Came back 4 years later to remind myself that JSB did this with NO BAR. There’s a just a different level of respect earned from playing DDR at the highest level using no bar.
This video is classic! I miss the old DDR games I used to play this right after death matching on Resident Evil Outbreak! This video always gave me hope and one day I actually finished the whole song and got a AA Light Mode! Trust me it was a huge accomplishment to me!
nah... around two years ago, DDR was starting to die out. I remember tournaments like this. I remember JSB too. He used to always come to the arcade and play. A lot of people hated on him, but I was one of the few that were cool with him. He was one of the top DDR players in the Nation. Still a Legend. I've seen him AAA harder songs than this one.
Wow, I remember seeing this in High School and thought this was the greatest video ever. Hell so many really good videos came from this tournament. Especially the Freestyle routines that appeared from this. Oh how I miss these things.
Mother Goddess... 9 Greats and 491 Perfects... he looks so chilled and relaxed when he performs it, and no bar-hugging (except at 0:55 to turn towards the crowd on the freeze step)! 1:16 - 1:21... that was just mental!
The thing about this video... you have to keep in mind that I believe this tournament happened in late 2003. All things considered, not many people really played on the level that these guys played at on the East Coast at this time. This was one of the bigger events, and really impressive for its time.
wow i can't believe how many views/comments this video has! i was at this tournament too, and watching it in person was nuts. it's sad that the arcade isn't there anymore..this video brings back a lot of great memories at Xgates!
Regret not being around or old enough to witness tournaments like these... but age is something I can't control lol. Heard funny perspectives about the myth of JSB... but he was a really good player. Guess it must've been mindblowing in the day to have a literal king when now there's tons of them. Poor guy Reflexx doesn't look like he's trying much, not unless it was a tough tournament for its time. How would they play on today's charts? Y'all be in your mid-30s/40s by now. 😅
We're in our 30s now and many of us are still beasting away. JSB no longer plays competitively or at all, really. He'll mess around but he doesn't take it seriously anymore just will play for fun. He's a funny guy, too. Around this time there was a reason he played at this level. He had his little sister to look after and so he would travel the country competing for the prize money so he could be able to take care of/look after her. Diet was very strict, and he couldn't afford to lose, so he made sure he didn't. Still makes sure his little sis is well taken care of till this day. That can be a good form of motivation, I'd say. 😊 This tournament was huge at the time, it was East Coast vs West Coast national level tournament and JSB was the top West Coast Player and Reflexx was the top East Coast player. Reflexx wasn't a horrible player and def didn't get to where he was being a horrible player. JSB simply out-classed him and paced himself well. Reflexx on the other hand, didn't pace himself correctly which left him gassed less than halfway through the song. This was the tournament finale as well. A lot of tourney-goers knew that if JSB showed up to a tourney (and you never could tell if he was going to show up somewhere, he never announced it or anything, just popped up lol), well, there goes that prize money. Usually the money was a prize pool, from everyone paying a small fee to enter the tournaments. So JSB would beat the tournaments and get a huge return after paying his relatively small entry fee. I believe there is also a documentary that shows more footage of him as well.
What is Domics? Lol. I'm here for The Legend of Maxx no bar. This is the only video I can find that shows the body of a person playing TLOM with no bar and actually getting a good score.
I was at this tourny. Keep in mind, Extreme has only been out for about 1 week at this point. Obviously this isn't that amazing by today's standards, but considering a lot of people at the tourny had never evne seen this song before, this was ridiculous (he had an AAA for the first half of the song).
Totally forgot about this video! I remember when the PSP first came out, I put this video on it :D DDR Nostalgia and RUclips good ol days YAY ^_^ You won't find the DDR scene like this ever again sadly :( Unless someone knows something Idk.
i remember watching this video when sdg on tlom was OMFG-worthy. good stuff, blast from the past. and for all of you who think reflexx is bad - he could absolutely destroy almost any non-10-footer. he didn't get to the final against jsb by being bad at the game. his style looks kind of wonky but his PA was unquestionably good.
He's still around, doesn't really play dance games much anymore. He'll mess around, but he's no longer competitive. And he's still a funny guy and cool to be around. I've known him since 2001 so 20yrs now. Crazy when you consider that I now have a 17yr old daughter lol. Met him during my junior or sophomore year in HS, I believe he was a senior. We used to play at Aladdin's Castle at Del Amo Mall in Torrance, and at Gable House whenever the mall would close for the night. And sometimes at Arcade Infinity. Now I'm remembering all the amazing arcades that have bit the dust over the last decade, Arcade Infinity was one of the first to go, Aladdin's Castle pre-dated it and during my first year of college. The feels. lol. Around this time, JSB would travel across the US competing in tournaments to take care of himself and his little sister. Which is why he couldn't afford to lose, and he didn't. His diet was also very strict and high in protein which is why he had so much stamina. Most people would hate on him because they knew if he showed up to a tourney, they pretty much could kiss that prize money good-bye lol 😅😅😂😂 He is considered the first "unoffical" professional rhythm gamer, while DOLCE is the first official professional rhythm gamer since he was actually hired by Konami. Would be cool to see Konami give JSB some sort of accolades for the many barriers he broke in DDR. JSB showed everyone that there was a higher level that could be reached at the time; most couldn't even process the idea of playing at that high of a level let alone pass the song at all. Of course ITG took dance games to an even higher level to a point folks actually warm up with TLOM now lol. He also went on to AAA Paranoia Survivor Maxx around this time; I witnessed it in person. It was amazing and legendary for the time (2003). I also still play til this day, but not competitively. It has helped me a lot with recovering from my recent surgery. So I just do it for the cardio and to keep in shape and work up a little sweat. I'm having to practically start from scratch now, but I'm working my way up. I'm now passing 12s and 13s again, which is great for coming out of such a major surgery. It's all coming back to me lol. Anyway, if you're ever in an arcade in LA, you may run into him sometime (rare but it can happen). It's not his frequent hangout but he still comes around sometimes. 😊
@@neferazure I don't recall Johnny ever aaaing psmo. If he did, it definitely wasn't in 03. I remember it was a big deal when a pic of him aaaing Maxx unlimited made it on to AIJ, but that was in like 2004...maybe 2005 and it was a big deal because he'd already stopped playing competitively at that point and people were excited that he was still capable of doing something impressive. But yes, he was the best player in the US for a few years and an absolute legend for people like me that grew up playing the pre supernova mixes; he was our Yasu.
It's impressive to see a top tier player roll with ironman tech once in a while. As for the bar-rape flaming, if ironman/no-bar isn't specified then don't complain about it.
well, the guy on the right doesn't play anymore, but he has AAA'ed max 300 and can get less than 23 greats on LOM SHUFFLE. there's actually a video of him getting 18 on it, somewhere.
It must have been no earlier than 2003 because DDR Extreme was released on xmas 2002. Crazy how time flies... I remember watching this video like a decade ago.
Don't care what anyone says about players nowadays, no bar SDGing TLoM is still a damn good achievement. And I still keep coming back to this video... heh.
It's true about the safety issue with the bar, but still, how can you NOT have balance playing this game after years of practice? I mean, I never used the bar in the arcades (the only time I had to was on DoLL on Supernova on Heavy...the last part is freakin' impossible without it, for me at least. I weigh 250 lbs :P)
This video triggered so many amazing DDR memories I forgot about. I miss those days
This is why I love the legend of max and I play it a lot
Me too.
The highest level I played that year was STANDARD/DIFFICULT.
Times have changed
DDR is still a thing - we just got Megalovania ruclips.net/video/sWcC1OPnPqU/видео.html
Came back 4 years later to remind myself that JSB did this with NO BAR. There’s a just a different level of respect earned from playing DDR at the highest level using no bar.
17 years later and I still come back to this😊
Seeing that sequence starting at 1:13 onward, done without the bar, gives me goosebumps every damn time
Top tier DDR gameplay!!!
This video has a very special place in my heart. It was one of the videos that inspired me to get better as a player
This video is classic! I miss the old DDR games I used to play this right after death matching on Resident Evil Outbreak! This video always gave me hope and one day I actually finished the whole song and got a AA Light Mode! Trust me it was a huge accomplishment to me!
listen kids, we know you came from domics. you dont need to tell the whole world.
I am sorry but I actually discovered DDR and played Afronova on it before discovering Domics' video.
LOL
discovered by playing megamix on ddra and looked up what was in it to see this song
Domics made me a DDR player years ago, I came here for DDR interest oroginated by domics

Ah, JSBee. I remember the days. I remember the MaxX Unlimited AAA picture that no one believed was real.
Still a legend. Always will be.
This was one of the first youtube vids I ever watched and I randomly thought about it today
This guy has always been a big expiration to me back in the day. AA TLOM no bar.
Annoyances aside, I never get tired of watching this vid.
what annoyances? >:(
That room must smell extraordinary!!
Holy Jesus, Albany was LIT for DDR! This was back when they had five machines running at the same time and tournaments meant something
Played DDR at golf n stuff with my daughter earlier today. Brought back some fun memories!!!
legendary video, insane to see how far ddr has come
I like the crowd in the background, they're like cheering players for once XD
Am I the only one who DID NOT come from Domics?
yes
Quadrillion yes
I didn't. I don't even know what Domics is.
the fuck is domics, i found this video on Aaron in japan back in 2005, where jsb posted it.
No. I'm here with you brother

I don’t think people realize how underrated this clip is. The view count doesn’t do it justice.
I've probably watched this video 100+ times.....Never ceases to amaze me :)
This video is still incredible to this day
wow i can't believe how many views/comments this video has! i was at this tournament too, and watching it in person was nuts. it's sad that the arcade isn't there anymore..this video brings back a lot of great memories at Xgates!
If i could play DDR with JSB i would
Wow 14 years ago this video but nostalgic times
No bar... AA. That's real talent!
even after 5-6 years JSB still looks so natural in this video
Regret not being around or old enough to witness tournaments like these... but age is something I can't control lol.

"AA" *then slowly move to the right...* "E"

Yeah Johnny never wanted to be a bar hugger.
I just want to watch a video without who came from ....
*man life is full of twists and turns extreme still the goated version ever*
I was at this tourny. Keep in mind, Extreme has only been out for about 1 week at this point. I love this video. Every time.
I love reflexx's scared reaction to jsb comboing the run lol
JSB ftw. when you gonna make a comeback, man?
The sound they make is awesome. Thank you Domics you're a legend.
DDR til the day I die!
that was just insane man, INSANE!!
Damn this brings back memories. I saw this like, 9 years ago.
I hope most of you realize this video is almost 12 years old. And back then the bars were removed for PA competitions haha
Hey Iam Wondering if there are any tournaments Available in the Chicagoland Area. Please get back to me as soon as possible.
Wow I remember this video from forever ago and it was like a huge event in the DDR scene for someone to SDG that. Oh memories :D
Wish there was more footage of jsb, absolute monster

it still is amazing
Y'know, YouToube has a reply funtion so you guys don't have to make individual comments about the same topic :/
It's impressive to see a top tier player roll with ironman tech once in a while.
As for the bar-rape flaming, if ironman/no-bar isn't specified then don't complain about it.
O_O damn O_O

ur also kinda cute XD
on a ddr arcade pad? good luck with that, I hope you don't trip (if you know what I mean)
and what do you play energizer on? medium, hard or expert?
@Miguel001 im pretty sure its nothing now to most people because its been out so long now that some people can probably do it backwards no bar.
Jokes and the game aside, that's probably the most descriptive and to-the-point description on youtube. wth you dont see those anymore
What date was this filmed?
Can’t get an exact date, but I know the year was 2003
that dude that finished the song almost perfect is a rare breed.
i love this video so much.
some of those movements looked really tricky, can I just say....... you have GOD balance?
you guys are awesome!
lmao this is great. i'm amazed.
my best friends been dancing for like ten years and she cant do this.
DAMN !!! whoever the guy on the left is.. omg he KILLED IT
Reflexx is killing it!!
Even with all the really good ITG players today, this is still an extremely impressive video.
this is amazing
still excited about this in 2016
wow. That's just amazing. I'm kinda in shock from watching that.
yooo this comment is older than me
what version of ddr were they playin?
well, the guy on the right doesn't play anymore, but he has AAA'ed max 300 and can get less than 23 greats on LOM SHUFFLE. there's actually a video of him getting 18 on it, somewhere.
WOW! Look at those skills!
This took place way before 2006. It was POSTED on 2006. Think someone mentioned that it was recorded around 2001.
It must have been no earlier than 2003 because DDR Extreme was released on xmas 2002. Crazy how time flies... I remember watching this video like a decade ago.
WTF!!! 9 GREATS AND NO BAR!!! very very big respect towards that
Don't care what anyone says about players nowadays, no bar SDGing TLoM is still a damn good achievement. And I still keep coming back to this video... heh.
wow. I can do the legend without the bar, but a AA? and on the arcade machine too... it grades pretty strict
JSB is a time traveler
OMFG! the one on the left RULES!!
OWNED!
was he dancing down the lane when he threw his ball? XD
Flawless victory.
I still can't get over how the person on the right trys going no bar... lmao! Every time I watch it makes me laugh.
If I can dance energizer, I can absolutely dance that!
First tiem in about half a year where my mouth was open while watching a video.
