Carive Productions I have the a7iii and I have tasted the long battery life with the z-batteries, that’s why it’s the most important upgrades for me... 🤣
I’m a Nikon guy using before a used Sony a6300 APS-C camera with only a pancake lens. It’s my preferred go-getter camera I bring as test and preview of my construction projects. I like it’s sturdy sleek and minimalist body design I can pack on any bag - not bulky like my Nikons I secure in camera bags. For me, the longer lasting battery of the a6600 was a huge plus factor to get one and give away my a6300 body along with its battery grip - retaining only the pancake lens. I’m not so concerned with the imaging features considering I have my Nikons.
The a6600 imo, definitely makes the a6400 a more appealing camera. The battery life in the a6400 is a huge improvement over the a6300 and a6500 with the same battery. And if you use a tripod and gimbal reguarly, than IBIS isn't really that necessary. Not to mention, the IBIS on the a6500 is nothing to write home about. Just something to cater to the non-IS 16-55/2.8.
Some complaints were no flash. Well, I also have the A6400 which does have a flash. If all you are going to use is the 16-50 kit lens, the flash works. But put a new G or GM lens on the A6400, take a photo and you’ll see why the flash was deleted. You’ll have a half-moon shadow in the bottom left corner of all your photos where the larger lenses cut in front of the flash. Who uses a kit lens on an A6600? Maybe when you first get the camera and haven’t purchased any other lenses. No flash was not an issue to me. I love this camera and I just mounted the 24mm F1.4 GM lens on it. Hands down the best APS-C combo there is.
I'm upgrading for the big improvement in AF, massive improvement in adapted AF, and much faster silent shutter. Not to mention HLG, bigger batter, and a headphone jack.
can you guys tell me if it really has such a bad battery life? the CIPA rating for a6400 is 400 shots but that is with a flash turned on. Tell me the real deal Thanks!

As a a6000 user. I almost jumped at the 6400 because of the flip screen. Had my fingers crossed for the Z battery, and flip screen. I’m definitely getting this
For street photography the A6400 is great too. You had to shoot anyway at 1/320 or faster. IBIS is not needed. IBIS is only useful once you go slower than 1/100 or for video.
@@PotatoSoKawaii Yes, a talk about shutter speed in street photography would be a very interesting topic. I personally think that with the technology today motion blur is outdated. But that is just me.
A headphone jack can be found on external microphones, external power is available and can supply all the power you need via a SmallRig cage or can be placed in your pocket and power your phone at the same time! This is a vlogger's camera. Same poor movie button location for years and no 4K in 60p. Good luck reaching it from the front. Big ouch! Sony doesn't listen enough but Fujifilm does. Watch for the Fuji X-H 2 or the X- T4...!
Kai, thanks for sharing. I was waiting for A6600 and some new lenses and your vid greatly helped! IMO, still APS-Cs from Sony is less appealing than its Full Frames. When MFTs from Panasonic is compred to FFs from Sony, there are really good pros like 4k60p, 10bit, FHD 180p, crazy IBIS, unlimited recording, the best screen & EVF, and etc by loosing AF, shallow DOF and low light performance. However, when u get Sony's APS-Cs rather than its FFs, you don't get much. The flippy screen, unlimited recording, slightly better AF. Yeah these are good, but definitely not enough. The price isn't good as well since A7M3 is now a bargain and there are many great budget lense options for FFs whereas u have few good budget options for APS-C. 🤔
I don't know why, but it looks good with the stepup rings and bigger filters... And Kai, I hope Lok and his family are safe after last nights events in HK...
@@chanuki2195 I've got an a6000 and have been trying to figure out what to upgrade to. I'm thinking a6400 at this point. a6300 doesn't have eye AF, a6400 does. That's big if you're going to do any portraits.
I don't regret buying A6400 because it is much cheaper than A6600. Before I decided to buy A6400, I thought about buying A6500 with its ibis. However, I am just buying a camera for taking still photos primarily; with or without ibis does not really matter that much to me. Of course, A6600 has a bigger battery. It doesn't matter me that much either since I already bought two backup batteries for my A6400. Overall, I think I made a right decision.
Unless you're completely bought into APS-C glass, a used A7III can be had for the same money. A7III is the biggest problem for the A6600.... Full Frame sensor, 2 card slots, more focusing points and faster possible shutter speeds. The A7III continues to devour everything.
not everyone is into used. generally only "pros" would need those extra features you mention, and why would they even consider getting an A6000 series camera? however, when the A7IV is released, and the price of the A7III drops, then there will be no reason to get the A6600. except for cheaper lens options, and better video.
@@n1ngnuo Not saying that they killed the entire brand, just saying they have made a better camera IMO. Comparing it with the Fuji XH1 is definitely interesting, the only real issue is that right now in the US you can get the XH1bundled with a battery grip and the 16-55 2.8 for about $1700 in the US. Of course the Fuji lens and body are both bigger and with that battery grip it will make the whole package just that much chunkier, which might be a minus or a plus depending on preferences. The Sony benefits from a newer AF system and no 4K crop which is definitely noteworthy.

I'm just pissed it's not good enough to warrant upgrading from my A6500 right now. Sony must be taking cues from Canon on how to disappoint.
....yep Sony really has been disappointing in the world of digital photography in recent years, huh!...lol.
This is the camera that makes me want to hop over to Sony
I think Fujifilm X-T3 might be better with 4k 60 fps.
No IBIS & shitty battery life
So true
y X-T3 is top notch in the apsc segment. battery life is quite nice und who need ibis? There are things like a tripod or lenses with IS.....
@@Hornbauer2010 why haven't you bought one yet?
And 10bit
THANKS! You saved me from buying an a6400 by just a day or two. Already had it in my Amazon Cart.
The a6400 currently looks like the best option if you insist on Sony.
I love the battery
I’m late to the party ! Only just bought this and started uploading. These videos are very helpful! Thank you!
Very impressive but does it compare to the Yashica Y35 ?
I love your videos and learning about this powerful Sony a6600. Much appreciate it my brother. From East Harlem NYC peace and love family...
All nice to have but I'm still ok with my A6400. I'm more excited about the new lenses!
Was waiting for this, now I think I'm leaning towards a6400.
I'll stick to my 6500... it's still a good camera and i don't need every technical step forward
same, i've got my a6400 a month ago, not a huge difference, nothing really.
Yeah, my a6500 from 2017 is still holding well. Both physically and tech-wise
In Sydney. They sell A6600 for $2200 Au. While Sony A6400 sales for $1350 au. I’m going for A6400 second hand for sure.
Tell me the real deal
Thanks!
A wonderfully practical camera for most people. Great vid
"Canon fan over there" :D
Getting test video with the Sony types, and wow!!! Very great visuals 👍
Very nice, still waiting for the A7siii though.
Will give you time to save up the 4k+ you will need to buy it.
Thanks for keeping this review concise without all the "cinematic" intros and blabber that many other reviews have. I am busy and only have time for details in a review, "Just the facts man" . is all I need
Yes, and someone who has actual hands on and knows the 6500 inside out for the compare. Very good. The Z battery a huge plus.
Still happy with my a6000 when taking photos on vacation. I don't need those extra stuffs. lol
I’ve never been more nervous than watching Kai vlog by grabbing the lens. What on earth Kai.
Sony now I really hope you're gonna release a firmware update with eye-tracking autofocus support in video for a6400
As a a6000 user. I almost jumped at the 6400 because of the flip screen. Had my fingers crossed for the Z battery, and flip screen. I’m definitely getting this
I’ve never clicked so fast
I love that handful size of APS camera
Wow it's a miniaturized a7iii !!! but with flippy screen !
as an a6500 owner, the selfie screen and battery are really the only things that interest me about it
Expensive... Can get a good used A7iii for that much. UPDATE: Watching the announcement, should only be $1400 on release, not so bad.
For street photography the A6400 is great too. You had to shoot anyway at 1/320 or faster. IBIS is not needed. IBIS is only useful once you go slower than 1/100 or for video.
My kind of street photography is dat I use a really slow shutter speed to get that motion blur effect so I think IBIS is really useful for me
@@PotatoSoKawaii Yes, a talk about shutter speed in street photography would be a very interesting topic. I personally think that with the technology today motion blur is outdated. But that is just me.
you must have a gimbal for the video. ibis is useless.
Why this over an A7RII or A7II or a used a7III?
The price is so huge.
obviously for you, no reason. however everyone is different.
this is exactly the camera i though the A6400 was going to be, an A6500, with A7iii/A9 features, and i am estatic they've released it
A headphone jack can be found on external microphones, external power is available and can supply all the power you need via a SmallRig cage or can be placed in your pocket and power your phone at the same time! This is a vlogger's camera. Same poor movie button location for years and no 4K in 60p. Good luck reaching it from the front. Big ouch! Sony doesn't listen enough but Fujifilm does. Watch for the Fuji X-H 2 or the X- T4...!
Vikingdescendent umm you can map it to a different button...like the shutter release button
Absolute legend. Thank you.
Omg that rolling shutter 😂 And I was thinking about Sony 🤦
Kai's street photography today 🔥🔥
I'm so excited when I saw your video.
It's really good but I don't justify the price. Can buy an a73 + Tamron 28-75 for roughly the same price as the a6600 with this new 16-55 f2.8
Thank you, I love your reviews.
I never clicked faster.
Finally. This is awesome.
Well it looks like I can finally upgrade my Sony NEX-6. To an A6500, hopefully those prices will drop
Same!
I don't know why, but it looks good with the stepup rings and bigger filters...
And Kai, I hope Lok and his family are safe after last nights events in HK...
I still love my Sony A6000
So thanks but no thanks
Im planning to buy a6300. Is it worth it or a6000 is good enough for photo/video? Thanks
@@chanuki2195 I'd go for the 6400...you can get it for about 850-900 nowadays..
@@chanuki2195 I've got an a6000 and have been trying to figure out what to upgrade to. I'm thinking a6400 at this point. a6300 doesn't have eye AF, a6400 does. That's big if you're going to do any portraits.
Alright! 18-35mm art is my workhorse right now. Cant upgrade to full frame because of my lens line-up.
I couldn’t agree more. The a6000 has the best 1080p. That’s all it’s needed for RUclips really.

When he said a cannon fan over there, I lost it hahahahahah xD
I'm gonna buy an a6000 next week😅
A6000 is great. It's what I am using :)
Good plan.
what price do you think they will drop to?
Dont worry except for the lack of in body stabilisation it's all you'll ever need for hobbyist stuff or a beginning pro or a B cam
Get an a6100 instead. It will have better auto focus, better colours, and flip up screen. It's more expensive tho
BEAST!
Ok, *where is the A7S III?*
*where*
Over there
Overheating in the corner.
@@pahwraith Fair response.
I'm fine with the a6400 purchase. The price is nicer than the 6600. I'm more curious about the differences in the 6100.
Nope, still sticking to my a6300 for a couple of years i guess. Not many reasons to upgrade.
Kai: the Sony a6600 is probably the best aps-c camera body
Fujifilm x-t4: hold my beer, im about to end this mans career
Unless you're completely bought into APS-C glass, a used A7III can be had for the same money. A7III is the biggest problem for the A6600.... Full Frame sensor, 2 card slots, more focusing points and faster possible shutter speeds. The A7III continues to devour everything.
not everyone is into used. generally only "pros" would need those extra features you mention, and why would they even consider getting an A6000 series camera? however, when the A7IV is released, and the price of the A7III drops, then there will be no reason to get the A6600. except for cheaper lens options, and better video.
Sony just killed the 90D 😂 it's hard to see anyone buying this though when you can get a A7III for the same price
@@n1ngnuo Not saying that they killed the entire brand, just saying they have made a better camera IMO. Also I work in a camera store I'm not really a 'consumer' so it's part my job to be in the know about the global camera market and it interests me, I'm aware that Canon has been leading but recently most of the brand's have been falling. Canon is down 10%, but by the latest financials... Nikon is down 12%, Sony 15%, Fuji 15%, and Olympus is down 25%. So I guess Canon is the winner at losing! You're right though people should focus less on the camera industry and more on shooting, but it's always good to be aware of what's going on out there and if we can always have better. It's good to see that you're satisfied with your D810 it's a very impressive camera and with the right prime it's a beast ! I'm currently using a Sony A7 III with a 16-35mm I was able to afford it from staff discount of course if your heavily invested into a system I implore you not to switch even if you could afford the whole Sony system because what you have currently is perfect !
Good, thorough review, thanks!
Sony a6600 vs canon 90D which is best for photography n videography
I would go toward the Sony a6600 because Canon does not has in body image stabilization or 4k at 24fps.
Sony. The 90D is just lacking in video big time. No 24 fps, no log profile.
Note: The a6600 is more expensive than the 90D. The a6500 is more price comparable.
Which is the best sir kai w
kai pressing burst is like car channels doing burnouts
What's your main time job kai??
Comparing it with the Fuji XH1 is definitely interesting, the only real issue is that right now in the US you can get the XH1bundled with a battery grip and the 16-55 2.8 for about $1700 in the US. Of course the Fuji lens and body are both bigger and with that battery grip it will make the whole package just that much chunkier, which might be a minus or a plus depending on preferences. The Sony benefits from a newer AF system and no 4K crop which is definitely noteworthy.
Yeah, glad I just sold my a6500 yesterday LOLOLOLOL
hey kai, its great to see that you were in Kingston, London and shooting there. I live there, I wish I knew So, I would've come and met you....
Really glad I bought the a6400... 🙄 jk overall really happy with the a6400 and don't think I will switch to the new one
Andrew German I’m debating returning mine, but maybe not since the price makes the a7iii look like the obvious better option
is the battery really that bad? how much shots without flash?
I own the a 6500, and i am going to sell it to help me pay for the sony a7 R 4. We all know new cameras come out so i saved $2k in a year. I will probobly not buy one of these low end cameras again. My profession is not a pro photography. Its just a hobby
@@moazzamhussain4332 honestly the battery life isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I picked up four extra high rated aftermarket batteries and I had two left after an entire wedding shoot.
@@tbucsclw1 thanks for the feedback!
What??! Not a review on the Insta360 Go camera that has just completely filled my feed?😄 Much welcome relief and great review!👍
Sony A7R4 = 👍
Sony RX100VII= 👍
Sony A6600 = 👎
Sony A6100 = 💩
Awesome Review Kai
Nice batman (batgirl 🤷🏻♂️) you’re wearing 😃
Nice first Lok.
Thanks to sony, saving my money. Old sensor, low resolution LCD, 4k only 30fps, again do not buy.
No thats a new/improved sensor. I had the sony a6300 and bought the a6400 and its way better colors autofocus, screen is brighter so u can see outside in the sun. Video is not way better, but i mean this camera is entry level. If you want 60 fps and you are only into video get the black magic 4k which is a video camera..i think sony a6400,a6600 is a great entry level camera for the price and for what it offers:)
Ps Actually the lcd is amazing. In real life i compared the lcd with canon 5d markiv and to me it looked better. But a6300 was disapointing
Amazing camera- only thing I can think of to (possibly) improve it is if viewfinder was able to be pulled out and tilted upwards similar to the add on accessory OLED viewfinder which was sold for some of the original NEX range. I own it and being able to tilt it up 90 degrees is very handy in some situations. I'll bet Sony will offer the tilting feature sometime in the future. Love SONY.
I'm struggling to find a reason why someone would buy this over the A7iii...
Size and cheaper lens I'm contemplating if I should buy this.
$600 difference
Size & selfie screen + $600
@@1FreddieCurtis In the UK it will cost £1,450 which is the exact same as the A7iii at the moment
@@AC-ey1tn You can just swap into apsc mode and use the same lenses though.
I always love your Review videos. Thanks for the updating.
Too small difference with A6500, probably getting A7iii instead..
I have the 6500 and the A7m3.... Since I bought the A7m3 I only use this camera. The image quality is significant better and also because of the much better lenses available for full frame. Just buy a A7m3 + Tamron 28-75 2.8 and you are good to go. Don't waste money for Sony APS-C.
PixMotions is a73 way better than a65 for the image quality?
@@Hunselmann Wrong or save a bundle for lenses.
@@deelau2223 It is. Better image quality in video and photo mode (sharpness and colors). But also better AF, better battery (ok the 6600 gets it now), better screen, noise isn't such a big difference to be honest. And in the end you get the full frame look.
I actually thought it was a prank but daaaaaamn, once i get the chance i´ll upgrade my lovely a6000, not shure if the a6600 will be the final choice, but it does look amazing.
Same spot. I have the A6000 now for some years (5 years?). These are all nice features but they still aren't the killer camera for me to upgrade.
