- Learn how to light and film an interview in a boring space with expensive and budget lights.
Film is a two dimensional acquisition of a three dimensional space. Sometimes good lighting practices can mean the difference between a flat boring shot and an excellent shot that impresses and flatters.

uhm.. ok so this video was suggested out of nowhere and it was amazing and simple, yet thorough and professional yet chill. like I loved it. wth!
That’s a pin!
Epic Light Media 😲 🙌🏼
Super Manny its awesome!!
My name is also Manny, and I concur.
🎶How do you solve a problem like Maria...🎶
That mirror trick blew my mind :o
but it felt like some plants outside the window with a harsh sunlight.
Thank you for your comment! I went back to the video to look for that part after reading it. wow.
Yea.... me too!!
Kids would learn better if this is how things were taught in schools. And that whistle solo... incredible.
"How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" from The Sound of Music..... LOL
People, stop subscribing. We need to keep this channel a secret.
LOL... the old reverse psychology trick. My channel currently has zero content and one subscriber. I've got the whole "stuck figuring out my studio setup" problem. I've been writing scripts and adding posts to my blog, but every time I set the camera up, I just shake my head at the result and end up deleting it in disgust. Oh well... back to trying more things to get a look I'm happy with :).
Exactly! )))
Right? He said just over 30,000 in April, and now it's practically June and there are 51,200 subs. What happened?!
AGREEEEE
OH shoot your right, we can't all have superior lighting knowledge. Otherwise we won't stand out from the rest...
Love your work! Specifically the straight to the point part without hours of vlog beforehand!
I hate those tutorials
Please don't stop being creative, your videos are fucking perfect. Brilliant education, simple, entertaining, straight to the point. Love it!
Dude, I love your style, your tone, and the underhanded nature of your humour. Thanks for the AMAZING content. This is legit soooooooo helpful and I feel like this channel has pulled back the curtain on the whole lighting game.
Option "C" is fantastic. I liked the video very much.
I literally just discovered this Chanel like an hour and now im on an Epic Light Media video marathon. Love all your content. Great sense of humor
My favorite part of this video was when it was finally over so I could hit replay and watch it again
One of the most entertaining tutorials of how to light an interview I saw in along time.
Thank you
Love this killer content. Great work, guys!
Glad to see your channel blowing up. I think it's going a lot farther👍
Also, whistling Maria while adjusting the setup🤣 you the man!
I love your teaching style. It’s so... “not RUclipsry”. I’m not even learning anything new lol. Except for that mirror trick, noice. Keep up the good work 👍
@Matthew Herrington Oooh, I like that comparison.
I used to be teaching photography lighting 20 years ago and used these tricks.
Now, we have LED bulbs and more!
All of these just came back to my memory!
Thank you very much for my total recall!
I'll be back!
My respect for lighting has never been greater since watching this channel. Inspired. Thank you.
I literally can’t believe how valuable your content is. Just found this channel a week ago. Subbed after two videos. This makes video 4.
Thanks for the great work and occasional chuckles!
I’m on my way to film my first interview as well as being the interviewer without any assistant. Watching your video just bumped my confidence up and gave me the positive energy I needed! Thank you so much and of course I’m not subscribing and disliking this video 😂😂😂 bless 🙏🏾✌🏾
Probably one of the best tutorial videos on RUclips period. Very nicely produced.
YES! Challenge yourself with more budget options! Convert the non-believer!
watch till the end
fantastic! thank YOU! love your channel
"D" was my favorite setup, you are very patient and long winded. Thank you for being a great content creator.
You executed the content of this video like a boss. The knowledge is great, but the execution of the delivery of the knowledge is A+. You carefully emphasize key terms while displaying abundantly clear visual examples for an audiovisual slap in the face of easy-to-understand knowledge. I'm not even a video person, this just happened to be recommended during my lunch and I clicked on it, watched the whole thing, liked and subscribed.
What a compliment!!!! I’m so happy that this video was helpful for someone who isn’t even in film. Much thanks!
The tutorial is perfectly explained, and I needed something like this for a project! Thanks a lot! 😁
I could watch an extended interview with the subject matter in any lighting situation. I’m glad you showed cheaper lighting setup. It’s great to try to think outside the box. Location shoots go wrong and at that point, it’s all you have.
Amazing video. I have seen videos for years trying to show the same concept and have never come close to the quality and easiness shown on this and your other videos. Keep em comin!
Love this, the idea w/ the mirror!
I was thinking about starting a youtube channel with filmmaking tutorials, but for some reason i didn't start... Your videos are really inspiring and i decided to just start! i'm gonna upload my introduction video tomorrow!
Serious genius stuff Sir! Thanks for sharing and caring !
You're on fire! I'm always on a budget unfortunately and seeing that budget lightning BLEW MY MIND 🤯
How can one video provide more value then an entire film course?! Love it!!
Straight forward, fun and creative as always! Keep up the good work!
MORE of this type of video please. Very satisfying to know the outcome of dirt cheap vs expensive. 4 thumbs up !
Ya know I've been watching all these filmmaker youtubers for a while and thinking how awesome stage lighting can be put to use for filmmakers. Watching you gaff tape a mirror just drove that theory home. Some stage lights on a dimmer with gobos would make that boring room incredible. That being said being creative like this: two thumbs up ebert & roeper
Please keep doing these!!!!!!! This is a real class. So many others want to charge outrageous prices that every one cant always afford. Thank you so much for your probono work. God bless u
I love you so much please continue to do what you do!
really enjoyed this video, thanks for taking time out to make these
Love your videos. Thank you for showing how it would look with the budget lights. Great tutorial.
Oh boy! I like this guy. He is hilarious in his own funny way. Very educative video.
You guys are seriously tremendous. Not sure we deserve you but definitely glad you're here !
I don’t understand why there aren’t more videos like this GOLD
Subscribed. Great content and delivery. Love it.
The best is showing what normal looks like then gradually making it better.
Dude, I can't explain how much you read my mind with this video! I wanted to know the difference with backlight and side light hahaha and you did exactly that when I asked myself for it! Great job!
Love your videos man keep it up
Clean, easy to understand. Thanks!
Just right on time for my virtual graduation videos! Thanks!!!
Great and simple setup! Thank you very much! Best!
Thank you for all your work
Watched this one upside down. We followed your last instructions to a "tee." clicked the thumbs down and then clicked that funny foreign word in the big box next to the upside down bell thingy. Since we kinda recognized the bell icon, we decided to click on that to notify you that we followed your instructions. Thank you for the clarity.
The totally rigged setup was the best--for obvious reasons. The second best was actually the last option you showed us with the budget setup. Just knock the side light down another 1.5 to 2 stops and it'll make the subject pop off the screen. We tell people all the time that budget lighting is not just about budgeting $ is about budgeting what is important in the scene.... Since it's just a boring wall, better lighting on the subject is the wiser use of the cheap lights--unless the back wall/location is important to the interview.
But there again, our musical interludes on set are usually "if I only had a brain."
Thank you so much for this!!
Good job! Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you for this video!
I really dig your channel. It's obvious technique but nicely put together. Appreciated!
Best setup - D for sure....Great Video. Thanks man...

Man, you are doing an amazing job! Thanks a lot, it’s so pleasant to watch you. And you speak very distinctly which is very useful for non English speakers.
Great video! I love it
Came for the sweet lighting, stayed for the even more dope whistling of How Do You Solve a Problem. It's the sound of music to my ears.
loved this video!!!
Love it , thanks
Thats all I used 20yrs ago in the beginning doing B-glam images longer exposures. Glad to have studio lights now!
Unexpected bonus bit with the budget lights. thanks for the tips

The cheap setup is so good!
That mirror idea with the tape on it looked excellent. I was not expecting that. Appreciate all the info and tricks!
