In the original movie, Godzilla was the bad guy. And they used an oxygen destroyer to kill Godzilla. Through it was implemented far differently.
Mothra is like, one of the least destructive and more of the kinder kaijus in the Godzilla monster verse. Gidora, or King Gidora, is one of my favorite Godzilla villains. In the original movie aliens brought Gidora to earth to take us over. Though I haven't seen the movie since I was kid. The aliens look like something from an acid dream 😂 And Godzilla vs king Kong was an older movie I used to own when I was a kid, me personally have always been a Godzilla fan over Kong. But I think y'all like the remake of it, because holy crap was I impressed with it usually actual theories about the planet that scientists are finding more and more evidence of. Such as the hollow earth theory. I adore these newer movies, trying to make the ideas of massive Kaiju more realistic, like they were the titans from way back when. Also, finally I could be wrong, but I think, um buckbeak. The volcano bat. Is Rodan.
