What an absolute pro. Keeping the audience on side, trying to play the script, every fibre of his instinct and experience telling him the show must go on. Take a bow, Lionel.
Me too ..always thought how professional he handled it , that dance shuffle ..( I've done the same thing in crazy circumstances since I saw him do that 🤣) ..old school , top performer and will be much missed but always loved .
Loved these Gotchas and this is by far the best one ever. I saw this funny farce in Bournemouth Dorset . What a legend Lionel Blair . I bet it was difficult for the other members of the cast too keep quiet without bursting into hysterics ❤❤❤. RIP Lionel and thanks for all the entertainment you have given us over the years .
I was 9 years old when Lionel Blair was Gotchad, and it was always my favourite. The “Lionel Blair Stare” 🤣.RIP Lionel Blair and thanks for the memories 04/11/21.
I see Lionel Blair on the station where I work, I asked him about this and he assures me 100% that he had absolutely no idea. The audience were also in on it too because they purposely held Lionels cab up to brief them. Timeless hilarious comedy. 😆
Rip Lionel... Probably the last of our great British song and dance men. He's up and heaven with Roy Castles and Bruce Forsythe strutting his stuff. God bless him...
How did 85% of this nation get conned into thinking Britain’s Got The X-Factor Of Talent was quality TV. Yes; shit quality! I’m afraid we’re stuck with it.
Even when it was all Bruce Forsythe’s quiz shows, Cilla Black’s Blind Surprise and 321 on Itv in the eighties you quite often got a good film on BBC to compete.
It's stretching it a bit to call them "talent shows", packed with over the hill or no-charisma C list celebs grinning from ear to ear with self-righteous glee because they're getting paid a packet to just exist in that vacuous, inbred world they cohabit preening themselves, back-slapping each other and believing they have anything worth to say about anything.
Noel is suffering from a terrible medical condition and will be unlikely to return to TV anytime soon, Crinkley Bottom isn't fatal just terribly uncomfortable!
noels house party, the best thing on any given saturday. innit strange the flack noel gets, yet, he has made my weekends from when i was a kid with swap shop, to houseparty as an adult. a true entertainer.
Back in the 70s I saw LB in the Strand. He was with a friend, and I was with my girlfriend. And although he was in a hurry he made time for us for a chat, and a couple of photos. He was such a gentleman and so friendly and, polite. I will never forget that encounter because I met a lot of stars over the years, as I worked in the west end. But never met anyone so nice and, friendly.
Did it last longer than what we see here? We see just under ten minutes, did they edit this down a bit? I loved the House Party, would have loved to be there to see Noel.
Better days.....good clean family fun .....Noels house party was the greatest . The people loved Noel but the tv execs decided they knew better....well they didn`t :-(
I always imagined Lionel Blair was a bit of a drama queen but he stayed pretty cool tbh. His face is precious lol when that guy told him about the lights lol. I would have twigged when the diver came on though....
No it wasn’t: the cast knew but Lionel and the audience had no idea. He was genuinely pissed off: you saw that Blair stare in the Big Brother house when he was angered by that tramp Luisa.
This was my favourite Gotcha. By the look of things, this was the best bit compared to a terrible farce. I'd sooner play bingo. What character though from Lionel. He was amazing throughout!
The old Blair stare Classic lionel. Today's TV just can't compare to the 90s. Used to watch Noel's house party getting ready to go out in town for a good night with the boys. Cant believe how much noel has fallen. That Lloyds business has ruined him. Looked like a broken man in the jungle. Bloody shame.
I agree completely, I miss that sort of entertainment. I wish Noel Edmonds would do something like "The Late Late Breakfast Show" again, but I suppose the past is the past...
Hi-Fi basically means stereo (Nicam Stereo in the 1990s) and it is in stereo, but everytime you see "Hi-Fi" in the corner it means the tape isn't tracking properly and keeps dipping into mono. It was very annoying at the time. It was usually caused by a faulty or over-used cassette or if it was recorded in LP (Long Play).
@@FrozenExplosion - If I'm interested in TV recording then that's nothing to do with you. I did have fun on nights out before COVID-19 hit. Wind your neck in!
My old man couldn't stand Lionel Blair. I'd be sat there, having a good old chuckle at him capering about with Su Pollard, or whoever on Blankety Blank, and the old fella would stroll in, See Lionel Blair and go absolutely bonkers....
What an absolute pro. Keeping the audience on side, trying to play the script, every fibre of his instinct and experience telling him the show must go on. Take a bow, Lionel.
people who think Ant and Dec are great, this is where they got their ideas from! Noel Edmonds, was amazing and still is!!
Asbolutely - I used to watch House Party just for the Gotchas as they were incredibly well made!
Jeremy beadle was the king..
Noel Edmonds is a very weird and creepy man.
💯
RIP Lionel, this is the first thing I thought of when I heard. What a legend, classic bit of TV history and an Edmunds masterclass.
Me too ..always thought how professional he handled it , that dance shuffle ..( I've done the same thing in crazy circumstances since I saw him do that 🤣) ..old school , top performer and will be much missed but always loved .
. . . Edmonds' masterclass . . . .
@@andrewdeans3686 thanks Dad!
2:56 - and here is the infamous Lionel Blair stare. This moment would follow him for the rest of his life.
Absolutely brilliant 😂😂 this is when Saturday night TV was totally fantastic
People watched any unfunny rubbish when there were only 3 or 4 channels.
@JamesRichards-mj9kw any of it would beat listening to you, miserable sod 😅
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mr Blair, absolute pro. No doubt he’s keeping them laughing upstairs .
The Legendary Lionel Blair made this one of the best 'Gotchas' ever. Absolutely TV Gold !

What a lovely remark.
He supported the killing of British people.
RIP to a legend. I’ve watched this so many times. One more for Lionel. Legend. X
I was 9 years old when Lionel Blair was Gotchad, and it was always my favourite. The “Lionel Blair Stare” 🤣.RIP Lionel Blair and thanks for the memories 04/11/21.
I remember seeing this prank when it was first shown. Classic 👍
I see Lionel Blair on the station where I work, I asked him about this and he assures me 100% that he had absolutely no idea. The audience were also in on it too because they purposely held Lionels cab up to brief them. Timeless hilarious comedy. 😆
This is the best Gotcha! This reminds me of my days in the local am-dram. Everything usually went wrong and it did! :D
I love Lionel Blair, he was great on Give us a Clue, I remember him pulling off 3 men in a boat in under 60 seconds.
Claims that he pulled 3 men off are defamatory, regardless of whether they were in a boat or not!
From SIHAC
58 seconds to my recollection. A bit like Humph discussing how to to open a pack of sausages on ISIHAC. (Prick with a fork for the uninitiated).
Were you 1, 2 or 3 ?
Could have worded that differently...
Look at the lights, Lionel! Cracks me up every time.
What a star!!!! A proper, genuine, show must go on… star!!!! Oh, how we were spoiled in the 80s/90s before reality tv kicked in and ruined it all
Fantastic prank with that Lionel Blair Stare!! Classic.
Noels House Party was brilliant.
Rip Lionel... Probably the last of our great British song and dance men.
He's up and heaven with Roy Castles and Bruce Forsythe strutting his stuff. God bless him...
I don’t think any of these people believed in god and heaven, so I think all of them would find it terribly disrespectful this comment.

Bring back Noel's House Party! It was great fun family entertainment, You can keep your God awful Ant and Dec rubbish
Well said .
Couldn't agree more Elkie
Noel is suffering from a terrible medical condition and will be unlikely to return to TV anytime soon, Crinkley Bottom isn't fatal just terribly uncomfortable!
RIP Lionel - deepest sympathy to your family and friends. Reunited with Una for more Give Us A Clue
Ah, the good old days when Noel ruled Saturday evenings and HI-FI would pop up unannounced like clockwork!
Oh I love this how everyone kept going is brilliant and wow the Blair stare is something else😂😂😂😂😂
The Lionel Blair stare, We use to say that's where my nan got hers from. RIP to you both.
I remember watching this in 1994 and loved it. Brings back happy memories of Saturday TV which was just a joy to watch.
noels house party, the best thing on any given saturday. innit strange the flack noel gets, yet, he has made my weekends from when i was a kid with swap shop, to houseparty as an adult. a true entertainer.
He get it so classy. Thinking of the audience constantly. And straight back into the performance.
Yeah very true, even when he was annoyed he was pure class; all he cared about was the audience.
Perhaps it's because it was my childhood, but I have such fond memories of NHP, especially the Gotchas.
R.i.p legend that is was Lionel Blair loved watching him on give us a clue. One of my late mum's favorite
He helped me.pick my tap shoes in a shop in London when i was 13 he was amazing :) so nice. I stil have them for 54 yrs lol
Old school pro, was Lionel. Kept on with it, no swearing....kept with it for the audience. Respect.
Canada's finest entertainer to entertain millions of Brits for many decades, R.I.P.. Lionel and thanks for the memories ....
Lionel is always up for a good laugh. He never seemed up his own ego.

Vicki Michelle was an absolute doll. I bet she’s lovely as welll
Yeah, I agree.
I had the pleasure of being in the audience with my family.
You were not told anything before the play started of what was about to happen?
No we had no clue. I was ready to throw out the bloke with the camera, not knowing it was Edmonds. Turned into a great night.
Did it last longer than what we see here? We see just under ten minutes, did they edit this down a bit? I loved the House Party, would have loved to be there to see Noel.
What happened afterwards? Did the play start again, continue on or get scrapped altogether?

Lionel once did that death-stare at me in Lakeside Shopping Centre. I've never fully recovered.
Rest in peace. Best gotcha Lionel just kept going despite Noel's best efforts. Eventually he got him lol.
This was absolutely priceless. That withering look from Lionel!
What a beautiful man.
The Blair stare!!!
The most amazing thing is that people paid to see that in the first place.
Thanks so much for the upload! This was brilliant

That stare nearly as terrifying as a Paddington bear hard stare.
