Karla McLaren is an award-winning author, social science researcher, and empathy pioneer. Her work focuses on a “grand unified theory of emotions,” in which she moves us beyond looking at some emotions as negative and some as positive, and instead helps people see the genius that lives inside every single emotion.
Sounds True was founded in 1985 by Tami Simon with a clear mission: to disseminate spiritual wisdom. Since starting out as a project with one woman and her tape recorder, we have grown into a multimedia publishing company with more than 80 employees, a library of more than 1500 titles featuring some of the leading teachers and visionaries of our time, and an ever-expanding family of customers from across the world. In more than three decades of growth, change, and evolution, Sounds True has maintained its focus on its overriding purpose, as summed up in our Mission Statement.

This podcast changed my life. I have been practicing with Karla’s approaches for a couple of months (bought Language of Emotions) and I feel more present, grounded, boundaried, and “Me”. Working with my emotions has lead to greater self acceptance and confidence and inner peace as well as playfulness. Thank you.

Karla McLaren's book, "Emotional Genius" has been hugely helpful in my healing from trauma. I regularly recognize and dignify my emotions as having purpose. I stopped believing that there are positive and negative emotions. I'm understanding more instead of pushing emotions away.

An emotion is an event in the body, so therefore it affects my breathing and my muscle tone. But the emotion came because of a thought but it has also located itself in the body . Then I can transform the energy by slowing the breathing, which in turn relaxes me and then I am grounded. It's a question of being aware, and that one can do at any moment.

I've been in lockdown with a shielding Dad who has Aspergers, Mum does too but she hasn't been aggressive or critical like my Dad...it's a remote hamlet too. I have bucket loads of feelings and emotions, but there is hardly any talking...I'm now so confused, tired and lonely...my whole body has been living on high alert for too long and I feel utterly exhausted on every level. I'm an empath/highly sensitive person and am absorbing the harshness of my environment too much. I don't know where to start to rebuild my life....

@@kasia1959 Thank you so much, through messages I have, but phone calls are tricky as I don't have any privacy...my brain feels exhausted..but I'll never give up. Thank you so much for your reply. It's very much appreciated.

I hope you have immediate coping mechanisms throughout the day. It's also extremely tough when you don't have any privacy. Talk to the people you find comfort in, and whom understand your situation and are willing to be there for you. You are a trooper. Don't give up.

@@jamietodd9741 does it cover Aspergers and strokes?
It's mostly because I live back with them and it's remote.

Tami, I love you to bits.. BUT SERIOUSLY, does this woman believe that emotions just Float into our reality + we can just have the gap to "barter" with them "in the moment" ???? Then her husband goes to the shop, when she is incapable of going??????
