Note: I didn’t have a ton of context around the IGN France thing/didn’t look very far into it because I frankly don’t take them seriously as an outlet. They aren’t an actual part of IGN, just some tiny outlet that pays for the IGN name for attention (which obviously worked out for them here). All I knew was that they said something people were mad about, and my stance is still that they’re allowed to say shit, and people are allowed to be mad about it. As far as I can tell the comment that got a lot of attention was IGN France saying whoever designed Eve has “never seen a woman” which, yeah, is so obviously an insane attention-seeking thing to say.
wait i thought conservatives were against this kind of over sexualization because jesus? isn't anime aesthetic probably more appealing to leftists because it's a representation of women expressing themselves freely and not hiding their bodies (which is something that religion despises). not saying that's what the devs have in mind, but i don't understand how the values behind this suddenly got backwards
@@oowaz Dude this whole culture war shit is dumb as hell. These people don't have real values it's all about owning the other side so it all gets twisted up and none of makes sense.
@@oowaz Honestly, either political side has arguments for both. Conservatives can hate sexiness because they believe it immodest and immoral through religious opinions, but also support sexiness because they have a prolific female sex ownership culture (save the date weddings, fathers giving permission to marry daughters, etc.) and they're excessively voyeuristic when the women they're looking at aren't their personal friends or family.
Liberals can hate sexiness because they believe women are manipulated or coerced into sexualized behaviors by individuals or the greater culture at large, but also support it when they have evidence the sexiness is entirely from the agency of the women being sexy.
@@SuperGrooby yeah but even how you describe it still just sounds like conservatives claiming their L is a W. no logical consistency
Well, I thought the main character was an unbelievable humanoid specimen, but then I found out that it’s modeled after a real person…!! I had no idea people can even look like that in real life.😮
"can confirm: she also caked up" - Thank you for doing in depth research alanah. i appreciate it.
The editing at the end with the slow zoom and commentary is absolutely hilarious 😂 👏👏👏
That slow zoom deserves a slow clap.
The webcam dying was a bit of brilliance. Had difficulty focusing on what Alana was saying because I was laughing so hard
Counterpoint: I enjoy more... grounded characters a bit more and hyperattractive characters in shiny/glossy skintigth outfits in video games can be an early indicator that the world building won't be super compelling. Every single character in a world being super hot is just kind of weird. Where are the normies? (e.g. Witcher 3 has a hot main cast but you also have ugly peasants spitting at your feet) And of course, there's the suspension of disbelief. Like, when the female version of the same armor is just boob-armor and looks like it couldn't possibly protect anything, that can be annoying for me.
Like, I'm not prude at all and I happily and frequently watch pr0*n on the internet to jank the noodle. But I don't need "super-sexy character" in every single media I consume. Like in the case of Stellar Blade, it doesn't really affect me because I don't care for the game anyway because story & characters being bland is a bit of a deal breaker for me. But I honestly, when I watched the first trailers years ago I was already thinking "I have my doubts about these characters being part of a well-crafted and compelling narrative.". On the bright side, I'm looking forward to the ... uh... fanmade videos of the stellar blade character by the same people who so expertly make overwatch "fan-videos", if you catch my drift. 😏
But I also found the discussion about Aloy in Horizon: Forbidden West really wild, because some people were upset that she isn't atractive enough. Or that protagonist from the new Ubisoft Star Wars game not looking hot enough. That game will have SO MANY actual issues, so the main charachter "not being to the taste of every horny male on earth" is just an absurd complaint to me.
That's some Blizzard-character level of ass.
There is a very big issue with a lack of nuance in debate and discourse these days.
The black and white, pass / fail mindset that many tend to have is exhausting.
If it was just black/white, pass/fail, I feel that would be an improvement to what it is.
In discourse these days, there's an underlying _effort_ to take what is said, misunderstand it, and get offended by that new "claim".
Not too long ago, I commented "a guy who doesn't groom himself at all will probably have a beard", and someone decided that must mean "if a guy has a beard, that means he doesn't groom himself at all", and got offended - despite the fact that that was not at all what I said.
I also feel like that the "balanced" nuance is completely gone. People are stuck within one direction but can't go the middle, rational path.
@@hyperturbotechnomikeYES. Was struggling to find the words to say exactly that.
With a pinch of wasted energy raging about inconsequential topics. Plenty of music in the past has made it as far as goverment hearings on it's decency. I always think; if you hate the material so much why are you focused on it so much?
It's at a point where people get upset if you have any nuance in your answer, when asked about YOUR opinion. I was informed I was a "Fake Fan" for saying I lliked the Fallout series on Prime, but I had issues with some of the pacing, and the way the Brotherhood camp was shown to be... But that I was willing to give it a chance, as I haven't finished the season yet.
I went down a rabbit hole based on the question about female anatomy in space and I have found an answer from a real astronaut; yes they float as do male bits unless held down by clothing. I was actually stunned by how easy this was to find and more importantly by how seriously this question was asked and answered.
Thank you. I was affraid i would not have the answer for a lot longer.
I will never be able to keep a straight face when watching astronauts now
Space folks have looked into allll these kind of questions. One of the time legit necessary science happens to be super fun
I draw the line when articles criticize the people who like the product instead of the actual product they are reviewing.
Definitely agree. This is extremely rare tho.
I think people imagine it is attacking them personally when it does not. Fandoms become so attached to a product that when you criticize it they think you are criticizing them too.
@@charalanahzard try The Gamer, you'll find plenty of that
@@charalanahzard yeah? How about that Hogwarts? Or several other indy games that have come out where articles from Kotaku, IGN, Paragon, and others have used it to trash the people that like the game as opposed to anything to do with the game itself (other than in Hogwart's case, its affiliation with THE ACTUAL CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE).
"As a human who, presumably, cares about a functioning society" should be on your merch
I don't know... you start having functioning societies, and diversity of opinions and, before you realize, you catch a democracy. Shudder.
@@ferranferran6955 therein is the problem. Those that think like IGN can't stand others having a different opinion than them. They are instantly labeled an incel istaphobe if they have a different opinion than IGN. Even the game director's wife who was the character artist who developed Eve herself. Alana is just a hypocrite in saying "IGN is allowed to trash and their editors make death threats against those that don't think like them." But gets pissy when that other side returns the favor. If there is one thing Alana is very, very good at, it's being a massive hypocrite. Hell, we have a new "urinalist" by the name of Ryan Easby who writes for PC Gamer, etc, who has said that people like Mark Kern (a founding board member of Blizzard/ Activision and one of the original lead developers for WoW) should never know another moment of peace in that man's life. Kern's mistake? Disagreeing with Easby's stance on games. Again, pointing out that Alana is NOTHING if not a massive hypocrite.

Same. Who want’s to be running around as Colin Robinson from WWDITS?
Right. Like this is a sci fi fantasy game. Of course characters will be hot and like a model. This isn't a gritty realish game like let's say The Last of Us where characters are more real to life. That's not what Stellar Blade is going for 😆
i see you are a person of culture

I am intrigued by this "Boob Wars" concept. Perhaps the premise for a new cinematic universe?
Ya, and it takes place on Boob World too!
It's not a boob war but I remembered for no particular reason the movie A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell.
Previously, on Boob Wars
I'm sure there's an anime covering that. Keijo?
Boob Wars is a concept that Flashgitz would take on. Similar to their previous videos like the Console Wars
These types of discourse or so dumb. Last year we got Baldur's Gate 3! Full nudity and sex in games with damn good story and characters to boot. People can like and dislike whatever they want, but when you're telling someone what they can and can't like, you're wrong.
The difference between the sexuality of Baldurs Gate 3 and Stellar Blade is that the former has a "queer ascetic" while the later appeals to the male gaze. Safe Horny is a concept that would apply here.
There were still complaints about it having queer romance and people of color in it. Luckily it came out before the DEI crusade. We’d never hear the end of it.

The only problem I had with the IGN France piece was that the author didn't have the journalistic integrity to google the game for 5 minutes to know that the character is based on a 3D scan of an actual IRL Korean model. Even if the in-game model was "augmented", saying that it is "A Doll Sexualized By Someone Who Has Never Seen A Woman" is so disrespectful for the model.

I mean who google litteraly every single female character if she's based on a real person. She's a doll sexualized, let's not pretend that game didn't market her as this, but the ''Who Has Never Seen A Woman" was unprofessional. With this logic every developper never have Never Seen A Woman or Men
@@Jfray252 Well, if you are writing an article about a specific female character and are going to assert, within that article, that that specific female character isn't based on a real person....the first thing you should probably do is google to see if that specific female character is based on a real person or not...I believe they call that something like 'journalistic integrity' .👍

Jokes apart, I don't think there are only two scores for majority 0 or 10, it's just nowadays people think anything below 8 makes it a mid or a bad game. Most Stellar Blade fans are actually okay with 8/10 scores. And now that we have metacritic, since low scores drag down the meta scores, fans are even more concerned. Absolutely agree with this. People need to chill. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Especially reviewers, whose entire job can be boiled down to "opinion-giver"
Don't think anyone but the rabid culture war havers on Twitter are doing any of that. But that happens for any topic. Stellar blade is just a stray bullet from all the sweet baby stuff a few months ago. If anything an inverse. A sour baby if you will
I swear that lately I start hearing about controversy more as a couter-argument to an opinion that no one has expressed yet. I think it sort of reveals that the people who think this game is anti-woke don't know what "woke" is and also just have the worst takes just as a provocation to basically no one. Personally, the first stuff I saw about this game made it seem really generic, not in a "hot babes means bad game" way, but more in a "this seems like a pastiche of ideas that were better executed in other games" way.
“If they’re there, and they’re on somebody naturally”. I think you’re going to catch hands for that one… good luck. Amazing commentary.

I do agree people should agree to disagree lol my issue is that people are saying she has no personality when she’s literally super kind hearted and caring and is ready to help people in need. She’s says in the game “I don’t need a reason to help people” she’s a great character reminiscent of Nausica from the ghibli film. Characters call her an angel in the game because of what she is and she proves with her actions that they are correct.
Don't talk about her personality.
To some people (not saying i agree or disagree with them) that is no personality, or rather it's lack of depth. It has nothing to do with her in particular, but it happens with a lot of boy/girl scout characters. Take superman especially when compared to someone like batman, for the longest time superman was called boring in comics because most of the time he was just "good for goodness sake". There are people who want characters to do good things, but to also have an edge or a drive to them.
Yeah, but that’s a one note personality. If you have no interesting flaws or struggles to balance out that nice nature… guess what? That’s a one dimensional character.
And good hearted characters don’t have to be one-note either. Let’s take Ichiban for example, everyone loves him, I know I do! He’s loveable, kind-hearted, optimistic, and he always tries to do the right thing. But he’s also an idiot, he doesn’t take things as seriously as he should, and he’s definitely in over his head. These flaws balance out with his more positive traits to create an interesting character, regardless of either or not they’re nice.
A short list of 'heroic' character traits is not a personality, cripes your standards are on the floor.
@@Eunostos chill it’s also okay if characters are meh. There’s a big gulf between atrocious and all time good. Especially if in this case Eve is more of an avatar. Nothing particularly interesting but nothing hypocritical or badly written. Just neutral
It is crazy that people will invest all this time and money making a beautiful game and then decide the characters be bland or down right ugly. Why this is even a conversation is crazy and goes to show how crazy social media has made us that people don’t even know how to run their businesses anymore
Oh Alanah, you're such a breath of fresh air, thank you
1:19 to 1:47 is so random and hilarious it really made me LOL😂🤣this is standup material!
Why do people act like 7 is a bad review now anyways? Not everyone likes the same stuff, I could give something a 10 and it’s a 6 for someone else. Numbers don’t really mean anything anyways. The biggest critique I’ve seen of this game is the story and characters, even from people who loved it. Nothing wrong with having flaws. Every game has its flaws. And sometimes they are different for each reviewer.
As a journalist, my jaw dropped to the floor when IGN France’s chief editor stated that EVE, the main character, does not represent a “real woman,” but the model was based on, well.. a real woman. He also noted that the model looked like a "doll" and that the creators had "never seen a real woman." The comment was highly offensive as it insulted the creator's wife and illustrated a lack of professionalism on his part.
While IGN stated that the media outlet is an independent branch, the company had to apologize nonetheless.
Then they tried to say it was mistranslated but french speaking people said it wasnt
The base body model is a real woman. The face is not, nor the jiggle physics.
Not that i care about her looking like a doll, i think EVE is beautiful, but if you look at the model and her face and then look at EVE they do not look even slightly the same and to suggest so is actually hilarious. EVE' face look like a doll made in a video game engine. Again i thinks shes beautiful, but representative of the model shes based on she is not in my opinion. There are other characters in the game that look more like Shin Jae Eun(The model) than EVE does hahahahaha
@@HuginMunin Actually real life does indeed...jiggle. In fact it's usually proof of..."authenticity" in most cases.
@@Sombrek Eve's body was based on the model, not the face.
